  • What is better Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Exel

I am working on Macbook pro retina for around 16 hours a day,  it is ok but the screen is to small. I am opening about 25 - 30 EXCEL windows, 20 - 25 safari windows at the same time. Excel windows are small, they only show 40 rows and S column   Now I am considering buying  iMac 5k ( but the screen is only 27", however a very high resolution but I think that fonts and digits displayed may be too small ). I am also considering Mac Mini or Pro with 40" 4K TV ( 4k computer monitors are 27 - 31" , so better idea would be purchasing iMac 5k ) . The problem is that 40 - 42" TV don't have Display Port ( I can't find  it anywhere )
Please help me to choose what would suit my needs better. I need large screen to work comfortably with an Excel sheets.  What is better? Mac Mini or Mac Pro and 4K 40" screen or iMac 5K for work with Excel ?. The other problem I have is that when I spend  16 hours at work with retina macbook , my eyes are ok. Using the  30'' Dell screen 2560/1440 my eyes are tired after 2 hours.
Thanks for your help on advance
    Best regards
    David

Currently you can only get 4 K at 30 Hz via HDMI. Some users have reported jerky curser movement because of the 30 Hz.
I would go for the 5K iMac. You can add a second screen at 4K.

  • What should my mac mini have if primarily for music?

I'm planning on purchasing a mac mini for the primary reason of storing and playing music on my home stereo.  While I know that there will be the occasional time when I'll use for browsing and email, it will be used with AppleRemote to play music usingh iTunes as my music manager.
That being said - I have three specific questions.
Does CPU type and speed matter and if so, in what way?
Will I benefit from a Fusion drive and if so, in what way?
Will I benefit from adding more memory and if so, in what way?
    TIA - JP

If you purchase the current model, or any Intel Core 2 Duo Mini the baseline CPU, memory, and standard disk drive will be fine. You will not see any real improvement with more memory better processor or Fusion drive.

  • What dose a Mac Mini actually do?

Yes i wanted to know what a mac mini, dose. lets say you use it with a iBook G3, but need a G4 processor, but can't buy a new computer, what dose it do? Can your iBook G3 get upgraded to a G4 or what? i'm confused about this whole deal, so if theres anyone who can help, feel free to help. thanks!
    iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The mini is an entry level computer. Hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse (It doesn't come with any of the three, you have to provide or buy your own) and do what ever voodoo, you do, with a computer as It's a desk top computer (A very small one!)
It has nothing to do with an iBook at all. they are totally separate computers, one is a laptop the other is a desk top. you would buy the mini as a replacement for the lap top (and have to provide a monitor, mouse and keyboard as mentioned)

  • What is best mac mini for easy video editing? Late 2012 quad-core or late 2014 double core?

    Hi!
I want to buy Mac mini and don't know which one is best for me. Please don't tell me to buy anything else, because it is my choise. I only need to know what is better:
Upgradable late 2012 version with quad core i7, 2.3GHz, 8gb of RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000
    or
Non-upgradable late 2014 version with dual core i5, 2.6 GHz, 8 gb of RAM and Iris graphic card.
I do short videos with a few effects, transactions, fades, titles, sometimes add CC. So which Mac mini do you recommend, guys?

as a windows/premiere user i can only speak to the hardware. 8gb ram in either should be fine for short & simple projects. the i7 is alot better, however the hd graphics 4000 is not as good as the iris and may require running the mercury engine as software only. this means no using the video card to help premiere run faster. anything outside of premiere using the cpu for day to day tasks would also appreciate the i7.  depending on the model of the iris graphics, it may be a couple times faster than the hd 4000 and therefore might work in premiere. according to adobe it lists the Intel Iris Graphics 5100 and 5200 as working  System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro  if you get into other adobe apps, the graphics wont matter as much and the i7 will run faster.  it is faster video vs faster cpu, which to pick...

  • Problem waking mac mini

I have BT mouse and keyboard.
I set my Mac Mini to sleep after 1 hour.
When it sleeps I can't get it back up...I end up having to use the power button to reboot.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

I have the same problem on my G5 mini, and keyboard and mouse are USB. System goes to sleep and doesn't wake up on mouse movement or keyboard activity. If I pulse the power switch, the system "wakes up" but the mouse is frozen and I have to do a hard reboot. Mouse is plugged into my Apple HD display, whch is amongst other things, plugged into a USB port on the mini itself.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • What monitor for mac mini?

I just ordered mac mini with I7 processor, flash drive and 8 gig memory.  Want to watch streaming movies and edit photos.  Prefer 24" monitor, suggestions?

Shop around, most any modern LG, Samsung, AOC, Acer, Dell, HP, etc. with HDMI and/or DVI inputs will work with a Mac Mini.
Additionally you can use dual monitors, an HDMI or DVI monitor on the HDMI output (DVI using the supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter) and second HDMI, DVI or VGA monitor on the Mac Mini's Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort using the corresponding Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, DVI or VGA Adapter.

  • Waking Mac Mini has a Network Name Clash

    Hi,
I have a new Mac Mini running lion, connected to a Time Capsule.  The mac mini has a unique name on the network.
Each time, the mini wakes from sleep, a message is displayed saying the name is already in use and adds a (2) to the name.
This appears to only happen in Lion.
    Any ideas to resolve ?
    Thanks,
    Ben

Same problem here, but with a 2007 iMac running Lion.  Never saw this problem on any previous Mac or version of Mac OS.  In fact, the first time this happened was just tonight, and I've been running Lion since it was a DP.

  • What does the new mac mini really look like? raised or not?

looking at the images on the mac mini page http://www.apple.com/macmini/ it clearly shows the mini with it's front edge resting on the ground in all the images from the front. the reflections touch. but when you follow the 'Design' link it shows that the new mini is resting on a raised foot, so it floats.
i'm pretty sure the floating version is the real version, but why the inconsistency?

it's not an optical illusion. it's just wrong in the images. i agree with the people who made the illustrations, it looks better when it's flat on the ground and not floating.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/16/mac-mini-mid-2010-teardown-photos/
that gives you a better idea of what the new mac mini looks like from the front in a similar angle to the images on apples site. notice the very large gap between the reflection and the front face of the mini. also notice the large black shadow caused by the mini being raised up on the black circular foot on it's base. There isn't an angle that you you can move the camera to that would eliminate the shadow or distance between the reflection and the case and still see the front face as you do in the images.
it's just an odd inconsistency that misrepresents what the final product looks like.

In order to be compatible with iPad, iPhone or iPod devices running iOS5 and iCloud, your Mac Mini has to be running Lion. In order to run Lion it must have a Core 2 Duo processor.

  • How To Set Up Mountain Lion Server/Point DNS to Mac Mini Server

Hello, First of all I have no experience with setting up servers whatsoever. Below is what I have
    - Mac Mini with Mountain Lion Server
    - Time Capsule as my router
    - Comcast as my service provider
My goal is to set up my MacMini as a sharepoint for files and other data with my other partners.
    - I have purchased a domaine name from NetworkSolutions. Does this mean that they are my DNS hosting as well? Not really sure. My biggest question is how to point my DNS to my mac mini server correctly.
    1. How do you point the DNS to my mac mini server.
    2. I've read somewhere to use the IP address from my mac mini server. The only IP address I see is from my Time Capsule (router). I know what my public IP adress is but I am not sure if that's the one to use. I think once I figure this DNS thing I can figure out the rest.
Thanks - Need lots of help.

Here's a detailed write-up on setting up internal (private) DNS on OS X Server, and no, you're probably not going to be setting up external DNS on your servers.  Your public DNS service will be hosted on and served from the Network Solutions DNS servers.

  • How can i share folders at Mac mini late 2009 with Apple Tv 3?

I'm using Mac mini 2009 and I can't share any folder with Apple tv 3...anyone managed to get a way to do so, so far?

I have a WLAN at home conneting Mac mini (late 2009), PS3 slim and xbox 360 in the living room and I would love to share whats on the Mac mini with AT3 in the guest room upstairs, physically it wont be possible to control both screens at the same times. The files I have are on external HD connected via firewire + USB to Mac mini and they are a mix of avi, mp4, mpeg etc. I'm talking about 3 TB of movies and series (its still legal here in Dubai to download ;-)). starting to convert such amount of files its not an option. AirParrot is a good option when I have media stored on my MacBook pro and would like to play it no AT3 but I used Beamer it works great for such function.
    any ideas folks ?
