What Settings Are Best?

I shoot HD 1080i60
I export from fcp into HDV-1080i60
I want to burn this final HD1080i60.mov onto a dvd and have it look as close to HD as possible.
I understand that HD DVDs wont play in most dvd players, so I know I have to set DSP to SD-DVD settings.
What is the best I guess compressor settings to get what I am asking for?
Im just want to move beyond IDVD

Welcome to the Boards
There are a few ways to approach things along the whole process as [discussed in these thread|http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?objID=c123&search=Go&q=HDtoSD]
Usually, in general, exporting to an uncompressed format (Pro Res) then using Compressor with settings for SD DVD, frame controls set to Better for resizing based on bit rates as [described here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_7.php] and subject to the issues [described here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_3.php].
Some of it will be a bit of trial and error depedning on the footage, but that should get you going.

  • What settings are best to export sharpened images from Photoshop to use in Final Cut?

I need to give a professional photographer the correct dimensions to export her images from Photoshop for me to use in Final Cut. I told her:
1080 x 1920, 300 dpi, and also to Convert Images to Apple RGB (Final Cut doesnt work well with Adobe RGB, I am told). Her images have alot of heavy sharpening on them--she is an artist--and when i import them into Final Cut, many of the lines that should be crisp are zig-zagged, and if I apply motion to them, they "shake."
My problem is specific to images that have been highly sharpened in Photoshop; i have imported lots of professional images before with no problem. I am on deadline and hope someone out there will see this.

You were right about trashing the finalcut plist. As well as a very specific set of directions I now have put together from what you and others have said elsewhere, and this is it, i hope it helps others with their Canon XHA1 and Final Cut Express HD:
Trash the final cut preferences (plist) in your Home - LIbrary.
go into the Canon XHA1 menu, make sure that you're not set to down-convert to DV.
Get out of the menu. Shut the camera off,
plug in the firewire cable to both the camera and computer,
and turn the camera back to VCR mode.
Open up Final Cut, and go to Easy Setup ,
choose HDV- Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60
This worked beautifully but took me nearly four hours to figure out, including researching the web and experimenting in FCE HD

  • What compressor settings settings are best for 1080i  to output to DVD using DVD Studio pro?

What compressor settings settings are best for 1080i  to output to DVD using DVD Studio pro? I used FCP 6, exported using Quick Time.

DVDs are only SD. There was at one time HD-DVDs, which DVD SP and Compressor can make, but HD-DVDs will only play in Macs and, now obsolete HD-DVD players. HD-DVDs will not play back in standard DVD players or Blu-Ray players. If you want to make a "DVD will be played on DVD player for TV" disc, your only choice is SD.
If you want HD video on a disc, then you want Blu-Ray. You will need a Blu-Ray burner (Apple does not make a Blu-Ray burner so you will have to buy a third-party Blu-Ray burner), Blu-Ray discs and software that will make a Blu-Ray disc. That could be the latest version of Compressor, or FCPX, or Toast, or Encore.

  • When dragging photos to desktop, what settings are used?

When a photo is dragged out of iPhoto and dropped anywhere in the Finder, what settings are used for that implicit export? E.g., what JPEG quality? It seems to export the full size.
Can't seem to find this documented anywhere!

In tests Old Toad reckoned that it was equivalent to about 8 on Photoshop's scale of 12.
Typically when I export via the file menu I select the highest quality. If iPhoto uses something less than that, then I'll stop dragging and return to the file menu export.
    Doesn't quite work like that.
If you have an edited photo then there is a single generation of compression applied. If you export at any setting other than Maximum the file will be smaller. At maximum the file will quite likely be larger - less compression applied to the data.
As to which is best to use? Depends on what you're using this jpeg for - but remember this, exporting via dragging gets none of the metadata you've added in iPhoto (Keywords, Location, titles, descriptions etc)

  • What settings work best?

    Hey,
When capturing 30p with a DVX100 what preference settings are best?
Is what I see in the viewer window a low res version? It does look a little grainy in the viewer but look clearer on the LCD screen.
    Chris

    iM does not support 30p
any progressive material gets interlaced if you add a title, transition etc.
the p-modes are exclusively for HD content… standard (NTSC/PAL res) is interlaced
you need to upgrade to FCP… iM is a consumer product

When exporting to a DVD from Final Cut Pro X, what settings are there to make sure you making the highest quality DVD possible?

There have been a lot of recent reports of difficulties sharing to DVD, but haven't been hearing about unreadable disks. Posibly there was an encoding error. Or it could have been bad media (blank disk).
Does it play in your Mac?
What brand of disks are you using?

  • What settings are required for DP_PROC_TY,CT_PROC_TY,TEND_TYPE

    hai friends
what settings are required for DP_PROC_TY,CT_PROC_TY,TEND_TYPE
    Thanks a lot
    Regards
    VinayKrishna

    Hi Vinay,
    1. For DP_PROC_TY  you need to give the transaction type or R/3 document type you want to use for creating direct material POs. Could be ECDP given in the standard or copy of which you might  have created.
    2. For CT_PROC_TY it is either PCTR or GCTR depending what you want to create local contract or GOA.
    3. TEND_TYPE can have BID, RFCR etc depending on what type of bid invitaion you want to create form sourcing cockpit or as follow on bid invitaion.

Mine has four  Seriously shauntana the splitter is easy, a simple click to changre feed and eventually you will damage the HDMI port or cable by taking it in and out.  True you can only use one feed at a time nut you can only use one port on the telly at one time too.  I used it on my old one port telly for PS3 and Sky and it worked a treat.

do you connect to internet via proxy? if yes you have to either code proxy authentication or simply maintain it in transaction SICF.
    go to
    SICF->client->proxy settings
    go to http_log tab
    host name: proxyhost.domain.com
    port: <portno>
user - > proxy user id
pwd -> proxy pwd and save it .
and this setting is per client , so you have to do that for all clients.
    Regards
    Raja
I am working on getting the proxy settings completed and will update the post when i am through with all the findings.

  • What settings are needed to get iPhone to show in iTunes on Win 7

    have a new iPhone 4S
Have d/loaded latest iTunes to my pc (Windows 7 Pro)
When I plug phone into pc iTunes does not automatically open (have checked Auto Play settings and there is no listing of the iPhone or iTunes)
so I open iTunes manually however am unable to get the phone to show up in the L.H.column.
Clearly the settings are not allowing this but I have no idea whatsoever about how to proceed as there is no indication of what is required.
    Any suggestion?

Yes Ralph, of course tried several outlets (all working with other electrical appliances).
And yes, I did contact Apple ... I went through the long and nuisance process of actually getting to them ...
all the while chewing up my credit at a rate of knots and finally when I got someone and had once again (for pete's sake how often must we identify ourselves in one call?) given my particulars I was then told my credit card was needed before Apple would sent another plug.
    1. Apple ought to know that one does not give out credit card details over such an insecure medium as mobile phone
    2. the idea that I have to pay for a replacement plug after just forking out a bomb for a brand new iPhone 4S left me flabbergasted. I stopped the call and I think I felt a decision to never purchase another apple product.
I do hope someone from the Apple company reads these posts .... if so please convery to whoever that I am disgusted over the treatment I've recieved after this purchase. It was a big deal for me and there has been absolute zero joy in the aquisition.

  • What settings are required for Milestone Billing ?

Please explain in detail what all settings are required in order to do milestone billing ?
    Regards,
    Gobind.

    Hi
    Milestone Billing.
    1. Create New Sales Order Type, say ZOR (Copy of OR) through T.Code: VOV8
Maintain Delivery Type as LF & Billing Type As 'F1' - Order Related / 'F2' Delivery Related.
IMG > Sales and Distribution > Sales > Sales Documents > Sales Document Header > Define Sales Documents Types
    2. Assign New Sales Document Type to Sales Area, For Eg:
    1000 (S.Org) / 10 (D.Channel) / 10 (Division) / ZOR (S.O Type)
IMG > Sales and Distribution > Sales > Sales Documents > Sales Document Header > Assign Sales Area to Sales Document Type
    3. Create New Item Category, say ZTAN - Copy of TAN (For delivery Related) / ZTAD - Copy of TAD (For Order realted) / ZTAS - copy of TAS (For Third Party)
Maintain as under (others remaining same)
    Billing Relevance: I
    Billing Plan Type: 01
IMG > Sales and Distribution > Sales > Sales Documents > Sales Document Item > Define Item Category
    4. Assign Item Category, for ex (assuming Usage & higher level item category as blank):
Sales Document Type | Item Category Group | Default Item Category
    ZOR | NORM | ZTAN
    ZOR | DEIN | ZTAD
    ZOR | BANS | ZTAS
IMG > Sales and Distribution > Sales > Sales Documents > Sales Document Item > Assign Item Category
Note: In the above Billing Type '01' plays the main controller for milestone billing. In Sales order, at item level, we require to maintain the billing plan.
Follow the Sales cycle as normal sales cycle for particular Scenarios

  • What Comp Settings are Best/Flexible for Animated Tutorials 4 Multiple Devices laptop, iPad, and TV?

I'm making animated tutorials on a particular subject.  I will have these on a website and want them to be viewable on devices ranging from laptops to iPads to TV to iPhones.  I believe one approach to setting my Comp Settings for AE is to use a Preset like HDV/HDTV 720 which results in 1280x 720  pixels, 720 pixel resolution, square pixels, and a 16:9 ratio.  The advantage, as I understand it, is that it will work for HDTV and that, if I use something like YouTube, horizontal letterboxing will be the result in a 4:3 format (of course, with black lines top and bottom).
Unfortunately, this seems to make great sense if the content is, say, from video photography of scenes.  My content is animation and enough text at times to make me think horizontal letterboxing will make that text too small to read... that I will sacrifice some content and quite a bit of readability in such horizontally letterboxed setups.  Am I better off sticking with Comp settings at, say, a 4:3 ratio and accepting the "black pillars" on wide devices?  If so, what should my resolution be and what should the absolute width and absolute height be in pixels?  640x480? 1280x960? Something else?  My main concern hear is that I have enough pixels and resolution so that inages remain clear on TV.
Anything you can enlighten me on here will be greatly appreciated.  Is there a great discussion/tutorial on this somewhere?  Because I'm having the growing creepy sensation that the more movies I make, the more "fixing" I'm going to be needing to do when I start up my website.  Please pull this thorn out of my paw!  Thanks in advance!
I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard... and CS5.5 Master Collection, so I have Media Encoder.  I'm also on Lynda.com every day.  So point me in the right direction and I'll attack.
    Road Quill

Thanks Bogie san!  This is a big help to getting me started.  And the link got me a little farther into Media encoder as well as Group of Pictures, intra-frame, and inter-frame.
One more related question... which will no doubt look simple (minded) but have an answer fraught with complexity.
If you were me (don't panic!), and you're making animated tutorials in AE with lots of illustration (some created in Illustrator and some in After Effects) and a significant amount of text from time to time (e.g., sometimes there are several boxes with, say, five English words in them, plus some drawings in the same frame with the boxes so that, although the frames are not cluttered, I also do not have the option of extremely large font sizes)...
...AND you believe most of your users will view from laptops, from LCD desktop monitors, and from iPads and the like (not iPhones so much)... with HDTV being something you view as an option it would be "just nice to have" though not necessary...
...what parameters would you choose when you set up your AE files?
As a straw example, lets say I select 640 x 480 (4/3 pixel ratio) because I think, rightly or wrongly, that would be good on YouTube.  Should I double each number, keeping the 4/3 ratio?  Do nothing?  Do something different?  What about pixel resolution?  Am I worrying about this too much?
And, yes, I did pay attention when you said, "That's not an After Effects topic."  I'm just not saavy enough yet to know what that really means.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Road Quill

  • AVCHD - Blu-ray: what settings for best quality?

    Hi Folks,
I've got a BD-burner and I want to export my edited HD avchd footage to BD with minimal quality loss.
Can you please advice me on the right settings?
    * should I go for the 'Match Sequence Settings' option in the export menu?
    * or probably select 'MPEG 2 Blu-ray' option for best quality?
    * what is better in terms of quality of the outcome: 'MPEG 2 Blu-ray' vs. 'H.264 Blu-ray'?
Finally, I have a question related to Adobe Encore: the same footage exported through Adobe Media Encoder in 'MPEG2 Blu-ray' (takes 13 GB), Adobe Encore reports will take only 8GB?!? I'm puzzled here. How come the same footage got exported into files with different length? Is there a way to set the Encore to export in the maximum possible quality? Where can I locate this menu setting?
    Thank you very much!

Forgot to mention, I'm using CS5 and I shoot in avchd, 30fps,
    1980i
