What Satellite P300 do I have exactly?

Hi,
I have a Satelite P300. I'm a little confused as I see here others talking about their P300's.
I see reference to P300-1G5, P300-19P, P300-1GC, P300-23M.
My Satellite, when I look underneath only says 'Satelite P300' , beneath that it says pspcca-05Yy01Y
How do I determine exactly which one I've got?
It appears that there are many flavors.
Mario

Thanks Jimi & Raver.
It then appears it's a 'P' Series.
If it's a choice between the warranty and X{P then I choose XP.
I just bought this notebook and of-course it's a Vista Machine. Like many, I'm not happy with Vista so I'm considering
going to XP, therefore I need get all the XP drivers.
I got the below link from another post here to maybe get drivers.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
I don't know anywhere else to look. Anyway I filled in the info and it doesn't have my model in the 'Short Model N0.' list (PSPCCA).
I assume then that perhaps there are no XP drivers available, would I be correct?
Any advice you may have would be appreciated.
Mario
Ps. Yes, Australia.

  • Where are the BIOS update release notes - Satellite P300-Q01

I have a Satellite P300 Q01 - there have been two BIOS updates since I bought it W360 and W390.
Where can I find the release notes detailing what is fixed/changed in each release?
    Thanks

Unfortunately you will not be able to find them. :(
I don't understand why but this info is not published.

  • What lightscribe CD/DVD drives are compatible with Satellite P300

    Very fast.
What optical lightscribe drives i can mount in my Toshiba Satellite P300.
At now i have pioneer dvr-kd08 but i wont lightscribe.

This is not that easy to say as compatibility depends on the slave/master settings and therefore you would need to ask an ASP.
Maybe check some lightscribe ODDs and ask the guys from ASP.
But honestly, would you really want to waste your money on this feature? I know, those discs look pretty nice when used ligthscribe on it, but is it worth it?
I have one in my other notebook but I have only used it once.
And you will need special blank CDs/DVDs with this surface to use lightscribe feature.

  • What device do I have, exactly?

I had this linksys router for at least a couple of years. I cannot remember exactly when I bought it, but I bought it new from Best Buy.
I just noticed something weird today...
The bottom of the device claims that it is a WRT54G ver 2.
The configuration screens showed that it was running firmware as WRT54GL. Earlier today it was running firmware version 4.30.12.
I was having a problem with Internet access (which turned out to be a cable company issue in the end) and so I decided to check for the latest firmware while I was at it...
So, I try to find a the firmware for a WRT54Gv2. No problem,, except that the linksys download finder is telling me I need version 4.21.1 - e.g. an OLDER version?
    Huh?
So, I think, maybe I've been running the wrong firmware all of this time... and I try the 4.21.1 which *should* match with the writing on the bottom of the device.
    *BRICK*
I was able to get a recognizable config screen after this firmware update, but it was unreadable and unusable.
So, I tried several things to fix it.
In the end here's what fixed it:
    1. hold reset for 30 seconds
    2. tftp the 4.21.1 firmware, wait 2-3 minutes for it to take (config screens were still unreadable).
    3. tftp the 4.30.14 firmware, wait for it to take.
    4. Restore my 4.30.12 configuration.
Note that it would NOT take the 4.30.14 firmware directly - apparently it was too big or something.
    Anyway, my REAL questions are:
    1. What device do I *REALLY* have? A WRT54G or WRT54GL?
and, depending on the answer to question #1...
    2. Why is it marked wrong on the bottom, or why will it only run the wrong firmware?
Just weird... trying to understand... thanks!

    1. Generally, the latest firmware for the WRT54Gv2 on the linksys web site should work. I can't tell why the flash went bad. It shouldn't. Did you reset the router to factory defaults before and after the flash?
    2. The thing with the version goes into history: WRT54Gv1-v4 all used very similar hardware with a standard Linux in the firmware. With WRT54v5 and later they have used a different OS and managed to use only have the RAM of the previous versions thus cutting costs. Unfortunately, the later routers didn't (or don't) run that smoothly as the previous versions. In addition, many people liked the older versions because you can easily flash 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato on them to extend the functionality of the routers.
Thus at some point Linksys decided to revive the old WRT54Gv1-v4 hardware platform and sold it as WRT54GL (L = Linux) at a $10 higher price. There are two hardware versions v1 and v1.1 for the WRT54GL.
But basically, the hardware platform of the WRT54Gv1-v4 and the WRT54GLv1-v1.1 is compatible. You should in theory be able to flash any firmware of either hardware version on either hardware.
This explains the firmware version numbering: when Linksys started the WRT54GL model they published new firmware with some fixes. As the firmware would work on the old WRT54Gv1-v4 as well they didn't really bother and published the same firmware as update to the old model. Of course, the firmware would say "WRT54GL" but it would work anyway. The 4.30 version was the latest WRT54GL version.
I guess, some people got confused with the WRT54GL although they had a WRT54G (makes some people panic I guess) and they published a new firmware with version 4.21 for the older WRT54G models showing the correct "WRT54G" in the web interface. If you check the release notes of the latest WRT54GL and WRT54G firmwares you'll notice the similarities of the latest updates. Thus, the 4.21 is more or less the same as the 4.30 expect the one says it's WRT54G and the other says it's WRT54GL.
Still doesn't explain why you have problems flashing either firmware. It should not happen. But regardless whether the firmware says WRT54GL or WRT54G both should work. Thus if the only firmware you get running properly is the 4.30.12 then use that. It doesn't matter.

  • Vista just updated and now we have a black wallpaper - Satellite P300

Windows Vista updated last night on our P300 laptop and now acts rather weird.
We get only a solid black wallpaper and a lot of the icons we had are no longer there, and it wont change the wallpaper. Most programs arent loading at startup like normal (only the anti virus) and most things are missing from the start menu... has this happened to anyone before? It almost sounds like what they do when you have a pirate copy of Vista (and of course this one IS legit as it came with the lappy)...
    Any suggestings?
I havent physically got to see the laptop and wont be able to til tomorrow myself... Though knowing my mate its probably only something simple but thought there check around before I get there incase.
    Thankyou :)

    Solved the problem..
A windows update some how damaged the register.
I hit log off in windows, then tried to click the user name to log in (we have it set to just auto log in) and while trying to load the profile, we got a The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
A system restore fixed the issue... :)

  • Satellite P300-20H - HHD upgrade to 1 TByte

    Dear All,
I would like to upgrade my internal hard drive from 250 Gbyte to 1 Tbyte.
The 1 Terabyte hard drive have the following specifications:
    Capacity - 1 TB
    Interface type - Serial ATA-300
Data transfer rate - 300 MBps
    Spindle speed - 5,400 rpm
    Buffer size - 8 MB
    Model is: Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB SATA 3GB/s 5400RPM 2.5 Inch 9.5mm Internal Hard Drive
Laptop - Before upgrading, what are the considerations do I have to make?
    (1) BIOS changes required? After upgrading
    (2) Current hard drive contents
    (3) Boot Disk
    (4) How do I copy the orginal and format the new hard drive with the licensed operating system VIsta Home Premium edition 32 bit onto my new hard drive.
    (5) Installing new hard drive once points 1 and 4 have been taken into account and acted on.
    Please advise.
    K regards
    Reynold

    Hello Reynold
Satellite P300 is well known to me and I had it long time ago. At this time I used it with original HDD and 1TB HDD was not available on the market. On my P300 I had possibility to use second HDD so I was happy with two HDDs inside. I used second HDD for data back-up only.
Has your P300 connector for second HDD?
I cannot say for sure but I think such upgrade should not be problematic and new HDD will be recognized properly.
Here is my answer to your questions:
    > (1) BIOS changes required? After upgrading
I think Toshiba doesn't offer some newer BIOS update for this old machine so, in my opinion, BIOS update is completely irrelevant and will not change anything.
    > (2) Current hard drive contents
After removing this original HDD you can use it as second HDD (if possible) or as external HDD for data back-up. What you will do with the content is your decision.
    > (3) Boot Disk
I don't know what do you think with boot disk but before you start to change anything create original recovery Vista installation discs. These recovery discs you can use to install original Vista version on new HDD.
Have you already created such recovery discs?
One more thing: at this time 1TB HDD was not available on the market and I really don't know how recovery image installation will work on such HDD. I hope without problems.
    > (4) How do I copy the orginal and format the new hard drive with the licensed operating system VIsta Home Premium edition 32 bit onto my new hard drive.
As I already wrote you have option to create recovery disc and use them for clean Vista installation on new HDD. Using this discs you will have machine with factory settings again.
    > (5) Installing new hard drive once points 1 and 4 have been taken into account and acted on.
Unfortunately I don't understand what do you mean exactly.
Please note: when you use recovery discs you will have the same situation as you had on first start after purchase. With other words, you must install all favourite applications additionally.
There is also possibility to create recovery image of your actual OS and actual configuration but for doing this you need some third part applications like Acronis true image.

  • Satellite P300 (PSPC4E) - BIOS is corrupted

I have some trouble with my Toshiba Satellite P300 (PSPC4E).
The BIOS is corrupted and I'm trying to recover it.
I've disconnected the battery, HDD and DVD.
I successfully created an USB boot disk using HP USB Tool and CrisDisk.
It was empty after I run it. I copied three files into it, PHLASH16.EXE, Autoexec.bat and my laptops bios, named bios.wph (version 4.20).
Using CrisDisk the required files was moved there automatically.
I've tried multiplie key combinations, following the boot instruction (USB -> Power Cord -> Power Button), as FN/WIN + B/F, FN/WIN + ESC.
When I boot up with FN/WIN + B/F, it just boots up "normally", all LEDs light up and the screen stay black. The USB doesnt flash or anything.
Using FN + ESC is a different story though, no LEDs light up, except for the power button.
The USB flashes briefly, for a few seconds, and after a little while the laptop begins to beep.
When I say beep, it really beeps, loudly as h***l! 1 long beep + 2 short beeps, which goes on constantly.
I left it for about 10-15 minutes, but nothing happened. The beeps were really loud, so I shut it down.
I tried doing the key combination without connecting the USB, and it did the same thing, 1 long + 2 short beeps.
So, am I doing something wrong here?
Also, I wonder if it is possible to turn down the volume of the beeps.
Would be really grateful for any help I can get.

Excellent, seems to be the same BIOS, thank you very much.
Tried them all and none worked though, I believe I need the right Phlash16-version.
Read in a thread about people having the exact same problem and what they needed was the right BIOS-file with the right Phlash16-version.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Pavilion-DV6700-bios-recovery-from-usb-disk-problem/td-p/646151
Now I've tried all BIOS files with like 4-5 different Phlash16.exe, but to no avail.
It seems like it should work, everything points at that, the laptop recognizes the USB and such, but it just refuses to flash.
I've also tried to use "Compress The Bin File" which apparently helps recovering some Acer models, I've tried with the battery connected, USB-port at both left and right side of the laptop. It doesn't matter what I do, the result is always the same, the USB flashes a few times, then nothing happens for several seconds before it beeps. I've wasted so many hours at this it's ridiculous.
Nobody who had this actual model and recovered it?
Have any good guess which Phlash16-version should work?

  • Satellite P300-1FY - BSOD due video driver issue

    Hi,
I've bought this laptop a good month ago to replace my old one that had crashed beyond repair and I've been having problems with the video drivers ever since. I initially hoped the problem would solve itself since I am in the middle of my exams and I really don't have time too much extra time to spend on mending it myself, and I also can't give it back to the store since I need certain software for my exams.
So the problem I think lies with the video drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphic card. Whilst I am working on my laptop my screen all of a sudden turns black and my computer freezes (including very unpleasant sound when I'm playing music at the time) an after 5 seconds it flashes back into live and displays a message saying a beelschermstuurprogramma werkte niet perfect en is nu herstela. In English this would be something like s video drivers were not functioning correctly and have now been repaired.
This is of course hugely irritating but it became even more so a couple of weeks ago when I first got a blue screen because of a similar error. Leading me to lose half a hour of work on my laptop. (and as anyone who has ever had exams knows, half an hour is not something you can always afford to lose) I ran the wizard and it sent me to the ATI website to look for drivers.
The inconvenience is that I've been able to find a lot of drivers, but none for the 3400 series. After searching internet for a while I finally found some drivers for these series (or they claimed to be), however this installer was corrupt. I also searched the Toshiba website but I didn't find what I was looking for.
The laptop also freezes from time to time without the screen turning all black.
Could someone help me with this issue?
    Louis-Philippe
P.S.: quality of the keyboard is really bad too

First of all you should post the exact BSOD code and what OS do you use. Then we can search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for this issue and what is the reason for this.
So please post the BSOD code.
Furthermore I dont understand why you cant find a driver on the Toshiba website. The Satellite P300-1FY belongs to the PSPCCE series and therefore I can find a display driver for XP and Vista. So where is the problem? Maybe you should try to install this driver:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
But before you install the driver, remove the old driver first. Restart the notebook and clean your system with CCleaner. Restart the notebook again and then install the newest version from the Toshiba website.
The display driver on the manufactures website (ATI) doesnt work because its only for desktop cards and not for notebooks. So you cant install it and your notebook is only tested with the Toshiba drivers.
If the new driver doesnt work you should try to update the BIOS too. You can find on the Toshiba page.
    Good luck!!

  • Re: Satellite P300-161 - Random Lock-ups/Freezing

    Hi all,
I've had my Toshiba Satellite P300-161 laptop for roughly about 6 months now. However, during the past month or so.. I've been experiencing random freezing of the whole laptop.
It usually just starts off at anytime.. then it'll have a break then start freezing again. When it freezes, it lasts for about 10-15 seconds and everything goes to "Not Responding". Even Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't load up the task manager until after the freezing stops. However, I've discovered that when it's in its "freeze" mode, where the applications are not responding, I can give the laptop a gentle tap with my hand on the open space area to the right of the touchpad... and it unfreezes.... Surely this is a bad thing.
I plan to take this back to where I purchased it from and have it sent off to Toshiba to get it fixed as I have a 2 year warranty with them IF I can't get help from here.
    Much help needed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Benny Fung.

    Hi.
    Thanks for your reply.
Yeah, it's currently running on Vista SP1. I have reinstalled Vista _once_ for this laptop, perhaps I should reinstall it again before I take it back to John Lewis just to make sure...
I don't think it's overheating, as it can do it at anytime.. for instance, I could just be running Firefox and Messesnger and it still does it and with 3GB of RAM and 2.1Ghz, it should be able to perform simple tasks like that without overheating.
Hmm, What's this air spray cleaner thing you're talking about? How does it work?
    Thanks.

  • Re: Question about the Satellite P300-18Z

    Hello everyone,
I have a couple of questions about the Satellite P300-18Z.
What "video out" does this laptop have? (DVI, s-video or d-sub)
Can I link the laptop up to a LCD-TV and watch movies on a resolution of 1080p? (full-HD)
What is the warranty on this laptop?

    Hello
According the notebook specification Satellite P300-18Z has follow interfaces:
DVI - No DVI port available
HDMI - HDMI-out (HDMI out port available)
Headphone Jack - External Headphone Jack (Stereo) available
.link - iLink (Firewire) port available
Line in Jack - No Line in Jack port available
Line out Jack - No Line Out Jack available
Microphone Jack - External Micrphone Jack
    TV-out - port available (S-Video port)
VGA - VGA (External monitor port RGB port)
Also you can connect it to your LCD TV using HDMI cable.
Warranty is country specific and clarifies this with your local dealer but I know that all Toshiba products have 1 year standard warranty and also 1 year international warranty. you can of course expand it.

  • Satellite P300-1A8 - Part number for AC adapter

    Hi.
Can anyone tell me the Part Number of the AC adapter I need to buy for my Satellite P300-1A8?
    Model no: PSPCOE-01H008EN 15550/1024/1024/160G54/17W + BT/D52/L/M/W
The toshiba site doesn't list or recognise the model, CarPhone Warehouse didn't provide me with detailed documents, and the original adapter has been stolen. Failing that, can anyone provide an email address for toshiba (I am unable to phone during their office hours).
Or failing that, some general advice on a compatible adapter please, as I bought an adapter of the correct basic specification - 19V, 3.95A, (75W), 2.5/5.5mm connector (the PA3715E-1ACE) however it doesn't work. The toshiba site lists one other adapter of the same specs (the PA3468E-1AC3) but I am reluctant to risk buying it without being sure it is the correct one. I would be happy to buy a universal adapter but only a high quality one that will not be an electrical hazard.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Clare

    Hi PinkPanther.
Thanks for the reply and the link. That was the part of the site where I found the AC adapter I thought I needed. I could just go ahead and buy the other one, but these are 70 so I really need it to charge the laptop correctly at that price.
My main problem is that no site is recognizing my laptop model - not Toshiba or the authorized service provider - so I can't find out the exact charger online. The second problem is that I can't phone when their help line is open between 9-6pm M-F, as these are my exact work hours and I have no mobile phone reception.
I have messaged Toshiba though their site, but I haven't received a reply, and the advantage of an email address is that I can check that it has been delivered. I will try to search for the asp now.
And, as you say, the original AC adapter would be much better all round.
    Thanks, Clare

  • Strange keyboard issue on a Satellite P300

    Hi,
Since a week i have a problem with my keyboard on my P300.
The keyboard doesn't work when the power supply is on. The keyboard is inactive on vista and in the BIOS.
When i cut the power and the PC is on battery the keyboard is OK.
Do you have any infomations about this problem ?
    Thanks.
    oliv

    Hi Oliv
Such issue is not known to me and I think it must be hardware related issue.
What you can do about it? Not much except to try with BIOS update but I dont think it will help.
Satellite P300 is not the newest notebook model. Since when you have noticed such strange keyboard behaviour?
To be honest I think you should contact Toshiba service in your country. Let them check keyboard and keyboard controller using diagnostic tools. They can tell you what the problem is and how to fix it.

  • Satellite P300 with screen turning pink

    Hi
My Satellite P300 is model PSPCCA-OC6O1Y. The problem I have is a lot of pink on the screen. This has been reoccuring over the last week with this morning the worst. Presently I have two distinct pink pencil lines running down the screen just right of middle, and I also have many other random pink pixles jumping all over the place.
Earlier today what would normally be white on the screen is pink and moving which made it almost impossible to see the screen and use the machine. A shut down and restart has bought it back to a useable position, although the problem has not gone away. On restart no sign of pink on the screen during the normal bootup - no sign of pink on the log in page and pink started as soon as either the browser or email apps were activated. It does go across all programs - I cannot isolate it to any one program, so I suspect it is not a program specific issue.
I am not a techie, just a user, so if the reply can be in simple to understand language that would be appreciated. The machine is under warranty, however I am trying to avoid downtime for repair which is critical if possible.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Fletch,
Did you connect an external monitor to your notebook? With this external device you can identify the reason of this issue. That means if the external monitor works properly, it seems to be related to the internal display that must be changed.
As Jeka-IL wrote, contact nearest authorized service provider in your country. The guys will try to help you and if your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free.

  • Satellite P300-1FN TV - HDMI stopped working...

Dear Anybody who knows more than me about this, so around 6billion people...
I recetly purchased both a Toshiba 32'' plasma TV (regza i think) and Toshiba Satellite P300-1FN.
I also purchased a HDMI cable and have been watching filthy movies from my laptop on my phat 32'' TV for a couple of months now. Lovely stuff.
After around 1 month, the HDMI port 1 stopped working. It just wouldn't pick up any signal from the computer, so i remove the cable and placed it in the HDMI port 2 on the back of the TV. Worked fine. (so i guess it's not the cable at fault) Again for about a month, now that's stopped working too...DA-DA-DA-DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM...
Before, when i plugged it into the computer, both screens would turn black for around 3 seconds while they adjust the resolution, then the same image would appear on both. Now when i plug it in, the computer screen just 'blinks' followed shortly by the message on the relative HDMI TV channel 'no video signal', if i remember correctly.
    WTF??
    Cheers, Allan.

    Hi
Please don't be mad on me but you must understand it is user-to-user forum and if someone can help will probably write something and try to help. There is no reason for comments like the last one.
Anyway, I have good experience with HDMI and connection to the TV. I have Satellite P200D and Satellite A300, both with HDMI port. I have used both of them with my BRAVIA LCD TV and it works properly. Brothers Satellite P300-1GL doesnt made problems either.
So it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I can say that this behaviour is definitely not normal.
In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service and let them check your notebook.
What else you can do? Not much, just test it eventually with some other LCD TV to see if the same happen.
    Sorry for this late posting.
Lets see if someone else has some comment to this.
