What settings should I use when working with video from a minidv?

I'm recording with a panasonic ag-dvc7 and eddeting on cs5 and would like to get the best quality on video. Im new to all this so I really don't know haw to set up the settings when starting the project.

Well, the easiest way would be to simply drag the video file to the new item icon in your bin, and PrPro will automatically create a timeline that best fits your video. However, doing so won't actually teach you anything about it. If you're wanting to actually learn the ins-and-outs, then start doing some googling about codecs, wrappers, video standards, etc.
From a minidv tape, you'll probably be safe manually picking one of the NTSC presets (unless you're in Europe, in which case it would be a PAL preset). Chances are you're shooting 29.97fps, though it might be 23.976, so you should check the properties of your video file in PrPro to see which it is. You'll either be in wide screen (16:9) or standard (4:3) so you'll need to pick which of those you want as well.
When you start getting into HD footage, it gets a lot more complicated--SD is fairly easy.

  • What settings should i use when creating a wallet???

    Dear sirs...
i configured the http server to use ssl. using the default wallet it works fine. now i created a certificate request , send it, get the certificate & added it into the wallet, enabled autologin feature, and then make the httpd.conf file point to it. now i can not see my site on the server. by only changing the wallet with the old one, i get the site working again.
i guess the problem is in the certificate, so what should i check when installing the certificate? is there a limit on key size supported by oracle? should i add a specific cipher suite? how? can anyone tell me where to find a step by step example on using ssl?? (as i told you before, the problem in the wallet)
    thanks for any help
    best regards

    First try doing the following:
In the Application tier home go to webcache/wallets/default
Make a copy of the certificates there and then paste ur own certificates. See it might work.
As for the step by step procedure here is the link:

  • What settings should i use for mixed format videos?

shot a local show with 3 cams to get different angles.  2 of them are 60i and one is 60p.  though all are at 1920x1080 res.  main output will be put on vimeo (have a vimio plus account or whateever its called) for all to watch but will be making some dvd's of the final edit for the few computer challenged people.
i have gopro (cineform) studio premium btw if i should convert the originals to the cineform codec.
anyway what would be best settings to edit this in pp cc?  also will be doing a music video using the footage to run at end of show. prolly will do some twixtor slomo's as well as different edits in ae cc.
as everyone says, looking to keep the quality top notch in my export...the original files look really good.  i know the dvd's wont look as good as the final vimeo hd will look, not too worried about that.  the vimeo file is the one that everyone will see so obviously i want that one to look the best

I would probably go with a 1080i/30 sequence.  The two 30i cameras will match and the one 60p will be 'converted' on the fly.  Export to DVD as 480i/30 and to Video as 1080p/30

  • IMovie freezes when working with videos from iPhone

Whenever I open iMovie and click on a clip that was imported from my iPhone 4s iMovie freezes along with my Mac. However, when I use a clip form a normal camera, iMovie works flawlessly. Are there any ways to work around this issue? or is it just something I cant do?

Well it could be a few different things. Bad memory, a corrupted HD, a permissions problem, a bad video card, the list goes on. Check out

swapping out memory chips, resetting the PRAM, and repairing permissions (in no particular order) would be the first thigs I'd try.

  • What exception should I use when commit work fails ?

    hi all:
I create a class with methods to insert , modify and delete trasaction data,
when commit work fails, I want to throw an exception, what exception should I use
    for this case?

In general, you should do your commit using CALL FUNCTION IN UPDATE TASK. As this runs in a different process, you will never be able to catch an exception in your main task, even if you throw one in the Open SQL code. What you should do is carefully validate your data before posting it to the database, so that commit cannot fail for data integrity reasons. If it fails for technical reasons (DB down etc.) there is nothing that your code could do about it anyway, so in this case even getting an exception would be no use. What exactly is it you are trying to accomplish?

  • What settings should I use to "hold" emails on my Outlook email using SHAW.CA

My iPHONE6 is new this week.   SHAW.CA technical support (x3) cannot make my settings on my iphone6  HOLD my EMAILS.  They appear and in 1 minute they disappear.  What settings should I have?  I see they used EXCHANGE to set up my email while APPLE in MAIL SETTINGS LOOKUP points to

    Advice, please.

That works perfectly fine - if you have multiple devices that you want to access the email from
You would have to manually delete it from the server (web) unless you allowed it to be deleted after 14 days or Delete when deleted from Deleted Items
At any rate - glad you got it working

  • Logic slow when working with video

    Hi there
I'm trying to work with video in Logic 8 but it slows down pretty dramatically when I imported the video. Are there any settings I can tweak to get the action to run more smoothly. The playhead jumps very slowly around, it takes the video a few seconds to start to play after pressing play in Logic. The video file I'm using is a Quicktime Mp4, around 288 Mb in size. The details of my system are on the signature below. Any help is much appreciate it.
    Thanks - Gunnar

Don't use mp4, this is most likely the cause of your problem, especially if the video codec of your file is H.264. Mp4 allows you to have better perceived video quality with a lower file size, but the tradeoff is that it makes your computer do a lot of work in real time to decode the video.. Thus the slowdown of logic.
Try converting your video file to QuickTime DV, this is a much more performance-neutral format, your video file will be much bigger but it won't be making any huge demands on your system to play back.
Also, if your movie is too long it can also cause slowdowns in your logic project. When working on feature length films, they are always divided into reels of around 25 minutes each which keeps things manageable. If your film is very long you should divide it up.

  • Win7-64 Photoshop CC blank Save As dialog, then crash, when working with video / frame animations

Hi, I recently updated to CC from CS6 and am having issues when working with PSDs containing video layers, or are set up as frame animations:  When attempting to Save As, the dialog will be completely blank except for the Save and Cancel buttons.   If I press cancel, then return to Save As, CC then often crashes.
Here is the Error Event from Event Viewer:

So far I am only having these issues if I have been working with video layers and then frame animations.  Frame animations in particular seem to cause instability as I can often work with video layers all day without a problem.  Then if I import video frames to layers, or open a PSD containing a frame animation, the Save As may not necessarily work.
Sometimes closing and restarting Photoshop will allow me to save again, but then sometimes a whole system reboot is required.  It is only temporary though.
I am not running antivirus software or other apps aside from what starts at boot.

Frustrating that this thread has petered out, since I'm having the exact same issue. Did you ever find a way to improved stability?
Also of note, the issue followed me across machines. Two weeks ago I purchased a new machine, figured if that didn't solve the problem nothing would... It didn't. :\
The only similar factors are that the machines both are 64bit Windows 7 (a fresh OEM install on the new box) and have nVidia-brand graphics cards. (Again, though - not the SAME graphics card, picked up a new one with the new machine.) No drive cloning was involved: this is completely new hardware, a fresh factory install of Windows 7, different antivirus (went from AVG to Avast), and new download of Photoshop CC from CreativeCloud.
Looks like our event details are quite similar, too.

  • What is the best proxy format to use when working with S-Log in a linear colourspace?

I have been working with some Sony F55 footage shot against a green screen. I am working in a 16bit s-rbg colourspace
I made proxies out of the source which were photo-jpeg movs, nice n fast.
However it is clamped the colour values in the proxy with what looks like an s-curve which has subsequently made my keying settings significantly different (i.e far more contrasty) when switching between proxy and original.
So what would be the best way to go about converting some log-s footage to a fast proxy format without messing with key effects parameters by such a troublesome amount. I can live with a small difference of course.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Dave,
I appreciate the quick response. It is sensible advice.
Do you have any suggestions (when i do use proxies for log-c/s footage in general) for a decent format?
Would applying a linear output profile adjustment layer make a difference to a lesser format? Or do compressed formats bypass output profiles?
I only ask as I do a lot more compositing with linear footage these days and my machine struggles when it goes into a deep composite

  • What External Drives should I use to work with HD footage?

I just got a new camera that shoots HD and I will be editing weddings with it. I need to figure out how and where to put my HD media that I can work with in Final Cut Pro. I have a Lacie external drive but am not sure if there is a better option for me.

Don't use USB for video. Use FireWire. Even FW400 has plenty of bandwidth to handle HD video; FW800 is even better. If you expect to be compositing 3, 4 or more video clips from the same drive, then FW800 is the way to go, perhaps even a FW800 RAID-0.
USB2 would appear to be fast enough however there is more to it than just the raw speed measured in a lab. The USB protocol cannot keep up with the streaming demands of digital video. It may work for awhile, particularly on very short clips, but somewhere along the line you will run into trouble.
Most good FW drives today support FW800 and FW400. If you are seriously doing weddings and using FCP, don't skimp on your drives - look into GTech, Caldigit, Wiebetch. And get at least one additional drive for backup - you will need it.
And BTW, you're going to need more than 1GB RAM - upgrade to 2GB minimum, 4GB if you can

  • What PPI should I use when exporting for a video project?

I shoot RAW photos.  I like and use Premier Elements 11 to make video.  Frequently I insert photos in the videos and enjoy using the Pan and Zoom technique (frequently credited to Ken Burns).
Resizing photos helps Premier Elements to run smoothly.  The LR Export command makes it easy.  Using PSD files works well in Premier Elements.  However, I am confused about settings.
My understanding is that if no Pan&Zoom or cropping is to be done in the video the export should be 1920x1080.  If Pan&Zoom is planned, the setting should be higher by about 50%.  LR makes it simple by letting you specify the "Long Edge" so the setting would be 2880.   The short edge will match the original.
What about "Pixels Per Inch" for a HD 1920x1080 video project that may be played on a big HD TV or smaller YouTube?  There is plenty of information about PPI for printing and computer monitors, but not HD Video.
Here is screen capture for reference:
What should the pixels per inch be set at to match 1920x1080 video?  The 140 setting is a complete guess!
    Thanks in advance!

The above sentence from your first post is the correct answer with a few changes as to what settings you need to use in LR's Export module.
Anytime you "resize" an image it will lose sharpness unless you apply Output Sharpening. I have no idea if Premier Elements applies sharpening, how much it applies, or how much using large raw images slows it down. The best suggestion is for YOU to resize the raw images and apply Output Sharpening that meets YOUR taste as to "crispness." That way Premier Elements will use the properly sized TIFF or JPEG images (no PNG Export in LR) with no further modifications.
    For 1080p (1920 x 1080) Videos:
Don't use the 'Long Edge' option in LR's Export module since you want both portrait and Landscape images to have the same height. Instead simply enter W: 1920, H: 1080, and Resolution as mentioned doesn't matter. For the Output Sharpening LR's Screen Standard setting should work fine, but review the resized images at 1:1 and adjust to your taste. LR's Develop module Sharpening settings should NOT be used for this purpose. This is for the initial "capture" sharpening only.
As you mentioned when using Zoom & Pan you will want to increase the file size proportional to the actual Zoom setting you are using inside Premier Elements:
    150% = 2880 x 1620
    200% = 3840 x 2160
    300% = 5760 x 3240
For best results I'd limit your Zoom to 150%, especially if you’re having performance issues. You also don't want to make your image larger than its native camera raw resolution, which will reduce the sharpness. For higher Zoom settings simply Export the images full-size without using ‘Image Sizing’ or ‘Output Sharpening.’ Use 'File Settings' JPEG, sRGB, with 80 Quality setting, which will provide good results.

  • What actions should be taken while working with  the quality system

    Hi all,
The development phase has been completed, I would like to know what are the steps we need to follow when we are working with  the quality system.
I have some doubts regarding this could any one give the inputs please.
    1. Where should we create any Roles and Authorizations.Dev/QA/Prd
    2. Where should we  craete process Chains. Dev/QA/Prd.
    3. Can I transport the queries without using  Bex transport. What will happen If i dont use the Bex transport.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
your BW quality system will be connected to your R/3 Production system from where you'll extract the real time data and do testing which includes estimation of downtime in case of filling up of the set up tables and so on...
the most general procedure is to create the Roles and Authorizations in teh development system and then transport it across to production through your quality system...
Process chains you afford to create it directly in your production system itself... that's no big deal...
And of course, you'll have to transport the queries only using the BEx transport.. there's no other go for this as its the standard procedure given by SAP...
    Hope it helps..
    Regards

  • Exporting - what settings should I use?

I am wanting to send pictures to a publishing / printing company who will use them for prints which they will sell to their customers.
    I use Lightroom 4.1.
I would appreciate some advice about the settings I should use in the Export window.
    Question1: Output sharpening
The pictures have gone through the Develop module and the last thing I did to them there was to sharpen them.
Does this mean that I leave the "Sharpen For:" box unticked in the Export window?
    Question 2: Image Sizing
I want to maximise the number of pixels in the exported pictures.
Does this mean that I leave the "resize to fit" option unticked in the Export window?
    Question 3: Image Sizing
What do I do about about the figure to be entered into the box labelled "Resolution:"?
    Do I ignore it?

    davidrw1948,
Why don't you give me the specs of your publisher? Then I could tell you what settings to use.
Sharpening: generally you need two different sharpening procedures for your images. The first one is done in the Develop Module and it eliminates (or reduces) the inherent un-sharpness of digital images. Then for your output - be it print or display on screen - you use another sharpening set ( either in the Print Module or in the Export Dialog). The two sharpening procedures are different and usually one alone does not give satisfactory results.
In your case, the difficulty seems to be that you don't know if your publisher applies sharpness and doesn't want you to apply output sharpness - or, if he doesn't sharpen at all and prints the image just the way you send it to him. For instance Blurb says quite clearly that they don't apply any sharpening and that sharpening is our responsibility. What does your publisher say in that respect?
Resolution: Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as resolution of a digital file. There is only pixel dimension. You can speak of resolution only in relation to print size.
For instance: An image comes out of the camera at 2000 x 3000 pixels. If you don't want to resize this image you'd get a resolution of 300 dpi when you make a print of 6.66" x 10"; but when you make a print of 20" x 30" you would get a resolution of 100 dpi. The formula is: Resolution in dpi = pixel dimension / size of print in inches.
But in the latter example of a print of 20" x 30" with a dpi of 100, the image does not have enough pixels for a satisfying print resolution. 100 dpi is not enough for a good print; a good print requires 240 dpi or - depending on the printer used - 300 dpi (= industry standard for magazines and books), or 360 dpi (high end Epson printers).
So if you want to make a 20" x 30" print from an image that has originally only 2000 x 3000 pixels, you would need to resize the image, i.e. enlarge it, i.e. the software (Lr or Photoshop) has to "invent" new pixels. And when you resize, you have to specify the resolution because for a print of a given size more pixels are needed at higher resolution and less pixels are needed for a lower resolution..
You say "as the printers will want to decide on the resolution that best matches their needs as they will be printing at various sizes and also on different media (as well as photographic paper)" . Question: Do you know that - or do you assume that it is so? Don't assume that printers do things - mostly they just send the image file to the printer, and that's it.
But, maybe this publisher / printer is different.
You say that your printer would print in different sizes. In that case I would make my output file in a size equal to the largest print at a resolution of at least 240 dpi.
If your original file is smaller, you have to resize it.
