What's up with iTunes? Anybody hear anything?

The last week or two, iTunes is practically useless. It freezes with just a click of a mouse on anything--Get Info, Burn CD, iTunes store, etc. etc. etc. And I'm not the only one. I've asked many of my students at school and they all say the same thing, that iTunes has become useless recently. We all use version 8 and this is on a variety of platforms, so it is not just a Vista problem. I have to end the program using Task Manager. When I boot it back up, SOMETIMES it then works. What's going on? Has anyone heard from another forum or blog? It seems that there are several others on this forum experiencing some difficulty with no answers.
Thanks,
Brad

I have the same problem, sometimes when I try to play a video, it says that iTunes has stoped working and makes me close iTunes. But I've discovered sth: the problem is only w/ non iTunes Plus videos, 'cuz I've never had trouble playing iTunes Plus ones. I don't know if it's Apple's new plan to force people pay for upgrades. If so, PLEASE NOTE that movies & tv shows are also videos, and there's NO upgrade for them, so please don't do this.

What ' s wrong with iTunes? Both of stores -in browser and iTunes- crash. Apple need to handle this because I can't buy anything and surf on the store. I hope the image can explain my problem. Thank you in advance. This happened after updating from 10.7 to 11.

  • What's wrong with iTunes Canada?

What's wrong with iTunes Canada? It's becoming archaic. While the UK store is selling TV programs and now has the iPhone, the neighboring country to the United States has nothing new since iTunes U came out. No movies, no TV programs, no iPhone... And to top it all, Steve Jobs has never said a word about iTunes Canada. No official statement about these services in iTunes Canada. ARE we going to have movies? Are we going to have TV programs? When will we have a carrier for the iPhone?
    Hello? Anyone there?

This is user to user forum only, so no one on these boards can answer your questions. When the contracts for all Canadian copyright holders are in place for Apple to distribute this content in the store, Apple will announce. Until then, anything else that may be discussed is strictly speculation & speculation on new products or services from Apple is against the "terms of use" of these forums. Sorry.

  • What's up with iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit?  Makes my PC run like a 286 on Windows 3.11.

What's up with iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit?  So slow and draggy.  Makes my high end PC with multi-core processor and video card run like a 286.  Even did this after doing a fresh install of the operating system with the latest version of iTunes.
No other software does this on my machine.  There has to be some crazy issue causing this.

    Try this,
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

I am getting the error "We're sorry we cannot complete your request on the iTunes store at this time. Please try again later." on both my iPhone and iTunes on my computer. What is wrong with iTunes? Is the server down or what? I need to download some things and update some apps...

I've been getting the same message for like an hour now.  Since everything was working fine a few hours ago, and nothing changed on my end before it stopped working, I'm guessing it's something on Apple's end.  They probably already know about it by now, and are hopefully working on fixing it, so there's probably not much we can do but wait for them to fix it.

  • What's wrong with itunes 10.5 ??!!??

itunes 10.5 is so slow, and always in "no response" status.
I cannot sync my ipad2 with itunes...
I cannot back up my ipad2!
"netsh winsock reset" does not work for me...
I have tried to uninstall then re-install for couple times but the issues are still there...
My computer is a 64-bit Win7. itunes 10.4 works perfect on it~ But I want to upgrade my ipad5 to ios5 so I need itunes 10.5 to at least perform normally!
I hope apple can release a new version and fix all the problems soon... But what can I do now?

b noir, I really appreciate your help. I looked at what you suggested, but did not follow through. I fumbled my way around a few things. I uninstalled bonjour and icloud ( I do not have a mac or an iphone, so I didn't think I needed these things). That didn't seem to help or hurt. What worked for me seemed really wierd. So as I was goofing around. I clicked on the Quicktime icon on my desktop. When it opened up, it had the advertisements for music and movies. I clicked on the John Mayer ad and low and behold my itunes opened up. Oh happy day.!

  • New hard drive...now what to do with iTunes/iPhone??

My hard drive (thanks, Mac/Apple!) crashed completely a couple months ago, and it's been that long since I've backed up my phone. After a scare tonight I realized I really need to do that...only my phone still thinks it's synced with the iTunes on the old hard drive.  The iTunes on my new hard drive has none of the content that is currently on my phone.
What do I do?? How do I back it up without losing everything? Is that even possible? The crash happened in the middle of a backup, and I lost everything on my backup hard drive as well (so awesome).  However, we still have our giant huge insane music library where most of the songs are...it would just take ages to go through it and try to figure out what I had in my library (the library is a mix of my husbands and my music). There is also new content that I want to add to my phone, but I can't see how to add that. I tried to manually manage the music and downloads, but in order to do that I have to accept an "erase and sync" which means I'll lose everything.  I was able to transfer my iPhone purchases to the new iTunes.....
I have no idea where to go from here...

I have the same situation as largirl, and I'm dismayed to see that there has been no answer to her in seven months! I really don't want to lose the podcasts, music, and apps (and their data) that I have accumulated on the iPhone.
On a different thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/8926954#8926954), I did find a helpful answer. Allan Sampson wrote:
Connect your iPhone and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. Before doing so, you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.
Allan's helpful suggestion is three years old, but fortunately, it still applies. If any Apple folks are reading this, please expand this command to let us copy everything from the iPhone to the Mac.

  • TS5376 What's wrong with iTunes that it won't install on my Win 7 laptop?

I always get Error 7 on launch.  I've tried it over and over and it still won't work.  iTunes was working perfectly until the last iTunes update and then it imploded.  I've removed and reinstalled over and over,  following the instructions perfectly.  All to no avail.  What is Apple not saying about their product that keeps it from installing correctly?

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The second box should cover you. If you get stuck please post the exact text of any error messages.

  • I just installed update version 11.1.4.62.  Now Itunes doesn't recognize my iphone or ipad.  My wife just installed the same version with the same result.  The problem is clearly a problem with itunes.  What's wrong with itunes?

I was running the previous version of itunes and it worked perfectly.  I just installed the latest version of itunes (version 11.1.4.62) and restarted the PC and now itunes doesn't recognize my iphone or my ipad.  I'm running Windows 8.1 on my pc.  I tried diagnostics to no avail.  The diagnostic didn't recognize either device.  As the directions advised, I closed itunes, disconnected the devices and stopped and restarted the apple  mobile device service,  That didn't work either.  My wife, who also has Windows 8.1, has the same problem.  She installed the new version and it doesn't recognize her devices.
Until now, itunes has been totally reliable.  I am convinced the problem is with itunes.  Where do I go from here?

I resolved the issue by doing the following:
    1. Uninstall iTunes and every Apple application (device support and such).
    2. Uninstall bonjour.
    3. Reboot.
    4. Go to Apple and install iTunes.
It worked.  When I opened iTunes (after reinstalling) it recognized all my devices, music and video.

  • What is wrong with itunes and connecting their mobile devices to a windows computer

I have an apple iPhone and two other apple devices None of which can connect and be recognized on my Alienware computer with with windows 7. The problem is never quiet the same, some times it isn't recognized and doesn't show up on itunes at all and other times i connects and disconnects rapidly. Only rarely does it sync and stay connected long enough to download a few songs, other than that its a pure hassle to deal with and is starting to become highly annoying and makes me wonder if the phone would be more useful being hit with a golf club. open to any solutions

In addition to my previous message i have discovered some new information about the problem. the mobile device driver that is installed with itunes is currupt and personal trouble shooting along with auto trouble shooting can find a solution to this problem. might possibly been an imcomplete download offered by itunes. • Please Help me Figure out What is Wrong with Itunes Video Uploads

Hi all. I would be so greatful for someones help. Since I bought my Ipod Video I frequesntly purchase videos from Itunes. Recently, I purchased 8 diffent videos-- ranging from television shows to movies, etc... The problem is that I cannot download anything fromthe Itunes store. Eachtime Itunes goes to download the items that I have purchased I receive an error message for each of the items as follows:
"There was a problem downloading “______”.
Parts of the file seems to be corrupted. To redownload the file, choose “Check for Purchases” from the Store menu."
The thing is that this happens with any videos that Ipurchase now, so I doubt that they are all currupted. Could this bean issue with my settings or something? MaybeI am a bit clueless, but it is quite frustrating that I have spent alot of $ on things that I can't actually watch The problem doesn't happen with regularmusic downloads.
Any help is VERY GREATLY appreciated.

  • Need help with what to do with iTunes switch

I recently purchased a new computer and obviously would like to transfer my old music, playlists, etc. from my old computer.
I have an external HD that was used as backup and I used it to transfer all of MyMusic file to the new computer into the music library.
The problem is that when I downloaded iTunes to my new computer, it autumatically found all of the info, but the pathways to the music is wrong. So, all the songs, albums, podcasts, playlists, etc. show up exactly as they used to, but if I try to play some of them, none of the music can be found.
Now obviously, I could go manually, song by song, and provide a new path, but with about 4000 songs, that would take me forever.
    So, what are my options?
Should I just dump everything and reload all of my music? It would take a long time of course and I would lose things like my ratings, playlists, groupings, etc.
Is there a way I can easily fix this issue? Should I delete all the music off the new computer and then move them from the external HD a different way?
I just don't know the easiest way to fix the problem and am hoping for help. Thanks in advance.

I did figure out FindTracks, but the problem is that many of my music files were grouped in different folders. So, it did find and replace all the files that were in the general folder, though it looks like I have to do many manually (ugh). Anyway, I seem to have another problem.
As I find the new paths for some of the music, the connections are restored and everything plays correctly.
However, for manhy of the songs, the connection appears to be good (no exclamation mark), but nothing plays when I click on them.
    Any ideas?

  • What to do with iTunes when you get another iPod?

My daughter has an iPod mini that is completely filled up. For her birthday, she want to get a new 30G iPod.
The thing I am wondering about it whether or not she will be able to use her current iTunes library with the new iPod. I would not want to see her start from scratch, as that would just take up more room on her hard drive.
Can you use iTunes with more than one iPod?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Actually an iPod can be used on multiple computers and multiple iPods can be used on a single computer so you'll be fine when you get your new one. You may not want to do anything too complicated but there's a lot more about it here: "How to use multiple iPods with one computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
