What size amp do i need i have no idea

i just bought 2 12in Power Acoustk Fubar 1800w (800rms) dual 4ohm voice coil
now i have no idea what #'s im looking for when looking to buy an amp so if someone can help me out
give me some names of amp's
or give me #'s that i should'nt go below or exceed or whatever
ok thanks

since these subs are 4 ohm DVC, you only have 3 ways to wire them. First is a 16 ohm load (not recommended), this is accomplished by wiring both voice coils per sub in series then the two subs in series. Second is a 4 ohm load (recommended but will be expensive). This is accomplished by 2 ways, wiring the Voice coils in parallel making each sub 2ohm, then wiring both subs in series to create 4ohm total or just the opposite, wiring the voice coils in series to 8ohm each then the subs together in parallel for 4ohm final load.  Lastly these DVC subs can be wired for a 1 ohm load. Not many amplifiers out there are 1 ohm stable and the only one that best buy carries is a the rockford fosgate P1000-1BD which is 1000w stable at 1 ohm. Long story short the least expensive way to go about this would probably be a fat 4 ohm amp. Im not quite on the up and up with every amplifier out there but from what i can see, the alpine mrp-2000 (retails for 699) would do 2000w @ 4ohm and your going to be needing 1600w RMS for both subs... good luck man lol... its expensive hooking up 2 DVC subs together

  • What size external hard drive needed for Time Machine?

Can someone offer advice? What size external hard drive do I need to back up my system with Time machine? Hard drive is 232 GB but I'm only using 40 GB of the 232.
    Thanks.

    beach bum51,
Hard drive space is cheap, so I'm going to recommend that you get something with at least 500 GBs capacity. 500 GBs would be twice the capacity of your internal, which is apparently the "recommended" size, so I have no hesitation recommending it. The larger the drive, the lower the cost per GB.
What's not so cheap is speed. You'll be happiest with a drive capable of using the fastest bus provided by your computer. If your iMac has a Firewire 800 port, you'll get the best experience from using that port, and a drive that will use Firewire 800 transfer speeds.

  • What size/quality photograph is needed when the desired end result is to print as a 17X22 poster?

I am new to photoshop and need to understand what size and/or quality (color type?) the original photo has to be in order to be able to eventually print the image as large as 17X22 for posters.

Keep in mind viewing distances typically increase as images get larger, unless the image is for a special purpose and is expected to be viewed with a magnifier or from a closer distance than typical.  A common rule of thumb is to assume the image will be looked at from no closer than its diagonal measurement.
This is just a swag, but at 17 x 22 you may want 150 to 250 ppi (pixels per inch) to be able to get a pretty nice, crisp print that stands up to reasonable scrutiny.  Most modern digital cameras will yield an image more than sufficiently detailed for this, and there are upsampling and sharpening techniques that can make even an image somewhat lacking in pixel count look very good at that size.
Look into Perfect Resize (used to be Genuine Fractals) as one such tool.
Also, conversion of a raw image in Adobe Camera Raw directly to a pixel count higher than the camera's native photosite count is an option, followed by more aggressive sharpening.  I use this technique myself with very good results.  Generally speaking, if your computer is up to it it's a good idea to work on images at a higher resolution than you'll need for their final use.
Assuming you're going to use raw image processing, I recommend also converting into a wide gamut color space - e.g., ProPhoto RGB, and using 16 bits/channel to edit your images.  If you don't do your own prints, down convert to the recommended color space and format for whatever print house you choose to use (e.g., 8 bit sRGB JPEG).

  • I updated my iTunes as it asked me to and restarted the computer but iTunes gives me a corruption error and it downloaded a PC speed maximizer on my computer.  I have no idea what this new software is and I have no idea how to get iTunes to work.

I updated my iTunes as it asked me to and then restarted my computer but iTunes would not open as it said it was corrupted.  In addition as I was downloading the new iTunes a PC speed maximizer was downloaded onto my computer and I have no idea what for.

  • Need help- have no idea how to install original airport on G3 Powerbook

I just bought an ornignal airport card on ebay. I have no idea how to install it (i think it goes under the keyboard, but specifically where?) also, it didn't come with any software...do I need some kind of driver? I am so confused. All I know is that I spent over $100 for this thing and would love it if I could get it to work. Really want to go wireless...can anyone please help. (already checked all over the support page and called apple and asked them to point me in the right direction, but have gotten no where. thanks in advance.

    Thea,
I get the impression you cannot return the AirPort card...this would be my first choice. Since the card is not recognized, either the card is bad or your powerbook has a hardware issue (doubtful).
Do you have an Apple Store nearby?
You might also contact your local User Group...there should be good help available:
    http://www.apple.com/usergroups/
    Your alternatives are these:
    - find another original AirPort card (limited to the slower 11Mbps speed) to try;
    - remove the internal AirPort card and buy a one of these wireless PC cards that run at the faster 54Mbps speed and are simply inserted in the PCMCIA card slot on the side of the 'book:

The above cards have the Broadcom chipset that Apple's AirPort software supports. If you have already installed AirPort 3.1.1, you are ready to go.

  • What does "each JMS server needs to have its own unique store" mean?

Does this mean that each JMS server needs it's own table? I found this info here:
              http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=200022411&tstart=0
I'm attempting to find the root cause of why we're crashing the OS on a highly clustered (14 managed server) implementation whenever a JMS queue (through BEA's JMS JDBC Store) is being hit.
              Thanks!

JDBC stores must be configured to use different database tables (by configuring a different "prefix" for each). Otherwise, they will corrupt each-others data. But I've never heard of this causing an O/S crash. Perhaps you are using native code JDBC drivers that have problems. You might want to try switching drivers, or even simply try switching from JDBC stores to file stores (temporarily) to see if that fixes the problem. You might want to check if you're using a supported JVM, etc. I'm curious about what versions of O/S, driver, JVM, and WebLogic are you using.

  • What size HDD do you need for Time Machine is it the size of iMac HDD?

Ok, looking to buy iMac, to use Time machie do you need the same size HDD that is in your iMac? ie Im looking at getting the 250Gb iMac, so do I need a 250Gb external HDD to use time machine?
I plan to also get a NAS drive so can time machine be used with this or do you need n external HDD attached direct to the iMac all the time to use time machine?
    cheers

so you can pick and choose what backup? eg Music, Pics, Docs, emails etc?
Yes you can choose everything or just parts.
does it compress stuff though to utilize the space better?
No, look here for more detail. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html
its not like a ghost image?
    Not that I know of.
so if the iMac had to be re-installed could you then reconnect the Time machine HDD and restore everything?
You could insert the Leopard disk and instead of doing a new install you could restore directly from the Time Machine Back Up. This depends on if you do a full back up or just parts of your system. Either way it is easy to recover your system using Time Machine.
Also if the external HDD is used for time machine is that all it can be used for? or can you also use it on other computers both Mac and PC?
It is best if you use Time Machine on a partition by itself. Then the other partition can be used for normal stuff.

  • What size partition do I need to install windows 8.1 & Bootcamp Question

Hello, I installed windows 8.1 on my MBA 128gb, I5, 8gb ram using bootcamp but I messed up and did not make the partition big enough. After the install of windows I only have 7.6gb left out of 30gb that I partitioned the drive to.
So how big of a partition should I make the bootcamp part. 40gb , 45gb ? I won't be doing heavy work on the windows partition.
Also can I use boot camp assistant to delete the windows partition and go back to one full Mac OX than do the Bootcamp install again from step one and start over with my windows 8.1 installation again ?
    Thanks

So endeed it took me an afternoon to resize and reinstall everythings. But at the end of the day i found the right space to use and never resize it then.
To conclude for Lenny7118, it is possible to resize your partition after the installation. But it's up to you to use the free way, which need time, or camptune.

I have better things to do with my time then spending half a day resizing a partition, but thanks.

  • A weird question perhaps??? But I need to have an idea!

    Greetings!
I plan to gift an iPod Touch or an iPhone,
However, in regard to the iPhone, I do not think that the immediate use would be registering with ATT for complete phone use.
I believe that both units iPod and WiFi (Internet access) capabilities would be of primary interest for now.
iPhone: has a camera, Maps app, etc... and of course iPod
iPod touch does not have a camera or Maps, but does have WiFi capability and of course full iPod functionality.
In the end, 399$ buys an iPhone/8gb, while it buys an iPod touch 16gb.
    A toss up of sorts.
Back to my question: can the iPhone be used w/o activation initially, pending possible switch to ATT phone service depending upon the area involved (the unit would be going to a predominantly semi rural Verizon area, with ATT available probably only on roaming basis)
Will appreciate advice/input on how to spend my 399 clams !
    - Roger T

Hey, thanks for the extremely prompt reply! After all, as you might suspect, time is of the essence this month!
Another thing then - as I am leaning twds the iPod touch:
I presume that the WiFi capabilities, along with Safari and other MacOSX components we are interested in are similar. Same for occasional upgrades/Safari MacOS? I also assume that Apple upgrades for features the two devices share will be similar?
I think I'll indeed focus upon the Safari/Wifi/Ipod capabilities of either device to make my decision.
    Thanks again!
