What should we do if we're still having blue screen crashes with iTunes 8?

I'm running Vista x64 and iTunes 8 is still unstable for me. It doesn't BSOD regularly, but does it enough to be very annoying. I've already applied the official Apple solution (uninstall/reinstall), but that didn't seem to make much of a difference.
I'm somewhat concerned that the full un/re-install didn't make any change. Is there anyway to check if I'm now running the fixed version of iTunes?
What else can I do to fix this?
BTW, I don't have a HP printer like some other people have mentioned. Actually, I don't have any printer at all attached.

The version is 8.0.0.35, but I thought that was the same for the first (bad) iTunes 8 as well as the second (better?) version.

    Your MBP will support a 3T HDD provided it is formatted correctly and has sufficient power.  Most large HDDs require an outboard power source.
    When you delete songs from iTunes you will get a message if you want to send it to trash.  If you send it to trash, space will be freed up only when you empty trash.  An individual song does not consume much space so if your HDD is becoming full, more drastic action s should be considered, such as moving an entire file to an external HDD.

    Is this a new Apple iD? If it is, and you have already set it up, then you have two options:
    1.     Temporarily put a Credit Card or Gift Card on the account to download the free app. If you put a credit card, then once you have downloaded the app, you should be able to go into your Account preferences and change the payment option to = None.
    2.     You can download the fee App, and then set up a new Apple ID.

    That is not what I said.
    Normal.dotm is a template, not a .doc file. It is the template that every new document is based upon, IF you changed any of the template settings (font size or other attributes) then you will be prompted to save the changes.
    Did you? (or is this an old Windows Template)

    Firstly ensure you have full backup your can restore from - Time Machine or clone, in case you need to restore to the previous OS for any reason.
    Make sure your computer meets the specs: https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    Although the tech specs say 2gb of RAM is required, user experience seems to indicate that at least 4gb is required for real-world use.
    Be aware that any older PowerPC apps will not longer run as Mavericks (or Lion and Mountain Lion) don't support Rosetta, which enabled the ability. If you rely on any you may need to do lots of updates or replace some apps. Here is a fairly comprehensive list of compatibility of various apps:

    If you decide to upgrade download and install Mavericks from the Mac App Store (in the Apple menu). The installer is 5.3gb, so it's a large download. You may want to make a copy of it onto an 8gb USB stick or DVD as it could save you another big download in the future.
    To do this quit the installer before running it as it self-deletes on successful installation. (Once the download is complete you are prompted to click on the 'install' button - it's at this point you quit. The file is downloaded to your Applications folder as a file called 'Install OS X Mavericks').
    Some people make a bootable disk of the installer - this can be easily done using Diskmaker X:

    Since there is no "Software Update", you are not yet up to iOS 5.  That is where that feature was introduced.
    So your only choice is to use iTunes to update your software.

  • 3 Dead Pixels after Blue Screen crash, should I make another Genius Bar appointment?

    Ok, so yesterday I made a GB appointment, after a friend told me to, when I showed him that I had a dead pixel on my phone's screen. So when I got to apple, I showed them the dead pixel and they told me they were going to replace the screen on the phone. It turned out that the machine they use to do so, was down, so they ended up giving me a replacement phone. So I checked it out at the store and it looked fine. So now today, while running some errands, my new replacement iPhone had crashed and turned blue, then rebooted on me & a few moments after when I got back on the phone and was imessaging, I noticed 3 dead pixels instantly (one on right under the names of the contact on the message, on the J key on the board and to the middle-right where your send messages are displayed)
    Now I'm thinking that, because my originally iPhone had crashed and turned blue also and I noticed the one dead pixel on it that same day, that the blue screen crashing could possibly be causing this??
    Should I go back to the apple store and tell them what happened?

    (Update) the pixels actually all seem to be red, whenever I go on a yellow screen and I just noticed a fourth one.    I think I should take my phone in

    ok... so i i just made sure all my music is all together in 1 folder and i am going to trash my old music folder that is in the itunes folder... and follow your directions - let itunes start w/new library and bring my music in. Well, last little hurdle/question. I noticed that the place where my itunes library is - on an external drive doesnt have much space left on it. The place where i gathered all my music together in order to start fresh - is a different external drive and has LOTS of free space on it.
    SO... i now would like to just keep all that freshly compiled clean music right where it is but in advanced preferences I want to point to that new folder on the drive that has so much more space. So... should i delete the old music then go into itunes with a blank library and change the folder in preferences - quit and go back in and then follow your steps to loading my music? If i change the setting of where itunes looks for the music - that doesn't wipe out the old stuff... it just mixes it all up together right? I dont want that!!
    i promise this is the last question - i would love to fix this problem tonight and just be DONE!

    You'll have to connect to another computer in order to restore. But do this first before you connect, in order not to erase your device.
    Make sure the new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.

    Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
    Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.

    If you're going to use it only with Macs, use Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's the fastest filesystem to use on Macs.
    If you're going to use it with PCs and Macs, use exFAT or FAT. I recommend exFAT because it hasn't got limitations as FAT and it's faster, but you need Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later to use it on PCs

  • Still having a hard time with "search" driven new support site.

    I am still having a very hard time using this new support site. It is extremely confusing. Confusing is frustrating.
    I've looked at the Tutorials and User Tips. While the User Tips have often been helpful, overall I feel like the Tutorials especially is like getting a 5 page pamphlet on how to fly a jet plane. Top level overview. Not detailed enough.
    It shouldn't be so difficult - it's overly complicated to use this new site. It should be intuitive. It's not.
    My biggest issue is that this forum seems to REQUIRE a user to KNOW a priori what the user is looking for so that a SEARCH can be done. It seems to have no "browse" friendly features such as categories. And it's missing those ambient indicators such as the partially filled light blue dots on the old forum that showed in a nano second what threads were new, had updated posts, or were already read.
    The new site seems geared to take one down a rabbit hole with SEARCH too because it's constantly suggesting very OLD content that's not relevant.
    If you don't SEARCH and use just the right terms and know exactly how to set up some sidebar, toolbar, RSS feed, bookmark, email notice, etc etc etc. it's almost impossible to find things on purpose or accident or to know when a thread is updated.
    On the old forums, when I would post a question for myself I made a point to browse for threads where I might be able to help someone else. I have no idea how I could do that now.
    I now dread having to use the forums. I can't seem to help myself by finding existing answers in prior posts, help myself by keeping up with my own posts (since I can't tell what's new/updated) and I can't help others.
    It would be great if some kind of organization and structure could be put in place to help make this support site browse friendly.

    Hi, Gordon: I would guess we have a few hundred at the most. I have only entered about 20. Most of the entries are retail stores we sell wholesale to, and contractors we sell at contractor prices, but we also have a retail trade of customers and that is going to increase a lot when we open our new show room in a few months.
