I'm using this router with my IMB T23. As long as I'm in the same room with the router it works fine but if I go upstairs Windows XP begins to lock up and I lose connection to the router even when the connection is shown to be "very good". About half the time, when it does this I have to retart the unit and I find that the factory installed wirless adapter has lost it's firmware and I have to reflash it to get it working again. Phone support told me the unit only has range of 30ft!? I'm not impressed so far. Firmware has been upgraded and channel 6 is the best one for signal and speed.

well...the router should give you an efficient range of 50-60 fts....and if it says that the connection is "very good" , that means it has not lost the connection to the router .. did u reset the router after the upgrade ?? if not , reset the router for 30 seconds and then reconfigure it...change the ssid , try out channels - 1, 9 or 11 ... under "advanced wireless settings" change the beacon - 75 , fragmentation - 2306 and RTS - 2307 ....
one question here..u wrote "factory installed wirless adapter has lost it's firmware and I have to reflash it to get it working again " ... could you be more specific on this so that i understand it better...because the adapter does not have any firmware...and if you are talking about the router , then it should not lose the firmware everytime.....

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

While installing the CS6 Apps through CC Subscription, what should I do with my old CS4 App

While installing the CS6 Apps through Creative Cloud Subscription, what should I do with my old CS4 Apps still in my Apps folder?
After installing my first 2, Ai and ID, I check the Application Folder and both the newly installed CS6 and my old CS4 versions of each App are in the folder.
Do I just throw away into the trash the CS4 versions? If so, will all my created data files remain intact?
Someone please respond and help, rather than just viewing this, as the many views listed show. Thanks!

Uninstall the CS4 versions properly using the uninstallers that come with them (aliases are in each of the apps' directories). Beyond that it works as it should - newer versions always leave older ones in place. Whether or not you will be able to open all your CS4 files in CS6 we cannot know - yes, newer versions should open older files, but you may be using specific stuff that limits compatibility like certain plug-ins that would need to be upgraded for CS6 as well. For that exact reason you may wanna keep CS4 around a while longer until you can be sure...

Trying to install lightening. Box tells me I am trying to open a file and what should thunderbird to with it. It defaults to Thunderbird to open it. Why?

Click tools to add on Lightening. Lightening 3.3.1 appears and I click to add to Thunderbird. It downloads and a pop up box appears to to say You have chosen to open lightening. What should thunderbird do with this file. the options are open using Thunderbird a default or save file. Nothing about install and if I click open with thunderbird a new box opens for me to create a new message.
Nothing I do will install lightening.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

I got this laptop from my aunt. It's an old IBook G3 Dual USB laptop with Mac OS x. It was very lightly used. I bought an airport card for it and downloaded a browser for it called Classila. Now I'm wondering: What should I do with it? Are there any games I can buy for it? I can't play any modern games like Minecraft or any others I've tried. We need to know how much space is on the hard drive. See if Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility gives you the information on the hard drive (its capacity and available space).

Note this:

If the iBook has a drive which is capable of reading DVDs and has enough available space on it, then it would probably run best with Mac OS X 10.4.11 (once you have maximized the RAM with the 512 MB module).

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. That could be a hardware problem with the screen digitizer but first try these troubleshooting steps in this order:
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.

If you downloaded and ran the installer, you will probably have beta 12 and RC1 installed, you do not need both and can uninstall beta 12. Just make sure you do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data" is you uninstall beta 12, that option will delete all of your Firefox user data such as bookmarks and passwords.

Up to you whether you want to get it serviced. If you don't, I'd suggest putting on a screen protector to help hold the screen together and try to prevent further damage. It's likely that it will eventually fail at some point, but you could get lucky and have it continue to work for quite some time.

I am pretty sure you meant Time Machine instead of Time Capsule. For external HD's almost any external HD would be adequate. The only brand I'm not a big fan of are WD's external drives although some posters have a lot of luck with them. Personally I like:
G-Tech G-DRIVE series
LaCie d2 Quadra series
OWC Mercury Elite Pro series
for their build quality and features. Personally I use 4 of the LaCie's but any of the others would be welcome on my desk too. If you are interested I noticed Lacie had teh 1TB available today as a refurbished model for less than $100, a great buy! The URL is:

Hey everybody,
Here's my scenario. Have a wireless network at home, with the following computers attached to it: MacBook, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Mini, and Apple TV. Going to be running off of my 1TB Time Capsule when it finally gets here.
I have come across a slightly used PowerMac G5 in near mint condition. It's running 10.5.2, just like my other machines. My question is, what should I do with this thing? It's got an Airport Extreme card installed, so it's "live". There must be something cool I could do. What do all of you think? I realize I'll probably get some sarcastic responses, and that's cool. But I would appreciate some serious ones, too!
