What's Using Our Bonjour Port?
I'm afraid we'll need an Apple Netowrking genous to solve our local wireless problem. First, our iPads won't connect to our local SMS, DHCP wireless net unless we go into their setting and turn the connection off then on again. This occurs even in the same session, without turning the iPads off. They are running different operating systems and we've tried everything listed on the web, including the brightness monitor weirdness.
Second, we've begun having problems establishing a bonjour network for syncing and serving up a Calibre library that we never had before. A check to see what's using 8080 I shows this:
Active Internet connections (including servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
tcp4 0 0 *.8080 . LISTEN
Could these two problems be related? How might we go about troubleshooting? Thanks so much for any help.

That would be the smartest move. It comes with our ISP deal and we have really fast speeds. I fixed it by tinkering with the DNS numbers. Not sure exactly what did it but everything is working now.
If it is working now, then you certainly don't need to mess with it. But just remember that you only have to use it for the ISP portion of your connection. You get get your own wireless router and connect it using an ethernet cable. So, if you wanted to get something like a Time Capsule one day, you still can.

Mac XServe is our CS3 server. Trying to upgrade to CS5 and found out Version Cue is no longer. Read and found the Drive 2.0. It can't seem to connect to my current server. We still have access with one of our CS3 machines. Is there a program I need to get to continue on with our versioning and the ability to use our projects we have? Or do I need to go into every project and export or something to be able to start using CS5? Thank you in advance for any help!!!

Hitting the Log Out button in the MobileMe panel worked. I can now connect to both the SnowLeopard and Lion servers just like I used to.
My condition appears to have been slightly different from yours, gmia - the MobileMe on my MBP had the correct info, but hose are not the credentials i use to remote to the two servers. I'm guessing that for some reason ScreenSharing began using my MobileMe credentials instead of what I had saved in the keychains.
Wonder if it had anything to do with the shutdown of the MM servers. That would be odd as using ones apple ID to log into a Mac remotely was new with Lion, and I had the same problem with our SnowLeopard server - which I remote into much more frequently.
Probably didn't hurt though to reboot the entire network... -

Since I've upgraded to Maverick on my Macbook Pro the airpot utility does not recognise that there is a time capsule on the wireless network. I can see the TC using the air port utility on my iPhone5 and on my iPad. What am I doing wrong on my macbook?
I have over 250G backed up and I really don't want to reset everything and start again.
Not sure what you mean here.
A reset will not affect any of the data on the Time Capsule hard drive. You would have to perform a completely separate and very deliberate Erase Disk operation for that to occur.
I'm not recommending that you perform a default reset, but it is an option if there is really nothing else to try.
I don't know if what you are seeing is a Mavericks issue or not, since I refuse to use any new software until at least the first major update with fixes comes along.
Another user may be able to offer more input on Mavericks. -

Port 7777 in use, but cannot identify what is using it...
Hi, all~
I'm having a problem with a Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2 template (that has since been upgraded to 5.5).
When I do a "netstat -an | grep 7777", I get the following output (where the x's are the IP of this machine):
tcp 0 0 x.x.x.x:7777 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
So, there's -something- listening on 7777.
My first guess is that there's an Oracle HTTP server install somewhere on the machine, as that's it's usual port. But doing a "ps -elF | grep httpd" comes up empty. But the strange thing is that if I open a browser to http://x.x.x.x:7777, I don't actually get 404'd - I just get a blank page. So something responded to that http request, just didn't provide any output.
Ok, well, back to netstat... I did a "netstat -npl" in an effort to get a PID associated with the process that's listening to that port, but for that entry, no PID is provided:
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3872 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2473/emagent
tcp 0 0 x.x.x.x:7777 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:65291 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3868/nmz
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:686 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN -
Poking around online, a lot of people suggested trying out the lsof command... so I did, but "lsof | grep 7777" also comes up empty.
So... any suggestions of things to try to help sort out what is actually running on 7777?
Thanks in advance,

Oracle HTTP Server listen port / Oracle HTTP Server port 7777 Oracle Application Server Edit httpd.conf and restart OHS
There is also $ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini and some information should be in the EM configuration files.

In some of my old notes I found:
2. Are you using the correct port in your URL reference to the OMS?
To check this goto the $OMS_ORACLE_HOME/install directory & take a look at 2 files, portlist.ini & setupinfo.txt.
The portlist.ini will contain the port assignments. Default for Grid Control being 7777 (Oracle HTTP Server port) & 4889
(Enterprise Manager Central Console Port) i.e. http://<OMS_Hostname>:7777/em or http://<OMS_Hostname>:4889/em

Are you running 10g Enterprise Manager Grid Control? Perhaps there is a problem and you need to shut it down:
it's been a while since 10g, but wasn't it like: emctl stop oms ? emctl stop agent etc. -

WLC 5508 - What is the use of service port.
Hi,
I am getting hard to understand use of service port in wlc 5508,
Even after reading so much post and cisco note I am not understanig the use of (Even basic use) service port.
As I understand service port should be access port and should be in diffrent vlan.
Pleae help me to understand it in simple way....Hi Tarun,
Like others mentioned it is used for Out of Band Management of a WLC. Many do not use this as it could leads to issues unless you properly configure it & put it onto two completely different supernets. Config guides highlighted those restrictions & below is one of them listed in 7.4 config guide
Do not configure wired clients in the same VLAN or subnet of the service port of the controller on the network. If you configure wired clients on the same subnet or VLAN as the service port, it is not possible to access the management interface of the controller.
In situations you can use it to get access by directly connecting a laptop to take configuration backup or restore configuration to a controller. In the below post I have used service port to take backup & restore the configuration to a WLC.

CSS 11501 ftp server setup problem using non-standard port
Dear Expert,
we would like to setup FTP server over CSS where our member sever use non-std-port to open both control/data channel (i.e. 6370 as ctrl and 6369 as data this case.) but seems we only get Passive mode FTP mode work only but not for Active mode FTP case for data channel establishement for server back to client...is there any professional advise can help on this case...? here is our setup info FYI

activeThanks for your confirmation on no prob found in config level 1st..:P..as to save us a lot of time in isolating problem at this level.
What we can notice is seems the data port connection is fail to open for server back to client....for our general sense..... the flow expected should be:
TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:6370
TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 6379 [on demand generated between server/client]
but we can only see session B fail to setup when client side access VIP site on CSS..even we try to put the most standard case as below
TCP session A -- Client:1234 --> VIP:21 --> member svr:21
TCP session B -- Client: 5678 <--> VIP:20 <--> member Svr: 20
we still unable to make the Active mode FTP access work either...hence we got no idea on how CSS handle FTP access when it involve services over multiple tcp ports..
and from CSS xlate view...the problem is we can only see what NAT IP that used in CSS connect to client...but no way to confirm for which port for VIP using outgoing to client. neither it is dropped by CSS..nor it is never setup from VIP to Client side. -
Fmsmaster using admin server port
It seems after a while the admin server stops responding on our fms server. When logging into the linux machine, I can see that the fms admin process is not running, and the pid in fmsadmin.pid is stale. When trying to restart the service with:
"./fmsmgr adminserver restart"
it fails to start the service with the following message in /var/log/messages:
Failed to create listener for adaptor admin, IP , port 1111: TCCommBridge::createListener 0.0.0.0:1111/v4: bind failed!!!.
Failed to create listener for adaptor admin, IP , port 1111: TCCommBridge::createListener 0.0.0.0:1111/v4: bind failed!!!.
Failed to initialize listeners for adaptor admin, FMS is already running or other processes are using the same ports.
Checking to see what is listening on port 1111 with netstat:
tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:11110 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 11005/fmsmaster
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:1111 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 11005/fmsmaster
This is the second time this has happend. How is it possible for fmsmaster to be using the admin server ports, and how would I prevent this in the future?

FMS is still configured to only listen on 1935,443,80. Does this mean it is something to do with the machine itself or maybe the installation of fms? -
2950 Catalyst - what do green to amber ports mean?
Occatioanl our grren ports flicker to amber, what does this mean?
You could have a problem but not necessarily. The first thing to do is check the port to see if it is running in half duplex. I have seen router attached ports at half duplex ocassionally flash amber due to the number of collisions during heavy traffic. That is not really a problem, but collisions can get excessive if the traffic is too high. If the link is actually dropping you have a cable fault. I have seen people try to use old cat3 patch cables and that will cause the light to turn amber, but the link is actually bouncing. You can check the logs for that.
Like someone else said, you could have a duplex mismatch, but you should be able to verify the duplex settings on both sides easy enough.
