What size export to iDVD if source video is DV

I have an iMovie project that has source video in DV format.
I am exporting in order to create an iDVD project, but when I export using QT Pro, the settings there tell me the current size is 640 x 480. This has me confused because I was under the impression that DV is 768 x 576
Can anyone help please, what are the best export settings for importing to iDVD?

When you create a new project you have the option to set the frame rate. If you set it to 25 then it's good to go.
Yes it's 25
If you're sharing using media browser or export movie you should be able to set it either 640x480 or 720x540. If you export to QuickTime Movie you can set the proper size, 720x576.
Yes I can do that, but what is confusing me is when I set current size in QT pro (export using Quicktime), it tells me the current size is 640 x 480. How can that be when all my clips are DV?
It depends why you're exporting and where you're trying to get to.
I'm exporting so I can create a DVD in iDVD. I can't use the direct share to iDVD because it crashes iDVD all the time.
I'm wondering if somehow the iMovie project really has converted the DV clips down from 768 x 576 to 640 x 480. Which would be a drag and if so then I suppose I should export at that size. If not then presumably I should set it to 720 x 576 as you say rather than 720 x 540.
I must admit I've never quite understood the square pixel thing.
Thanks

  • What size should i make a web video in after effects?

    Hi,
I am creating a web product video but don't know what size i should make it. Thanks.

Where will the video be stored online?  Youtube?  On your own server?
How will it fit into the web page it's being displayed on?  Full screen?  In a little sidebar?
Will the video ever need to be distributed in any other way, like DVD or Bluray?

  • Edited video is exporting blurry as matched source, but looks great in the monitor before export?

I've pulled in 5 videos and clippled them up to create a 50 second reel showing short segments of each. The video is for an HTML 5 embed on a website so it's at an odd size (235x162).
Everything looks great when viewing the editable composition within Premiere (and I've tried this in After Effects as well), but when I go to export the video ends up blurry no matter if I match the source or fiddle with the settings.
I'm guessing something is going on due to sourcing from multiple video files that are in different wrappers and codecs? If so, why would I be able to edit so cleanly (and render in program), but cannot export at the same quality??
If it's the codec issue, what's the best format to convert all of these to if it's exporting to an HTML 5 video (if that last part even matters)?
Does anyone have experience with the best settings for exporting .mp4 h.264 for web use? I want to get this thing small in file size, but still good quality.
Here's a rundown of the imported videos I've been clipping up assuming its an issue with one of them (audio does not matter, we're not exporting it):
    MPEG4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
    Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC,  Progressive
    Quicktime MPEG-4, AVC, Progressive
    MPEG-4, AVC, Variable rate, Progressive
Quicktime MPEG-4, Sorenson 3, Not progressive but I'm not seeing what it is
    Thank you!

    Hi Collin,
Try 1 pass VBR instead of 2 pass VBR in the encoding settings.
    Hope that helps,

  • What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

    Hi!
I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
    FPS 23.98
    1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
    16 bit,
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?
    Thank You!

On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

    It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.
I posted the link before but here it is:

  • Whats the best settings for exporting a three camera youtube video on a mac book pro

I need help figureing out Whats the best settings for exporting a three camera youtube video on a mac book pro. I use 15 or 30 fps and aI cant figurwe it out [please help

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Mac?
Export your Timeline content to a .mp4 file, using export settings which have been customized under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the export's preset.
See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and .mp4 category. The exported file is then uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
If you post the properties of your source video and project settings, I will suggest the settings for the Timeline content export to file saved to the computer
hard drive for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site.

  • Exporting to iDVD - Max file size - Shorter bounce time

I put in markers on an iMovie project that I did in GarageBand 08. After I put the chapter markers in, I went to export to iDVD but keep getting error message "Maximum file size of 2 GB exceeded. Please choose a shorter bounce time. However, the GarageBand version of the project is only 1.18 GB. I tried to compact it down but it gives the same error message.
I tried finding out what is meant by bounce time and how to shorten it but the online manuals don't mention it at all. I've used the chapter markers before in GarageBand and I've never had this error message before.

Don't know if you ever found a solution to this… I just ran across the same identical problem. In searching the web I found this discussion which seems to be working for me. It involves disabling an advanced preference in iDvd.

  • I can't export to HD in Premiere Pro CC despite using HD source video and large format photos

I am trying to create a video slide show in PP CC using various sizes of photos and some HD source video footage and when I export the finished product the titles are murky, the photos are pixelated, and it looks HORRIBLE in general. I know in previous versions of PP you set the desired export quality when you created the video. I can't find a similar option in this version.

I was trying to export to a file. I tried multiple formats. Apparently, you no longer select the desired output when you create a project and Premiere based my outpu size on the first file I inserted. I am currently recreating the whole project, MASSIVE PAIN IN THE BUTT, but I inserted the HD video clips first and everthing seems to be going good now. I even did a test export to make sure. Lesson learned, start with the HD and work your way down.

What are the limitations regarding use of video in an iBook: length, file size, etc?

Total book size is 2.0GB max. Length would be relative to size based on quality.

  • What size when exporting files?

Im unclear about which choice to make when I'm exporting images (shot RAW)in Lightroom for
    1. back up purposes
    2. when I'm exporting images to DVD and taking it to a printer
Do I pick JPEG and if so what size resolution?
Or do I go with DNG?
    thanks
dorothy - using IMAC OSX 10.4.11

For backup, go for dng or RAW+XMP sidecar or use tiff or psd if you're worried about being able to read it in the future. For taking it to a printer or DVD, use jpeg and you'll probably have to scale down depending on the precise destination.

  • What size is a video file recorded with ipod touch 4g

just would like to know about what size would a one minute video recorded with the touch be, the same for a picture taken with it.  so i have an idea of which size ipod i should get.  of course, i'd like the 64gb, but right now i have a 32gb 1st gen touch loaded with 650 songs, 10 movies, photos and apps. it still has 18gb available.

Thanks, it would be safe to guess that a picture wouldn't be more than 3 MB.  So, I would think that for what I'll be using an iPod, another 32gb should be enough as long as I download the files to a computer periodically.

I and others answered a similar question only  yesterday.
There are also many other similar posts and it is advised we first check out "our"  problem by doing a search.
I also  suggest you download "iBookstore Asset Guide 5" its a pdf and contains all the  information you  ask for.

  • What is "Assign Source Video" and "Assign Source A1"

From time to time, on the very left of the timeline, there is another tab area that sometimes show "V" on the video track and "A1" on the audio track. When I right click on the area there will be a new option saying "Assign Source Video" and "Assign Source A1".
What is that? I look on the online help and couldn't find info on this.

    > Can someone please tell me exactly where it is explained in the docs?
Here are a couple of sections in the Help document that address track  targeting and source  channel mapping.
    > I remember when Adobe used to ship nice thick manuals with their
products. Now you have to pay extra for manuals in the form of
    "Classroom in a book"
The same information is available in the PDF Help document and the HTML Help document on the Web as was in the printed book. Actually, much, much more. We had a page-count restriction on the printed manuals. We don't have a page-count restriction on the PDF.
I've mostly worked on After Effects, but I've worked on  these books long enough to be able to say this: I wrote those big, thick books that you're talking about. And I swear to you that you get more pages, more information, and better information for CS5 than you ever got in one of those printed books.
You characterization of the Classroom in a Book is mistaken. Even when there was a printed Help document, there was also a Classroom in a Book (CiB). The CiB is a lesson-based guide for beginners, not a reference book. The CiB is made by a company other than Adobe. It and the Help have no relation to one another.

  • Flex4: Detect source Video size in VideoPlayer?

    Hi,
Is it possible in Flex 4's VideoPlayer control  (spark.components.VideoPlayer) to detect some attributes of the source  video?
In my case, it's a local file. I would need to detect the original  width and height of the input source video (an h264 f4v).
    Thanks

What a pain all this is
It's kind of like learning to ride a bike. There is some pain in the beginning. Once you learn most of the basics, like not putting only your right foot out and then leaning left, the rest comes pretty easily, and without much pain, unless you do something very wrong.
Trust me, it will get easier in time.
Once you get past those basics:
    1.) Project settings match Assets
2.) For SD, use DV-AVI Type II files
3.) Watch the PAR (4:3 vs 16:9) and learn how to handle the mixing, if necessary
4.) Have a system that can handle the workload
After that, things become a more simple and one can start to concentrate on the aesthetic aspects (keeping the technical aspects close at hand).
    Good luck,
    Hunt
