What's up with my battery?

I have an HP G71 with a fairly new battery. The original battery I had for this thing died, and I had to spend a good $300 replacing it from HP. After replacing it, everything went fine, until I begin to realize that it was plugged in, not charging. I ran a battery check and it said I had to replace it. Like I said, this battery is only about 2-3 months old, and was suposed to last twice as long as a normal battery. What's up with that? I don't have the money to go buy a new battery, and I just bought this one.
Failure ID: REOOW

First and foremost, be aware that these batteries have a very definite life to them, based on the quantity of full recharge cycles. From what I've seen in the forums, "normal" use will kill a battery in about eighteen months.
If you're in warranty, a battery replacement is, of course, free. The out-of-warranty cost is $60.
Before you send it in to Apple, read this link. You just might learn something that will help you out.

    What's wrong with my battery?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In most cases, OS X tells you to replace the battery when its capacity is below 80%. This is the reason why you see a message telling you to replace the battery.
It is up to you to get the battery replaced or not. If you want to get it replaced, you need to take the Mac to an Apple Store, and the battery replacement will costs $129 + labour. You can replace it yourself by buying the battery online. Also, if your Mac is in warranty, the battery replacement is free.
To be fair, your battery capacity is lower than it should be after 420 cycles, more when Apple says their batteries should have 80% of their capacity after 1000 cycles. See > http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html

  • What is wrong with my battery?

What is wrong with it? I have nothing open, other than this one app. It is only a month old, and Mountain Lion seems to have made it this way?

    Only 3:20 of battery life?

    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
I followed these directions, but the computer turned on when I initially pressed the power button while holding Option, Shift, and Control, so I don't know if it worked properly or not. I'm currently letting my battery drain, though.

  • What's append with LENOVO battery ?

    Hi, i use a 7,8 Ah on my T61p.
The battery as 86 % of nominal capability and 120 cycles.
A day after working, the battery won't charge : battery error and fast amber blinking.
I discharged it completely, same thing.
    After few days, i can charge it and now it seems to work;
My friend with the same material, have the same problem : good battery but a day, battery error and finished. Good for the garbage. Two battery in 18 months do the same thing !
All the batteries were in good conditions before this failure.

    Abouladfia,
If the protection circuit opens due to cell imbalance, a short, or other fault detected within the battery pack, the system will recognize the remaining charge level of the battery, but will neither charge nor discharge the battery further - it is electrically disconnected.
I have not seen a battery in this state, able to be recovered for use, so I'm perplexed when you say it worked again after letting it sit several days.
Many times, the batteries will not slowly degrade as one would expect, and will appear fine one day and have the protection circuit trigger the next.  I have personally experienced this on a tablet battery I have.
I'm not sure what part number you have - you might check the support site to see if your battery is covered by this extended service program.
Hopfully, you have one of these batteries.
    Best regards,

  • Anyone guess what is wrong with this battery issue?

A couple of weeks ago I noticed something unusual... it showed "not charging" in the indicator instead of a percentage... I just never seen it show up like that but it was shown that way at 93%...so I wasn't too worried. I was told to calibrated my battery. Before I calibrated my battery I let it drop down to 85% and it wouldn't recharge at all until after a while and it did start to charge, although slowly and not consistently (went from green to orange). Then I let it drain all the way and it recharged up fine and showed the steady orange. I noticed when I would use it since then it'd never show it recharging back up like it used to ("trickle")... but when I put my computer to sleep and woke it up I noticed it had recharged and whatnot. Maybe I didn't calibrate it right? I don't think I let it sleep for 5 hours. But I'm not sure if that will even fix the problem. I cleaned the magsafe adapter and the connector just in case but I don't think a dirty adapter is the problem. Something makes me think something's wrong with the logic board or battery? Am I jumping to conclusions? I didn't touch the computer after last Sunday and when I woke the computer up on Wednesday it showed "Not Charging" at 82%...I let it drop to 75% and it still says not charging with a green light. Great. I don't know what to do...I think mine is a built in battery MBP so I don't even know how to check it. I've only had this computer for 17 months. Should I trust local repairs to look at my computer? I don't really have a lot to spend... I have never been mobile with it so it's fine as a desktop but it's not ideal, especially if you were to lose it if you were working on it. I've already tried the SMC and it did nothing...unless I didn't do it right... anyone else know what I could do to try to fix the problem on my own? I'm worried about recalibrating it and it not charging back up, probably won't happen but it's in the back of my mind of constant worry.

Ok here are my recommendations for your consideration:
Goto the “apple “on your top menu bar. Click 1stoption (About this Mac) a small screen will appear
andclick on “More Info...which will take to a large another smallscreen with Mac Book Pro in huge
    letterslike this: MacBookPro.
Nextgo the “Systems Report” button: press.
NextUnder “Hardware” on the left you'll see “Power” click that.Volia the battery info
Nowlets do an analysis of the info: here's mine a 2 mo. Old 17” MBP:

      Condition:     Normal
      BatteryInstalled:     Yes
      Amperage(mA):     2131
      Voltage(mV):     12534
OK under“Charge Information” you see my MBP currently at 7806mAh (mstands Milli
which is 10 tothe -3 power) which translates to 7.806 Amp hours in non-techiespeak. As you see on mine Full Charge Capacity is 8.488 Amp hours.
Ok under healthyou see my cycle count is 17. Your very low cycle count 31 reflects that you are not “conditioning” your battery by runningit on battery till 5 minute warning or going to sleep and then fullyrecharging it! You've had it ~18 mo. And your dooming your battery to a short life.
Condition your battery for a long life.
Please notethis is a super battery 2.131 Amps @ 12.534Volts which Apple sayswill last 7 hours. Real world experience is significantly less withLion OS installed.

  • When using power adapter, what to do with the battery?

    Hi,
I own a macbook (mid july 07 model). Most of the time (99%) my macbook is on my desktop and the power adapter is plugged in. I am wondering in my senario, is it better to leave the battery in or out? I understand that there will be performances differences but I can live with the fall in performance when the battery is out, as I don't run heavy apps. Would't it be battery for the battery if I leave it 50% charged and tucked away? I read it from the apple website that if you don't intend to use the battery for 6 mths, its better to do it this way. However, I read the other post in this forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4883352&#4883352) and people suggested to leave the battery in as it doesn't make much of a difference. This kind of left me hanging, in or out? What do you guys do with your batteries? Care to share some experiences? or advise? Thanks.

It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate. You should calibrate your battery once a month.

  • What is up with my battery?

Lately I have been running my macBook off of its battery, and the battery tends to die, without warning, somewhere between 50 and 60 percent. Here is the system profiler profile on my battery (at 84% and charging):
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB013
    Pack Lot Code: 0001
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0102
    Hardware Revision: 0300
    Cell Revision: 0200
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3217
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3860
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 199
    Battery health: Fair
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 566
    Voltage (mV): 12584
I don't know if that helps at all...
Is it worth it to run the calibration? Also, if I do, the calibration instructions say to use it until it goes to sleep, then to turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer--if I turn it off do I have to leave it off for five hours?
    Thanks!

    just an addition.
I added coconut battery and it says my current capacity is 3896 mAh, and my original is 5020 mAh. It also says my computer is 21 months old. Could it be time for a new battery, or do I just need to calibrate?

  • What is up with this mysterious battery??

So, I recently asked about a battery which is not charging.... it's plugged in, shows the charging symbol on the screen. I reset the SMC (or whatever) , and after two times, it worked and the battery charged like normal. But now, it's doing the same thing, and after reseting that thing at least 4 or 5 times over the last two days, still the battery is not getting charged. And this time there is a very, very faint green light on the charger. The light on the charger also is staying on even when it is unplugged from the computer.
Strangely enough, the battery was at 14%. I unplugged it for about 15 seconds to look at the charger, and it went up to 16%. As soon as I plugged it back in, it went to 15%.
It's really confusing.... the battery is in good quality (except that it's a little bit swollen). Any suggestions how to get it charging again? Apple store is not an option right now, at least for the next month.
Actually, something bizarre just happened. In the time it took me to write this just now, all of a sudden the amber light goes on, and it shows that it is charging again like normal. Anyone have any idea WHAT ON EARTH is wrong with this battery???
Here's the info (taken before it started to mysteriously charge again) :

Battery is 3 - 4 years old, as old as the computer is. I was doubting whether it was the battery or the charger, because the battery information says the battery is good.
Also, thanks for that tip. I don't know anything about computers, I only started going on here when I had this battery problem and don't live near a store.

  • What is wrong with my phone if the battery life is draining while the phone is in the lock position?

Last night my phone just started getting extremely dim and I had it on the brightest setting. It was so dim you had to look at it under a light just to see what was on the screen. It then proceeded to lock down. I plugged it in but it would not charge. Finally, after almost an hour of being plugged in it finally started charging. It is acting completely normal except that it is constantly warm and the battery life keeps draining even when it is not in use. Does anyone know what is wrong with it? Can it be fixed? Normally, how much would this cost me? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Your phone is probably broken.

What's wrong with my iphone 4 battery after ios 7 ?
I've tried all tuning tricks - nothing changed.

This is not a current feature of any iphone, it never has been! I've heard that there are apps in the app store that allow you to transfer contacts but i'm not sure about anything else! Again you would need to look in the appstore, but again it will be very specific to that app if there are any at all!
