What should I do about the alert "Could not initialize the application's security component...." Firefox no responding.

When I open up firefox I get the alert:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
When I click OK I get my home page (google), but nothing works: no web sites will open. I have downloaded the new version of firefox and carried out a defraggle without success.

This solution worked for me:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Could+not+initialize+the+browser+security+component
The step that worked for me was to locate and delete the cert8.db file.

I'm suspecting I need really a thorough erase of anything connected with Firefox, to solve this issues. Thought though I had found everything.

  • Alert: Could not unitialize the application's security component.

At the end of November, I replaced on old Logitech wired keyboard and mouse and replaced it with a repurposed GE wireless keyboard and mouse. I tried, unsuccessfully, to remove the SetPoint software but I did install the GE drivers. After rebooting, when I tried to open Firefox (limited account) the following Alert window popped up:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."
The same alert popped up when I tried to open Thunderbird.
I checked and could not figure out what was wrong. I referred the problem to Bleeping Computer for assistance and have been working with them to run malware scans on my computer. Nothing of significance has yet been found.
In the meantime, I discovered that the profiles could be shared in my Admin account and they work perfectly. That is where this is being prepared but it is not where I would prefer to operate on a regular basis.
I found a fix in you forums that suggested deleting the cert8.db file from the profile and letting it be rebuilt at the next invocation. I did that and it had absolutely no effect on my problem.
I have to get this fixed so I can move on to upgrading/dual-booting Win7.

Delete the cert8.db file in the Thunderbird profile folder.<br />
This will remove all intermediate certificates that Thunderbird has stored.

  • FIM Export Fails - Fault Reason: The endpoint could not dispatch the request. FIM Account Issue?

    Hi,
     I have 3 fim servers:
fimportal - has fim service & portal running (uses account service.fim & service.sharepoint)
fimsync - has synchronisation service & synchronisation DB (uses account service.fimsync)
fimsql - holds portal DB for server fimportal
I've created an AD MA, FIM MA and an inbound AD sync rule. On my FIM MA I've used account svc-fim (i.e. the account I've used to install FIM). This is not the same account that runs the synchronisation service on fimsync (account svc-fimsync is used
    for this).
I've ran a FIM MA import and full sync without issue (I can see my built in, admin account and the sync rule brought into the metaverse). When I do an export I receive an error as shown below.
What I'm not sure about is if it's because I'm using the wrong account for the FIM MA. If so, which account should I use and what's the best way to change my config (without a total reinstall)?
I've selected domain (as a text value), accountname and objectsid in my attribute flow, but I may have configured something wrong here.

    IT Support/Everything

    Hi Tomek,
Apologies for the delay, been a busy festive period :-)
The account in question with the export flow error is my admin account that I used during installation (where prompted I did enter service account credentials).
Searching the FIM CS on the source object details show all attributes present (including domain), but looking at the export attribute flow shows a final value of deleted! See below.
     I'm following the TechNet guide:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff686264(v=ws.10).aspx and hit the error with the FIM MA export run profile when I run the below steps:
    FIM MA - Full import
    FIM MA - Full synchronization
    FIM MA - Export
    FIM MA - Delta import
    AD MA - Fullll import
    AD MA - Full synchronization
Initially my admin account was not in the selected containers as configured in the AD MA, however I've now ran that and re-ran the sync, which resulted in my test user being provisioned in the portal. My admin account is still not provisioned - I now get
2 export errors, 1 as before complaining of missing domain and another which complains of my admin account being a duplicate entry.
Please let me know if anything comes to mind.
    Thanks

  • Firefox Error with Roaming Profiles "Could not initialize the application's security component"

    Hi there
I get the common error "Could not initialize the application's security component" when I startup Firefox.
    I tried this manual: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/couldnt-initialize-applications-security-component
I have enough space left, i have read/edit/write-rights, created a new firefox profile and also reset all the settings, nothing works.
BUT I dont have a cert8.db File in my %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
    What can I do?
Like I said in my description, its about Users that are logged in with a Roaming-Profile. Every User has this problems, it doesn't matter if or without Admin-Rights.
Also this problem exists since Firefox 4.0.0, the last working Version was 3.6.13 I guess.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Try to remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) in the Firefox profile folder.
If that didn't help then also rename the cert8.db file to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.<br />
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.<br />
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 25: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information. Outcome: Unknown Error

Received this error (The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information.) recently on a workflow that was
working fine and no changes were made to the workflow.
I have tried a few suggestions, i.e. adding a pause before any ‘Update’ action (which didn’t help because the workflow past this action without incident); checked the data type being written
to the fields (the correct data types are being written); and we even checked the list schema to ensure the list names and the internal names are aligned (they
are), but we still cannot figure out why the workflow is still throwing this error.
We located the area within the workflow step where it is failing and we inserted a logging action to determine if the workflow would execute the logging action but it did not, but wrote the same error message.
The workflow is a Reusable Approval workflow designed in SharePoint Designer 2010 and attached to a content type.
The form associated with the list was modified in InfoPath 2010.
Approvers would provide their approval in the InfoPath form which is then read by the workflow.
Side note - items created after the workflow throws this Unknown Error some seem to be working fine.
We have deleted the item in question and re-added it with no effect.
Based on what we were able to determine there don’t seem to be any consistency with how this issue is behaving.
Any suggestions on how to further investigate this issue in order to find the root cause would be greatly appreciated?
    Cheers

    Hi,
I understand that the reusable workflow doesn’t work properly now. Have you tried to remove the Update list item action to see whether the workflow can run without issue?
If the workflow runs perfectly when the Update list item action is removed, then you need to check whether there are errors in the update action. Check whether the values have been changed.
