What should I run off a UPS to protect myself from data loss?

I am wanting to safeguard my data. I am considering using a UPS to aid this. I experienced a major mains power brown out last year, and escaped then any damage or data loss. I do not want to risk damage/losing data from power problems.
I think I'd need to run off the UPS the following -
Mac Book
Associated external HDD
Should I run other equipment off the UPS? My cable modem? My wireless routers (Belkin and Airport Express)??

What you run off the UPS is totally up to you and the capacity of your UPS. I don't generally run my notebooks on a UPS but I definitely use one with my desktop as any brief power loss would cause the system to go down without some type of power backup. If you want to still be able to get online when your power goes out, you'll want to keep your cable modem and wireless router connected as well. If you really want to conserve power and get maybe a few extra minutes, you can skip the wireless router and connect directly with your modem via an ethernet cable. The less you have on the UPS, the more time you'll be able to run on battery. Where I live, power outages are fairly infrequent. I'm generally just concerned with having enough time to finish what I'm working on then shutting down.

I've read so many different theories on extending your battery life, I was wondering what is the most optimal setup to ensure a long battery life:
1) If I'm using my laptop at home on a desk, is it better to keep my laptop plugged into the AC battery charger even at 100%? (i.e. Will the battery know to stop charging and will my laptop just be running off the AC current or will it constantly be overcharging my battery and draining the lifecycle)?

Turn the tables on the iTunes Store. Try this.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to download the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try again.

My thoughts:
Answer 1. above is the simplest, but clients that don't care about the "A" column still end up having to react to this event, as they can't tell from the event itself what's changed.
Answer 5. above is the cleanest - it just captures the "difference". The downside is that it forces the client to roll up changes to display an audit log of the full state on each change. Also event triggered activities may require knowledge of
the full state to work.
Answer 4. above is perhaps more generally useful? It carries what's changed, but some contextual information alongside it.
Answer 2. above falls into a trap of asserting what the previous state was. What if that's not the previous state in your datastore, perhaps in a test environment? Do you reject the event as invalid? Would retroactively inserting an event mean changing
all subsequent events "previousState" fields?

You have two competing demands, and I think you need to choose which of them you want to win. Demand 1, to have a fixed record of the state in each event. Useful for quick auditing by scanning the raw messages
Demand 2, to have a record of the changes applied in each event, to facilitate event sourcing.
Those two demands seem only subtly different, why not do both? Within that subtlety, however, you'll find that they are utterly conflicting. Demand 1 specifies that the knowledge of, and hence control of the mutation of state occurs with the sender, as it has
absolute knowledge of the state (either before or after the change). Demand 2 specifies that the knowledge of, and control of state mutation occurs in the receiver.
Demand 2 is suitable for event sourcing (recording that a change is requested), demand 2 is not, it is, as you say, more of an audit log (recording that a change has occurred)
So, for that reason, since you want to do event sourcing, the only possible workable format is 5.
Part of this is likely caused by the fact that you are coming at event sourcing by listening to mutation occurring in a database, whereas it should be the other way round, events causing the mutation to occur.
That's not to say that you can't get your scheme to work, and satisfy your requirements well, just don't think of it as event sourcing, as that's not what you actually want.
Adopting an event sourced data setup would support your needs above somewhat more easily, but adapting existing systems to that can be very involved to do.

First off you can't get a brand new latest issue Mac any less expensive than perhaps 10% or so off the price you see at the Apple Store online.

If your getting a new latest Mac in a sealed box at a lot less than the above link prices without tax, then it's likely stolen.
Now it could be a Early 2011 model Mac, Apple is now on the Late 2011 model Mac's with slight upgrades, so if it's a Early 2011 Mac, then yes you might be able to get it cheaper as a closeout, make sure you buy it at the store with a receipt and everything so it's a legitimate transaction.

Main thing is to cover your behind, if you buy stolen merchandise then it's taken away and you lose it and your money, not to mention possibly going to jail if you knew it was stolen.

You can't transfer an account's balance to another account.
The page that you’ve posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should let you reset them.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

I'm a great believer in the KISS principle.
Configuration is simple if you start from a factory default condition. Then connect the Airport to AC power and finally to the Internet modem (or modem/router). Open Airport Utility on your Mac or other computer and accept all of the recommendations EXCEPT as noted on the first graphic below. After confirming that it works, insert your desired administrative and WiFi passwords. AirPlay is a separate selection. Refer to second graphic below.
Do not expect the Airport to respond instantly to the configuration commands. BE PATIENT!

OS X thinks computer is running off UPS when it's not

When I plug the USB cable from an APC Back-UPS Pro 500 uninterruptible power supply into my new iMac, I immediately get the warning from OS X that my computer is running off the UPS and that I need to save my work and shut down. The status bar icon also lists "UPS" as the power source. This leads in short order to the computer shutting down.
OS X is clearly recognizing the UPS (the selector drop-down box in Energy Saver appears when I connect the USB cord), but isn't seeing that the UPS is running fine off of normal power. It's not a problem with the cord (I've switched it out), nor with the connection (I've plugged it both into a hub and into the iMac itself), nor with the UPS (it worked fine with a PC yesterday.
What ought I to do?

if you are relying strictly on what you see on Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage - and to do not use iTunes with your iPad - you might not be seeing something critical that can be using up the storage space on your device. It may be that "other" data is taking up all of the storage and you can only see that when the iPad is connected to your comouter's iTunes.
THere are many web articles that describe ways of getting rid of a large amount of "other" data. Take a look at these.

You cannot get rid of all of it and you don't want to get rid of it all because it is data that you need. It should never be a large amount like 10 GB. If it grows too large, that usually indicates something has gone corrupt on the device and sometimes the only way to bring it back down to where it should be is to restore as new.

Unfortunately Viber does not officially support Mac OS 10.6.8 - Viber is compatible with Mac versions 10.7 and above.

Put the G4 into Target Disk Mode and open Migration Assistant on the new MBP. Your G4 needs to be running 10.5.8.

I copied my Visual Studio 2008 projects to a new computer and am having trouble getting the database to attach to my website to continue with it.
I uninstalled SQL 2005 express and installed SQL 2008 R2 Express.
When I looked in the SQL Server configuration manager, I wasn't sure what should be running and what should be stopped and what protocols should be enabled, etc so I started everything and enabled everything.
However, the SQL Server Agent will not start. Maybe I did something wrong by enabling everything. I have everything to start automatically, and all enabled:
SQL Native Client: I right clicked and opened and under client protocols, have enabled all: Shared memory, TCP/IP , named pipes, VIA
and under SQL Server Network Configuration, I opened that and under there is listed protocols for SQLEXPRESS AND I enabled same things: Shared memory, TCP/IP , named pipes, VIA
When I could not start the SQL Server Agent before from the SQL Server configuration mgr. I went into services and started it that way and it did start. But since I have rebooted, it will not start that way either and I now get this message: Windows could
not start the SQL Server Agent(SQLEXPRESS) Service on local computer. Error 1067

Windows could not start the SQL Server Agent(SQLEXPRESS) Service on local computer.
As the others already wrote, with SQL Server Express in Version 2008 the "SQL Server Agent" will be installed, but it's not a Feature of the Express Edition and therefore you can't start & use it.
In SQL Server 2005 Express the Agent was completly missing (not installed), therefore you haven't this "issue" before.

iTunes may display a message that it could not update iPod because the firmware file was corrupt or not found.

Solution
The message does not indicate that there is an issue with the iPod but that iTunes was unable to read the firmware file it uses to restore or update your iPod. You can delete the folder containing the firmware files so iTunes can download a useable (non-corrupted) version.
Here are the steps to take if you get this message:
Eject iPod and quit iTunes.
Use Disk Utility in Mac OS X or run chkdsk in Windows to verify there are no other issues on your hard drive.
Locate the iPod Software Updates folder:
In Mac OS X, the folder is
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates (~ represents your home directory)
In Windows, the folder is
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
Note: If you don't see the files in Windows, turn on the Show hidden files option.
Open My Computer.
From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings pane, select the "Show hidden files and folders" button.
Click OK.
Drag the iPod Software Updates folder to the Trash or Recycle Bin.
Connect iPod and open iTunes. You will need to be connected to the Internet to download the files.
