What's Up with DRM Free Music??

Read that music is now DRM free. What does that mean? All songs from iTunes store are DRM free? What does it mean to be DRM free? Just curious.

That means there are no restrictions in the music files themselves that limit what can be done with it. Click here for more information.

Can I publish itunes drm free music videos on an iweb gallery?

Im able to publish my iweb site with normal drm free music but It wont seem to publish a page I made up of drm free itunes bought music videos? I put them on a blank page on iweb but with no joy in publishing the page of the site.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

DRM free only means you can listen to the music on more than seven computers, iPhones or iPods.
Since you don't hold the rights to share the music (you are not the author or the owner) you can't put them on the Internet in any fashion.

Duplicates on iPad following DRM-free music upgrade.

After upgrading a few hundred songs to the new higher quality DRM-Free music on iTunes I have discovered a few dozen duplicates on my iPad. There are no duplicates on the desktop only the iPad. Unable to determine which file is the 128 kbps and which is the 256 kbps, so unable to delete.
1) There is a problem in the upgrade process that leaves the old version on the iPad for only "Some" of the songs.
2) I could use a way to determine which song is the old version. Its easy to do on the desktop, but not so easy on the iPad.

DRM Free Music and ability to play on another Mac I own

I purchased an upgrade to DRM-free music about a month ago; all purchases were upgraded.
With this as a given, is there some reason why my iPod - packed with music - cannot be loaded onto a second Mac? When I connect the iPod to my second Mac I'm essentially told that the iPod belongs to another user. Yet I am the only individual on both of these systems as well as the owner of the iPod.
Or am I misunderstanding the purpose, in whole or in part, as it relates to the DRM-Free upgrades I paid for?

Connect the iPod to your second computer and choose to transfer purchases from it, either from the dialog box which appears when you connect it or the File menu. This requires that the computer be authorized even if all the music is DRM free.

Curious about DRM vs. DRM free music

OK, I admit it. I'm confused. A big deal is being made of this DRM free music and "upgrading" your current song library from DRM to DRM free. I have lots (less than 100) of albums and songs (again less than 100)that I have bought from the iTunes store in the past, including some current stuff that my granddaughter downloaded into her iPod. I have been to the iTunes store since the "big" announcement and have not been offered any "upgrades". Why not? Is it because I'm in Canada?
Not that I care much, I have had no issues at all in putting together compilation CD's that I play in the car and on my home stereo system.
So why would I want DRM free anyway? Just curious.

Play on any device, not just an Apple device or from an audio CD. The iTunes Plus tracks are also of higher quality, 256kbps bit rate vs. 128kbps. If neither of those factors are of interest to you, you probably don't want or need to upgrade.
As to why you aren't getting offered any upgrades, the iTunes Store is continuing to struggle with such issues where it's just a database error. But not all tracks are available as iTunes Plus yet. In either case, the problem may clear itself up in a week or two as the problems get fixed and more tracks arrive from the record companies.

How do I find/upgrade to DRM free Music from EMI

I just read that EMI and Apple have agree to sell DRM free music at a higher quality for $1.29. iTune purchased songs from EMI can also be upgraded to DRM free tracks at $0.30 each. The problem is where do I find them? I can't seem to find search EMI Records on iTune. Is there an easy and fast way to upgrade all my tracks from EMI?

Unable to sync DRM free music to AppleTV

I recently purchase an album from itunes and recently converted it to the DRM free option. When the album synced with my apple tv, the album and the album art should up correctly along with the number of tracks in the album, but no music, the album summary reports "0 songs". Has anyone seen this before and is there a workaround?
I have already wiped the apple tv by de-linking it with my mac and reauthorizing it and my itunes account. Still no luck. Can the sync processs be forced? Is this a media problem? This is the only album i have noticed this with. Incidentally, I was playing the album in itunes when it updated the DRM free content.
Any help would be appreciated. It is very interesting...

It's a tagging issue. the artist and album artist fields need to be identical or the album artist field needs to be empty. Putting differing info into each of these fields results in the problem you are describing.

What to do with the Free BO Edge download - where do i go from here ?

dear all, i am an SAP ABAPer for years. I would like to get into BO.
I have downloaded and installed, successfully the free BO Edge Trial.
Now i sit in front of my laptop looking at it, wondering what to read, to get me started.
i prefer hands on exercises.
i realize the Edge trial does not link to SAP, so where do i go from here.
i would just like to get to play with the tools inside Edge, and perform some very basic "Hello World" type functionaltiy.
Maybe link BO Edge to an Excel spreadsheet ?

Random- What to do with 2 free mac's...

Ok I bought my first mac in april 2007. It was a 2.2Ghz White Macbook, perfectly fine for me. 6 replacements later I Have a 2.53Ghz Unibody MBP and a 2.8Ghz 24" iMac. I have not spent a cent on a computer (apart from a bit of ram here and there) since my initial outlay of €1500. Do the maths and what I have now is worth €3848, well over twice my initial purchase, and well over my initial needs. My compensation is completely warranted, no question. The only problem is, how to get the most out of these machines.
I take a lot of photo's and edit them a bit, however my first mac could nearly do this.
I am probably going to be starting to do a little bit of video'ing and then editing soon, but that will end by april.
What I am looking for is ideas from you people on what I could start doing to get the most out my machines? I would love to write programs but the learning bit is very boring to me especially as in the beginning it is all command line and no GUI, which is what I love.
So has anyone any suggestions? I don't have that much cash to spend, I have an absolutly huge amount of storage, and two very powerful machines.

Depending on what kind of programming you've done (or want to do), you might want to take a look at REALbasic at http://www.realsoftware.com/
If you've used or heard of Visual Basic, it's a rough equivalent, but many say much better.
It's designed for interactive apps, although it can be used for console apps as well. It's object-oriented and event-driven, and can be used to make cross-platform apps as well.
Programming is done via an IDE (interactive development environment) -- a.k.a., GUI.
If you're new to such things, there will be something of a learning curve. It comes with fairly full onscreen documentation, including a tutorial and example projects. You can also purchase printed versions of two of the manuals (I got the User's Guide, and thought it was well worth it).
I think it's still $99 per year, including about 4 updates. And you can download it and use it in demo mode for a couple of weeks, as I recall.

ITunes Freezes with DRM-free upgrade

I recently took the plunge to upgrade all eligible songs to the Plus version, about 130 in total. However, iTunes freezes whenever the download commences. I tried doing each download one by one, and the freeze occurs with start of the next song to download. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and am up to date with new software updates. Any ideas?

The same problem happened to me recently and the itunes support was of course very "helpful" in giving me useless links to the iTunes support pages. My fix around the freezing problem as it happens when iTunes is trying to replace the older song with the newer version is to quit itunes then move the entire music library to another location on your HD. Relaunch itunes then go to check for purchases to restart the download. Everything should go fine. Once the download is complete you will have to combine the new and old music libraries by moving some files around. Its not the easiest but Its the best solution I had to this annoying problem that the itunes support staff does not seem to care about.

I just got a new cell phone. I wanted to transfer music from iTunes on my Mac to this cell phone. how do you do it?

Stealing is NOT the only reason to want to transfer music and paid apps from one account to another.
The family has been using one itunes account to purchase music and apps. This account was set up under my user name. I gave my wife my old ipad and got the 3-kids new ipads. I want to give all of the music and apps under my user name to my wife's new itunes account so the family can keep using them and I can have a separate account. Even if I have to re-pay for the music and apps.

DRM-less music upgrade problems

After iTunes began going DRM free on their music I started upgrading some of my songs for the $.29 price. I had already gone thru the whole burn to CD/copy to WMP steps for most of my songs but wanted to get the DRM free music a little more cleanly and also get the higher bitrates.
Anyway, I have about 10 songs left to convert to DRM free but iTunes is not notifying me of their availability - even though I recently read where the entire iTunes library is available DRM free.
What I noticed is that the 10 specific song/album combinations are no longer listed as they were when we bought them originally. For example, my wife bought the Carrie Underwood "Jesus Take the Wheel" song and the album was (I'm at work now so the exact title may not be correct) "Jesus Take the Wheel (Single)". However, when I search for that album it is no longer available....even though the song clearly is.
Has anyone else come across this and found a way to upgrade their songs?

Upgrading will be done for the same version of the song.
If you originally purchased the song off the album and the album is no longer available, you cannot upgrade with the single version or a version from a different album.
Sometimes, previous purchases were not linked correctly and did not show up as elgible for upgrade.

Royalty free music that doesn't suck

I'm not a music composer (and I don't play one on TV) but I am someone who needs music for projects sometimes, mainly video modules for conference openers. The big problem is that, more often than not, my clients aren't willing to pay for an audio engineer/composer to do up a custom track for them. I know, in the big scheme of things, that this is cheaper than me sitting for hours/days sifting through websites with royalty free music but they see the price tag for custom work and freak out.
So, since Google will allow you to pay to up your placement in their searches, I am fed up with searching sites that suck and thought that, while it doesn't exactly have to do with fine Adobe products (of which I've purchased several [including Audition], spending many thousands of dollars over the years, for any Adobe personnel out there who might read this post and doesn't think it applies to this product), I thought I'd come to this forum and ask you people directly if you know of any sites with RFM that don't suck. You know what I mean, if I have to hear another 60 sec. clip of "atmospheric strings", I may just puke. I did try to find an audio forum to ask this question on but, once again, Google let me down.
There's simply got to be some music library out there somewhere that's fairly consistently good, or at least the amount of corporate hoaky blech is at a minimum. Or maybe you, as a composer, have your own site with decent stuff that doesn't appear within the first 100 returns of a Google search. Please, let me know! I've got a project I'm working on right now where I'm in a similar bind with a client who thinks they're David Foster without the audio board and doesn't understand that all this costs money, even if it's only $39.95 (and the additional hours of all my searching). They also don't understand that just because they own the CD doesn't mean you're allowed to set pictures to it and call it your own. And if I have to listen to "Simply the Best" used in another video, I may just scream.

I have been using IB Audio for years. Ian is a great composer (and nice guy). It's a yearly membership or by the track. The membership is the best value. For one price you get HUNDREDS of tracks and loops.

If all of one's music has been upgraded to iTunes Plus is it really necessary to have one's computer authorized to play audio files anymore. Shouldn't DRM free music be playable on any system?

Only for using the Transfer Purchases command to retrieve them from an iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV.
