What should be the average battery life of Macbook Pro 13 Late 2011 running on Yosemite now?

I have the mentioned macbook. Its battery lasts about 3.5 hrs on normal use like browsing fb, using keynote and about 1-1.5 hour of youtube. Is it normal for this use or something wrong in my mac

  • How long is the actual battery life of Macbook Pro?

what i don't get is how fast my battery drains out...
my primary usage is document study, photograph editing
web browsing. and occasional accompaniment of music in the back.
my battery life at the moment lasts for 6 hours max..
what should i do to get optimum battery life!??

My empirical experience shows that I get 60% to 70% of Apples advertised hours.  That is reflecting my 'normal' operating conditions.  Web, email, with iTunes in the background as well as Activity Monitor.  CPU intensive applications such as Aperture, Toast, Video viewing etc. drive battery life way down.
Six hours is most acceptable.  That is 'good' in real world conditions.
    Look at this:

  • Not getting the advertised battery life on Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013

Hello world, This is my first time on the forum and I finally have a question to post lol.
So I just got Macbook Pro Retina and its only like 1 month old and Ive been getting really crappy battery life.
Im only getting about 4 hours and 35 mins on a full charge not the advertised 9 hours like Apple says.
What should I do to bring it to that?

Depends on what you are using.

  • Battery life on macbook pro late 2013

Hi im having some battery issues on my new macbook pro retina 13 inch model(4 days old ). For example it shows me at about 40% charge only 3 hours of battery remaining while using safari. It also uses kinda a lot battery while in standby or turned off. About 5% while being on standby for 5 hours and 2% while being turned off over night (around 10 hours). Also the battery keeps "jumping" which means once i have like 5 hours of battery remaining and sometimes it shows only 3 ( like right now).

Also it shows me that i have charged it for 5 times, while I only did twice!
    Any tips?
PS right now it shows me 4:18 remaining at 40%..

Battery run time is a function of the number and types of applications that are in use.  The 'time' data that is displayed is a very volitile piece of information.  It shows what is occurring at THAT PARTICULAR MOMENT.  If you open Activity Monitor, you will see that the various applications are in a constant state of flux.  There are moments of high usage and moments of low usage.
Do not expect battery run time to be as long as the advertised 'up to' times posted by Apple.  You will note that the criteria they base the run time is very conservative usage.

It is not unusual for a new MBP to have a battery with up to 3 charge cycles on it.
PS right now it shows me 4:18 remaining at 40%..
If you were to extrapolate from the figure, total battery run time would be over 10 hours.  Sounds good, but do not believe it.  My experience with my MBPs is that 60%-70% of the advertised run time is realistic.

  • Battery Life with MacBook Pro 13" 2011

    Hi there,
I have a question here that I would like to ask all experienced Mac users as I'm a total newbie to the Mac world. I just bought my MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz i5 model and realised that the battery is not functioning as promised/advertised. I drained the battery and got it charged again as per advised but still, it didn't seem to work. My battery could barely last me 3 hours, and it deteriorates like crazy, on normal surfing via wifi without playing music, etc. Take for example, my battery was left with 2 hours 30 mins when I first started typing this thread (with only this window and no other app running), it went down to 2 hours 06 mins within the short span of 10 mins. May I know is there any problem with the battery? Anyone out there faces this problem too? Can anyone please do advise? Your advice is very much appreciated.
    Thank you!

woodmeister50, I just checked the process monitor and it seems that the dock is using up 100% of my CPU, which I'm not really sure why it's happening. Sorry for my stupidity as this is my first time using a Mac and it's just so different from PC.
If you use the pop-up at the top right of Activity Monitor to change the view to "All Processes, Hierarchically" you will discover that the Dock process actually runs a bunch of sub-processes, like Dashboard widgets. If the Dock is using 100% CPU (which will definitely shorten battery run time), chances are it isn't exactly the Dock but one of the sub-processes that is chewing up the CPU. If you can find out which one it is, quit that one, and if it's a widget you downloaded that you don't need, uninstall it.

  • What is the average lifespan of a macbook pro?

I'm really curious because I want my macbook to be useful for a couple of years. I just purchased the newest model out. Does anyone know or have experience of their long life macbook pro's? How long has anyone's macbook pro lasted? And I don't mean by the battery, but the whole laptop. Or in general, what is the average lifespan of a macbook pro?

If you take good care of it, you can get a decade or more out of it.
The LEDs that provide the display backlighting will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Likewise, the LCD screen itself isn't going to last forever. The point is: for a high-technology product, the MBPs have an incredible lifespan. They're very good laptops.
I have G4 PowerBooks that are 5 years old and still going strong. Apple notebooks are good quality, long-lasting machines.

  • What is the minimun battery backup of macbook pro 13inch 2012

what is the minimun battery backup of macbook pro 13inch 2012

It will vary - you can download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store and it will give you approximate times of battery life for various tasks: Current Usage, Internet Browsing, Music, Movies, etc. Watching even YouTube videos can kill some battery life - to say nothing of actually watching a DVD, for example.
Download the app and see what type of results you get - you'll be better equipped to estimate your battery life after a few sessions.

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

  • Can't find the Airplay icon! I have a Macbook Pro Late 2011

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011. Yes I am sure that it is Late 2011 because I looked up the serial number and the website says it is indeed MacBook Pro Late 2011. I just bought an Apple TV and I want to use Airplay but I CANNOT find the Airplay icon on the upper right menu bar. I updated my software and everything but I still dont see it! What do I need to do inorder for me to use Airplay? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

What Mac do you have? It needs to be at least 2011
OSX needs to be at least 10.8
Has nothing to do with Internet, you need to check your local network and also make sure both ATV and Mac are on the same network. Airplay should also be enabled on ATV

  • How do I install the recover portion of OS X 10.10.1 on my MacBook Pro late 2011? It is missing!

When I boot up my MacBook Pro late 2011 while pressing the option key it should show the recovery icon which it doesn't.
How do I install this portion of Yosemite?

This was changed with Yosemite.  The recovery is hidden when booting with option.  Hold command and R when booting to get into recovery (without option).  If you see the globe, then it is actually going to Internet recovery, which means you do not have a local recovery.

  • Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Installing RAM in a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro
There is really only one way to install RAM into a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro and while there are hundreds of DIY videos online, I just like this one, found on YouTube, by “macmixing”.
Note that there is a difference in the RAM that should be used in 2011 and 2012 models.
    2011 models must use:
    •204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    And 2012 models must use:
    •204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    So here's the video:
Remember that the 13", 15" and 17" 2011 models (early or late) and the 13" and 15" mid-2012 non-Retina models can handle 4GB, 8GB or (unofficially, but, believe me, it works) 16GB of RAM. There are, in my opinion, only two 100% Mac-compatible vendors out there: Crucial and OWC. I really can't recommend any other brands, even though it may work, as these are the only brands that I've personally used in quite a while. Also remember to stay away from any RAM that is a “value” brand - Macs are picky about RAM and often these value RAM modules just don’t work very well.
    Good luck,

  • How can i Flash and restore the firmware ( EFI ) from a Macbook pro ( late 2008 , 5.1 ) ??

    How can i Flash and restore the firmware ( EFI ) from a Macbook pro ( late 2008 , 5.1 ) ??
    Please help me !!

The Seagate backup drive I bought doesn't support 10.5.8
The only reason I can see for that is it's formatted NTFS, which would likely be Read Only in 10.5.x, if you can reformat it MacOS extended, which would erase everything on it now, then that should work for your purposes.

    Hey Angelo_here,
    I'd run through these steps:
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.
