What should I do to find the 500GB of the Time Capsule?

I've been involve with the TC since was released. Recently I noticed that the Time Machine wasn't able to perform the regular back up, but not even that, the memory size of the TC wasn't there. I pushed the button on the back of the TC try to see if there's any different; I open the airport program, try to restore the original setting of the TC but since then, my Macbook haven't perform any backup and I'm really curious what actually happen to the TC.
What can I do to find the remain 500 GB that the TC suppose to have it, in order to continue with the regular back ups for the Time machine? Any suggestion are welcome, prior to bring the TC for technical support.

If you open your hard drive and look for the SHARED heading on the left, does your TC appear there?
If not, click anywhere in an open space on your desktop to display the Finder menus at the top of the screen.
Click Finder and click Preferences. Under the heading of "show these items on the desktop", make sure there is a check mark next to "connected servers".
Next, click the Go menu at the top of the screen and select Connect to Server.
Type in afp://10.0.1.1 and click connect. Enter your TC password if required. (This is not the wireless password).
Now try to reset Time Machine as before.
Any luck?

  • What should be 2nd ethernet cable be attached to in Time Capsule?

Hi -- I got a time capsule some time ago, but never set it up. Started to one day but ...
Anyway, now I'd like to try again. I'm reading the directions -- get the part about connecting the DSL modem to the TC via ethernet cable. I understand connecting the USB cable to a hub or printer. Then we come to "connect an ethernet cable from any ethernet device to the Ethernet LAN ports.
This may be idiotic, but what device? the only ethernet device I use is the ethernet broadband router. Should I just plug a second cable from the router to the TC? Should I plug an ethernet cable from my iMac into the TC?
This has stopped me several times from using this thing and I finally decided to ask. Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm currently using a first generation Airport Extreme. Still works great after 6 years. But I'd like the faster speeds. There will be several wireless laptops (including one PC) and the iMac connecting to the TC.

Internet cable goes into the WAN port of the TC. The other 3 LAN ports are available for you to use +as you please+. If you want speed and have a computer close by, you can connect an ethernet cable directly. Otherwise, stick with the wireless option and leave all 3 LAN ports empty.

If Find My Phone has not been activated on the iPhone before being lost there is nothing more that you can do to locate it with iCloud.  The only option is physical search for it.
If you have an idea of the location, call the iPhone and see if you can hear it ring.

My Mac can't find the volume " Data" on Time Capsule, Also I can't find with the disk-utility program the hard disk in the Time Capusule.
So I can't format the disk in the Time Capsule
Deconnevt and then connecting the power tp the Time Capsule gives also no solution.
    What can I do?
    Joe

I listed the commands.. that is how you manually mount the disk.. follow exactly the commands I gave you.
In finder use top menu, go, connect to server.
    Type in the following.
AFP://TCname or AFP://TCIpaddress (obviously you replace with the actual name or the actual IP address).
    If that fails..
    try
    SMB://TCname
    Here is the screenshot.
tardis4 being the name of my TC.
It should then ask you for your credentials.
And it should remember them in the keychain and be able to then get TM to connect.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

I would like to buy an iPhone for my friend in Iceland.  Two questions: will the phone work with complete utility in Iceland, and if so, what should I do to confirgure it while in the USA so that it can have full utility in Iceland?

Bad idea. There are no supported iPhone carriers in Iceland, thus some features may or may not work. Further, there will be no warranty or support for a US purchased iPhone in Iceland...your friend will be on their own. If you still want to go down this road, make sure you purchase an officially unlocked iPhone(GSM model) directly from Apple.

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.

I have to go thru so much trouble to find out if the phone is unlocked or not. There should be a much simpler solution to this.

  • HT1178 What the difference is between WPA and WPA2 and how are these settings affecting the access of other computers to the internet through my Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule of the 4th generation and I am pretty impressed since I just had a fried harddrive on my 3 month old Imac and Time Capsule restored it fully including all programs etc. without having me to put in all serial numbers etc. for that I give it an A+. However what I find very frustrating is the very short and incomplete user manual and setup instructions. I give those a D-. It does not explain the consequences of certain choices to a normel non computer gig user like me:
I do not understand what the consequences and difference is between the security setting WPA/WPA2 and WPA2 when setting it up. It would be helpful if the manual would explain something like: If you set it onto WPA2 then computers older than XXX years will not able to hook up to the internet through your router...or the likes, since I slowly supect this may be the reason for some of my troubles.
I also have a 5 year old PC with vista connected to the Time Capsule. It can wireless connect to the Time Capsule and access the printer (I have managed that after some painful hours...) but it cannot access the internet with that PC through the timecapsule wireless, only if I hook it up with a cable. Why? Does that have to do with the fact that I have set the TIme Capsule to WPA2?
Our PS3 can connect wireless, no problem. However, I friend of mine tried it with a quite new Toshiba Notebook and he could see the Time Capsule but again it shows the line from the Time Capsule to the internet blocked. All other computers linked with data cable to the Time Capsule are connected to the internet no problem. What have we done wrong? Should I change the security setting to WPA/WPA2?
I tried the latter, but then another problem does come up, which was there from beginning on: When I change the settings for my Time Capsule my Imac suddenly cannot find the Timne Capsule anymore, even so I am only 3feet away from it. When I set it up for the first time 3 month ago it drove me crazy. The very first time it found the Time Capsule right away. But when I discuverd a mistake in my initial setup and I went through the settings again to change stuff it suddenly could not find the Time Capsule anymore. Only after frustrating 20 times or so with turning wi-fi on and off several times inbetween did it suddenly find the Time Capsule in the set up menu. However, when I tried changing my security setting to WPA/WPA2 today to see whether this solves my other problems again it could not find the Time Capsule when I was finished with the settings and I had to give up/cancel. Why is that???
I would really appreciate some help here. But please I am not a computer gig and normally always had assistance with these things. On the other hand I am not all stupid either (even so these manuals assuming we all grew up sleeping on a computer make me feel stupid).....
    Thank you all in advance

Hello Schimi. The Time Capsule is a kind of product that offer you two possibility:
    - To use the TC as a router or as an external HD.
The difference between WPA and WPA 2 are:
    - They are two kinds of internet connection.
WPA uses dynamic key encryption , which means that the key is constantly changing and makes the invasion of a wireless network more difficult than WEP . WPA is considered one of the highest levels of wireless security for your network and is recommended if your devices support this kind of encryption . Newer routers offer WPA2 security . WPA2 is compatible with WPA , but offers higher security level . In fact, it meets the high standards of many government agencies . If the router and computer support WPA2 , this should be your choice.
If you need any help or if you find some difficult setting up it you can contact Apple Support.
I am sure that they can help you with that.
I am sory for the delay. I holpe that you solve your issue.
