What should I reasonably be paying to repair an iPhone 5 screen that has shattered?
Screen shattered on daughter's iPhone 5 after dropping on tile. Have had quotes of $267 and $195 thus far. Is this the best I can hope for? Someone suggested going to the Apple Store and seeing what they might offer me for a trade? Any suggestions? We paid about $300 for it as it is a 32 GB.
Indeed. She did have a cover on it...just not one of the heavy duty ones. I thought it was more like $80-100 to replace the screen, but I guess that is only for 4s and earlier. Talk about a rude awakening. Thanks again.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -

Bad idea. There are no supported iPhone carriers in Iceland, thus some features may or may not work. Further, there will be no warranty or support for a US purchased iPhone in Iceland...your friend will be on their own. If you still want to go down this road, make sure you purchase an officially unlocked iPhone(GSM model) directly from Apple.

You probably have to go through a restore of the phone.
Plug the phone in and launch iTunes, then select your phone from the left side of the menu.
There will be an option to restore the phone and click that button.
That will erase and restore the phone. After it's done, it will ask you to restore from a recent backup, and you can choose to go ahead and restore.
You should be back up and running from there, but may have to do some minor tweeks to get yourself back up exactly as you left off. Some things like your visual voicemail password and email passwords may have to be entered again, but you'll be in good shape. -

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

The display screen is severly cracked, and I want to take it to get it repaired.
