What's wrong with Mac G5 1.8 Machine?
I've searched the net, I've searched the forum with the whole fan noise issues and seen all possible solutions but none has worked for me.
I bought a used mac a while ago and now that I bought some PNY memory (2) 512MB chips that are designed specifically for my model and bought a Seagate 250MB SATA Drive for my second drive. Everything works fine, the system profiler detects everything.
However, everytime I install something or try to use a program the fans start spinning crazy and then it goes into sleep mode. I have to hit the ESC button a few times so the machine can wake back up.
I followed the suggestions on the net and on the forums about the energy saver and sliding the knobs to never. I put the Processor Performance to Highest. Everything else unchecked.
I downloaded that Temperature Monitor program from the Bresink site and what it tells me is the following:
CPU Temperature: 70.8C
Drive Bay: 25.5C
Smart Disk Maxtor: 47.0C
Smart Disk ST: 42.0C
I checked the Console under the system log for everytime this machine shuts off and it states:
IOSMUPwrController:: OverTemp Notification
Power Management received emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep.
I did a search on the forums and google/yahoo for IOSMUPwrController and nothing appears for that keyword.
I took out the new PNY memory and it did the same thing so it's not my memory.
All I have in the G5 is a new Geethree Stealth Port I just put in for my Midi Timepiece.
I also put in from my previous G4 Quicksilver machine my Sonnet Area Extreme PCI Wireless network card.
Any other suggestions? I did that reset thing I had to do in terminal mode and that didn't do anything either.
I'm wondering if I have to replace the fans on the power supply because that noise reminds me of bad fans on a PC.
Saddest thing is that my PC is so 5 times quieter than my G5. Sad!
I don't have applecare or warrenty.
This is a G5 single processor 1.8Ghz the one that I can only max the memory to 4 GIGS not 8 GIGS. I think they state it's a late 2004 model.
I give up, I'm going to take a bat to this machine. I've had it. I have never seen a computer ever do this before not even a windows machine when it's fans are are about to expire.
Anyhow here's the latest logs from system console.

What's wrong with Mac Mini Server's quality ?
Hi,
I am an owner of the Unibody Mac Mini Server 2010 for my business server.
When i bought it after two days use the HD started to fail. One with bad blocks and the other one with I/O errors. OSX froze many times. Did many tests and it showed bad blocks on one HD the second just failed some times.
The HD that are included are HTS725050A9A362.
I took the Mini to an Authorized Repair place. They replaced one HD. Gave it back to me. I then realized that they only replaced one HD. Took it back again and then they replaced the second one as well. All fine took it back home installed everything again.
I have now use it for 3 months. Couple of weeks ago i woke up to a message box saying that the Mini has beed shutdown by some error. Could not find out what that error was but things looked to be running ok so i left it like that.
Today i woke up to a dead mac mini. It would not boot. It was sitting with the spinning weel so i made a reset of the RAM or whatever it's called you know Command + P + R. That made it go a little bit further. It now stopped with the Folder icon blinking meaning it could not find a boot disk. Hmmmm i thought. This can only be a disk error. Tried to boot with DVD and do repair but it did not work out.
To rescue my data from the second disk i booted in target mode and used my iMac to copy stuff over. Let me tell you that, that was not easy. Target mode worked like ****, maybe because of the first disk which was damaged dunno. When at last i opened the folder with my stuff the copy speed was ok. Funny enough i also managed to copy data from the disk that could not boot in target mode but i can't boot it so the disk is not really dead.
Now my problem is this. What to do ? I have warranty but i have a feeling that theese HD are not reliable so if Apple repairs the Mini again they will replace with the same HD which i am not interested in. I am willing to invest in 2 new HD myself which are not the same brand but i don't want to void the warranty and open the box.
I should add that i have 2 x 4gb memory inserted which is not Apple. I bought exactly what Apple recommend on their web page (CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 1066MHz model. CM3X4GSD1066 G). I do not think this has anything to do with the problems i see but i thought I'll mention it.
I can also mention that after first time the HD died i kept an eye on the temperatures and i had HD temperatures around 35C. The CPU was around 48-50C and the server was idling at 80-85%.
What can you recommend me i do ? Maybe all the problems that i have are just ****** quality by Apple. Maybe they squeezed the internal components to close and they run into these problems. I just don't know what i should do. It's not like that this is a computer...it's a server and MUST run continuously.
donnibAre you certain the RAM is not causing this issue?
Was the original (2Gb-4Gb) RAM fitted when the 1st issue appeared?
Apple does not offer the current Mac mini + server with 8Gb RAM. It is likely that non OEM RAM can cause corrupted data on the HDD(s).
Is it not possible to fit the original RAM, format/reinstall the HDD and test the Mac mini the way it was shipped?.
The current Mac mini is positioned as a home or small business server plus there is no hardware reporting as found in an X-Serve. The HDD(s) used are as reliable as one would expect from a portable drive. Like the previous Mac mini's, the current models are reliable with few known issues until you replace parts that Apple may not have used in testing.
Since the arrival of the late 2009 mini, Apple uses sensors on the original HDD(s) which cause problems (either no boot or loud fan noise) if a different brand or model is fitted. The HDD needs to be compatible with the sensor(s). The 2010 Mac mini has taken it even further in that respect covering each drive with Mylar wrapping as well as the sensor. Apple really does not want users to swap parts out. -
What is wrong with my 2 month old Mac book pro retina?
I bought a new 13 inch Mac book pro Retina at the end of May 2013. I have been to the apple store and called apple care several times. Now things are very bad. It would crash and give me a white screen every so often but over the last week things have gotten very bad. It will crash with the white screen, browsers and applications all close unexpectedly - it started with firefox then safari, then mail then face book, then adobe and finally iphoto and picassa. I did send in the reports. Also if I had a picture in i-photo my picassa program is set up to grab all pictures - recently any pictures that have been grabbed it says the files are corrupted. I keep having trouble with the air port utility in that it can't find the wireless network and or the time capsuel even though it can be wireless or plugged in by ethernet. I called apple care and got this very nice tech guy and he tried many different fixes and said he thought the hard drive would need to be replaced so got an appointment to take my computer in. They ran two tests and said everything is fine with the computer it must be the software. So now I'm supposed to get apple care to help me try and save all my data on flash drives! Can't back it up on time capsuel cause he said it would just back up the problem. So this seems overwhelming and I'm so upset. Well, then I thought about it and my old mac book in which all the data and software was transferred from hasn't been erased as I was having so many issues I hadn't done that yet. So my question is if it was the software, wouldn't it be making my older mac book do the same thing? What is wrong with my New Computer? As of tonight, I can't even open anything it gives a quick flash of trying to open and closes so the computer is totally useless - so no idea how to get the data off that is most recent. Apple says they cannot help cause it is a software program but now I have a 2 month old computer whish is useless. Any thoughts?
Call Apple and make a appointment.
You have 3 months of care and up to 3 years with paid AppleCare, let them handle it and bring everything in.
Good Luck -

My Mac is stuck on grey screen what's wrong with it and am I going to lose everything
Hopefully you have a backup, but...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward. -

What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
Hi,
I'm with Mac since years. I was a PC User once and spent hours with all kinds of network troubles. What convinced me with Mac right in the beginning was easy networking: It just worked!
But since Leopard things got worse: I have several MBP's, iMacs, Airport Extreme's and Airport Express's at different places which I installed, and I face the same problems at EVERY place:
- I can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility, ...
- Sometimes only two Macs are allowed to connect to one AExtreme
- Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
- After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
- Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
- connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Now I know about networking, about configuration, I've done this for years. Whatever I do, problems disappear and appear again, at different times, at different places with different hardware.
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that. What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
on my network and many i have setup there have been no problems with leopard. However there are always teething problems with new operating systems. Thankfully with leopard only a tiny percentage of users experience technical difficulties.
can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility,
is it set to use WPA/WPA2
Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
sometimes my macbook pro takes a while to show up any networks if there are lots in the area this is because it is scanning them all.
After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
What kind of router are you using? What happens if you powercycle the router?
# Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
# connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Have you tried resetting your AE to default. reinstalling its firmware or checking for a firmware update?
Have you tried changing hte wireless channel your networ is broadcasting on?
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.
Did you upgrade install your leopard installation or did you do clean (erase) installations?
Have you tried created new network locations? -
What's Wrong with My Computer?
I have a G5 desktop computer, I believe it's referred to as a "Power Mac." My mom purchased it some years ago, I think in late 2005 shortly after this particular model was on the market.
Info is:
Version 10.5.8
Processor 4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
Memory 4.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive 240 GB (127 GB unused/available)
My mother wasn't using this computer for many years, and my 13" Macbook was giving me trouble, so she gave this one to me. It's all been great (she maxed out the memory and hard drive space when she bought it, even though it is outdated and insignificant compared to current models), except for one little thing... Browsing the internet is usually fine when it's only one window, but not always. However, it is almost a guarantee that while trying to operate multiple windows and trying to play a video, Safari will crash. And not just once in awhile. I'm talking about on a daily basis. During regular offline computer use, like Photoshop or iTunes, the computer will sometimes grey over (as if someone put a fairly thick grey film over the entire screen), and tell me I have to restart the computer. So what's wrong with it? I presume it is a physical issue (failing memory, mother board, etc.), but what?Your computer is not remotely "maxed out" with RAM.
You're describing a G5 Quad like mine (though mine was built in June of 2006), and maxed out means having 16 GB of RAM installed, like mine has.
The Frolick wrote:

That's called a Kernel Panic, and, yes, it is most often caused by hardware problems, such as bad RAM or mismatched RAM. I can't imagine how you get to 4.5 GB of RAM without exponentially increasing the risk of mismatched RAM.
RAM has to be installed in matched pairs, starting from the center slots and spreading outward: 4*3*2*1*1*2*3*4
On the other hand, my own personal experience has led me to conclude that Safari is a piece of cr@p. It causes problems just being active in the background, causing other applications to fail.
Check your RAM carefully, starting with just one pair of matched RAM sticks in the two center slots, then adding one pair at a time. Check your hard disk with Apple's Disk Utility.
The kernel panics can be caused by a damaged directory too, so if you own Disk Warrior, run it. If you don't own DiskWarrior, at least Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility and use Verify Disk/Repair Disk with it.
I'd also recommend downloading and installing Applejack and run it according to the instructions.
Good luck.

What's wrong with my Final Cut Pro 7.03?
What's wrong with my Final Cut Pro 7.03?
I have just started up a new project.
Every time I try to ad a clip in top of each other a "general error" shows up. The sequence viewer turned red and it displays that I have to close and reopen the window to restore.
The only "new thing" I do - is the use/brand of camera.
Now I use the canon D5 mark 3 for my project (before D5 mark 2)
What's wrong??? Do I need to update my Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 And how do I do this???
Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.6.8)Did you use Log & Import? Or did you at least convert the D5 files before importing? FCP doesn't work with those files natively.

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse. I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze. When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally. Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine. But there are blue stripes on my screen. The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes. I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer. If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed. I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this? Is it the firmware or what? I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
Please help... Thanks!I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

So I am not sure what is going on?
Anyone have similar situation?
what did u do to get Safari working again for you?
thanksIf you're running 19.7.4, then you're installation is hosed. Safari 5.1.7 is what ships with that version. If you failed to save the ill-designed installer, then you'll have to waste resources installing again (necessitates DLing the entire 3.6+ GB monstrosity).

What is wrong with my Macbook Pro? (distorted screen, beeping, slow)
I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro (13-inch) that I got from Best Buy. It worked perfectly fine for a year, but then went crazy.
First, it started shutting down here and there, and icons bounced a lot in the dock. Then, one day, I googled something and it froze, then flashed a strip of multicolored barcode-like lines. So, I shut it down and it overheated then began to beep 3 times and flash a light.
I brought it in and they just wiped the hard drive. Then, it happened again while I was watching a video only a short time later. I was going to re-seat the RAM myself but the inside of the computer looked all messed up. I took it in and they gave me a new LCD but it has a dead pixel now. It worked fine for 1 month after that.
Then, I was using the laptop on my bed and it shut off randomly a couple of times while I was on Facebook and started beeping. I rebooted it and tried to fix it but it happened again the next day. I brought it back to Best Buy and they said it was hot and sold me a $20 cooling pad.
That worked for a few days, then I was watching TV online and it happened again. I brought it back to Best Buy and they replaced the RAM. Now, I was watching something online and it happened yet again. I was able to reboot and it worked okay now for a couple of hours but it did freeze again and I had to shut it down.
Everytime I go to Best Buy, they tell me "If we have this issue 1 more time, we will replace your computer." But, then, they say the same thing every time and that it's their policy. I have paid for Office now and only have 1 download left. Also, this is ridiculous because I'm a student and I've had my Mac gone for 2 weeks at a time at least 3 or 4 times. When this happens, I get stuck using my iPad and can't use flash so I've spent tons of money of apps for flash and other things to make my iPad functional.
Can somebody just tell me what's wrong with it? It "passes the hardware test" every time and the Geek Squad keeps asking me stupid questions like "Did you check your internet connection and reset your modem?" When I asked them the first time to do a PRAM test, they didn't know what that was and asked me to go on iTunes or clear my cache or something like that.
I have had a bad experience with them altogether. I got my Macbook for $500 because I had a PC before that I paid $700 for and it eventually broke. They were unable to repair that one because the hard drive had failed, although they had previously been convinced that I needed to uninstall my Norton to fix that problem.
Sorry if I'm ranting, but my Macbook is like a child to me (not to sound weird) and I'm sick of this problem. It's working fine at the moment but I know this will happen again randomly like always. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select the most recent panic log under "System Diagnostic Reports." Post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID” and "Kernel UUID," two long strings of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report. Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items. -
I need help figuring out what is wrong with my Macbook Pro
I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro with OS X Mavericks on it and for the past few weeks it has running VERY SLOW! I have no idea what is wrong with it, i have read other discussion forums trying to figure it out on my own. So far i have had no luck in fixing the slowness. When i open applications the icon will bounce in dock forever before opening and then my computer will freeze with the little rainbow wheel circling and circling for a few minutes... and if i try to browse websites it take forever for them to load or youtube will just stop working for me. Everything i do, no matter what i click, the rainbow wheel will pop up! The only thing i can think of messing it up was a friend of mine plugging in a flash drive a few weeks ago to take some videos and imovie to put on his Macbook Pro, he has said his laptop has been running fine though... so idk if that was the problem. Anyways, could someone please help me try something? Thank you!!

What is wrong with my Macbook?
I dropped my macbook (2007 model) and the screen is so cracked that I can not see anything. I got a mini-dvi - vga cord and plugged it into a monitor, but when i turn it on, it just goes to the mac background, and will not show the login screen. What is wrong with it?
it's putting the monitor as second display, so the login screen (i'm guessing) is only displaying on the first—main—screen, the the one that is cracked.
restart the macbook and don't touch anything. when the background appears on the secondary monitor, you know the login screen must be up on the first monitor. so type in your username, hit TAB once, then your password.
you should be able to log in now. then follow these instructions:
(bare in mind i'm running 10.6.8)
1) press ALT+F2 to open up displays in system preferences.
2) you should be able to see a dialog open up in the secondary monitor
3) if this has a "Gather Windows" button, press it
4) if step 3) works, you should be able to switch around the main displays, or turn on mirror mode, or whatever -
What is wrong with my log in display screen?
Hey There guys,
This problem started occurring right after i updated to Yosemite, which was quite a while back. Every time I turn on my computer and I get to the log in screen where I put my password, half the screen is normal and the other half is black with green lines running through it(this was the latest) other times it is white rectangles with little black ones running through them. Im not sure what is wrong with it, I never dropped my mac or anything.
I have attached an image.Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.
