What size External HD for Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz with 250GB Internal HD

I am looking at getting the Macbook Pro 15-inch 2.4Ghz with 250GB Internal HD.
What is the minimum size External HD I need if I want to use Time Capsule with this machine?

The Time Capsule is Apple's Wi-Fi-enabled external HDD and is available in 500 GB and 1 TB sizes. I expect you mean Time Machine, which is Mac OS 10.5's included backup software.
There's no fixed 'minimum' size for Time Machine. I'd recommend getting a drive _at least_ as large as your internal drive. The larger the external, the more backups Time Machine will be able to store (i.e. the further back in time your backups will extend). You also have the option of partitioning the external drive.
If you plan on connecting the drive via a cable (i.e. not Wi-Fi) you'll get the fastest connection speed with a FireWire 800 external drive. Many drives have multiple interfaces (FW400, FW800, USB2) - one of those may be useful if you or someone else in your house ends up getting a Mac without FW (e.g. the newest MacBooks).

  • 24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?

I'm a video editor looking for a new laptop. Tough decisions, but these facts may help my decision...
Can I use my 24-inch Mid 2007 as external display for Macbook Pro Retina?
And if so, would the Macbook be able to access the external hard drives that are connected to the iMac? Or do the external hard drives have to be connected to the Macbook Retina?
Retina's picture quality is just incredible but compared to Macbook Pro non-retina you sacrifice: disc drive, port options, customization, anti-glare screen. And its more expensive. Arghh

I would use the retina as the primary screen for the canvas and viewer, while putting the browser and timeline on the iMac.
Apple won't help here. Unfortunately, they leave they're old products in the dust and wouldn't waste time writing an article about connecting a macbook retina to an '07 iMac.
Thank you for replying though Ralph. The answer has to be out there somewhere.

    souvikfromKolkata,
you’ll know as soon as the rest of us do if Apple decide to produce a new non-Retina model. My guess would be that they won’t do so, but that’s only a guess.
With Internet, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint representing your main usage, either a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air would be suitable for you.

  • Internal drive for Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina display from late 2013?

Hi everyone. After some water spillage to my new computer, the guys at the Apple Store have told me that my internal hard drive needs to be replaced. No other damage was done, thankfully. I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina Display from late 2013. The Apple genius said my current hard drive has flash storage, and that my new hard drive will need that as well as the computer requires it. Does anyone know where I can buy such a hard drive? Is it possible to buy it from Apple? I am happy to buy online or in a store (I live in Australia). Also, is this Mac Pro model difficult to take apart? I'd like to install the hard drive myself.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    From the specs:
    STORAGE AND MEDIA
    Storage
256, 512 GB, or 1 TB flash storage
    Media
    Optional Apple USB SuperDrive

  • What is the best external drive for Macbook Pro?

Migration Assistant is not moving files from my Macbook OS X 10.5.8 to My new Macbook Pro just purchased. Apple Support suggested I transfer thru an external drive. They suggested a 1 TB. They said it would be sufficient for migration and afterward for back up and storage of media and pics. What would be the best one for this purpose?
    Thank You

Go to OWC and purchase a drive and an enclosure. Put it together yourself. Takes about five minutes and a screwdriver. Or you can purchase one already complete from them if you prefer.

  • Best external monitor for macbook pro 15" to use for Aperture3

Hi, I have a macbook pro 15" running on Mountain Lion. I would like to buy an exernal monitor to work on Aperture 3. After reading on the net I am still quite confused as what is the best product to fit a good compromise for quality/price/compatibility
My budged is under 600€, so size should not exede 24".
Dell U2413 gets good and bad advise, not sure how it would work with Apple either. Most people talking about it are not on Apple products.
Any of you out there can offer some personal experience on the matter?
    Thank you for your time

Be very careful what you buy, and if at all possible test it with the computer before you buy it. A few times. These things just stop detecting external monitors for no reason sometimes, as well as just refusing to ever detect certain monitors.
Maybe someone here has a set-up that's working for them, that's your safest option.

  • External Monitor for Macbook Pro (Use for Audio)

    Hey
Well I have a Macbook Pro and am looking to get an extra monitor because I am an Audio Production major and need the space.
I'm looking for about 20-22 inch range and maybe one that swivels so it is horizontal or vertical.
Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks

  • External monitor for Macbook Pro MC723

Hi, I'd like to get a cheap (<£200) external monitor for my Macbook Pro MC723 ...
    1. Can I get any make of monitor or does it have to be an Apple?
    2. Which port Macbook Pro port would it connect to?
    3. Will I be able to use the monitor as a dual display, along with the macbook's screen?
    4. Do you have any recommendations?
    Many Thanks.

    1. Pretty much any make. Some monitors are MUCH better than others. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. There may be other monitors as good as Apple's 27" models, but I've never seen one better.
    2. The Thunderbolt port.
    3. Yes.
    4. Apple Thunderbolt display.

  • External Monitor for MacBook Pro 13"

Hello, I know there has been a number of threads on this topic, but I haven't found my answer yet.
I am looking for a third party external monitor for my 13" MacBook Pro. I read a lot of text on my computer so it is important that the text is sharp. I have tried a couple Samsung monitors so far and the text is far from sharp and in fact it is outright hard on the eyes.
Currently, I am using a 23" Samsung SyncMaster SA550 with a HDMI/MiniDisplay 6" cable, I am using it as the primary display with my laptop closed and the resolution is set to 1080p. It's almost as though the video card is not powerful enough to drive this monitor - is that possible?
    I have two questions:
    1) Is there anything I can do to get this monitor to display clearer text?
    2) Can anyone recommend a monitor that would display clearer text?
Thanks! Any info would be appreciated!

The only reason I thought of suggesting 1920x1080 was becaue I looked up the specs on your 23" Samsung SyncMaster SA550 and see it only has vga and hdmi input.  I suspect that because it's hdmi input the EDID info tells Displays to add 1080i and 1080p to the resolutions and suppresses the 1920x1080.  It's why I wasn't sure it would be there in the first place.
So have you tried 1080i just to see what kind of results you get?  And to cover all possibilities have you tried using the VGA connection?
It may just be that what you see on this particular monitor is as good as it gets.

  • Powerbook monitor as external display for Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I have a powerbook G4 and a newer Macbook Pro. Is it possible to use the display of the G4 as an external monitor for the MB Pro?
    Thanks

Try ScreenRecycler - seems like this will do what you need by tunneling through VNC instead of a direct video connection.

  • Recommended external display for MacBook Pro

    Hi
Searching for any recommendations for an external display for my Macbook Pro late 2011?
Looking for something fast enough for games, decent size ie 27" or more for no more than £400.
If I had more I would want a Thunderbolt display so looking for closet things to a Thunderbolt but for half the price? Anyone got any recommendations?
    Si

Any display will work. Go to the store and look at them.

  • Need Driver for external Monitor for Macbook Pro

Does anyone know where I can get a driver to utilize the output from my macbook pro to an external monitor?  It works great for my iOS but Windows 7 doesn't recognize any external monitor.

I've never seen an instance where an external monitor needed a driver.
What monitor? Did you download and install the Windows support software?

How do I go about connecting my 2006 MacBook Pro to an external monitor?

The one I'm trying right now is a Samsung SyncMaster 191T. I tried several days ago with a Samsung SyncMaster 930B and also the monitor from a Mac desktop. I've had the same issue with all 3 monitors.
Oh man. It should not fail on all three of those monitors, especially the Apple one. There aren't really any steps for you to miss, when you plug in an external monitor it should light up within seconds without having to make adjustments. I hope there isn't anything wrong with your MacBook Pro's video card, but of course that is something that can't be diagnosed easily in a forum.
