Hey guys ! please help me tomorrow is my exam and I don't have my laptop for study . A while ago I needed windows on my mac and while installing it via boot-camp I somehow managed to wipe whole mac partition even recovery so I was left with only windows on my mac.
My Condition :- No recovery     PS. I have external recovery on my USB. I saved those files from internet recovery was tired of downloading 1GB every time to get into recovery. )
No mac OS
no recovery partition .
so now the problem is I always thought that I do have a time machine backup on my hard disk so ill just install it simple .
I tried internet recovery ... then got into recovery ... tried to install my time machine backup and it said .. [ ERROR CREATING RECOVERY PARTITION ]
I had the time machine backup of OSX mavericks .
when I tried the reinstall OSX option it said it will download mountain lion . I was like fine download it whatever .. i tried the download but every time I try it get stuck at a point with some error . (maybe cause of my slow internet )
I have reinstalled the windows 8.1 but I cant use X-CODE on it .
what should I do
I want my OSX backup
my friend have a ISO of Mavericks and mountain lion both will they help ?

Recovery Partition Creator 3.8
Recovery Partition – Recreate Without Reinstalling
Recovery Partition – Recreate Without Reinstalling (Requires Installer)
When you go to Internet Recovery use Disk Utility to repair the drive and repair permissions. Then erase the partition, formatting it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click the option button and select GUID. Then try to install the OS.

Let's hope a couple things: that you have bootable clones of your drives also; that the backup drive for TimeMachine has over 3x capacity of the data you plan and are storing. I would also switch TM backup drives so you have a 2nd.

1.5TB for backing up 500GB, while WD Green 3TB is $140 and WD Black 1.5TB is, about the same price.
I'd be worried about the integrity and directory, and whether you can afford to lose that drive. Trouble with highly fragged is when free space gets to 20% normally, 1/3 or so though for TM volumes, and finding where and a chunk of space for the file being written. Does TM use large spare image files of like 2GB?

  • I am thinking up buying a new 15in MBP. What can be restored from my current Time Machine Back up?

This will be my second MBP, so first time to try migrating.
Can Time Machine restore software like SEE Finance, Microsoft Office, Norton, Adobe Lightroom from my current MBP? Or does it just migrate data.
How do I migrate my iTunes over?
    Hope you can advise me.

  • No destination disk to install time machine back up on to

My hard drive recently died, so I've bought a new one.
I'm trying to install my time machine backup from my external hard drive on to my MacBook Pro.
Everything works fine, except when I get to the "Select a Destination" stage, there is no disk to choose from!
    Help??

Perhaps, if your computer is new enough to be able to use OS X Internet Recovery. Boot OS X Internet Recovery by holding ⌘, option, and r (three fingers) while you start your Mac.
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility.
If you do not see the Mac OS X Utilities screen, your Mac is too old to have used OS X Internet Recovery and you will need its original System Install disc. Obtain a replacement directly from Apple.

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine after an erase and reinstall - MacbookPro cannot access my old Time Machine backup volume. Desperate for help please?

My MacbookPro would not move past the Apple logo and spinning wheel for a number of hours.  After trying the numerous suggestions to solve the issue I eventually opted to erase and reinstall feeling confident my Time Machine backups would come to the rescue.  After a successful erase and reinstall I tried to restore all my data from my TIme Capsule using Command-R during start up and by using the Migration Assistant.  Neither worked and I have received messages to the effect that the backup volumes on my Time Capsule cannot be access because I have entered a wrong password or because the backup volume is damaged.
When I open my Time Capsule in Finder and click on my sparsebundle I get an eror message saying that the disk image could not be opened and that the resource is temporarily unavailable.
Desperate for some help and comfort that many years of personal data have not been lost.
    Thank you.

  • Need urgent help please PS + Lightroom instalation

    Hi,
I bought some days ago the Monthly pack of Photoshop and Lightroom (12,99/month)
Before I had the trial version. A friend of mine told me to unistall ADOBE programs before buying the Photoshop and Lightroom. I did it, or better I thought I did it. When I check in the Application I found them there and when I click on the Uninstal the program pop out a window with the message "you have to download the latest version of Adobe Application Manager". I did it, but when I try to delete the old Photoshop the window pop out again and again, and it doesn't let me download and install the Adobe Creative Cloud I bought
PLEASE PLEASE ANYONE WHO CAN TELL ME WHAT I HAVE TO DO?

IreneOO I would recommend you begin by completing the steps listed in CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html.  Once those steps are completed then please see Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html for information on how to install the Adobe Creative applications included with your membership.

  • What is time machine backing up?

I noticed today thought that Time Machine had run out of space and needed to clear some up. It was the first time I'd seem this message, so I figure after having backups since November, I was due for the delete message, but I got a couple of them throughout the day today which concerned me.
I installed Aperture 2 yesterday and have been doing some website changes in iWeb. From what I understand, Aperture 2 works with Time Machine and shouldn't need to copy the entire library over if there is just a small change within it. My iWeb domain file is only 40'ish megs.
It seems like Time Machine is doing some weird stuff. I just checked the time machine logs and it's suddenly trying to backup 46GB of stuff when there certainly haven't been 40GB of changes.
I'd like to try to figure out what Time Machine is actually doing.
    I followed this hint: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071201084525895
But I was unable to get Instruments to show anything. All I get is a "Could not load DTrace server" - whatever that means.
    Anyone have any magic bullets?

my boot drive is my internal hardrive which is a 250 GB drive.  The drive i am using for TM is 500GB, but you are saying that is really too small.  TM, as i understand it, creates a copy of everything, and then subsequent backups record any changes that were made since the last backup.    and what do you mean "bootable clones"  and do you mean for my internal hard drive AND each of the 3 external hard drives that i have?  i'm using one of the three for backup using TM, and i am storing movie files on the other 2.  i work at a church, and we use many short films that we purchase online.  i then import that file into iMovie to give my volunteers a consistent second and a half of black before the clip and 4 seconds of black at the end of the clip. This provides smoother transitions, i've found, than trying to use most of the clips in their original form.  i then have been filing these away in folders on the other 2 hard drives.   Regarding the TM drive. Drive Genius is telling me that "the used space on the volume 02 [that's the name of the drive] is 25% fragmented (59.14% of total space).
btw, Time Machine keeps:hourly backups for the past 24 hoursdaily backups for the past monthweekly backups for all previous monthsand the oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full.
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), LaCie d2 Quadra 500GB external driv

1st)  A fragmented drive is not evil.  It will not hurt anything.  At worse it might slow down reading a file.  However, as has been pointed out by others in this thread, who cares as this is a backup device, not a device you are going to be reading a lot.
2nd)  The time you spend defragmenting the drive will far exceed the time you will save when writing new data to the drive.
3rd)  Defragmentation will just increase your energy consumption, as all the reading/writing needed to move the files around in order to defragment it, will cause the drive to consume more energy than if it was just sitting idle waiting for the next hourly Time Machine backup.
4th)  Defragmentation (if done frequently) may shorten the life of your drive.  Not mentioned in "3rd" above is that the extra energy used translates into heat, plus you are moving the read/write heads back and forth all of which affect the drives mechanical and electrical components.
NOTE:  There are situations where having a defragmented drive is useful, but mostly it has to do with needing to stream media at a high rate of speed, and fragmented files can affect that.  However, a backup drive being used for incremental Time Machine backups is not in that category, and most home Mac usage does not need a defragmented file system either.

  • First Time Machine Backup to big need to make smaller

I am having some issues I could do with an opinion on. I ran time machine last night for the first time and it backed up my main HD(450GB used) and a secondary HD(450GB used) I am now very tight on space on my Time Machine Back Up HD (900GB used on a 1TB internal drive)
I shouldn't have had the secondary HD backed up I didn't set the preferences pane correct.
I want to do a new backup of Main HD tonight, what's the best procedure?
Reformat the Time Machine Back Up HD? and start again? or is there away to tell time machine to delete the secondary HD backup content? Or do I do what looks obvious and go into the Time Machined Back Up HD and just delete the secondary HD folder?
I have done some stupid things over the weekend with my install and this one I want get right!

Reformatting will let you start from scratch, but trashing may well achieve same objective (up to you I guess which you prefer). What you might want to look into in the future with Time Machine is to exclude elements (via options in TM prefs) from backups (e.g. other disk vols or applications) this will greatly reduce the size of TM backups created.

  • Time Machine backing up for no reason

I am running Time Machine on an iMac with OS 10.6.8.  It backs up to a 250Gb Time Machine backing uMinimax hard drive via Firewire cable.  I have set up about 120Gb to be backed up.  However, after doing that, every one of its hourly backups consists of backing up about 20 Gb (even though I haven't touched the computer). I have tried deleting the timemachine.plist preference, erasing the bachup disk, and restarting Time Machine, but to no avail. Help, please!

See #D4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for some common culprits, and ways to find out exactly what's getting backed-up.

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

Photoshop's licensing information might have lost when you restored it to new HD. Re-install Photoshop CS4 and enter the same serial key for PS CS4 which you used before.
In case you need the download link for PS CS4, you can get it from here. Download CS4 products

I have used Time machine back up and as I wish to delets photos on my I mac I want to confirm that I have backed up ok. However when I go into Time Machine and attempt to open I photo I get the message ' cant see becasue its in a time machine back up'.
How do I get to see whats in the back up... any of them

Time Machine is backup, not an archive. You should not use it to keep permanent copies of things you have deleted from your main disk. Once the original is gone, the Time Machine copy will not last forever. If you want to keep a permanent copy of a photo "offline", you must make a copy of it somewhere.
