What software comes closest to performing tasks like I could do on the Appleworks drawing program ?

What software is available for MacOSX that comes closest to performing like the old Appleworks drawing program?

Maybe Apple's iWork, or more specifically Pages - part of a package of three apps (Pages/Numbers/Keynote).
I never used Appleworks but Pages has some drawing tools for lines/boxes/circles/stars, etc. as well as a tool for freehand shapes. It will also open Microsoft Word files and Pages files can be exported in Word format.
Numbers is akin to Microsoft's Excel and will open Excel files and also export as Excel.
Keynote is an excellent app for presentations - a competitor to PowerPoint. Again it'll open PowerPoint files and export them.
Finally - I'm not 100% on this so hopefully someone else will chime in - but I believe Pages will open AppleWorks files.
iWork is available from the Mac App Store. The apps can be bought individually if you don't need all of them.

* despite Apple's TV Adverts both Microsoft Office and iWorks are both limited time trials. AppleWorks is still available for sale separately but is not optimized for Intel processors so has a limited life span. Therefore a proper word processor is no longer bundled with the iMac at all. Only the very basic TextEdit will allow you to type letters etc. You'll have to pay extra if you want more; so you could buy Word or Pages. Personally I'd recommend NeoOffice (link) which is a free download and unlike Microsoft Office is Intel native and compatible with Office2007.

As I said the iTunes program on the computer. You open iTunes on the computer and go to the View menue in the upper rightand then click on preferences. Go to Devices and delete the backup.

Two thoughts:
(1)     It is possible that your Adobe software was the result of belonging to a now-discontinued Adobe Print Service Provider program where for a certain annual membership fee, print service providers were provided with (a) both a Windows and Macintosh license to the Adobe print-oriented software products (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat) and (b) special direct product support as well as the ability to put your name on Adobe's website as a member of this program. The program ended over a year ago if I remember correctly.
(2)     You may wish to contact Adobe Customer Support (not Technical Support) and see if they can track down any and all licenses associated with your company. If you have the names of the former employees who worked with this software, it would be helpful. Likewise, if you were a member of the discontinued Adobe Print Service Provider program, you may have some options for upgrading/updating the software you have.
Unfortunately, you cannot get any more definitive information about your situation on these forums.

What software comes with MacBook?

Can someone tell me what software disks come with the Black MacBook? The page on the Apple page shows 1 DVD system disk and the iLife 06 Disk. Do you actually get the iLife disk or is it incorporated into the system disks?

Just got a MacBook 1 June-- and I have the SuperDrive-- would like to back up the 2 DVD's that came with it. But, no luck.
1. The DVD Disc 1 seems to have everything on it-- Disc 2 just has a Readme telling me to insert DVD Disc-1. Strange...
2. DVD Disc-1 says it has 4.73 gb capacity but that 149 mb unused. OK but when I make a MASTER DISC IMAGE .cdr and try to burn a TEK 4.7 gb blank DVD I get the message "not enough space on your DVD"...
I am truly a bit perplexed-- can't imagine this is a double-sided DVD (it is printed on one side!)-- although the Disc-2 says it has "8.7 gb" of capacity (but just using 81 mb...)
Any comments here would be really appreciated. I thought moving from an 800 kb diskette to a 1.4 mb diskette 12 years ago was heaven; and now 4.7 gb doesn't seem to be large enough...

Adobe does not list what software comes with complete plan

All it says under the "complete" plan for $599 a year is Photoshop, Illustrator, and more..... I specifically need Photoshop for my new PC & After Effects and I can't get a complete list of what is included to save my life! Anyone "join" the complete CS package and can tell me what software is included?

I have received a disk of photos which are avi files, what software do I need to download to be able to view the slideshow and save them within i-photo please

Having had some photos done at a photographers, they have passed me the disc of the slideshow, which is in avi format, however I cannot view it on my imac, I would be really grateful if someone could advise me what software I need to download that is compatible with the imac whereby I can view the slideshow and also whether I can then save the slideshow to iphoto. Hope you can help, I am not great with technology as you can probably guess.

I use Smart Converter which is free on the App Store. It is easy to use , just drag and drop the files to convert to Quicktime , takes no time and great results.

Facebook Like Button - Could not find the linked file ....

I have a question:
I have downloaded the Facebook Like Button (https://www.facebookbrand.com/), in AI format, and, when I open it in Illustrator CS6 *trial version*, I get: "Could not find the linked file "likeicon_7-17a.ai". Choose Replace to select another file, or Ignore, to leave the link unchanged".
If I click "Ignore", the file is displayed, without the "thumbs-up" icon.
Why does it do this?
The only "ai" file in the archive is the entire logo. There is no "likeicon_7-17a.ai".

the file is constructed poorly.
You could download the thumbsup.ai file and then simply copy/paste it to the like button file.

Just installed Arch, can't perform tasks like useradd/pacman [Solved]

Followed the Beginner's Guide step by step. I'm now on the 'Extra'. However I'm running into problems doing anything. The first thing I tried to do was change user password. I got 'Authentication token lock busy'. Tried to add user and got 'cannot lock /etc/passwd/'
I figured out that I could go back into the initial setup, remount the drives, and chroot and then change password/add user. Then - as the guide says- I unmounted them and rebooted.
Now I can't install sudo. I get 'failed to innit transaction: unable to lock database' 'could not lock database: read only file system'
my /etc/fstab says sda1 rw which I thought meant that it was write-able
I can't do pacman -Syy for the same reasons, however I can do it when I chroot and mount from the setup
I followed the Beginners' Guide line by line I believe. But somewhere after unmount and reboot, it quits working.

I'm sorry. This is my very first time ever using linux, so I don't fully get what you're saying about read only root.. I'm not sure what the problem is. I can and did useradd/pacman when I was installing. I finished the install section. I cannot now do the first step on extra.

TS4108 I have recently done a software update on my phone, when complete I could not get the phone to work and the icon showed I had to connect to I-tunes. I then lost some recent data and photos. If they are backed up to the cloud how do I recover them?

When I completed my last software update directly on my phone I didn't realise I would then be prompted to do and I-tunes update that would wipe my phone. There seemed to be no turning back so I lost some data and photos. I'm assuming these will be backed up to the cloud but have no idea how to retrieve them.

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it to your phone as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521. If you have a backup on your computer instead, restore it to your phone by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup.

What reaction, if any, can we expect from Verizon in regards to the T-Mobile program to pay early cancellations fees? (This is sort of a 2-part question)

A brief rundown here...over the last 7 or 8 years, I've had 2 carriers, T-Mobile, with whom I was pretty happy and then Verizon for the majority of that time, due to a friend of mine working there. He is no longer with the company, however. Here's the dilemma. Today, I managed to slam my Samsung Brightside in a car door (jacket pocket, jacket not all the way out) and the sole redeeming feature of that otherwise useless phone is that it took repeated drops to the floor really well. I have probably dropped that thing more than my previous 4 phones combined and maybe squared.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that the Brightside is no longer under the 12 month warranty and it doesn't look like I really have any good options here, aside from trying to hunt down a used one and suffering through another year of a phone I increasingly detest. If I have to get a smartphone, I may as well look at making a move to whoever is going to charge me less for services fees, etc. and right now that is T-Mobile. The basic questions here are: is Verizon going to get to be price competitive and for my particular situation, what can Verizon do for me specifically?
I will be in a Verizon store tomorrow, but a few of the deals that are attractive seem to also be internet only. I am looking to be back in order tomorrow, one way or the other, as my phone is not really functional at all, so if anyone at Verizon has some answers or solutions to keep me in the house of Big Red, I'd love to hear them...quick.

Well first off unless you had the supplement insurance verizon will not replace a phone broke in a car door. That is physical damage and is not covered.
At present you can use if qualified the device payment plan which is full price spread out over 12 months with so much down and the rest paid over the year. There is a $2 fee per month for this plan. However if you have unlimited data etc on the plan now you keep it. That is a plus for many customers.
You can use the edge plan, you pay so much and after a certain time frame after paying half the phone cost you can trade in the phone and get a new super doper phone, again you pay so much down and can do this over and over. However if you have unlimited data you lose it. The cost of data is very expensive and read the posts here about problems with actual usage versus what was never used before.
Or you can pay full price for the device or get another device from a friend or buy a cheap device from a place off the net.

I taped for 6 hours, 5hours downloaded to imovie, 6 stopped at 1:01 minutes and showed error 36, does anyone know what is going on. Contacted apple and they could not find the answer.

I taped for 6 hours, which became 6 chapters. 5 downloaded, the sixth keeps stopping at 1:01 minutes, imovie stops responding.
It taped to full capacity.
How can I get the final hour downloaded?

Perhaps there's remnants of that App you're not aware of... what was it?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

What do i do when my itunes says itunes could not restore the ipod "ashley's ipod" because backup session failed. my ipod will not sync any songs and freezes my itunes. this has all started since i had updated it. are there any solutions on how tofixthis?

Try moving the existing backup file to a save location and try again. It is located here:

I have application where I acquire data from sensors using stain gauge and thermocouple modules with 6225M DAQ card. Also I am writing some data that i get from a joy stick to a serial port in the same application. In order to run executable file of this application what software do I need? I installed labview runtime engine in the target machine but it didn't run my program. Do I need to install any drivers for the DAQ card? i am using labview 8.6.

Of course you need to install the DAQmx driver. If you have LabVIEW 8.x, when you create the installer, you have the option to install different versions of the driver ranging from a full install to a minimal one. If you have tasks saved in MAX, you would want to install MAX and export your current config. Then select to have the installer import the config on the pc with the exe.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
