What should the battery life on my 13" Macbook air be?

I have a 13" macbook air (mid 2012) and the battery life is around 2.5 to 3 hours.  I know after a while the strength of the battery diminishes but should i only be getting about 2.5 hours?  I am still under apple care till 2015 should I have apple look at it and repair/replace battery?  I know on the newer 13" models the battery is 12 hours (new processor and chips) but still shouldn't my battery last longer than 2.5 hours?

It should get a great dea; ,pre tjam 2 1/2 hours. First a question. Is this the actual amount of time you are getting or is it the estimate provided by the battery menulette icon? The estimate is often very wrong.
But assuming this is actual battery life, the first thing to do is run the Activity monitor, click on the CPU tab, and then click on the % CPU column so the little triangle is pointing down. This will give you a list of all the processes your computer is running and at the top of the list you'll see the ones that are taking up the most power. Also, if your Dock is hidden, temporarily unhide it. Now click and hold the mouse button on the Activity Monitor icon in the Dock. You'll get a little menu. Select Dock iCon and then CPU Usage. This icon will give you blue bars for each CPU core. Lots of blue means high CPU usage and lots of grey means low CPU usage.
As you use your computer keep an eye on the AM icon. If your battery problem is due to high CPU usage you'll see the bars in the AM icon showing lots of blue frequently. It may be due to the program(s) you are using. For example, VMWare and Windows 8 are battery killers. So are 3D games. But if you are word processing, checking email, etc you shouldn't see more than a glimmer of blue most of the time.
If it turns out you don't have high CPU useage the problem could be the battery and that means a trip to the Apple store.

How long is normal battery life for late 2011 macbook air?

I would also note that the 11" and 13" have different lives.  While the 11" has a smaller screen to drive (and thus, in theory, less power) it also has less space for a battery.  So it turns out the 13" has a longer battery life, all other things being equal (same usage and the like).
Clearly what's "average" will vary by user.  Depending on what I'm doing, I can get Apple's rated life (or darned close) or I could end up well short of that life.  The "rated" life is 5 hours for the 11" and 7 hours for the 13" but that is, at best, a very rough approximation.  As the picture in captfred's response makes clear, the actual usage of the machine has a huge influence.

  • What is the Pin Code for unlock for Macbook Air System Lock ?

What is the Pin Code for unlock for Macbook Air System Lock ?

It usually means that the  owner of the device sent a directive through icloud(find my mac), to lock the device because it has been stolen.
The only means to unlock the device is to have Apple (Apple Store) unlock it for the owner. If you are the owner, be prepared to show proof of legitimate ownership. It is likely that Apple will want to contact the registered owner to make sure that the device has been legitmately transferred.
I'm really thinking you may have bought stolen property. Ask the seller why it is locked, and if the device is registered to him/her, to release the registration on Apple's website. Only then, will you be able to re-register the device in YOUR name.

  • What is the battery life span of ipad2? How do you know when it is dying?

I have only a PC and afraid to loose what I have on my iPad if the battery goes dead. This happened to me on iPod when I lost every thing after 5 years of using it.

Battery will last about 2 to 3 years.
    Sign of failure:
    1. Very hot when charging
    2. Not holding charge; discharge very quickly
    3. Takes a long time to charge

  • To MBA 2013 i5 users: What is the battery life?

    Hey guys,
there are some hot discussions over battery life in MBA 2013 with i7. I personally own one and I can say that 12 hours is nothing close to the truth. Battery life can reach that long when WiFi is turned off, but web browsing is the most basic activity on a computer these days. My MBA gets around 7 hours of battery life when using Internet connection and I feel cheated by Apple.
I'm thinking of exchanging my model to i5 one, but haven't out whether battery life is significantly better or it's same kind of gimmick.

several reports indicate (from reputable testing sites) that 12 hours on the I5 13" are understated, and that 2 hardcore tests indicated just under 13 HOURS, or a hair OVER 13 hours
I have an I5 13", and I dont say with difficulty that batt. life is, in short, crazy / shockinginly fantastic.
My older 2011 Macbook Air i just sold, ......it literally blows my old AIR out of the water powerwise, and writing 1.1GIG Photoshop to the HD, was id say about 40% faster from full install between the 2. (old and new).
I run nonstop youtube (white noise) in the background.....(on firefox, which is a battery hog compared to Safari), and typing, and opening PDF files.........under those conditions, im getting about nearly 12 hours batt. life,  of the 2 times ive actually clocked it.
Ive compared my I5 next to my friend Stefans I7 13", i did same same testing for 5 hours, and his was 28% LESS batt life

  • What's the best multi-monitor solution for macbook air?

I am trying to create a 3 monitor setup for my MBAir 13" Late 2011, and also a 2-monitor setup for my wife's 2013 11" MB Air.  What is the best solution to accomplish this?  I have already narrowed down my monitor selection to the Dell Ultrasharp U2414H with the micro-bezel.
What should I use to connect the laptops to the monitors?  Matrox Triplehead2Go DP edition?  Any experience would be greatly appreciated here!
    Thanks!
    Rich

There are no good cheap solutions due to Macbook Air's only supporting thunderbolt 1 regardless of what your User Manual may say. U2414H is not capable of daisychaining on Macbook Airs', only 2013 Macbook Pros and later. Your Two choices are  Lg 34um95 and daisy chain those with thunderbolt cables or Apple's Thunderbolt display. If you dont care about quality of your second and third monitor external (meaning tearing and slow frame rates). Get a USB 3.0 to (HDMI or DVI) ( Your prefrecnce between HDMI and DVI (Make sure that the device you pick is Mac Compatible)) and a usb 3.0 hub with an AC outlet of preferably 12V, 5V may be too little. for your second and third external monitor and a thunderbolt to (HDMI or DVI) for the first monitor. USB 3.0 Does not have great video performance in viewing your screens. Watching Movies or Playing games using USB 3.0 will result in video tearing. I only recommend using the usb 3.0 adapter screens for Typing or web surfing.
    Basically
1st external monitor( Fast Normal Framerates and no Video Tearing) <----Thunderbolt to HDMI/DVI adapter
2nd and 3rd external Monitor ( Slow Framerates with Video Tearing)(USB 3.0 to HDMI/DVI) connected to USB 3.0 12V Adapter Hub connected to 1 macbook air usb 3.0 Port.

  • What is the best way to back up macbook air to qnap

I've had the macbook air since January and this is the 4th or 5th time I've had to start the Timemachine backups from scratch.  This time it's not working at all
Every time we have to restart the qnap for any reason the time machine fails.  It tells me the back up cannot be verified and wants to start a new back-up.  This means I can't go back before a point in time.  This time is even worse because it spends a couple of minutes trying to connect to the qnap, then ignores it and tries to create the backup on my mac (1.5 million days and counting)
I don't want to buy a time capsule when we have sufficient kit.  I don't want to get into all the geek stuff - I want something that works without me having to spend the night googling obscure answers.  In short, I want self evident solutions like you get with the iphone.  Clearly the qnap and time machine are not reliably compatible.
My question is -  what toolset can I use with my macbook to automate backups, with minimum intervention, to a qnap or other non-Apple device?
    Thanks in advance

Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.
Despite what the QNAP says, Apple doesn't support backing up to anything over a network except a Time Capsule or an external directly connected to another Mac.

  • What is the alternative to adobe flash on macbook air?

What kind of alternative do I have to view certain sites? I realize that Adobe Flash is not the best option. Any good and safe alternatives for MacBook Air?
    Thank you.

There are no proper alternatives as flash is not, and probably never will be, supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Plus it would be up to Adobe to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices - something which they have never managed to do and which they have now given up on trying to do.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so your could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app).

  • What is the best os x for a Macbook Air mid 2011?

    Hello friends,
Just looking for some suggestions and opinions
I have a Macbook Air mid 2011 2 gb ram 64 gb ssd.
It came with osx lion but i'm baffled about if i should upgrade to osx Mountain Lion, just worried about how wouild it perform and any advantages versus Osx Lion
Please let me know your opinioons and suggestions.
    Thanks all

I would not recommend upgrading because 1) You have the minimum ram to upgrade.  2) Also, look at the features.  If their are none that you feel you need, then their is really no reason to upgrade.

  • What does the "master password" do on a MacBook Air?

I was looking around on the privacy settings on my MacBook Air, and I came across an option to set a "master password". This sounded safe, so I set a difficult one that was memorable for me. I'm just curious: What does the master password do? Why would I need one? and When can I activate it?
    Thanks

OS X 10.6 and earlier versions
Master Password can be used to reset login/administrator password without using Installation DVD.
If the password is forgotten, try to login to your account and enter the any wrong password 3 times.
"Forgot Password?" box will appear. Click it.
Enter Master Password and the new login password  to reset it.
OS X 10.7 and later versions
You can use Apple ID to reset password in the newer version of OS X.
    Best.

  • How long should the battery life live?

My Itouch keeps dying after only 3 hours!

It depends on what you use it for.  If I am listening to audiobooks, my iPod touch will go for hours.  If I am using it for email or other internet type stuff it will last a few hours, but I have a few games I play (Boggle for example) which have 3D animations.  I asked your question shortly after getting the game.  It uses a lot of battery power and in an hour or so of a lot of playing it needs recharging.

  • Opinion - what's the best protective "skin" for my Macbook Air

    Hi
need some advice. I bought a Zagg Invisible Shield and started 'installing' in - I only got the bottom done and decided I HATE the fact it makes my Mac feel and look shiny - hardly invisible....
So - for the time being I am naked except for the bottom shell. I want to protect the rest of my Mac but I don't want it shiny - I love the satin feel of it. I also don't want to put some clunky platsic cover on my Mac that adds millimetres to the size. I bought it because it is sleek, slim and satiny and I want it to remain that way - am I destined to remain forever naked or does someone have some advice on what to use for protection?

My cousin has this one on his Air. I was quite impressed with it. Especially the feel, and thin-ness.

I am eager to buy one myself, but with a 1-2 month wait, I might not have the current version Air by the time it becomes available.
This is the one I have now. I like it, but it does add a bit too much dimensionally.
