Afraid they don't have anything to replace DVD SP. Your alternatives are Adobe Encore (which is EOL) or Toast, or IDVD (which can still be found in boxed sets of iLife).
But getting back to DVD SP and your data transfer, what do you mean by that? What exactly did you do and what happened with the application? I'm running it on 10.7 and it works, but it's from the FCS3 suite; is yours FCS2?.

  • Have they replaced DVD Studio Pro?  I can't find it in the Apple Store.

My new computer needs FCP and DVD Studio Pro.

    Hi
And there are at least three working - but in a way very simple options from Apple still
    • FinalCut Pro X - can make simple Video-DVDs
    • Compressor™ - also for (as I get it - simple but very good .mpg2 codes - few menu's)
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
But that's all from Apple today
iDVD and DVD Studio Pro - was so much better !
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen, 5 years old, has short battery life. Can the battery be replaced? If not, does apple have a replacement program? how much?

    Details:
5 year old 2nd Gen Ipod nano only works for an hour the most. Battery may be approaching end of life.
Can this still be replaced? if not, what are my options? Does apple have a replacement program?

Just would like to share with you, my experience with a friend's Nano with a smiliar problem
The battery level could be too low to boot up the OS of the iPod, which even may corrupted (if you see a folder icon).
The best way to fix it, is to connect it with different device other than your PC as it is likely not get charge at all, e.g.
    1. car charger
    2. ac charger
    3. ipod speaker dock system
    4. using firewire cable
    5. with a Mac computer
The key is to charge the battery level up to the minimum for you to put your Nano into disk mode
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
once you see the "tick" mark, connect it with a computer, and try to do a Restore for your iPod. In case you still do not manage to get your iPod to be recognized by a PC, I am afraid you have to connect it with a Mac, very likely it will allow you to do a Restore as I did last night

  • Does apple have to replace  magsafe

hi i recived a fake charger with my macbook pro which was bought off ebay the charger sometimes works and some times doesnt

You will have to go to an Apple store or the Apple on-line store and buy an Apple charger that is correct for your MacBook Pro.  Apple will not replace a fake charger you received when you bought something from an eBay seller.

  • Does DVD Studio Pro max out at 100 chapters?

I have been told that 100 chapters is the most you can have in a DVD Studio Pro project. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks in advance for your input and your time.

If I'm adding a slideshow to my project and have 180 photos I assume I need to create 2 slideshows? Each photo is a chapter when you convert it to a track.
I'm new to DVD Studio Pro and none of my menu photos or slideshow photos appear in the Viewer. Why can't I see the photos? They appear in the Menu, Assets and Slideshow column but don't appear in the Viewer or Simulator. I'm obviously missing s step somewhere. I only do slideshows because I'm a still photographer. I'm moving from iMovieHD and iDVD to DVD Studio Pro 3. My photos are 300dpi and 3000x2400 which is not 4:3 ratio. I need to recrop for DVD.
Any suggestions (read the manual)? I did buy DVD Studio Pro - 101: Mastering DVD Studio Pro but it doesn't help with trouble shooting or setup. I apprecaite any help. -Roger

  • Missing DVD Studio Pro 4 templates, shapes, etc...

I recently had a hard drive meltdown, and had to install a new internal HD. I reinstalled all my software and everything works great except DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3
I've tried re-installing three times and no matter what I do, all default templates, shapes, text, and buttons are missing.
I'm still running on OS X 10.4, so it's definitely not an issue with Leopard.
Does anyone know what is going on? I even updated and they still won't show up.
Is there anyway to re-install these missing elements?
    PLEASE HELP!

SOLUTION: After an unbelievable number of hours trying to resolve this "missing templates" situation with DVD Studio Pro 4.2 I finally found the problem (bug?). The choose feature in "preferences" is broken. Apple's instructions tell us to go to the preferences, Destinations, Palette Elements, and set the following path:/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro which, as you probably already know, does not work. Reinstall doesn't work either. Nothing works.
    This is what DOES work.
You need to MANUALLY enter the "drive name" into the selection box "after" you have selected the correct location, i.e. after I made my selection the following came up in the entry box, /Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. The problem is that the "choose" process did not automatically include the drive name. After adding the name, in this case, "Boot 1," the entry box then read, Boot 1/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro. Everything loaded and remained in place. After I restarted DVDSP to reassure myself it was working and found everything to be OK, I went to the preferences and to my dismay I found the entry had changed to:
/Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro/Apple. NOTICE, I did not have "/Apple" in my original destination and the entry I made, "Boot 1," was conspicuously missing. I recall previously trying the path with "/Apple" included and it wouldn't work. The only thing that made a difference was adding the drive's name. I hope this helps everybody with this problem.

  • The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.
    Thanks,

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
    • Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
    • Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Like chapter markers, compression markers force I-frames at their location, although in this case it is for better quality encoding, and they are not used to create a chapter list.
Note: When you export a QuickTime movie, you have an option to export various kinds of markers, including compression, chapter, or DVD Studio Pro markers. *When you choose to export DVD Studio Pro markers, Final Cut Pro actually exports chapter markers and all compression markers.* This includes compression markers you set manually, as well as ones created automatically by Final Cut Pro at edit and transition points."

  • How do I make my DVD playable in DVD Studio Pro?

I never use to have problems with DVD Studio Pro until I got my new MacBook Pro.
I'm making a wedding DVD with a couple menus and projects and it seems to all work just fine.
I only encouter a problem when I go to check to DVD after it is done buring.
When I pop it in both a DVD player and the computer, nothing happens. It says the disk is unreadable or nothing at all happens.
I'm not sure what to do because I don't even know what is wrong.
DVD Studio Pro isn't telling me anything is wrong and that it is buring just fine.
I have also tried multiple different exported versions of my projects and nothing has imporved or even changed.
Any tips on how to make my DVD playable?

Did you do a build and format? If so, check out the contents of the TS folder.
Often people report similar problems and it turns out they inadvertently made an HD DVD…though I would think it should play in your Mac if that were the case. But check your settings nonetheless.
Are you doing the encode in Compressor?

  • Is DVD Studio Pro dead?

(I posted this at the Final Cut areas as well)
So Final Pro X has been released and there's not a word about DVD Studio Pro anywhere.
Does this mean it has been dropped, or won't be updated anymore?
My suggestion is for Apple to sell DVD Studio Pro as a standalone app (once again) on the App Store. I believe it's still valid and has some life in the future. I have sent this request to Apple feedback, and suggest that anyone who agrees with me should do the same.
Does anyone else care about DVD Studio Pro anymore?

I'm with you all DVD Pro IS a great app and dropping the ball with Blu-Ray was the first mistake. (The other is not sticking a Blu-Ray burner in the MacPro by default.
Now I love Apple as much as the next man but there not interested in pros any more. They want the hip kid ipod image. They want to be cool. They want to churn out Idiot style apps for the masses.
But look at the history of the AXE!
    Xserve RAID - Dead
    Shake 4 - Dead
DVD Studio Pro - (Lets face it Dead)
    Final Cut Server - (Dead)
    Xserve - (Dead)
Final Cut Pro - (Dead - cos lets face it FCP X is really a downgrade or an iMovie update)
And if you look at most other companies the good stuff starts on the high end stuff and filters down to the low end.
    But not apple
iPhoto has had faces and the like before aperture
the imacs get Thunderbolt before the MacPros
And worst of all there trying to turn the MacOS into iOS.......
    God help us all!
It's lucky foe Apple that Windows is still S**t.

  • How can I burn an iMovie project in DVD Studio Pro?

I created a DVD in iMovie for a friend, then burned the disc with iDVD. When I play it on my home DVD player it looks and sounds fine - but when he plays it on his DVD player, it looks fine but the audio is poor and echoes a lot. I looked at his setup, and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS - however I have never used this program and need some help figuring it out.
Is it possible to take the project that I created in iMovie and burn it in DVD Studio Pro so that it would be compatible with a DTS setup? I would need very specific steps to doing this because I have never used DVD Studio Pro before.

and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS
iDVD creates DVDs with uncompressed audio (PCM). DVDSP (FCStudio) has no DTS conversion capabilites, just Dolby Digital (AC3).
I think that your friend DTS system must play stereo PCM too; you could check in its documentation.
What I do know is that DVDs with uncompressed audio (we are talking about computer created and burned ones in particular) can be difficult to play fine in some players because the high bitrate.
I'm not an iMovie expert but as far I remember you can export your movie from there as high quality video (you must get a QuickTime movie with same settings that your footage) and convert it to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio using Compressor, and finally importing those assets to DVDSP.
    I hope this help !

  • Novice DVD Studio Pro user - need few tips

    Hi,
I've started with a task of creating a simple DVD with DVD Studio Pro 4. Task that has been shown a bit over my head for now.
Recently I created a DVD with iDVD and it worked nicely, but I wanted more hands on approach. I was supprised that DVD studio cant accept .m4v files and MPEG2 files. But in the program specs, in the Import FAQ section it says it can. So I don't know what video file to use.
Here are my biggest concerns when creating this DVD.
I have one menu. I have set a background photo for it, its 1920x1080 for 1080 HD video.
Should I go with max HD video, or use Standard Definition video instead?
I have already created my videos in m4v format. What do I need to do, so DVD Studio Pro 4 would read them? To mention this, I have converted them using VisualHub to MPEG-2, but DVD Studio Pro 4 refused to import them, clamming that they are not supported.
On that one menu, I want to have 6 buttons, that are actually a little pictures (stills from video, that I have already taken from video, and resized them in photoshop, and exported them as JPEG). How can I create buttons from those little JPEGS. One image for one button that will play one video.
In the end, I was thinking putting a little opening video before main menu showed. Video for about 5-6 seconds and then menu would show up. How can I do this? Is there some trick in Outline and Inspector that I should do? And also, what video (its tied with first question)?
I appreciate any help or reply. If you cant write everything down, please direct me to some tutorial or training video/site where I can get some answers.

You should be making m2vs (without audio in them, in other words not multiplexed) for SD DVDs (which is what you are going for it sounds like.) MPEG-4 is compressed so you wind up recompressing.
Use Pro Res to send out a self contained movie from FCP or send the timeline straight from Final Cut to Compressor an preset (or one that you make yourself.) I prefer sending out self-contained versions in case I need to re-rencode or want to make items for various formats.
Movie setting up Compressor is [here|http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/compressor.mov]
Now there are geenerally two types of DVDs - SD (which is pretty much everything out there, except for blu-ray and the defunct HD DVD) and the HD ones. SD discs will play on anything for the most part and you can use HD video in making SD discs. When converting from HD sources, set up Compressor to tweak frame controls for resizing to better. Make sure aspect is 16:9 and when you put in the track set it for 16:9 Letterbox, not 16:9 pan and scan or pan and sacn letterbox.
As to menus check [this thread out|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11253338#11253338] for a real quick overview - sounds like you would probably want to composite the menu in Motion.
As to starting the movie, set the first play to the clip you want (which is a good idea in general - start with some video and not and menu) then set the jump from the track to your main menu.
Check out the bits and pieces posted [here|http://dvdstepbystep.com] there are alot of little things I put in there which can help you along and narrow down some things where you may have questions.
Also looking at the tutorials and manuals will also give you alot of the information, but the above should jumpstart you and help get you past some of the intial hurdles.

  • Film Export problem - DVD Studio Pro 4!

I have a problem when exporting my dvd as .img file.
The protokoll says (in german): Achtung: Die Datei „NAME-MPEG-2; 6,4 MBit/s; 2-Pass; 4/3.m2v“ im VIDEO_TS- oder HVDVD_TS-Ordner ist auf der fertiggestellten DVD nicht enthalten.
means the original file is not included. what can i do?
In my dvd studio pro document all data is imported and green light.
    Need help!

It is probably a standard warning message to say that the file is not included in the video_ts folder - which is quite alright... you don't want that in there. When the video_ts folder is created it should only contain .vob, .bup and .ifo files. Anything else is technically 'illegal' to be contained there, and will be omitted.
Does your burn complete? Can you play the disc?

  • Formating Failed DVD Studio Pro 4

I have been using DVD Studio Pro 4 for several months (having upgraded from previous version) and had no problems. Now regardless of build and format or burn and even going to image file I get 'Formating Failed' see log - log lists 'Formating Cancelled'.
The only recent change has been to replace a faulty HDD - the replaced HDD has nothing to do with the boot drive, where applications are stored - the DVD I am trying to create has been done several times from material not stored on the faulty or new replacement drive.
    Any suggestions????
I came across a post from 2009 where someone descries a similar thing which seemd to just rectify itself.
    Thanks

Try this: Go to File->Advanced Burn->Build and let DVD-SP do the build on a local hard drive.   If that works, try burning the DVD from that build using Toast or Disc Utility:  http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/making_dvd_copies.html
If the Build worked OK, the problem likely isn't in DVD-SP.
If the disc burn failed, it may be the media or the burner that is the source of the problem.

  • DVD studio pro templates

I upgraded to  FCStudio about three years ago but cannot find a DVD studio Pro 4 content disc.  I had several discs with the upgrade but cannot find a DVD studio Pro one.  I cannot remember if it came with a disc or not, does anyone know if there should be one with it.  If not, where can I buy the templates?  Many thanks.

Regardless of whether you bought an upgrade or full price retail copy, FCS includes everything -the set of discs is identical. The difference is in the type of serial number you got.
You should have got a DVD Studio Pro Content disc with the set.
