What setting do I select for Studio Pro DVD for the video

I want to compress the video from fcp to studio pro DVD
that is ntsc 24fps 48k 120 minutes 16/9 for dvd playback.
what settings should I set the video. I tried dvd best
quality 120 minutes but dvd studio says it's the wrong
format.

If your virgin.net is normally run through outlook, connect your ipad to Itunes on your PC, click your device when it appears, go to the info page (next to summary) ad tick, sync mail, select outlook, then in options at the bottom, tick the mail box slelection box, then apply and sync This will perform a one time sync of the settings for you.
On your pad, go to Settings, mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your account from the top of the page, put your inbox passsword in, click on smtp tab below it, and on next page click done. it should verify and then you are good to go.

HD video to SD Studio Pro project for burning

I'm completing a documentary that was all shot in HD. I want to export it from FCP and get it into DVD Studio Pro while preserving the highest image quality possible. I need to make the Studio Pro project in SD so that the film can be played in most dvd players. I've tried several methods:
Exporting from FCP as a QT movie with current settings, then exporting from QT with no compression. This has left me with huge video files that won't fit on a DVD. So, now I've imported the QT movie files into Compressor and used Apple Pro Res 422 for Interlaced Material to compress the files. After that step, I've put a sample of the film (about 4 mins worth) into Studio Pro with a bit rate of 7.4 and max bit rate of 8.7. The quality still looks pretty bad when played back on an HD TV. I know that it won't look completely perfect, but I'd like to still maintain the highest quality possible. If anyone can walk me through this, I would be SO appreciative!

Read the first paragraph of the first tutorial.
Ken Stone states, "HDV video does not encode well to MPEG 2."
So, yes, you should convert to ProRes 422, when you output from FCP,
following his procedure, starting in the fourth paragraph.
In the future, when you edit HDV, you might want to go ahead and convert
when you capture, because that will make editing easier, since

The audio in your FCP project is probably AIF, which is the best quality.
Although it is possible to make DVDs with AIF files, it is not generally done,
because the extra bitrate required for audio means that you have
to lower the bitrate (i.e. quality) of the video. Dolby audio
set at 192kps, sounds pretty good, so you should probably go ahead
and encode your audio using the Compressor preset.
Note that the DVD preset in Compressor includes two settings–video
and audio–and will produce two files, which you have to connect
when you author your DVD.
random question: will crushing the near-blacks affect skin tone?
It shouldn't if you're doing it right. You should really only do it
on shadows and really dark areas. Now if you have someone in a shot
who has really dark skin and they're not lit well, parts of their
skin might be so dark that all you get is noise in the MEG-2.
In that case, you have to decide, should they just disappear
into the shadows until they walk into better lighting?
Or do you need to see them even if it means a noisy image?
The key to crushing the blacks is how you set the the Limit Effect
controls. (Click the little triangle to the left to reveal them.)
There are numerous tutorials online. The basic idea is to pull
the blacks all the way down, check the Luma checkbox and pull its
controls quite far to the left, and play with Softening to make
the edges look more natural.

Fixing the DV-in problem from iMovie when Studio Pro is on the hard disk

I found that my iMovie can again export to the camera if I took out all of the following files from Library/Quick Time. They are presently on the desktop. Can I delete all of these from the hard disk without negatively affecting any iMovie4 function?

Mmm. This does happen with earlier versions of iMovie, like your iMovie 4 ..but doesn't happen with the current iMovie HD 6 ..I have no problems, and I've got iMovie 6, Final Cut Express and Pro, and DVD Studio Pro all on the same Mac.
Yes, you can delete them if you're not going to use Final Cut. But if you are going to use Final Cut, just move them to some other place to store them, e.g: in your 'Movies' folder.

It will say "green" and use less power, park its head probably, and while early units had some trouble they have evolved. Variable rpm or slower rpm also. They can be much less expenisve way to add storage.

For the system, 640GB is a nice size. Look for 64MB cache to help insure your drive is the latest models which will also say "6G SATA 3" which is fine.

larger means higher density platter, I find the 1TB and larger Blacks to run hotter/warmer and companys want drives to be able to run warmer or with less cooling. - but for really cold drives other than SSD I have found all my WD 10K VRs to have the absolute coldest temps.

Green for your external backup, for media libraries that are not high volume access, to run cool and less power. Enterprise for system and performance. TimeMachine sometimes makes a poor backup method with some green cases.

So you can ping and nslookup from your ms to these agents and vice versa right? I wouldn't do a manual install, I would push the agent from the management server. You can uninstall the agent manually, or use cleanmom to get rid of them. Then
do an install from the console. When you initiate the install from the console (management server), should it run into any issues it will dump out an error which will give you an idea of where the problem may be.

Dvd studio pro options for a macbook?

Hi,
I have a black macbook (not macbook pro). According to Apple support, my only options for editing are Imovie (ugh) and final cut express 4. Problem is that leaves me with Idvd which I don't like because of its restrictions.
Apple support said FCS2 will not work on the macbook because of its graphics card. So, what are my options for authoring a dvd if I don't want to use idvd?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That's Apple's official stand since the studio package contains apps (Motion and Color) that are not compatible with the shared graphics card.
However, if you look through the FCP forum, you'll see several people that are happily running FCS 2 on their MacBook ... sans Color and Motion.

Chapter markers created in DVD Studio Pro pause for a second on playback.

I have been using the FCP suite for quite some time and we author a lot of DVD's in DVD Studio Pro. We produce many DVD's which require chapter breaks. My problem is that, when the DVD's we produce are played back, on most players the DVD will pause for a second or so on each chapter break/marker. Is there a way to get around this problem? The playback of the DVD's is fine, but the pauses at every chapter break/marker are annoying for us & our clients.

It sounds like you're setting each chapter marker to end jump to the next. This will cause the pause you describe - if you leave each chapter as 'not set' you should be able to play thru them no problem.

DVD Studio Pro - Story for "Play All"?

I want to make a DVD with four videos on it. The user goes to the menu and selects either Video 1, Video 2, Video 3 or Video 4. When each video is finished, the user is returned to the menu.
I also want a "play all" button, so that the user can watch all four videos from start to finish.
This is what I did, and it didn't work:
I made a single track, and put all four videos on it. There was a chapter marker on the timeline at the start of each video.
I made a story that contained all four chapter markers. So the "play all" button worked just fine.
I also made buttons for each individual video. I targeted each button for its respective video. But when you select Video 1, it still plays all four videos. When you select Video 2, it plays 2, 3 and 4. And so on.
How do I tell it to play a single chapter, and not all the videos on the track?

Set the "End Jump" for each chapter story to return you to the Main Menu.

Graphics cards for Studio Pro 2

I installed Studio Pro 2 in my Power G4 and Final Cut2 won't open because of the Graphics card that is in my computer, which is, the GeForce4 Ti 4600.
What graphics card do I need? Do I have another option?

That's a very ticky question.

Thank you for your reply. However, I could not get Templates to work correctly for me. Following your instructions, I opened my document, opened Page Setup, set the printer, paper size, orientation, and printed a copy to make sure it was right. Then I re-opened Page Setup to verify that the settings were still correct. Then I saved the document as a Template. Then I found my template in Pages, opened the template, and tried to print. The first thing I noticed was that the template did not remember my printer. Then I set the printer, and printed, but I found that the template also did not remember the page size or the document orientation. So, did I miss a step here? Lion 10.7.5 and Mac Mini.

Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4 built SD video file - Menu 1 screen is WHITE!!

I recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 with DVD Studio Pro 3 to FCS with DVD Studio 4. I have resolved a number of problems with the upgrade by reading "Apply Discussions", however, I need help with the following: When I import my mpeg2 and AC3 files into DVD SP4, I use the DVD SP4 palette to select an Apple Template for my MENU 1. (I like the "Theater Interior" menu template.) When I view the final product with the DVD SP4 simulator, everything is great including the colors in MENU 1. So, I build my program onto my desktop, the same way I did when I had DVD SP3. Now, the problem begins. When I view the built video TS file on my G5 Apple DVD player, or format it to a standard DVD-R with my pioneer 106D burner and play it back on my in-house DVD player, when the program MENU 1 is displayed on the monitor, it is WHITE in color. The menu is set to times out in 20 seconds. Once that happens, the programs runs perfectly. However, what's with the white menu screen? I can barely make out the buttons. When I click on a button, it operates and the color and program work perfectly from that point. I there an option to get rid of the white screen when the menu comes up? Somehow, when DVD SP4 builds the video file, MENU 1 is encoding with a white background rather than with the colors of the Apple template in use. This did not happen with DVD SP3. Can you help me?

try switching the menu encoding from software to hardware (or vice versa) in your DVDSP preferences and see if that makes a difference for you.

Dvd studio pro: DVDs won't work on DVD player and windows computer

I have burnt some dvds on DVD Studio Pro I checked they were set to SD and PAL and have played them on my MAC and DVD player no problem but now I am hearing back from my client that they tried playing them on their windows computer and laptop and their DVD player and it isn't working what could be the reason for this?

You can see if they have another software player available. Usually VLC is a good option. Windows player can be a bit all over the place depending on patches of the OS and other items. I have encountered some strange things, including people claiming that DVDs I have authored were doing things that had nothing to do with the DVD (beyond the scope of what a DVD can do, etc.)
When you say DVD Player, does this mean they are also trying to play it in a DVD Player (real player and not in computer?) How did you burn the DVD? Straight from DVD SP? Check first play settings and other items?
These are some of the first things I would be starting with, particularly if real DVD players (not in computers) are concerned. It also can be something as small as dirt or scratches on the DVD itself. Some machines can be better at compensating than others are.
