What security programs are ideal for Tiger?

have looked into a few programs, Intego (Backup Edition), Smithmicro products and Norton, and as of now i am sort of stuck. Really what i am looking for is some help and insight to the best products and what would be the best to further protect my mac.

Security? or backup (I guess backups are security). Protection from.... hard drive directory problem? virus and malware? no really good program, or need for one, and there is ClamXav.
Numerous threads on why you don't want Norton; strong support for Alsoft Disk Warrior; also good is SuperDuper for backup/cloning. And because I have Intego Suite, well, their backup just doesn't get used.
Leopard's firewall is considered good but I use Intego NetBarrier, and there is Little Snitch.
TechTool Pro/Deluxe (Deluxe is part of AppleCare) was able to spot bad sectors which I used Intech Speedtools to map out (great program for doing in-depth SMART check) without the need to reformat the drive (zero all may or not map out bad blocks, it just writes zero which won't spot a soft bad sector).

  • What security products are suggested for scrubbing rootkits from a Mac? There are good articles on similar repair for PCs and it makes me want to see if I can save this machine. It's in forensic recovery right now so I myself have not done anything yet.

What security products are suggested for scrubbing rootkits from a Mac? There are good articles on similar repairs for other makes online. I would like to investigate whether a machine can be truly scrubbed or if it's best to retire it. I haven't done anything yet as it is a candidate for more extensive forensic recovery.
Also, I am not sure if various malicious spoofing and cloaking tricks (making Wi-Fi appear off when it is on, hiding unauthorized sharing/remote access, falsifying System Preferences preference panes, etc.) are resolved by a thorough drive erase or are more similar to APTs?
Finally, is there any emerging information regarding APT hiding places other than the recovery partition? I have heard mention of the EFI, for example, but it seems unproven and unlikely. Some people have also mentioned the RAM.
This is an upsetting topic to some people, including me, so I appreciate circumspect, measured responses. Thanks! And don't try to answer all my questions if you really just want to comment or answer one. All thoughts are appreciated.

    Hi, Lincoln,
A straightforward question. You are correct in recognizing the difference between tentative conclusion and certainty. Here are our main reasons:
    1. Incoming items noted on the console (or console sub logs) and Activity Monitor after defenses are overcome, and which are brought in by an unwelcome remote user, often have a process name and the word "kit." (Bear with me.) We soon observe the process is under attack, from terminal evidence and soon, decreased or lost functionality of the process. The terminal generally reports alteration of specific kernel behaviors. A simple example (that may or may not be accompanied by kernel changes and may simply alter permissions) is modifying Disk Utility such that key uses are unavailable. You can see how an attacker might value disabling partition views, mounting and permission repair. In retrospect, DU might not be a root alteration. I was thinking that its relation to fsck flagged it as a possible ring 0 item. I may need to know core parameters of a good example to pick strong ones.
    2. Incoming folders hidden for possible later use contained bundles of similar root kits, including some not applicable to Macs. From what I have read from reasonably credible sources, root kits are sold and traded both singly and in bundles.
    3. Root kits are a logical next choice for our attackers, as various prior techniques hindered us but did not paralyze us.
    4. One of the most authoritative articles I found was about PCs not Macs. I noted the assertion, undocumented, that an estimated one million computers are infected by root kit manipulations, and underscored that the kits can be used by people with low computer skills.
    5. MacAfee lists root kits (by description, not name) as a top pop five threat prediction in the coming year, though again, the emphasis is on PCs.
Linc, I am trying to show a spectrum of observations and info that have shaped my thinking. To retrieve better captured evidence requires significant legwork at this time, but it is something I am willing to do if you can be patient. Understand this long attack has been like a natural disaster to us.
I have not linked a few articles of interest because I forget if that's allowed. If so, I'd be glad to.
After reviewing this partial answer, you may form another hypothesis. If so, please share it. I am comfortable with my position but not clinging to it.
Thanks for your interest. Looking forward to your thoughts.
Oh, yeah: some material is out for analysis, so we should have credible opinions pretty soon. Not positive exactly when.

  • What Security programs are compatible with MFF?

have researched and found no answer. just others finding their newly downloaded security programs are not compatible with MFF also.

What do you mean by security programs? Many modern anti-virus (MSE, Norton, etc.) will continue to work no matter what browser you use. Or are you meaning the security toolbars that some anti-virus come with?

  • What preinstalled programs are necessary for S10-3T?

Hi, I recently purchased a S10-3T and upgraded from Win 7 Starter to Win 7 Premium.
I'm wondering what programs are actually vital to keep, and what is just bloatware?
I know that Win 7 Premium has touchscreen integration, so is there Lenovo software I can now uninstall bc it does a similar thing?
For ex. I see programs like Cando Touch and Lenovo Natural Touch.. can these be uninstalled?
Also Lenovo software like: FirstBOot, Idea Central, Idea Notes, ReadyComm 5, Screen Rotation...
Are any of these programs vital for proper functioning? I'm just not sure what is needed to keep and what I can get rid of since I ihave upgraded to Win7 Premium.
Also Veritouch.. is there a point to keep it?
    Thanks in advance.. much appreciated

you can uninstall bloatware like firstboot, idea central, readycomm 5, ms office trial, veriface, veritouch. Natural touch can be deleted on the c: drive folder. Lenovo autorotate is for the screen rotation only in tablet mode.
Clean install always the best option.

    Like added transisions and such.

Start out here where you'll find tons of top quality FREE plugins made by some very creative folks.

The only "must-have" plugins I'd recommd are "Slice X" by CoreMelt, and "Nattress Levels & Curves" from Noise Industries (FX Factory).
Everything else is just eye candy.
I advise my students to not buy plugin until you actually need them for a paying job, and have that work pay for it.

  • What office program is best for macbook air 2013

what office program is best for macbook air 2013

    To create some sanity here:
If you are going to share files with family, friends, and coworkers Microsoft Office is the obvious and easy (though expensive) choice.
If you are trying to save money and still remain compatible with friends LibreOffice is free and can read/write Microsoft Office files nearly perfectly.
Another free choice is Apple's iWork suite (you'll have to download it from the App store because it isn't pre-installed) Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. These programs read Microsoft documents mostly accurately but not quite as well as LibreOffice and export to Office compatible documents. But neither LibreOffice nor iWork saves in Microsoft formats by default which means you must remember to export them. That can be a problem.
In terms of ease of use I give iWork a slight edge over the other two. In terms of doing annoying things I don't expect, Office is the hands down winner.

  • What technical components are needed for integration of SAP BI and BO?

    Hello,
What technical components are needed for integration of SAP BI and BO?

    Hi,
you need to setup a BOBJ server (eg. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 or BO Edge 3.1) and then install the BusinessObjects integration Kit for SAP on the same machine your BOBJ server runs.
In order to build reports you can either use Crystal Reports (eg Install Crystal Report Designer 2008 V1 if you have an XI 3.1 server installed), WebIntelligence (Install the Business Objects XI 3.1 Client Tools in order to be able to build universes), BusinessObjects Voyager or XCelsius. Please note that you have to always install the BOBJ integration Kit for SAP (should be the same version as your server and client installation) on your clients AFTER you installed one or more of the above client tools.
Please take again a look at the following link for more detailed information (from Ingo) on this:

  • What video cards are supported for os X?

What video cards are supported for os X? besides the one apple sells.

There is no official list from Apple, since they don't support hardware besides what they will install. YOu can look up support for certain cards, since people have used 3rd party ones. YOu should be able to come up with a particular cards compatability.

None are '''''necessary''''' to use Firefox, but some parts of some web pages aren't going to work without a specific plugin being installed.

    Dear Experts
    Plz tell me.
What the steps are useful for us while designing the database by Performance point of view.
Like Proper indexing and table assing to specific tbalespace etc

Oracle manuals would do the best for you. There is no step by step rules for tuning the database , had this be true , then Oracle must've write a programme , application or sql script to achive it . I would advise you to go through oracle performance and tuning guide .

  • What all connectors are available for OIM to connecting to a LDAP?

    Hi,
Please let me know what all connectors are available for OIM to connecting to a LDAP?

To answer your question a little more clearly:
The first reply does have a list of connectors.
If you are running OIM 9.x you will be better off using an older version of the Active Directory connector. You might have to search the web or request it through an SR. I have multiple versions of this particular connector to service different clients.
If you are running OIM 11gR1 or 11gR2 or 11gR2PS1 then you will want to use the Microsoft Active Directory User Management connector which is the activedirectory-11.1.1.5.0.zip download. Be sure to apply patch p14190610 if you have OIM 11gR2 or PS1.
If this answers your question completely please mark the thread accordingly.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
