What should I do with a replacement iPhone 4s which won't recognize SIM card?

Bought iPhone 4s on release date from Sprint store. On/Off button does not work. Spring told me to go through Apple care. They sent me a replacement phone with instructions to put SIM card from first phone in second phone. I have spent literally hoursssss with both Sprint and Apple trying to get the new phone activated. "SIM card not recognized."  Tried to activate with icloud, itunes, all while on the phone with reps. Tried w/o the SIM card and got the message "Welcome to Verizon"....I am SPRINT. Put SIM card back in .... same "this phone is not compatible with this SIM card."  More hours on the phone and another "phone appointment" on Monday with "engineers"???? What to do???

Also, I was told to ask for a new replacement WITH a SIM card. Apple said I would have the same issue?????

    You can leave the iPhone connected to your computer or a wall outlet as long as you want without any adverse effects to the battery.

  • Bought 'Unlocked' iPhone 4s and it won't recognize sim card. Any help?

    Had an iPhone 4 but screen broke so I sent it out for repair but it couldn't be fixed so ordered an unlocked white iphone 4s from a third party site called 'TradeAnythingUk'. I kept my sim card so I could put it in this phone it came through the post today and during setup it has told me this error message :
    'The sim card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported, Onlly compatible sims from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insrt the sim that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carriers store to receive a replacement sim card'
    I looked at a few forums and thought I'd try restoring the phone and re installing the software this hasn't changed anything
    Is this a pure case of the phone not actually being unlocked or is there any more to this problem

    Apparently you didn't get an iPhone that was officially unlocked, but rather one that either wasn't unlocked at all (and you were flat lied to) or that was hacked to unlock it. Restoring would have removed any such hack in most cases.
    Only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize an unlock, and most carriers will not unless you have service with them. I'd suggest you go back to the unauthorized reseller from whom you purchased this iPhone for redress, since they didn't sell you what they apparently claimed. It's quite possible, though, that you may have to chalk this up as a learning experience, swallow the loss, and buy another iPhone from an authorized source.
    Just so you know, unless your old iPhone was in pieces or jailbroken, Apple would have replaced it for £119 if you had taken it to an Apple Store.

      She was able to use her previous phone still for facetime and messaging but  it is stuck on the activation screen.   Can she bypass this screen somehow?

    I'm saying the device has to be activated to be used even as an iPod. That is one of the things about the iPhone. When she received the insurance replacement, it probably wasn't activated. It has to be activated to function. She would need to contact Verizon about that. It is an iPhone requirement. She does not have to keep the service going, but she is going to need help from Verizon for the activation since she is out of the country. It needs to be activated on her Verizon account.

    Here's my scenario. Have a wireless network at home, with the following computers attached to it: MacBook, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Mini, and Apple TV. Going to be running off of my 1TB Time Capsule when it finally gets here.
    I have come across a slightly used PowerMac G5 in near mint condition. It's running 10.5.2, just like my other machines. My question is, what should I do with this thing? It's got an Airport Extreme card installed, so it's "live". There must be something cool I could do. What do all of you think? I realize I'll probably get some sarcastic responses, and that's cool. But I would appreciate some serious ones, too!

    A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
    Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
    Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
    Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
    If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

    Then:
    Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
    Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iOS device connect before?
    Try the following to rule out a software problem:                
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
    .- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network      
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    In iOS 7.1, the setting has changed locations and is in the same grouping with General, Wallpapers, etc. Also, if you have not set a passcode, you cannot see or set Touch ID. If you restored the phone as new and it still does not provide you the option to set a passcode, and then Touch ID, then it is possible there is a hardware error. Since you purchased the device in Hong Kong, as described before, you can only get a friend/relative to take it to Apple, or you will have to do it yourself. Unfortunately that is what can happen when you need warranty work and have purchased a device outside of the country that you live in.

    Up to you whether you want to get it serviced. If you don't, I'd suggest putting on a screen protector to help hold the screen together and try to prevent further damage. It's likely that it will eventually fail at some point, but you could get lucky and have it continue to work for quite some time.
    If you decide you want to get it serviced, Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ on the iPad, the cost will be relatively minimal; $49 in the US. Otherwise, see the Service Pricing section here:

    There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself.     Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

    After installing my first 2, Ai and ID, I check the Application Folder and both the newly installed CS6 and my old CS4 versions of each App are in the folder.
    Do I just throw away into the trash the CS4 versions? If so, will all my created data files remain intact?

    Uninstall the CS4 versions properly using the uninstallers that come with them (aliases are in each of the apps' directories). Beyond that it works as it should - newer versions always leave older ones in place. Whether or not you will be able to open all your CS4 files in CS6 we cannot know - yes, newer versions should open older files, but you may be using specific stuff that limits compatibility like certain plug-ins that would need to be upgraded for CS6 as well. For that exact reason you may wanna keep CS4 around a while longer until you can be sure...

  • Trying to install lightening. Box tells me I am trying to open a file and what should thunderbird to with it. It defaults to Thunderbird to open it. Why?

    Click tools to add on Lightening. Lightening 3.3.1 appears and I click to add to Thunderbird. It downloads and a pop up box appears to to say You have chosen to open lightening. What should thunderbird do with this file. the options are open using Thunderbird a default or save file. Nothing about install and if I click open with thunderbird a new box opens for me to create a new message.
    Nothing I do will install lightening.
