What's Your Gaming Profile?

There are plenty of attempts to subdivide gamers into smaller, more descriptive groups—"hardcore," "casual," "retro," and the like—but these terms all rely on imprecise definitions and self-assessments. These groupings are often more about declaring an affiliation than about identifying specific types of games someone likes.
The folks atQuantic Foundryseem to have developed a more detailed way of breaking down different gaming subgroups. The "game behavior analytics" consultancy hasdeveloped a five-minute online quizintended to narrow down a person's gaming tastes to a "gamer motivation profile." Participants are rated on a percentile basis along six different axes identifying what game design elements they find interesting:Action:"Gamers with high Action scores are aggressive and like to jump in the fray and be surrounded by dramatic...

WiFi signals get stronger the closer the machine is to the router and the less interference/blocking of the signal like via walls with metal in them or of thick concrete.
Since the signal emanates outwards in a sphere, your supposed to place the wireless router in a central location in the building so it covers all areas.
The power of the router also has a affect, if your router is old or something not that powerful like a Airport Express, it doesn't have the ability to filter out other signals or enough punch to get through walls etc. or cover a large area as effectively.
If you buy/have a powerful router of newer make and have issues where there is metal in the walls or thick concrete, then you can buy something like OpenMesh and by using Ethernet cables from the back of the router, extend the WiFi signal into other rooms and areas past the blockage.

• I keep getting a "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" message and firefox does not open. WHat is wrong and how do I fix?

I uninstalled Firefox from my computer, then I reinstalled it and tried to run it, but this message appeared, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" and Firefox does not open at all.

hello davidrusso71, press windows-key+R on your computer and open ''%appdata%\Mozilla\'' - an explorer window should come up, in there rename the folder labelled "Firefox" to something like oldFirefox. on the next start of firefox this should lead to a new profile being created...
you might want to import some of your old data into the new profile afterwards: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]

Did you delete the profiles.ini file?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

*Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/

• Get your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible after install. Profile.ini isnt installed at all. Forums no help.

I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my windows XP Pro 32 bit box 3 times and uninstalled 3 times to fix the message that the Profile is missing and your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I am admin on the box and I can install the download and remove it all day long but I can't get the profile.ini to be created. I've looked at all the forums and they don't address the missing profile at all or that it never gets created. I really need this to work as IE won't work for me.

I don't know who you emailed, given that Mozilla doesn't provide tech support via e-mail. If you're referring to the notification e-mails from this forum, they only serve to let you know a reply has been posted. You need to click the “See the comment” link in the message to reply.

If there was anyway to import the profile.ini I would.
You could manually create the folders and the ''profiles.ini'' file, but without solving the underlying problem, you're likely just run into some other issue instead. If you insist on going about it this way, this is what you'd do:
1. Click the '''Start''' button on the taskbar and choose '''Run'''.
2. In the box that opens, type ''%AppData%'' and press Enter.
3. In the folder that opens, create a new folder called ''Mozilla''
4. Open the Mozilla folder and inside it create a new folder called ''Firefox''
5. Start Notepad, paste the following as its contents, then save the file as ''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini''

<nowiki>[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/2dzy4k7u.default
Default=1</nowiki>

6. Inside the Firefox folder, create a new folder called ''Profiles''
7. Inside the Profiles folder, create a new folder called ''2dzy4k7u.default''

When launching Firefox, it will then attempt to populate the blank profile folder with data files (bookmarks, history, cookies, and so on). If you still have the permissions issue, I expect it will fail to do so.

Hi Bernard, normally, when doing a Reset, Firefox moves your old profile folder to the desktop (in a folder named Old Firefox Data), creates a new profile folder incorporating some of the data from your old profile, and updates a configuration file with the new profile folder name. It sounds as though this broke down somewhere along the way. Let's see whether it was that third step.
In order to ease the next few steps, please make sure that you can view hidden files and folders. This article has the steps:
* Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx
* Newer Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
To open your Firefox data folder, you can type or paste the following into either the Start menu Run box, Search box, or into the address bar of a Windows Explorer/My Computer window:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
In the folder that loads, you should see a Profiles folder and a file named profiles.ini (it's a text file you can edit with Notepad).
Click into the Profiles folder to see whether you can find a semi-randomly-named folder. If you find it, click into it to confirm that it contains some files and isn't empty. If there is stuff there, let's work with it. Up in the address bar of Windows Explorer, select and copy the semi-random name of the folder, or you can make a note of it somewhere.
Return back up to the Firefox folder. Right-click>Edit the profiles.ini file and it should open in Notepad. You should see something like the following:
[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1
[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/'''asdf1234.default'''
Default=1
The part of Path after Profiles/ needs to match the name of the folder you copied or noted earlier. Go ahead and fix it and save the file.
Then try to start Firefox again. Any luck?
If the existing profile (post-Reset) is missing completely, or is missing important data, we can grab one of the earlier profile folders from the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. For the steps to do that, please see this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025708#answer-641099

• Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible... Help!?

One moment I was able to use Firefox just fine and the next, I'm getting a pop up message:
Title: Missing Profile:
Message: Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible.
I cannot open firefox at all and I'm at a loss of what to do. I can't even troubleshoot firefox because firefox is trying to open but it can't.
What I believe happened was that firefox was in the middle of updating/trying to open in safe mode and somehow got interrupted. I have been looking around online trying to find a solution and so far I've been coming up short and any help would be appreciated!
I have Windows 7.
Thanks!

Thanks for reply.. I did look at that page. the message I received is not listed there.
Oh! and I tried to start Foxfire in the safe mode - got the same message.

A likely cause is a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
