What's up with my screen?!

what's up with my screen?! when i go outside i see trees and the sky. how do i fix that?

Hi,
You're best solution is to try to sit in a shaded location. To outdoor sun is many times more powerful than the backlight in the MacBook. The MacBook LCD screen is a transmission mode screen. You can't see the LCD's image until light is transmitted throgh the display from behind. If you are standing in bright light, the display will look dark, barely readable.
There are also retro-reflective LCD displays that actually look better the brighter the incident light gets. The mechanism they use has different amount of twist in the LCD material. The incident light is phase shifted ny the LCD, reflected behind the panel, the phase shifted again by the display as the light wave returns in the direction of the viewer. The internal polarizer filter is set differently to accomodate the fact light passes through the LCD twice: in and back out. Unfortunately, this type of display is not available for MacBook.
There are also hybrid transmission/retro-reflective, but there is a compromise in contrast range available.
There is one thing you can try. There are neutral density filters you can try. The mechanism is: Transmitted desirable light is attenuated 50%. Incident unwanted light is attenuated 50% going toward the display, then 50% of the remaining incident light is further attenuated as it reflects back to the viewer. This gives an apparent improvement in contrast with deeper dark colors, but the over-all display is dimmer. The results might not be satisfactory in very strong light outdoors.

  • What is Wrong With the Screen on My New X1CT?

Guys, what the hell is wrong with the screen on my new (an hour ago) X1CT?  Its like there is a matte cover over the screen.  I read about the screendoor and I don't think this is that.  Its like the colors are all off, white is grey and grey is white.  There are weird lines and shimmering on the screen.
It seems to be okay on the W8 start page but there is no white there, just the metro tiles.  I have checked all settings and there is nothing I can do with any settings.
In the pic below see how the whites and greys are even reversed on the same webpage?
I just took it out of the box and started to set it up.  I'm not sure what is going on but it certainly is not right.  I doubgt i can use it like this.
Thanks in advanced for any ideas.

They are sending out a tech with a new screen and cable on Monday am.  If that doesn't fix it then its going back.  I've decided that its somthing physical as the screen just cannot make white.  The google homepage is grey not white.  There is banding and artifacts all over and even screen memory when I close windows and such.  There is no way its supposed to be like this.

  • What is wrong with the screen stays black

what is wrong with the iPod if the screen stays black and won't turn on, but is fully charged.

Could be one of the two:
    1. Device sleep - Press and hold power button for six seconds and see if that wakes up the unit
    2. Device freeze - press and hold the power and home button for few seconds till Apple logo is seen.
    Hope this helps!

  • Not sure what is up with my screen

    Hello,
My sister has a Powerbook G4 that is about 4-5 years old. I use it a lot as well as I'm in love with the keyboard and think it's one of the best keyboards.
Lately the screen has started flickering, I went to load a page today and it sort of showed a interference flicker about 3/4 down from the top of the screen and I had to adjust the screen to make to it stop. Then my sister said it's flickered on her before.
What is wrong with it exactly? Is the screen dying or does it need a new battery? My sister has a white Macbook and I have a 17" iMac so it's okay if we have to be without it for awhile but it's our favourite.

There are a couple of sites you might want to check out:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/
The have step by step guides for taking apart your Mac and replacing things. They also carry many parts. I don't know if they have the cables separately, but they might. You can always call and ask about parts not specifically listed.
If you want to check out the cable itself, you will need to remove the cables and then if there is no obvious break, use a continuity tester like an ohmmeter or a beeper to check conductivity until you find the broken conductor. It may be broken inside the insulation where you can't see it. Look for the break to be where the cable flexes when the PB is opened and closed. Especially look where it enters and exits the hinge.
    Good luck!

  • What's wrong with my screen?

I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" and lately when my battery gets really hot, or i'm in some heavy programs (Adobe After Effects and ProPresenter), my screen with start to get static lines all over it, until the screen turns off. What's wrong? Graphics card frying?

I agree this is a real problem. I have four different Ipods, and I have recently purchased the Nano to relieve crowding in my Cargo Pants (smaller pocket than will fit a Mini comfortably). None of the previous Ipods, which have dwelt in the same pockets, have shown any scratching, but my Nano is terribly scratched after being in a shirt pocket! Please let me know if the problem is being addressed by Apple. I would have put a screen protector on (by cutting one designed for a PDA if I had known that this screen was so fragile, but who knew!?! I also would have used one of the cases that Apple sells if there had not been a 4 week delay in getting them.
    Apple, are you monitoring??

  • Iphone 5s Screen: what's wrong with my screen?

Got my 5s about 3 weeks ago and have been happy with it but it started acting up tonight.
Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
It started out of nowhere, and was not dropped or wet... it starts with a line on the bottom of the screen at start up and turns to faded red vertical lines (on the bottom quarter of the screen only):
    Video of it occurring:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gds3BA9wNPc
I am in the US at the moment but upon return should I take it back to a Bell store (my carrier that I got it from) or to an Apple store?
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you bought it about 3 weeks ago, take it to an Apple Store.  It should be under warranty first.  Ask a "Genius".  Good luck!

  • What is wrong with my screen? It looks like it has a crack underneath the surface.

So, my Macbook Pro has had this "crack" in if for a little while. It started off really small but over the past year, has sort of spread. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what it is? It's over towards the righthand corner of the screen.

I suspect it will keep spreading.  If cannot live with it, you should have it replaced.
    Ciao.

  • What's wrong with my screen and how do I fix it? My iphone 4 froze so I reset it. After it turned back on I found that the screen ( the backlight, i assume) was flickering a lot at the edges.

I went to settings and turned down all the brightness and the flickering disappeared but as soon as I turned it back up it started flickering again so I decided to reset  my iphone again. After the iPhone (4) turned back on I tried pulling the brightness up again, now I can see faint vertical lines up and down the screen ( like a grid) and turning up the brightness still results in more flickering. Also, as I type this, the keyboard on my iphone is slow to recognize touch. Before it froze I had been watching a 2 hr documentary on YouTube. Did it freeze because I used the phone too much? And my iphone was on the settings app when it froze. How do I fix the flickering (and is it going to cause more damage?) and how can I make the iPhone more responsive (faster) to touch? Your help is appreciated. (Everybody hates a slow keyboard)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • What is wrong with my screen? It is blue with bubbles.

Can anyone help me?  I turned in the iPad and it had a blue screen  and watermarks/bubbles on it.

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?  Has it EVER been dropped?  Did it EVER get excessively wet?  Did you EVER load a pirated developer's version of the IOS?
If "No" to all the above, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • What is wrong with my Macbook Pro? (distorted screen, beeping, slow)

I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro (13-inch) that I got from Best Buy. It worked perfectly fine for a year, but then went crazy.
First, it started shutting down here and there, and icons bounced a lot in the dock. Then, one day, I googled something and it froze, then flashed a strip of multicolored barcode-like lines. So, I shut it down and it overheated then began to beep 3 times and flash a light.
I brought it in and they just wiped the hard drive. Then, it happened again while I was watching a video only a short time later. I was going to re-seat the RAM myself but the inside of the computer looked all messed up. I took it in and they gave me a new LCD but it has a dead pixel now. It worked fine for 1 month after that.
Then, I was using the laptop on my bed and it shut off randomly a couple of times while I was on Facebook and started beeping. I rebooted it and tried to fix it but it happened again the next day. I brought it back to Best Buy and they said it was hot and sold me a $20 cooling pad.
That worked for a few days, then I was watching TV online and it happened again. I brought it back to Best Buy and they replaced the RAM. Now, I was watching something online and it happened yet again. I was able to reboot and it worked okay now for a couple of hours but it did freeze again and I had to shut it down.
Everytime I go to Best Buy, they tell me "If we have this issue 1 more time, we will replace your computer." But, then, they say the same thing every time and that it's their policy. I have paid for Office now and only have 1 download left. Also, this is ridiculous because I'm a student and I've had my Mac gone for 2 weeks at a time at least 3 or 4 times. When this happens, I get stuck using my iPad and can't use flash so I've spent tons of money of apps for flash and other things to make my iPad functional.
Can somebody just tell me what's wrong with it? It "passes the hardware test" every time and the Geek Squad keeps asking me stupid questions like "Did you check your internet connection and reset your modem?" When I asked them the first time to do a PRAM test, they didn't know what that was and asked me to go on iTunes or clear my cache or something like that.
I have had a bad experience with them altogether. I got my Macbook for $500 because I had a PC before that I paid $700 for and it eventually broke. They were unable to repair that one because the hard drive had failed, although they had previously been convinced that I needed to uninstall my Norton to fix that problem.
Sorry if I'm ranting, but my Macbook is like a child to me (not to sound weird) and I'm sick of this problem. It's working fine at the moment but I know this will happen again randomly like always.

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select the most recent panic log under "System Diagnostic Reports." Post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID” and "Kernel UUID," two long strings of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report. Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.

  • There is always a blue screen appears after the Apple logo during the booting process. And then everything is back to normal. What is this thing? Is there something wrong with my screen or something?

Nah - that's just the normal boot process.

  • Hi...i'm still using the old iphone 3G...my phone is no longer charging...when i tried to charge it, what i see on the screen is the usb cord with the arrow pointing the itunes logo...can someone help me?

hi...i'm still using the old iphone 3G...my phone is no longer charging...when i tried to charge it, what i see on the screen is the usb cord with the arrow pointing the itunes logo...can someone help me?

It sounds like your phone is in recovery mode, which means it needs to be restored through iTunes on your computer in order to get out of it.

  • What is wrong with my log in display screen?

    Hey There guys,
This problem started occurring right after i updated to Yosemite, which was quite a while back. Every time I turn on my computer and I get to the log in screen where I put my password, half the screen is normal and the other half is black with green lines running through it(this was the latest) other times it is white rectangles with little black ones running through them. Im not sure what is wrong with it, I never dropped my mac or anything.
    I have attached an image.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
