What's up with Flash function key shortcuts in OSX?

I'm teaching a class for Flash CS3 on the Mac to about 24 students. I've been using Flash in Windows for a long time, but it's been awhile since I worked on a Mac.
Our classroom has about 24 iMacs running the latest OS X (not sure exactly which version). Several Flash keyboard shortcuts don't work -- shortcuts that I use a lot, like F8 to convert to symbol.
I was able to successfully disable the goofy Mac search feature that takes over another common Adobe shortcut that I use a lot (CMD-Space, in Flash/Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign it allows you to temporarily access the zoom tool). In the System Prefs control panel, there was a shortcut for F8 for some other system feature, but even with that disabled, the shortcut still doesn't work in Flash.
Another strange thing that's happening with most of these Macs: the Properties panel popup for creating a tween doesn't work. Applying a tween in other ways --- the Insert menu, CTRL-clicking and choosing from the popup menu -- works fine. If a tween is applied with the properties panel, the tween appears as broken (dashed line) in the Timeline.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance in sorting out these Mac issue in Flash CS3.

  • I recently purchased some scripts and saved them as actions but wont work with assigned function key

    i could use some help ....i recently purchased some scripts to help automate things i do with scrapbooking.... i am using cs4 and have vista...i have made actions to make it easy to use the scripts.... i have assigned function keys to make it easy to use the actions... but it doesnt seem to work with the function keys...i can run the actions by pressing that arrow/button on the bottom of the action palette but when i hit the f key nothing happens..when i first got the scripts it did work.... but now it doesnt....i deleted the actions and made them again but still dont work with f keys...what could be the problem and what do you suggest i do...others who have purchased these same actions seem to be able to use them with the f keys.... thanks for any thoughts and suggestions

    think i may have solved it myself and passing this dum thing along....on my keyboard is flock...i mustve hit it and the keys were locked...so i hit it and now they work.... oh dear.

    I get the following error in compiling
    REP-1401. 'currdateformula'.Fatal PL/SQL error occured. ORA-01843 not a valid month.
    The SQL select to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MM-YYYY') from dual; worked well in SQL Plus prompt.
    I got a clean compile when i use just sysdate in the function (see below).

    hello,
    what you are trying to do :
    fetch the current date and return it as the result of the formula-column.
    what you are actually doing :
    fetch the current date, convert it to text, assign this text to a date-variable which causes an implicit type-conversion.
    in your case you create a date-string with the format dd-mm-yyyy. the implicit conversion then tries to convert this string back to date using the NLS settings of your session. depending on your NLS_LANG and NLS_DATE_FORMAT this might work, if your session-date-format is dd-mm-yyyy which obviously it is NOT as you get the error.
    what you should do :
    select sysdate into curr_date from dual;
    this fetches the sysdate and stores it in your date-variable. there is no type conversion needed what so ever.

    Also Just like Oracle forms having function keys (f1,f2,f3 etc for commit, clear, submit) I am having a jspx page and i want to enable those shortcuts in that page. How to achieve it?

    I have checked those links before but that is not exactly what I am looking for. I am searching in context with Oracle forms as in oracle forms you have commit on F2 or clear all on F3(say), I want to implement those in ADF. I am having a jspx page in which i have added some input texts and submit button now i want to implement a function key which will (clear all) the data from the input field in runtime. or any other function key which will invoke the submit button and commit the request.

  • BSOD with my function key and hardware setup

    I have this problem, it took me a entire day to pinpoint exactly what my problem is.  Well my Antivirus, I tired using different ones, Bitdefender and AVG, and they both seem to cause the same problem.  Everytime I press the function key I get this message:

    I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 Bit with SP 2, I tested my memory and hardrive and there is no problem with it.  If I disable my antivirus the function key works, if I enable my AV it causes the BSOD.  It seems that there is a conflict with the Hardware setup and the TVAP issue.  I have the latest ones, but it seems that Toshiba won't come out with new drivers to fix this problem.  The only thing I can do now is disable my function key.  But I don't know if there is anything I could do.  Maybe modify the registry or something.  I cannot remove my AV as well.  I'm using both the Internet Security of it.

  • Problem with Keyboard function keys.

    Hey guys, let me start by saying I'm not a novice when it comes to computers, I'll be able to understand most of what you guys say here. My function keys are working perfectly fine... when I hold fn with F10 or any other button with controls it will move the desktop away in a quick and timely manner. However, if I try to use the key with just the speaker function it does not respond until MUCH later if at all.
    I have been having numerous headaches with Lion. This issue did not arise previously with Snow Leopard. Keyboard Setup Assistant also appears at bootup although I have nothing plugged in what-so-ever. Couple of things I've tried (I've found many threads about this and this seems to be the answer that is commonly given, but doesn't work for most of these people):
    1) I reset my PRAM a few times.
    2) I tried it with the Use function keys button checked and unchecked. This is happening straight from a fresh install.
    3) I deleted preferences and had them remade.
    This goes for Brightness, Keyboard Brightness, Dashboard, volume and track controls. Thanks for your help...

    Without knowing which verison of OS X is installed it's difficult to say what you have done. However in ML open System Preferences - Keyboard - uncheck Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys

  • Problem with assigning function key to button

    I have a button which I want to assign a function key to. I did based on the JHs tutorial and added the following lines:
    1) #ADD_GROUP_ACTION(${JHS.page.group} "RefreshButton" "${JHS.current.item.id}") to TOOLBAR_BUTTON template
    2) ${JHS.registerFunctionKey("shift F5","Shift+F5","Refresh","RefreshButton",true)} to REGISTER_FUNCTION_KEYS template
    Now, the new function key appears in the list of function keys when I press ctrl+K but pressing ctrl+k doesn't have any effect. I have no idea why it doesn't work. What should I do to make it work?

    Hi Steven
    Running the application in debug mode proved that the problem is not in FunctionKeyHandlerImpl.handleKeyCode and the function key was doing well but the results were not reflecting in the table. Setting the partialSubmit of the button to true and adding the id of button to the partial triggers of the table solved the problem.
    Thank you so much about the hint on turning ADF logging on, it is very handy.

  • What's up with the default key ring in Gnome?

    Hey everyone,
    I'm not sure what the key ring is, but i find sometimes programs trying to access it and have to enter a password to unlock it.
    If I hit "deny" the apps seem to function just fine though so obviously it's not required.
    What's it used for? And how can I bypass this screen as a user (pretend i don't know root password) or do i just press deny every time? Or is it useful to unlock it!?

  • What is it with flash player all the time!!!

    I swear every single time I do an upgrades, which you're prompted to do until you actually do it so you have to but every time I do an update. something goes wrong.  This is like the fifth update for me and the fifth time something went wrong!  My sound works on my computer because I tested my speakers. played a CD, etc.  However, videos in youtube and facebook will not work!  If I didnt pay for it, I would do away with adobe all together however, I do like the full version of Adobe Reader (so far at least).   But this is just ridiculous...anyone having the same issue or a fix?  The videos play just not the sound.   grrrr

    Wow, if you're going to be like that I can wait for someone else...I have reason to vent, if you dont like it then dont reply - no better yet, dont read it.  This is a help forum - it will be people frustrated with things especially those who have the issue each time and spend good money on the software...sorry maybe you're rich or just THINK you're calm, cool, and collected every moment - I'll tell you what you just bypass my post and go on with your happy little self...

  • What's up with flashing green & pink frames?

    I just updated to version 10.0.6 and am also working on my first "keyed" project.  I am now experiencing extremely annoying artifacts: either the screen will flash with a bright green or pink semi-transparent tint over the entire frame or suddenly, also for one frame, both the "keying" and transform settings that I applied will disappear.  In an attempt to isolate these frames I was using the blade tool and when I'd make a cut, the remainder of the section, before and after the cut, would re-render and that particular issue/frame would resolve itself.  But then, lo and behold, OTHER frames that played fine after the previous render are now messed up.  So I have been re-rendering and re-rendering over and over and yet keep on finding more frames that are messed up.  Any ideas as to why this would be?

    This was a good idea but it didn't work for me.  Tonalizer has a check box for "Safe Range", which I've tried checked an unchecked.  No difference.  Than I threw "Broadcast Safe" on top and checked and unchecked Tonalizer's "Safe Range" with no difference.  The only thing that works is turning off the plug completely.

    We're developing Flex solutions for clients, and one of our
    clients asked about their customers and what happened if they have
    Flash either not installed at all or Flash content blocked. This
    could be for (real or perceived) security reasons, or this could be
    to keep employees from viewing sites like YouTube or Flash gaming
    sites. This could be a deal-breaker to us because if the client
    isn't convinced that all their customers can use Flash, they will
    not use Flex at all.
    So have any of you encountered these kind of problems? What
    do you do in that case - how can you convince a customer to either
    install Flash or unblock it for your Flex solution? I mean you
    don't know what infrastructure a client has and whether blocking
    "bad Flash content" (YouTube, games etc.) and letting "good Flash
    content" (our Flex apps) through is an option at all.

    1) Flash/flex and other client object apps can run on a
    case-by-case basis via digital security certificates. The user can
    then trust your app to run without inviting in the u-tube armies.
    2) Agreed with other comments that you will likely need to
    give users an alternate user interface otherwise.
    3) If you are selling, you can also just run an off-line
    presentation. Perhaps in seeing the presentation they will buy into
    it.

  • What is wrong with my 'p' key?

    i7 quad 15" Macbook Pro...just reinstalled OSX Snow Leopard.
    After I reinstalled, I noticed that the 'p' key is acting funny. Pressing 'p' prints 'p\' to the screen. Hitting shift+p prints 'P|'. Capslock+p prints 'P\'. Capslock+shift+p prints 'P|'. I connected a external keyboard, and it prints p just fine. I reset pram/nvram. That didn't resolve it. What's going on? All other keys work fine.

    You are going to have to ask Apple. It is very much dependent on the Apple Store you take it to for repair.
    The one down the street from me managed to replace my motherboard in my MBP and get it back to me in 3 days.

  • Does anyone know what is wrong with flash games?

    Whenever I try to load a flash game on any website, it comes up fine. However, when I simply click on a button, it freezes both Firefox and the flash script. I just downloaded FF v3.6.10 and updated Adobe Flash player. It was fine before the 3.6.10 update.
    Everything else seems to be fine though...

    Safe mode did not help. In fact, it made Firefox freeze for longer than in normal mode.. I am also using the default theme..
    When I run the Firefox safe mode, it does not come up with the safe mode dialog box like it says in the FAQ.
    Edit: Actually, Java was the problem. To fix, go to start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore, and pick the date that you installed Java. That might help anyone who has this problem.

  • What is wrong with Flash Technical Support?

    I had to install a new hard drive and I use Windows XL SP3.  All of my Production Premium CS3 applications are activated except Flash CS3 Video Encoder.  I have reinstalled it.  I have deactivated all of my CS3 and reactivated it.  The Encoder still has not activated.
    I entered this in the Support Portal on June 25, 2009.  No one has contacted me.  I have held for Technical Support for several HOURS.  I am an Editor.  I paid for the software.  I am LOOSING MONEY due to the fact that no one at Adobe cares to answer the Support Portal or answer the Technical Support phone.  I am willing to PAY for support for something that should be free.  What is going on at Adobe??????????????????????????

    Thank you for your response, UniQRO.  Yes, piracy brought this on...but I'm wondering if there is a bigger issue.  Why is Adobe not answering their Support Portal or Support phone?  Are they having financial problems like other companies?  Are they getting ready to go out of business?
    I've spent 10 years buying, using, learning Adobe products but am beginning to wonder if that was a mistake.  I'd love to hear from someone in Adobe tell me why my support of their company has not been a mistake.  I will be upgrading in the near future and will definitely consider Support (or lack of) in my spending decisions.
