What's Up with these random playback pauses on iTunes that never get fixed?

I was using OS X Lion, and it started there, now I've upgraded my MacBook Pro early 2011 (already upgraded to 16GB OWC RAM) to OS X Mountain Lion, the problem persists, and it gets worse, I don't know which music I can play that will not pause every 5 seconds.
The worse part is, googling for `itunes pausing randomly' you see people complaning since 2008!!!

I'm considering to abandon the native OS X music player.

CleanMyMac is an unnecessary tool.
It does not do anything for you more than OSX already does itself, and it slows down the mac a bit, can cause problems (although not having heard often.
Please download Etrecheck ( http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck ), run it and paste the result here. maybe we can find the cause of the issue when it is not SoundFlower.
That the problems were not there in the beginning of the "7 years" does not say anything: you are useing a totally different OS now (64bit and....).

I can't see what's wrong with these rules. Does any one see the problem?
Passport data is verified if
Database provides an exact match for the passport number and date of birth.
Photo matching is required if

The investigation session asks the question "does Database provide an exact match ..." Response is True.
"Photo matching is request" is set to true because "Passport data is verified" is true.
Then the investigation stops. It doesn't go on and ask if "user states that photo ...". This arrtibute has the value of <unknown>. All the identifiers (red numbers) match up correctly. I just can't see what is wrong.

Your idea was helpful. It was a goal, but not a top level goal. By checking the data at each step, I found that a higher level rule that was dependent on these rules was the culprit. I should have had an "and" when I had wrote the rule with an "or". I don't entirely understand why this higher level rule needed to have "and" instead of "or", but it works now and that's all I care about.

Beginning yesterday morning, I've gotten four calls from area codes within California. I do not recognize the numbers, and I have no contacts in these areas.

All my phone numbers have been on the DNC registry since 2007; I have current confirmations.
It is apparent to me that Verizon has no interest in dealing with this problem; I am still NOT convinced that my personal information was not leaked or otherwise compromised by Verizon. Your assurance that you do not release personal information to third parties is of little comfort to me; Verizon, like any other organization, has in its employ dishonest and/or incompetent people.

I don't understand what's happening with my Music. All the songs that I purchased, that were previously on my phone, now show up a Cloud next to them, but I can't play them. If I touch the Cloud, it turns into a red square but never downloads.

I've sync'd my phone, I've turned it to "show all music" in Settings, I've drag and dropped the songs/albums onto my phone again. I feel like I've tried everything I've seen recommended, but nothing works.
I've purchased a lot of music from iTunes. It should be there. What's going on?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match. Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

I am having trouble with app updates on my iOS 5 iPhone never getting beyond the "waiting" state. I have tried signing out/in of my account, rebooting and removing/re-installing the apps. This started shortly after going to iOS 5 but I am not certain if that is related. All updates that I try now are stuck in "waiting". I also tried removing the apps and then installing via iTunes desktop sync with no improvement. The only thing that I have not tried so far is a restore to a prior iPhone backup. I have not been able to find anything to indciate what the updates on waiting on. There is plenty of space on the iPhone (16gb available). Any suggestions on what to try next?

First thing I would recommend is to check your downloads queue to make sure there is not an interrupted download per the following Knowledge Base article:

If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
2. For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
3. Enter your account name and password if prompted.
4. Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
If you can't complete the download on your iOS device, you can download it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then sync it to your iOS device. You can also transfer purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer.
For Apps, you can also try tapping on the application icon to resume the download, as outline in this featured discussion:

Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

What's up with these things in CS5?

Since upgrading to Photoshop CS5, I'm coming across a number of things that don't work like they worked.....I'll even go as far as to say "as well as they worked," in previous versions, and I'm wondering if these are bugs, functionality changes, errors, or something else that I'm somehow missing....like a preference that I could turn on or off. I'll list them below. Any feedback from Adobe or otherwise greatly appreciated.
1. When using the type tool, it used to show up with a box around it, then when it was hovering over existing text, the box would go away, and it would just be the type tool up and down line with its little serif things...that way I could tell when I was going to click into an existing type layer or whether clicking was going to generate a new layer. Now however, the bounding box never appears, so I don't know if I'm going to be clicking to select an existing layer or create a new layer? Bug or by design?
2. When I have a vector layer selected, and that vector path preview thing is showing around the object to show me that my vector object is indeed selected, then I select one of the layer effects on that layer to edit, I used to be able to hit Apple+H to hide the vector path outline thing while the layer effects window was open....now when I hit Apple+H, the "View" menu icon flashes but nothing happens. Bug?
3. This is a really weird specific one that I will be amazed if I am not the only weirdo encountering....in other words, I'll be amazed if someone else has come across this same thing. I like to create layer actions for all kinds of things. One of the things is creating a layer action to duplicate the current layer. In previous versions of Photoshop, I could click a little box next to the "Duplicate Current Layer" command in the actions panel, and that would force a little dialogue to come up whenever that action got triggered....the dialogue being the layer name dialogue....before the action would complete. This was handy because when I called up that action, it would duplicate the current layer while providing me with a handy dialogue at the same time to name that new layer. This is no longer an option in CS5 because that little dialogue no longer shows up next to the "Duplicate Current Layer" command. WTF!?
4. I'm sure this is a by design feature, and maybe I'm the only one that finds this incredibly annoying... I used to be able to be working in full screen mode, then open another file, and have that new file not open in full screen mode. This was handy if say I was working in full screen mode, and opened another file because there was something in that file that I wanted to drag into the file I was already working in.. Nope! Now if I'm working in full screen mode, everything else that I open then opens in full screen mode... Do I just have a bassackwards way of working, or does this throw anyone else off as well? Maybe I'm just weird, but I really enjoyed being able to work with a bunch of documents in different screen modes... Could this one be a preference that I can turn off somewhere?
5. Again, this may be something where I'm the only person in the world that used this feature. If I had say the direct-selection arrow tool selected, and I wanted to select a different layer, I used to be able to do this handy shortcut/combination of keys to select that new layer...I would hold down Control Option Command, and click, and the layer I clicked on would be auto-selected. Brilliant! Now, doing that key combination and clicking brings up a weird color-picker thing that I don't understand, and that I probably have to read some documentation to figure out what it even is. This one seems to be by design, but annoying when a keyboard shortcut that is practically stored as a grove in my brain now does something else. I literally need to change the physical form of my brain before I will stop trying to make that shorcut work! It just doesn't work. As many times as I might try it and hope that the Photoshop Elves have changed it back to what it used to do, it's fate seems to be sealed in a new direction... Unless...?
These things frustrate me every time I use Photoshop, and I really hate to be frustrated by Photoshop!!! I wish we could just be friends like we used to when a new release was amazing, like "Wow, this new version of Photoshop has LAYERS! Amazing!" or, "Wow, Photoshop now has a thing called History! Incredible!" Those were the days! Now I sometimes feel like things just change from one release to the next...like Photoshop hit a peak at a certain point, and...I know it sounds harsh...but now they just keep finding reasons to create new versions that are no longer about creating a better application, but more about making money. Can't we all just go back to CS4!!?? Ah OK, I'll stop ranting...
Save me...show me the light! Enlighten me! What has my life come to? Surely there's better things to worry about!

ad 3) Try recording command-alt-J instead of command-J, that should provide the »Toggle dialog on/off«-field in the Actions Panel.
ad 4) I think that has been changed since CS4 at least.
I also preferred the old behaviour, but I doubt it will be re-introduced anytime soon.
ad 5) I seldom use those combinations, but with the Direct Selection Tool doesn’t command-clicking suffice?

What's Up with the Mercury Playback Engine?

One of the reasons I bought Premiere CS5.5, is the new mercury playback engine, Adobe says, that you know longer have to render your video files, and they play back smoothly.
The first thing I did in premiere pro cs5.5, was testiing out the new engine.
As soon as a imported my .MOV file on the timeline and played it back, it was SO laggy. I got probably 1 frame every 2 seconds, So, I rendered out the 10 second clip which took 4 minutes, adn then added an effect, and played it back too again find that it was laggy like before.

Without seeing the error message, one can only guess. Some JDBC drivers do not allow you to get a column more than once, so that may be your problem. Store the result of rs.getString("url") in a String variable in the first line, and use that variable in the table cell.

Adobe Send - Problem with uploading files. When is this going to get fixed?

When is the Adobe Send problem with uploading files going to get fixed. Similar to others - I have tried and tried to make Adobe Send work and get an error. I have tried to upload the file and it looks like it uploads and then - it is nowhere to be found.
I then go to Adobe Send Now and it works fine.

The problem is the same as described in other similar threads.
I have a 57 MB PowerPoint file I am trying to send using Adobe Send. I go through the normal steps to identify the file and select recipients and then send the file. After the file completes the upload - an error saying there was a problem comes up and the file is not uploaded.
I have tried to upload the file to the site with similar results - error and the file doesn't go.
I can go to the old SendNow site and it works flawlessly.
If I need to get screenshots - let me know. There are several other threads describing this same problem. It isn't something new or not heard of before.

Hey Apple, what's wrong with these Li ion batteries and PMU?

One of the reasons why we buy laptop is to use it for travel and work. I am not really happy with the fact that i had to reset the PMU twice in a month, and then have to recalibrate the battery again.
What is this new Apple paradigm? we buy a laptop for roughly $2500 and it has to be calibrated and reset every month? When is apple going to provide a good answer to this problem?
I don't buy a MacBook pro because i like playing with the hardware and software, and reading these Apple Discussions, i buy it because i need a working tool, that can work on battery for more than 4 hours for at least 2 years. If it is not the case, then Apple should take steps to replace the deficient part(s) (and please, don't crash my hard drive as it is quite valuable to me!-).
I like apple products and i have quite a few at home and at work, but it needs to meet users' requirements!

I have to concur with this statement. Having used Mac's for years I'm totally dissappointed with my MBP's reliability. I placed the order during the Job's keynote at Macworld SF last year and waited for weeks for it to arrive.
I'm now on my third battery and have all sorts of start-up issues. Since the last update 10.4.9 my screen periodically goes dark (from bottom to top, like it's filling up with water) and a message telling me to restart -- I've never seen this on any Mac.
My display will suddenly lose sync and go all fuzzy (not my second monitor, just the laptop display) for no reason. And, just to add insult to injury, some of the paint underneath my spacebar has started to peel off.

What is it with these Apple Curser Ads?

These advertisements just started popping up this morning, 4/18/10 on my computer. They are tied to the curser someway. They block what I am trying to read and I find them very irritating!!

It looks like an Apple implanted program/virus of some sort or I wonder if they were running some sort of test on some computers.
That's a bit of a tinfoil-hat idea. Whatever you're seeing, it's not something that Apple is doing to spam you with ads... that sort of thing is counter-productive, as anyone intelligent knows, and Apple management is certainly not stupid. Not to mention that it's absolutely, completely opposite to every user-interface philosophy Apple has ever expressed.
Whatever's going on, we're going to need more information to help. We need screenshots and we need more information about the context in which you are seeing these things. In particular, you may want to pay attention to what page is loaded in Safari when you see these things... I know you said you aren't using a web browser at the time, but it's possible something has gone wrong and your machine is showing tool tips inappropriately.
Tool tips are little yellow boxes, like what you describe. They are meant to be used for help text. One common use is a title attached to a button or link on a web site. For example, when writing a message on these forums, hover the mouse over the text formatting buttons above the main message text field. Are those something like what you are seeing?

What's up with "determining gapless playback" ?

When I import songs into iTunes it says it's "determining gapless playback" and it takes a really long time! (I have a couple thousand of songs in my iTunes library and I'll have over 10,000 before I'm done with all this importing).
What is it doing and is there a way I can turn it off and only do it once when I'm done importing all this music?

bumping this post because I'm having a similar problem. Mine does this for 170 songs (of 7,000 in my library) every time I sync my iPod. Most of the songs it goes through are purchased from iTunes and I don't even have the whole albums, just one or two songs. POINTLESS waste of time!
For the record, though, I love the gapless feature (listened to Abbey Road tonight on my iPod, worked beautifully!). Just want to know why it has to determine the info again for EVERY SYNC!

What is WRONG with Acrobat (Randomly Drops Text)

I'm at the end of my rope
with Acrobat CS3. It randomly distills my contract documents with whole para
graphs missing here and there. Sometimes I can reboot and get the whole document to print, but again today, I have a contract that
didn't print completely even after a full system reboot.
Trying to distill from Word 2003. Short documents of a page are usually okay, though I have been having problems with some lines of text missing on invoices I print out of Excel. But this 5-page contract is giving me headaches.. I'll have to resort to either printing and scanning the doc back in and distilling it as a graphic to PDF, or copying and pasting the whole thing into QuarkXpress, which has a PDF distiller that is 100% reliable. I wish I could use THAT distiller with Word! I can't stand this. Why can't Acrobat distiller reliably distill documents? A contract is a serious thing.. missing paragraphs can mean serious legal trouble!!
I need an alternative, unless there is a fix for this problem.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of converting it to Postscript first.. I
can print to Postscript printers without this missing text. It's only when I print to Acrobat that text, headers and footers are missing after the first page.
As I am not having trouble printing to Postscript devices, I doubt the hotfix would help. Anyway, there's no clickable download link, and when I request support, they only have a hotfix for Vista and XP SP4. I'm on SP2.
I can print to Postscript driver and then import the PS into Quark and print it out that way. I think that works, as Quark's PDF writer always works flawlessly and with no delays. The Acrobat distiller takes about 2 minutes to create my file, 90 seconds of which, it appears to be frozen still. Quark takes 3 seconds to do the same thing and the resulting PDF has no missing elements.
