What Slows Up Computer in Displaying High Res Preview?

When I switch to preview mode, vector files with lots going on combined with large Photoshop files, for instance, take a long time to display. Is this because of RAM, processor speed or video display? Which of these systems is doing the work?

Upgrading the video card makes more sense than adding more RAM, but I doubt it will make enough difference to justify the expense. Consider setting the Display Performance to Allow Object Level Display and set these monsters to Typical instead of High Quality, and or make sure Live Screen Drawing is set to Delayed or Never, and/or turn off page thumbnails in the Pages panel, any of which should speed rendering. Turning off Live Preflight might help, too.

  • High res preview in iondesign cs5

    Hi Guys,
quick question, for some reason when selecting a image in indesign CS5 and ctrl click display performance, high quality nothing happens?
What are the default settings in the prefs so when I am working the graphics are medium res until I specifically ask for high res preview?
High Quality is pushed all the way up but the preview still looks pixelated?
    lister

There are two possibilities here. Perhaps the image is really low res at the size you are using it (waht doe the info panels say for effective resolution?), or maybe you don't have Allow Object Level Display Settings turned on.

  • How can I get iWeb gallery to display high-res images from iPhoto?

    Hi,
I'm trying to add high-res images to an iWeb gallery from iPhoto and cannot get the gallery images to display in high-res (downloaded photos are fine).  iWeb settings for importing unchecked for optimisation. Page in question: http://www.samuelboden.com/Samuel_Boden/Gallery.html
    Any ideas?

Since iWeb has been discontinued by Apple I'm skeptical if you'll get any help on how to hack the application in order to have larger images in the slideshow.  Since MobileMe will be discontinued this June 30 and with it the galleries you might stat looking for an alternative.
One alternative that gives the user considerable latitude in image size and quality is Jalbum.  It offers nearly 100 themes or skins.  This demo page has one theme that lets you change skins on the fly: Jalbum Examples plus a couple of others.

  • No high quality previews in Bridge under Version Cue

I posted this in the 'Bridge' forum but didn't get any responses... thinking maybe someone here might be able to help?
I've started to work with Version Cue, which seems like a useful idea.
However, within Bridge, when I preview a PSD file it shows a pixelated, low-res version. I have set the preferences to display "high quality previews" and purged the cache, restarted, etc. The previews for non-Version Cue files are fine.
For Illustrator files under Version Cue, the previews stay small - i.e. the same size as the thumbnails.
I really need to be able to view HQ previews in order to continue using Version Cue - anyone know how to make that happen?

    I was quite calm.
I've previously posted messages here and always had them answered within an hour or so, so that's why I wasn't sure if I'd posted in the correct forum. It's not that I expect "you" to answer me more quickly. Obviously this question falls between several different products, so I thought maybe I should have found a 'Version Cue' forum or something.
Sorry, I should have provided version details:
    Bridge version 2.1.1.9
    Version Cue version 3.1.0
    Running on OSX 10.5.4
It seems to me that one of the main uses of Bridge is to be able to use high quality previews to look through alternate designs. So if this doesn't work with Version Cue, which is all about controlling different versions of designs, that seems unfortunate.

  • 15" LED vs. 17" High Res Display

So I was wondering for those that have had a chance to visit and apple store and see both of these fine machines. Can you tell me if the 15" LED is brighter and move evenly lite the the new 17" high res display that used the old ccf tech? And if so is it a huge jump between the 2 as far as the brightness goes? I have been wanting a 17" for the longest time and I love the idea of having the extra screen space. But the the 15" from what I hear looks a lot brighter because of the led backlighting. Just looking for some feed back.

I have seen the 17" High Res and 15.4" LED models side by side, and while the LED looked very nice, I couldn't notice much difference between the two honestly, the models I saw look just as evenly lit, (as even some non LED displays, can be very very perfectly lit, my Fujitsu is a testament to that, why o why can't Apple use Fujitsu screens
the high res screen looked lovely, and if you need the larger size, definitely go for it. text size could definitely be an issue for some people, but any person with normal eyesight should be perfectly fine. the biggest worries I had was text size in Final Cut pro, and those type of Apps, and while it is smaller, it is still quite usable, and adjusting would not be too difficult.
and looking at Apples plans for Leopard, with resolution independence, having a High Res screen will no longer have any negatives, as long as the developers do their part, which they have no reason not too.
hopefully web developers will realize this soon too, while there are still a lot out there, I don't think I know many people that still have a computer without a wide format screen, basically any computer you buy nowadays is using a wide format, so hopefully the industry will freaking adjust soon!! they tend to work on percentages and all of that, so it should be coming soon.
Fujitsu/Mac Mac OS X (10.4.9) Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n)
and why can't someone make a decent browser that ends all the **** resolution dependence?? make developers build site that will work and adjust to whatever dimensions the user wants, that would not be extremely difficult and it would completely solve the problem.
it is nice to be able to adjust text size in a web browser, but when that larger text has to be in the same amount of space it just makes it more awkward to read.
go resolution independence!! by next July 4th!

  • Userform controls disappearing in Word 2013/Windows 8.1 with High-Res display - DLL error?

I have a .dotm file with a large number of modules and userforms. Creating new documents from the template works fine on almost every computer I've tested it on (hundreds), but I've run into a setup that fails consistently.
Two different Samsung ATIV 9's with a high res display and Windows 8 (64bit)/Office 2013 show the same problem:
When opening a new document based on the template for the first time, it works fine. If I open the VB editor, everything looks normal, userforms are intact.
On the second and all consecutive attempts, it throws a "Type Mismatch" error. Opening the VB Editor, I get a compile error on lines of code referencing components of the first userform (alphabetically). Opening that userform, it shows only a blank
multi-page control, and all the other controls are missing - hence the new compile errors on controls that used to exist. If I remove that userform and save the file, the project compiles, but opening a new document from the template will result in "Word
    has stopped working..."
I can actually reproduce this behavior starting from scratch - new blank document, save as a .dotm. Create a new userform and add a multipage control. Clicking any control in the toolbox to add it to the form will result in a "Type Mismatch" error,
even though there's no VBA code. I can then successfully add the control to the form. But, once I save and reopen the template, the multi-page control is blank, and the other controls I put on it disappear.
I at one point got an error from the VB Editor that it "could not open macro storage" and the included help suggested that might be due to an incorrect version of vbe7.dll.
The only copy of vbe7.dll I could find was at:
    c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7.1
    The dll version was 7.1.10.44
I tried replacing that file with a vbe7.dll file from a working computer (version 7.0.15.89 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\VBA\VBA7), but that just resulted in the VB editor not loading at all.
I have tried both a 32bit Click-to-run version of Office 2013, and installing off a CD with 64bit Office 2013, both had exactly the same error.
The reason I'm wondering if it's a high-DPI display related error is that googling about vbe7.dll errors, I came across this hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880496/en-us
which claims it "Fixes various Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) issues with displays on high-DPI devices."
Neither the 32bit or 64bit installer for that hotfix would run, they said there was no affected programs installed.
My reasoning for suspecting a hardware/DLL incompatibility is this:
    1) It's not the template or the VBA code, since those work elsewhere and the same behavior happens with any file with a userform
    2) It's not the Office version, since both 32/64 bit, MSI and Click-to-run didn't work
    3) It's not Windows 8.1, since this same template works fine on other machines
    4) The first time I open the template on the affected machines, it works fine - but the template is shipped compacted and decompiled. After I open it once and then close, Word has compiled the code and corrupted it somehow, because whatever the first userform
was in the list shows up as blank.
    5) It feels hardware-specific, since out of hundreds of machines, I've only seen this behavior on two of the same laptop model - seems like too much of a coincidence.
Is there any chance the VBE in Office 2013 is somehow incompatible with this hardware? If that might be the case, does anyone have any idea how I'd go about testing and/or fixing it?
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59861.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  If you see an entry for IDT HD Audio ( or very similar IDT entry ), right click the device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.  If there was no IDT entry, just proceed below.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Does attaching an external display slow the computer?

I have never used an external monitor with my MB Pro. The one I have was purchased July 09 and has the 2.53 CPU. If I attach and external monitor will it noticeably slow down? Would it matter which monitor I used? Looking a MacMall today I see the Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display ($869) is said to work with the MB Pro. Pricey. Perhaps there is a cheaper option.
    Thanks,
    Richard

Basically... this is the case with any LCD display. An LCD display is made with a set number of individual pixels which is what the resolution means (e.g. 1,024 x 768 means 1,024 pixels x 768 pixels). This is known as the "native resolution". You can not display higher resolutions than the native resolution (as the pixels just aren't there). You can display resolutions that are lower however. When you do this however, the display has to "simulate" the lower resolution. For example, if your display's native resolution is 1,024x758 but you want to display a resolution of 640x480, the display will try to expand the 640x480 resolution to fill your entire display. This is similar to taking a wallet size photo and blowing it up to fit an 8 1/2 x 11" picture frame. LCD displays have traditionally had problems with the quality of displaying resolutions other than their native. While they have gotten better, an LCD display still provides the best image at it's native resolution.

  • High Res/ Anti-glare display vs. New Retina

I bought (via Apple Hong Kong) my beefed-up 15" MPB with the High Resolution/ Anti Glare display last November and the quailty is outstanding.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

if you have the att device, then use your att locker.
ANYONE can sign up for the att locker here:
    https://locker.att.net/app/#welcome
even if you do not have ATT service, you should sign up NOW.
There is an application that is pre-installed to allow for the 1020 to upload the full resolution files to the AT&T locker.
AND, because they are launching the 1020, they are giving a free upgrade to the account to the 50GB box instead of the 5GB.
they are doing this for a limited time only, I have created a couple of accounts.
after you create your account, it will have to be verified. after you check your email and verify the box, log back in and you will see it is only a 5gb account.
click on "my Account/upgrade" and choose the 50GB and you should see it say FREE under the cost.
then you can upload the full res pictures and share them that way.
otherwise, if you are within reach, try Bluetooth transfer.

  • Firefox.exe uses too much memory slowing the computer down, what can be done?

This doesn't happen every time I am using the browser, maybe half of the time. When it does happen it takes a long time for it to clear up. It can slow the computer down even after I have exited out of the program, maybe still not responding because of high memory usage. Is there anything I can do to get Firefox to run smoothly?

Some updates are better handled by Internet Explorer or the built-in updater, such as any updates from Microsoft's Windows Update or Office Update systems. (These systems are not compatible with other browsers.)
You can use the "all systems" page to download a full installer and then copy it over to your XP system.

  • Poor image display in CC Bridge with high-res monitor

I have recently upgraded to CC (Windows 8) and also added a high-res monitor (3840 x 2160 @ 185 ppi).  However, the display of the RAW images in Bridge Preview is fuzzy and JPEGgy looking.  If I put the loupe over some text in Preview, the larger louped area of text is tack sharp, while the smaller Preview display is fuzzy.  I read that CC supports high res monitors (HiDPI support).  Am I missing something, or need to change some settings to sort this issue?

I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.
