Need help with understanding Skype Number please

Hi there,
Not sure if this is posted twice!
I live in the UK and am trying to offer online coaching through a company in America. I can only offer live chat sessions if I have a US or Canadian number. Is it a Skype Number that I need? Why would it matter which State I choose - will people only be able to contact me from that State?
Would be really grateful for some clarity.

Unfortunately, for several reasons, Skype Numbers are not available in Canada.
The concept of any virtual number is to provide a way for people who do not have accounts on the service to contact the subscriber, but using a fixed line or land line number. In the case of Skype Numbers in the United States, the best scenario would be to have a number set up where most of your customers would be able to call without incurring high toll charges or ideally no toll charges. Of note, not all states participate in the Skype Number program, again for any number of legitimate reasons.
Skype does not offer "toll-free" numbers.

No connection with my Skype number - Chile

Hi,
I have paid for a online number from Chile (currently living in Australia) and it has been working propertly until last week.
However, my family now is unable to contact me to that number. I know that in Chile was implemented a change in the way you call national numbers, you have to add the digit 2 in front of your number.

Your post was a great help to me. I have not been able to connect to Chile for a few weeks, even though I have paid for a subscription. The online support agent from skype was not able to help me either.
I tried putting a 2 in front of the number i wanted to call, and it worked.

What is it with the Skype website anyway?

I have tried from several computers to buy a $2.99/mo Canada/US unlimited Subscription. When I click the Buy button the Internet Explorer logo on the tab just spins and spins forever.
I do not have popups blocked. I have also tried it using several Skype accounts.

slow. I tried the other one, but I didn't touch that setting anymore, after seeing vcore at 2.0V while the board was on ultra turbo. That reading was from core center, so who the heck knows if it is valid.

A few extra notes on contacting Customer Service...
You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. Then, continue past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the blue "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip through Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started. When you complete the webform and click Submit, your information is relayed to Skype and you will receive a reply via e-mail.
If you are a Skype Premium or other eligible customer, you will be routed to start an instant message chat session with a Customer Service agent.

Is there any way I can use Skype Number with Viber...

Hello. With my Skype Number is there any way I can use it with Viber? So I give my Skype NUmber to a friend and they add me on Viber? Or do I have to divert my skype numebr to my actual number?

Hi, if you give your Skype number to your friend they can make a Viber Out call to that number if they have some viber credit. Calls to landlines are usually cheap but it depends where in the world your friend is calling from.
Have you got a Viber account too ? Viber to Viber over the Internet is free, like Skype to Skype being free. Persoanally I have both networks now.
Viber is on smartphones, some feature phones and there's a desktop app too. Your Viber account is based upon the mobile number you register and Viber recognises phone numbers of your contacts to see if they're registered on Viber too.

The Skype number is very unreliable. Cancel account and get a refund. Skype tech support will not acknowledge that there is a problem with the service.

Skype number not working / long forwarding times

Dear Team,
my skype number is not working although I allowed everyone to call in my privacy settings. This has been happening quite often and now it is already down all day.
I put it on forwarding to my mobile number for now, but although i set the time to forwarding to one 2nd, it takes 20 seconds or so until my phone rings. Is this normal?
Can you please help me fix this. And please don't send me the customer service link with which i should click my way through. I tried many times to "click find" my answer. I hope a discussion with a human being helps.

My hands are tied - you asked not to be provided with instruction how to contact Skype Customer Service - which you would have to click your way through - and which I would normally recommend you do just to double-check nothing is awry with your Skype Number.
Our Community Guidelines do explain that this Community is not a branch of Skype Customer Service; no customer service agents monitor the posts here. We here in the Community are not authorized to access Skype accountholder files or records.
As far as the delay in forwarding, have you tried to set your "number of rings" setting in your client software settings to "0" (zero)? Sometimes that does the trick.

Skype number unreliable / not working?

I am using Skype on a Galaxy S3.
Ever since I signed up for a Skype number I have had people emailing me saying that they were unable to contact me on the Skype number that I gave them. This has become more frequent just recently and I have missed some important calls.
When I call my Skype number from a landline it's a bit hit and miss if a connection is made.... sometimes I get "number not recognised" response from the landline. People who have attempted to call me report similar isssue or sometimes that the number is continually busy and does not go to voicemail.
I called skype support yesterday via Live Chat and was talking to the support guy for 1h 20min and achieved nothing.... he blamed it on everything from my phone provider, internet provider, that my email account was overloaded etc etc ... I think the guy must have bored and was having a joke with me..... that or he was a complete and total utter ####### idiot.
I have attached a screen shot showing settings on my Skype account page.
Currently (23 Jan) my Skype number is not working at all... when I attempt to call from landline I
get the message "the numebr that you have dialled has not been recognised"
Anyone else having reliability issues with a Skype number? Unless I get the issue resolved I will be cancelling account as it is worthless to me in it's current working state.
One more question.... I managed it yesterday, but cannot find it tooday, but how **bleep** do you get to the link for Live Chat.... all i do is get directed to send email???

Skype is aware of lingering problems with the website when contacting their customer service agents. If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community (or offered only the Community as a contact method), please try again using a different web browser and - important - choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in the browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.

Listing Skype Number in local telephone directory ...

What is the process for getting a listing in the local (Ireland, in my case) telephone directory (phonebook) using my Skype Number (which is a geographic Dublin number, where I reside). The publishers of the directory (which is available online and distributed throughout the area in paper form) indicate that only service providers can update the telephone directory. I know that other PSTN and VOIP service providers add/update phonebook listings for their users. What about Skype?
So what is the process for doing this with Skype Numbers? It is important to us that we can be listed in the telephone directory with our Skype Number.

   thanks for your response. However, I see that as a failure in Skype's duty as a service provider. I bought the Skype Number recently with the intention of holding on to it for the long term so that I could use it for my business, print it on brochures, letterheads and business cards etc. It is important that I be able to have it listed in the business pages of my local area telephone directory and in the online telephone directory. Surely you can see that as a reasonable expectation. Only service providers can update this directory. Otherwise I would do it myself. The publishers won't deal with individuals or individual busineses - only telephone service providers, so I need your help with this.
   I'm sure that other service providers have some churn in their number assignments too, but they don't use that as an excuse for not giving their customers a telephone directory listing. Skype needs to step up to the mark here and fulfill its responsibilities as a service provider and issuer of geographic telephone numbers.
   Are you saying that the only way I can do this is to transfer the number to another telephone service/VOIP provider and have them list it for me? In other words that having a Skype Number and a telephone directory listing with that number is not possible if Skype is the service provider?

Bought Skype Number, but goes to someone else?

I just got assigned a skype number, and I sent an SMS to it to verify it was working. Instead of receiving it somewhere in my Skype account, someone responds asking who I am.
Apparently Skype sold me a phone number that's in use by someone else already? What the hell, and how do I resolve this?

Skype number / Subscription confusion and frustrat...

I signed up for a skype number two years ago and I've been using one since. During my first and second years, calls within the United States were included with the number. I just renewed and it and I can't make any calls within the United States so it seems like this is no longer the case. What exactly do you get with a Skype number, free incoming calls?
I'm pretty frustrated right now. If that is all you're offering with this service then it's been a waste of my money, because I could just forward my cell calls to my google talk account for FREE. So, please tell me what I've just paid for, how I can get my mobile and land line calls at no additional charge, and, if nothing else, how it can be refunded (yes I did read the fine print).

Hello Jeff and welcome to the Skype Community! I've just looked at your account and your calls are failing because you don't have a Subscription nor credit. Skype Numbers have been a standalone product for some time now.
1. A Skype Number is for your contacts to call you - inbound calls - irrespective of your location. It travels with you wherever you go. Skype Number
2. To make calls to or within the USA you need either an Unlimited USA/Canada Subscription or some credit. Skype subscription Buy Skype credit
3. Normally Skype Numbers aren't refundable but you can try by filing here:

I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

Can not access my skype number

I don't know what has happened to my skype number. I am still paying monthly what I thought was the amount to maintain it. When trying to purchase a skype number, my number does not come up as available. Calling the number gives a delayed ringing for two rings and then two fast busy signals.
Who can be contacted that can search my phone number and see if there is a technical problem?
