What series of Cisco Switch I Need?

Hello colleagues,
I want to know which Industrial Series Switch I need to choose and meets the following minimum specifications.
-at least 4 SFP ports 1Gigabit
-at least 4 PoE port 100MB
-IP20 or IP30
I can use extra modules for to achieve the minimum technical specifications.
I appreciate your time and hope you can help me.

The IE 3010 only has two SFP ports. To get 4 SFP ports and the PoE copper ports you're asking about you would need the IE3000-4TC with one expansion module for PoE ports (IEM3000-4PC) and another for the additional fiber (IEM-3000-8FM). you would also need to add the separate power module for the PoE.
Reference the product data sheet. they ar rated for IP20 or 21 per the hardware installation guide technical specifications.

• Cisco switches 3560 need manual reboot after power outages

Hi everyone,
In africa we have lot of power outages.
Working at a very big company with more than 300 switches can be challenging if you have to bring them up by manually rebooting few of them on the property.
The switches are directly connect via fiber using LH/LX SFP connector to a 4500 Core switch which is on a UPS and does not go down during the outage; only the access layer switches will then need manual reboot....
Please assist in having a permanent fix on this issue.
Thank you very much in advance.

• Connecting 300 IP Cameras using Cisco Switches

Require help on a Case study. (Can only use Cisco switch)
Description:
This is a setup required for 300 security cameras.
So availability and redundancy is important.
I have calculate the bandwidth using this software.
If each camera is set to 5MP and H.264-10, Bandwidth is 12.08Mbit
So 300 cameras will require at least 3624.96Mbits in total.
(correct me if i am wrong)
Each NVR has 32 port.
It will be just connecting within a LAN.
Here is the brief 2 possible design I have draft out, but I am not sure which model and series of cisco switch to be use??
Design 1:
Design 2:
Please advise which model and series can be used for this 2 two of design.

Hello Chun,
you need to accomodate 300 cameras and 32 ports for each network video recorder.
data flows are from cameras to network video recorder ports.
The amount of traffic per port at port connected to cameras is not huge and total traffic from cameras exceed GE links
48 * 12,08 =       ?? in any case less then     < 1 Gbps
You can deploy a hierarchical network design with an access layer made of switches with fixed configuration 48 ports and GE uplinks like a C3750 with 48 ports or  a 2960 with 48 ports (if it exists)
Each access layer switch needs to have two uplinks to distribution switches
And you need 300/48 switches => 7 switches     => 7 GE uplinks on each distribution switches
Distribution switches should be two and should be able to connect to access layer switches and to NVR that requires 32 ports each.
Different solutions are possible:
instead od deploying 7 standalone switches with 48 ports each you could use two modular C4507 equipped with  WS-4548 48 10/100/1000 linecards
the distribution switches can be two C3750 E, eventually configured and connected as a stack, to allow to use both uplinks of each access layer switch
Hope to help
Giuseppe

• Any one ever worked on 6500 series Cisco switches QOS or 6503 or 6524 QOS(Urgent help needed)

Hi All,
I am having issue specifally doing QOS configuration on 6503 or 6524 or 6509 switches. I am unable to match any EF(voice) traffic for eompls(vlan based) on 6503 cisco switch. If i use any other router as 2811 or 2821 my QOS configuration works perfect but if i put 6503 as PE2 it does not work.i am using vlan based eompls.
Below is the scenario & configuration which i am having issue.
CE1(2821 router)(dot1Q)--------->PE1(2821 router)------->P(6524 switch)-------->PE2(6503 switch)------->(dot1Q)(2821 switch)CE2.
On CE1 i can match ip-precedence 5 traffic and mark that traffic to cos5 on outbound port.On PE1 i can match cos5 packet and mark with mpls exp top5 on inbound port, on outbound port i can match mpls exp 5.
On PE2(6503) i am unable to match that mpls exp5 packet on inbound port. none of the configuration worked on 6500 series switches with mls qos, ,mls qos trust dscp, mls qos trust cos etc. Although i can match cos5 traffic on CE2 on inbound interface.i can not match mpls exp 5 traffic on 6503 and all i can see traffic as default-class on 6503 switch. I tried many things and many configurations on 6503 but nothing worked. If i put 2821 router as PE2 instead of 6503 my qos configuration works. but why if i put 6503 my same qos configuration does not work?
---match means=classification or classify
Can anyone tell me how qos works on 6500 series switches or where i am having issue in my scenario.
i am using this ios on 6503: s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI3.bin.
below r my questions for 6503 qos:
1.do i need to use some other map tables,am i  using correct map tables on 6503 as cos-dscp,dscp-cos,exp-dscp etc.
2.any other configutaion of qos needed on 6503?
3.i am unable to match anything on outbound port of 6503.
4.on 6503 i am using sup720 and PFC3BXL.any specific configuration needed for PFC3bxl.
5. 6503 not allowing me to match qos-group on inbound interface, not allowing me to set cos5 on outbound interface. not allowing me to set cos5 as an inbound interface.

Hi All,.
I am still having issue on 6503 or 6524 Cisco Switch.
" Can any one give me any sample of 6524 or 6503 QOS working configuration, i would be really thankful "
As i have mentioned in my prevoius post of configuration of 6503. I am unable to match mpls exp 5 packet on 6503. My qos configuration on PE1(2811 router) is working perfectly. I am unable to classify mpls ex5 or mpls exp3 on 6503 switch. Am i missing something on configuration?

• About Cisco switches, some of their interface are stop working what can i do?

Here in my company there are Cisco small business SF300 series, small business switches and Cisco 2960 Enterprise switches. The problem is after some time their fastEthernet port has stopped working. How can i resolve this issue? I have tried to reset the small business one but i couldn't get any change. please can i get some one from Cisco help to resolve this issue?

What is the status of the interfaces ? Are they up and connected ?
Once you hit the problem how do you recover ?  Do you do a shut/no-shut ?
What to logs in the switches suggest ? Lookout for ports going to err-disabled state or something ?

• Need CISCO switch which support 10 GBPS Traffice

Hi all,
In my data center currently I have 13 servers with Cisco Ethernet switch which supports 1 GBPS network that switch is up-linked with a sonicwall firewall.
We recently bought a new sonicwall firewall which has a two 10GE port.So I am looking now a cisco switch which has at least 16 10GE Fiber ports and one/two 1 GB Ethernet ports. That one  1 GB ports will connect to existing cisco switch and 16 GE FC ports will connect  to firewall and as well as all server which I am planning to move one by one as we buy 10 GB supported SFC Network adapter cards for these servers.
Can you guys suggest me a Cisco Switch with 10 GE Fiber supported with 1/2 1 GBPS ethernet. Also if you can suggest me 10 GE Supported SFC adapters for Dell R 710,R720 and IBM x3550,M4 and IBMx3650 M4 servers.
Thank You

• Configuring VLANs on Cisco switches - help on basics please!

Hi people.
I'm buying Cisco switches to my home lab to practice VLAN and have some doubts, would someone kindly help me?
I'm thinking of buying two 300 series switches for the servers (VMware boxes), configure two separate VLANs for VMs and two other VLANs for desktop computers, in order to simulate a small office with a datacenter and two floors (one VLAN for each floor).
I presume that the connection between each floor switch and the 300 series core switch will be via trunk mode on both, not access port mode, is that correct?
Another question: for the desktop switches, the ports that are going to connect to the desktops (which runs windows with non-vlan tagging aware nic), will be configured with the correct VLAN, and the operating system will just communicate normally as if there was no VLAN tag on the frames?
Since I need inter-vlan routing only on the core switch (the 300 series), for the desktops switches I can purchase some 200 series, right?
And the last question: presuming that I configure a third VLAN and add a third floor switch, but this time a 100 series switch that is not VLAN capable, so connecting this switch to the 300 switch, will it work, or not?
Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for the rapid answers!
I have a couple more based on the same questions:
I presume that the connection between each floor switch and the 300 series core switch will be via trunk mode on both, not access port mode, is that correct? - Yes, trunk links are required to carry multiple vlans.
So, I could also use multiple links with LAG/LACP carrying all vlans between switches?
And the last question: presuming that I configure a third VLAN and add a third floor switch, but this time a 100 series switch that is not VLAN capable, so connecting this switch to the 300 switch, will it work, or not? - Yes, bit make sure that link between these two switches should be an access link, i.e must carry only third vlan.
So, If I understand correctly, if having one vlan per floor in an office building, for economical reasons you could deploy simple non-managed and non-vlan capable switches, and in the data center, a core switch with the vlans configured for each floor?
And viewing from a technical perspective, what would be the advantages of deploying in each floor a vlan capable switch configured with the correct vlan?
And which method mentioned above is more common deployed for endpoint floor switches?
Thanks!

• Virtual IP for two redundant PCs in Cisco Switch

Hi Team,
We have redundant Computers connected to Switch . There is the third  system also connected to the switch.
We want the two redundant PC ethernet to look like one for the third system. We want a virtual IP for the third System to get connected to any one of the  two PC’s.
we have a Cisco Small business switch. Is that possible in this switch to create a virtual IP for redundancy ?
which cisco switch supports this functionality ??
Attached is the diagram of the setup.

Hi,
That is not possible with just a switch.  You need some sort of load balancer in front of the switch with a virtual VIP.  So when a packet comes from SCATA to PC1 and if PC1 is not available it will send it to PC2. A10 makes pretty good load balancers.

Is that what you are trying to do?

• NAP- Settings required on Cisco switches- 802.1X

Hi All,
We have to provide access control for users using NAP and Cisco 2960s switches.
The request is to have only domain users authenticate to the operations vlan, non domain users will be assigned to a guest network.
What would be the configs on the switch to allow this config to work? What will force the switch port to assign to the operations vlan when authenticated to the domain?
Thanks much

Hi,
I suppsoe you are using ACS 4.x version.
you need to config dot1x under the switchport. use the default VLAN as the guest VLAN.
You need to configure the ACS to allow access to domain users only (by forcing MACHINE authentication with PEAP for example).
In the NAP, you need to match the NAP selection on the NAS-IP-Address of the switch so that this NAP is only selected if this switch sends the request.
Now, inside the NAP you have to allow only PEAP-MSCHAPv2. (you already forced machine authenticaiton with PEAP from under external DB config already as per earlier step).
When auth works, from under the user/or group, send the attributes to assign a specific VLAN to the user.
Otherwise, if the user auth is not successful it will be put in the default vlan which is the guest vlan.
with ACS 5.x version, doing this is more flexible.

• Linksys Gbic on Cisco switch

Hi, I would like to know if the linksys Gbic's like MGBLH1, MGBSX1 and MGBT1 will work on cisco switches like Catalyst 3750 or 2950? Or can cisco gbic's be used on linksys switches? Best regards, Rodrigo Catarino

According to Appendix Apecifications in the user guide for the MGBT1, MGBLH1 and MGBSX1, these modules are 'Compliant with Specifications of SFP Transceiver MSA Specification'.
I understand this to mean that it should be compatible with any 'regular' SFP/mini Gbic port? What basis do you have to say it will only work with a Linksys switch?
I am concerned about this as I am developing a product with SFP ports and am trying to get it to work with MGBT1 modules. If the modules are proprietary I obviously need to use different SFP transceivers!

• Creating a private/isolated vlan on Cisco switch

Hello
I have many Cisco switches 65xx, 37xx at my company with a lot of vlans already configured.  I need to create a new isolation vlan that will not be able to communicate with my other existing vlans.  We are setting up a NAC solution at my company and we want a vlan that we can send ports to if the computer or device is compromised and cannot talk or risk the existing network (other vlans).  What is the best method to make this happen?
I have created VLANs in the past but this is my first dealing with private/isolated vlans and would be grateful for any guidance on how I should implement this.

So are you saying I should just create a new L2 vlan and not configure the vlan interface (which is at L3) for this new vlan so I cannot communicate with any of my existing vlans therefore isolating the new vlan?
Yes, without an SVI clients in that vlan cannot communicate with anything outside that vlan.
The only thing that wasn't clear was whether these clients should still be able to access the internet even though they couldn't talk to any other internal vlans. If they did need the internet, or any other remote network, then you would need an SVI but it sounds as though you don't want any external communication for these clients ?

• What is a stacked switch?

Hi,
Can anyone explain what is a stacked switch and what kind of switches can be stacked and why the switched need to be stacked and how they work.
Any links that I can go through to get the details.
Thanks in Advance,
Shyam

Hi
When you talk about stacking the cisco switches, there are two techniques
gigastack :- In this you connect all the switches uplink with gigabit stack GBIC.
guru prasad has given one cisco url for that.
and all the switches that support stackwise technology are now end of sale.
stackwise and stackwise plus :-
Cisco StackWise technology unites up to nine individual Cisco Catalyst 3750 switches into a single logical unit, using special stack interconnect cables and stacking software. The stack behaves as a single switching unit that is managed by a master switch elected from one of the member switches. The master switch automatically creates and updates all the switching and optional routing tables. A working stack can accept new members or delete old ones without service interruption.

now we can say that we have only one stacking option available that is of stackwise as all model which supported gigstack are now end os sale.
