What's with these iTunes charges?

After seeing the first charges from iTunes on my Chase credit card bill, I noticed many inconsistencies. Even though the songs cost 0.99 and 1.29, with albums costing more, I have charges ranging from 0.31 to 13.42. I understand that there are probably taxes and hidden fees I should have figured out before, right? I have figured out that they (or Chase) combine(s) purchases on the bill, but that said, it still doesn't add up. Does anyone else have these problems?

Yes, in most states, the iTunes Store collects sales tax at the percentage specified by the state.
To validate the charges, look at your Purchase History in iTunes.  (You can get there by Store > View My Account, and follow through.)  The "Total Price" of each purchase is listed there, with sales tax included.  Each purchase should match an item on  your credit card.
If you had a credit balance in  your account (e.g. from a gift card), iTunes will take that first before going against your credit card.

I have a U.S. iTunes account that is attached to a U.S. billing address and credit card.  I live in Mexico and keep getting gift cards from friends for iTunes but I cannot use them.  Do I need to open another iTunes account in Mexico to get access to these gift cards?  What is the alternative?

  • SEVERE Problems with Unauthorized iTunes Charges

Hi, I am getting bombarded with charges from iTunes for apps and music for my iPad that I didn't purchase. 4 charges today for nearly $200 and counting. These flow through PayPal to my credit card; not good. Worse yet, there doesn't seem to be any way in iTunes to dispute these charges or even tell them they have a problem. What do I do? Thanks!

I had the same problem last week - woke up to a charge of 40 and change, and another one of 50 even - all applications and over half of them in Japanese.
I called PayPal and they immediately put it into dispute, but they did have to take my money out of my account first before they could "refund" it.
I would change your account information and take your credit card off your account - use a gift card for now for purchases.
PayPal told me when I called that they've been having a LOT of problems with this - until Apple steps up their security I'm not going to rely on them using my payment information.
Sorry this happened to you - hope this helps a little bit

  • What's with these appended numbers in front or back of titles?

What about those appended numbers (01 or 01-09 or whatever) in front of song titles or at the end so iTunes doesn't find these as duplicates? You can't even sort them because it reads those numbers as titles. I didn't put them there. If they are dupes why didn't iTunes recognize them as such and ask me if I wanted to keep or discard? All I am trying to do is consolidate all my music into ONE "music" file on my HD. It adds them from the "add to library" option but leaves these numbers on the titles so I can't sort. I also can't sort the "!" marks, music which actually exists but for some reason I have to find them manually. Now If I could really sort these "!"'s I could put them into an untitled folder on my desktop and do a better search instead of going through thousands of titles for hours if not days.
ITunes needs a "tune-up" ASAP! Please spend the money you saved in off-shore tax shelters to update and really do some innovative iTunes upgrades.

Have a look at this thread especially Limnos's post.

I think that you are encountering problems with "!" Because you are not letting iTunes manage your library.

  • What's with These Ghost Files?

On several occasions I have downloaded podcasts and noticed that they are grayed out and unchecked in my podcast directory. Any attempt to move these files to my iPod were unsuccessful. I could drag the file to my iPod, but instead of displaying a +1, is would just slide back to it's original position.
In the latest incarnation of the problem, I closed and reopened iTunes and the podcast in question was now checked and no longer grayed out. But I could still not drag it to my iPod nor could I play it within iTunes. If I "Get Info" it shows the size and location of the file within iTunes. If I go to the file using Finder, I can play it, but I can neither play it nor drag it in iTunes. What is going on here?

  • What's with the ILD charge?

I have found countless links about this ILD company slipping charges on to Verizon phone bills without people actually asking for this service (whatever it is).  Their website makes it look like a merchant type service while the charge on my bill eludes to a "Fone Right Voicemail Mthly Fee".  This is a joke!  Why would Verizon allow such a thing to take place is beyond me.  Apparently, ILD does have legitimate contracts with the telephone companies to allow their services but sticking them on there through tricky backdoor means should never been allowed by Verizon.  Of course, maybe they don't care about losing a customer who has to deal with this but I can't imagine them losing customers who pay well over a $1,000 a year in services simply to allow this company to start charging ($14.95) at will for unnecessary, unasked for services.
Please tell me there is hope to have this removed without having to drop my services altogether and switch to a cable provider.
Has anyone out there had this similar issue and any help from Verizon or is it time to switch away from a company that allows this to happen?
    UpsetConsumer

    PC7812,
I couldn't agree with you more about your sentiments/statements.  It's crazy to see this stuff take place when it should be obvious that protective mechanisms should be in place for the consumer.  I guess we're witnesses to the shaddy background deals that take place so that the big guy can make an extra buck.
Well, I have some good news to my initial post.
I contacted ILD services (who deny any immediate responsibility for the service being assigned to me) they kindly forwarded my email to Fone Right.
I contacted Fone Right and they have kindly agreed to refund two months of this service but it will take several billing months to do so.  I will follow up if this actually occurs.  Their reasons for why this charge occurred were erroneous and they could not substantiate who or why the service was assigned to a phone that already had this service.  The person they referred to doesn't live in my home and I have never heard of them.
Moreover, I have addressed the real issue for my inconvience.  I terminated my service with Verizon and have switched to Comcast triple for ALL of my services.  I now have an internet connection speed that approaches 20Mps and have High Def TV to boot and all for less than what I would have paid with Verizon.  Comcast has never allowed such "Add on charges" for other services not related to comcast.
Cheerfully, UpsetConsumer  (not so upset anymore)

  • Apple, what's with these garbage fans?

    Dear Apple,
Let me say, i love your products. My macbook is great, fast, OS X is really smooth and crisp, and the ease of use and various features of the mac beat windows by a mile.
With that said, i have to ask one thing:
Why are the fans equipped with the Macbooks so absurdly fragile?
This is now the 3rd time that i have had to send in my computer to get my fans fixed. I have a warranty, but let me just say this is beyond ridiculous.
If the fans are running and somebody picks up the computer and moves it around slightly, the bearings come loose and the fans completely fail. I have to send the computer in to service(i have a warranty at best buy) and it takes about 2 weeks to get the computer back.
The first time i was moving the computer around my room and the fans made a clipping noise. Eventually they stopped working, my computer started overheating and i had to send it in.
The second time my friend picked up the laptop as it was going to sleep(it wasnt fully asleep yet, so the fans where still running) and put the computer to his side. The fans broke and i had to send it in.
The third time(right now) my sister decided to use it. She did basically the same thing as my friend:
She closed the computer lid as the funs where running full speed. Assuming the computer was off(or asleep), she picked it up and held it sideways as she walked to her room. Upon opening it the fans started making a grinding noise.
Now i am stuck here with fans that are completely busted, AGAIN. The third freaking time.
Why? Because the people around me decided to pick up my computer and move it somewhere.
    That, Apple, is beyond reasonable.
If i have to send in my computer to best buy a 3rd time, i might be forced to get a new computer.
Which is fine, except that means i would also have to buy a new warranty for the new computer. And when picking up a laptop and moving it around might cause it to break, having a warranty is pretty necessary.
Im really interested to know why this is happening and what you plan to do about it, or i might not be buying apple products in the future.

Sideways? Ever hear of gravity? Ever hear of innertia? Time to educate anyone handling your computer the laws of physics.
With friends like these, who needs enemies? Ask your friend to pay for your inconvenience. Seriously, the friend should own up to their own rough handling of your computer. Apple has no control over your friend's treatment of their computers.
This is a user to user board. That is clearly stated on the Terms of Use on the right. Your odds of getting Apple to reply here are close to nil. http://www.apple.com/feedback offers a place to give Apple feedback but not necessarily get a reply. If you want a real reply from Apple, call their AppleCare phone numbers:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
And ask for a case number.
As others have stated, you are part at mercy to the program's restrictions, part at mercy to the Best Buy policies.
I'm sorry, but you can't expect a warranty to cover mistreatment by end users. The cost of the warranty would go through the roof. It clearly states only manufacturer defects would be covered. And you can't expect a manufacturer to find a way to violate the laws of physics. Innertial dampers are science fiction still. Maybe one day, but not today.
    Good luck!

  • What's with my Itunes music becoming Quicktime icons once converted to my BB?

I've transferred several songs from Itunes via Media Manager and Itunes.  They converted to my media card.  However, certain songs convert to Quicktime formats.  Why is this?
I cannot see what the difference is.  I've thought it was music purchased on Itunes vs. cd music uploaded to Itunes, but I have 3 songs that were purchased on Itunes that transferred without problems.
    What's the deal?
Thanks for your assistance.  I'm boggled.

  • What is with these DAT files ?

Do I have any use for them at all. Can I just blow them all away, etc

Your profile doesn't state what kind of computer or operating system you have (also good information for troubleshooting purposes). With a Mac, until I got a better answer, I'd try putting one of the files in the trash (but DON'T empty it) and see if the video still works. If it does, you could probably ditch the file. However, I'm inclined to be a bit reckless.
A quick Google search seems to indicate that DAT is one of the video formats that the Nano supports. You might want to do a more detailed search on the file format.

  • Export to WORD - what's with these boxes around the text?

    Post Author: Emily
    CA Forum: Exporting
I am new to CR.  I am using version 10.0.0.533  We use CR with ClearQuest for problem reporting and other data collection.
Rational (ClearQuest Vendor) tells me it's a CR X problem.
I use a CR report exported to MS WORD as a template for taking meeting minutes.  With our old CR version, the ClearQuest export was great and I was able to add text into the report.  With CR X, the report in MS WORD comes out in text boxes and editting this output is not pretty.   I do not want the boxes, I just want free flowing text as if I had written a WORD doc so I can edit it easily during the meetings.  I have tried export to text, copy, paste but I loose all of the formatting.  I have tried HTML and then copy, paste, but this is even worse than the text output.  RTF also has the text in boxes.
Someone out there MUST have run into this problem also.  Help me...

  • What up with my itunes

Hey guys.... Hopefully someone can help.... my itunes is playing up been for awhile now..... The thing is when I open itunes all I get is a blank screen or the page opens for a sec and then goes blank meaning I cant look up songs or anything which is driving me insane..... can anyone help me get itunes to work again... I havent done anything to the file or made any changes to it so it is strange that is stopped working... thanks

    PROBLEM SOLVED!
If you have the rows set to 5 or less, you get borders because the artwork file size is too small to correctly fill the screen, and iTunes will not expand the images. If you set the rows to 6 or more, this is not a problem.
I thought I had used 5 rows before, so that's where I had it set this time. Tried 4 rows too, but didn't try 6 until I called Apple Support.
