What's Up with the Mercury Playback Engine?
One of the reasons I bought Premiere CS5.5, is the new mercury playback engine, Adobe says, that you know longer have to render your video files, and they play back smoothly.
The first thing I did in premiere pro cs5.5, was testiing out the new engine.
As soon as a imported my .MOV file on the timeline and played it back, it was SO laggy. I got probably 1 frame every 2 seconds, So, I rendered out the 10 second clip which took 4 minutes, adn then added an effect, and played it back too again find that it was laggy like before.

Hi. I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 and K4200 are compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. My old graphic card NVidia Quadro FX580 is not listed and not effective apparently because Mercury Playback Engine is effective as from 1Gb RAM. I use a HP workstation and AVCHD (AVCCAM) and DSLR full HD. Thanks.

Deleted private user information (email address)It is compatible, but why anyone would want such a weak and slow card at a premium price is beyond me. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use? and GeForce GTX980 vs Quadro k4200 (2200) #2.

Nvidia Geforce 670 and the Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration for Adobe Premiere Pro
Will Adobe test and certify the Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 for use with the mercury playback engine GPU acceleration feature of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 in the near future? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance for any help.
Adobe only certifies after extensive testing... For many others, with at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file - and Mac http://www.vidmuze.com/how-to-enable-gpu-cuda-in-adobe-cs6-for-mac/

Intel Iris Pro GPU in new Macbook Pros supported by the Mercury Playback Engine?
Is the Intel Iris Pro GPU in the new Macbook Pros supported by the Mercury Playback Engine?
Hi,
I've been wondering the same thing. I watched this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATKDuQOQw9k
if you jump to 07:50 the dude clearly shows that it IS supported in PPRo CC (which I have), but when I go to the project settings on my new MBP 15" with identical specs, the area where I can select gpu support is greyed out with no options to change from software only. Did the expert guy in the video accidentally show the settings from his old NVIDIA MBP? Very confusing!! Also, there's a lot of publicity around the Intel Iris Pro's great ability to render Open CL with Adobe PPRo. And even a video about it here:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/accelerating-video-production-with-opencl-and-intel -iris-graphics
Is this only for PC?? If so I imagine Adobe can get this going on Mac pretty damn fast, no?
Please advise Adobe folk!
Thanks! -
I installed PP CS6 on a Mac OS 10.10.2, installed latest drivers for Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 graphic card including Cuda driver. The Mercury Playback Engine is grayed out. But when I open an installed trial version of PP CC the Mercury Playback engine is not grayed out. Do I have a problem with CS6 software?? Thanks for any input you can offer.

Imac 2012 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX will it work with adobe Mercury playback Engine?
imac 2012, 28" 16 gigs ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 gigs ram, will it work with adobe Mercury playback Engine for accelerated rendering in Premiere Pro & After EffectsOne would certainly think so, since earlier, lesser GTX cards were supported...

Supported NVIDIA graphics cards for GPU acceleration
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 570 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 580 (Windows) -
Windows 7 Pro, fresh installation, include all updates
Premiere Pro CC - actual version
Gainward GTX Titan Z - actual firmware and driver
SSD Hard Drive
Intel i7/ 960/ 3.2GHz/ 32GB RAM
Mercury Playback Engine - GPU is activated.
Card is known by standard in cuda_supported_cards.txt
Selected Clip: 1920x1080i, 25fps, AVCHD/mp4
Seleceted effect: Warp stabilizer with Subspace-Warp (Standard-parameters)
Step 1: Analyse the clip
The Intel i7 is working with 90%, not the GPU
The status monitor of the Nividia-card shows 0% used performance
Playing the analysed clip (informations from the Cuda Render System):
Total render time: 26ms
Display FPS: 0.82
Scheduler FPS: 2.28
Target FPS: 25.00
Rendered FPS: 3.50
Total: 239
Dropped: 234
=> Playing the analysed clip is dropped extremly.
Step 2: Rendering the clip
The Intel i7 is working with 90%, not the GPU
The status monitor of the Nividia-card shows 0% used performance
The Warp Stabilizer is shown as a GPU-Cuda supported effect.
The GPU doesn't help the Intel i7....?!
Please help me!Thank you for your fast response!
Warp-Stabilisation shall be a GPU accelerated effect. -
What do I do?: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration missing

Issue with using the Mercury Playback Engine in Hardware Accel mode on the new Mac Pro
So I have seen many people with this same issue but different variations... I have a late 2013 mac pro with the D300 video card. when i am editing a project and turn on hardware acceleration (open CL) everything works fine, its super fast i can export etc... BUT when I close the project and try to re open it premiere locks up every time, not getting past the opening screen. I then have to open the project on my macbook pro and go in to settings and turn off the hardware acceleration to software only, then re save the project file. THEN i can open the project back on my Mac Pro...
Macbook Pros do not have separate graphics cards — they are soldered onto the logic board and not interchangeable or replaceable. You can order the cards that are offered, no others. I have no idea whether or not Premiere likes any of them.

Mercury Playback Engine not working on PrPro CC 2014
Hello everyone. My Asus J750JS (NVIDIA 870M) modified with a Samsung 1T SSD for Footage and a original 240GB SSD for C: and F: (chache) my Adobe CC remove all the .TXT with CUDA CARDS SUPPORTED file!!!! and i am using CPU only!! even when the Mercury Playback Engine its on!!! please help!!!
You can see that the Warp Stabilizer (CUDA effect) with the Mercury Playback Engine activated give me red line!! i am working on a important project and i need a fast solution PLEASE!!....in addition to the advice I gave on your other post....as great as our Asus gaming laptops are...they are STILL TWICE AS SLOW AS A POWERFUL DESKTOP SYSTEM running PPro !!! My new G750JW compares in performance with some of the BEST DESKTOPS.....but, from THREE YEARS AGO !!!!!
There is only SO MUCH you can do with a laptop.....much of the professional software today takes advantage of the greater power of current desktop systems and will not run at its best on a less powerful laptop. Now that you have dramatically improved your drive system by getting rid of the 5400rpm HDD and installing the Samsung SSD , ( hopefully, the 850 pro model and NOT the EVO), you STILL need to max out your system memory to 32GB from 16., With warp stabilizer, a desktop system with a 6 or 8 core CPU running at over 4Ghz would behave MUCH differently !!! I do NOT know if more memory would help with warp stabilizer.....I know it DOES help with other operations I have used on PPro !! Take the test at the PPBM7 website to see the performance of your machine and identify any potential problem. -
Adobe premiere pro CS5.5 Mercury playback engine with CUDA
Hello,
I am trying to turn on the mercury playback engine to use my graphic card (Geforce 9800 GT)
I have modified that cuda_supported_cards.txt using my graphic card name and when I tried to save it it says access denied
so I have copied that cuda_supported_cards.txt file to the desktop and modified it and replaced it back in to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 .
After all this the mercury engine with cuda is not turning on
Is it becasue my graphic card will not support to CS5.5?
Please help me.....
Thank you...Does your card have 1Gig of video ram?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 gigs ram, will it work with Mercury playback Engine for accelerate
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 gigs ram, will it work with adobe Mercury playback Engine for accelerated rendering for Premeire Pro cs6?
I am a PC guy but, I have 6 work stations with CS6 but the wife wants a Mac so I am getting her an imac with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 gigs ram. Do you think this video card in the mac will still be able to utilize the Adobe CS6 MPE?
It's not formally supported by Adobe for GPU acceleration; however judging from the fact that the lesser GTX-650M is (with 6.02 update), and the end-user ability to enable support for unsupported cards in Adobe apps, it should work. -
Mercury Playback Engine on Premiere Pro 8.0
I have the older version of Premiere Pro CC working well on my PC W8 using my GTX680. I discovered that I had installed the new Premiere Pro (2014) on my PC. When I started it up there was a message about the GPU acceleration and I found that the Mercury Playback Engine option was greyed out.I checked the text file and found my card listed there and I do not know what to do.
I have started PP CC 2014 several times and the Mercury Playback Engine option is always greyed out while the older version of PP CC still runs with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration. Do you know what that notice said to do? Was it something about updating drivers?

Mercury playback engine makes Premiere crash after cs6 update
Hi there everyone,
I have been working with Premiere cs5 for over a year without any serious errors. Since I upgraded the entire Creative Suite to cs6 however, I am forced to use the software playback method instead of the GPU accelerated one. Using the last mentioned causes Premiere to crash immediately when trying to drag any sort of video on the timeline. This happens in new projects as well as in cs5 ones; and all of the footage involved in both cases was ingested in the wellknown Matrox i-frame codec that always worked fine before. Specs:
Windows 7, 24 gB RAM (not sure whether DDR3 or 5), NVidia Quadro 4000, dual six-core CPU, several terras of HD @ 7200 rpm, Matrox MX02 LE, CS6.
I tried every possible combination and order of uninstalling an reinstalling Premiere, the Matrox drivers and the nVidia drivers, including older versions of the last two mentioned, but to no avail. Though it looks like an NVidia issue (I read somewhere about CS5 and 5.5 certified NVidia drivers but not CS6 yet) this problem manifested right after the upgrade to CS6.
The error reported is about the graphics card being reset, it stops and then recovers, leaving Premiere to hang. The card's hardware reacts with a noisy cooling fan acceleration sound that slowly falls back to its normal rpm.
-Sigh- I am sorry to bother you with this, but does anyone have any idea or experienced something similar? Does the combination of the mentioned elements ring a bell...?
Any help is utterly appreciated !Hi Harm,
I couldn't find anything in the logs about temperature, but I did find some other logs. However: when I re-install a newer NVidia driver version, the PC will not crash, only Premiere crashes in that case, which lets me believe this is not just a hardware defect. The hardware however does play a role.
What I found in the event viewer are messages like:
A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (4)
The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application

Most of all I saw this:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Windows\system32\vsnpstd3.dll".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\system32\vsnpstd3.dll" on line 2. The value "X64" of attribute "processorArchitecture" in element "assemblyIdentity" is invalid.
This report pops up hundreds of times... but I don't think the vsnpstd3.dll file, dating back to 2009, could be a problem all of a sudden.
It looks more like a Windows Time-out thing causing to reset the graphics card because the load of graphic data is too big to handle. The only strange thing is that the time-out action is taken by Windows before the usual two seconds have passed, it takes just a fraction of second. This leads me to believe that, during the demand from the Mercury Playback Engine to the NVidia card, "false information" is passed to Windows... i.e. a software problem.
I am thinking about rolling back to Premiere CS5 to see what happens... if this version would be working flawless again, that would be pretty steady proof for doubting the MPE of CS6.
To be continued...
