What software gives me the .pdf on my computer, as opposed to just online?

I want my pdf's to open on my cpu, not in my browser. When I save them, it only saves a link. What do I need to use? I have the 9.95/mo pdf creator plan.

Not sure what you are expecting. Scale is just an abstract concept. The overall content and appearance of the drawing doesn't change. If you place the same drawing on teh same page and just change it's supposed scale, you have changed nothing effectively . As far as AI is concerned, all that matters is the size of the content in relation to the page its on. If you want things to appear at specific sizes, you must scale them accordingly on the page and also keep in mind that AI uses inches as its base unit. so essentialyl you need to define the DPI of the drawing.

What software comes with the iMac ??

was going thru the ordering online screen and I can't find what software comes already loaded. Can someone point me to a link or give me a list?
I have heard that Apple offers something besides appleworks for wordprocessing? Is that true. I've never used anything but Apple word processing. Is MSWord offered now?

* despite Apple's TV Adverts both Microsoft Office and iWorks are both limited time trials. AppleWorks is still available for sale separately but is not optimized for Intel processors so has a limited life span. Therefore a proper word processor is no longer bundled with the iMac at all. Only the very basic TextEdit will allow you to type letters etc. You'll have to pay extra if you want more; so you could buy Word or Pages. Personally I'd recommend NeoOffice (link) which is a free download and unlike Microsoft Office is Intel native and compatible with Office2007.

Boot camp does not give me the option to make a partition, instead it just gives me the options to download windows support software, install windows 7, etc. I do not want any of these, I want to set aside the space on my hard drive!

Hello, I wish to install Linux Ubuntu on my macbook pro by using boot camp to set aside space. Whenever I load the Boot Camp Assistant application out of the utilities folder in applications, it only gives me the options to download windows support software and install windows 7. I do not want this, I just want to be able to slide that little bar to set aside the space on my hard drive that i can use for Linux. I tried just downloading the windows support software but my internet is immensely slow and it has been an hour or so since it started and it's not even half way done. When this download is finished will i get the option to partition or will i just be faced with those same options?
I am on a 13" macbook pro, with apple OS X snow leopard version 10.7.2
A lot of the data on this macbook was transferred over from my old macbook i had.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Well thank you for your honesty. Apple requires you have to have a Mac to develop iPhone apps, ergo my foray into OS-Xland. No way around it that one except for running OSX in a VM, which would have probably saved me some quid, true enough.
BUT for those interested parties: VirtualBox has a startup script in /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox that will prevent OSX from fully booting on the initial (and required) rEFIt boot cycle. Once I temporarily moved that out of the StartupItems rEFIt went in as expected.
FYI, the openSUSE desktop running native is a little peppier than OSX native which was a nice surprise. Now if the Mac just had more open source software we would have a deal. (:

What has happened to the pdf toolbar in Safari 5.1.2?

I'm using Safari 5.1.2 with OS X Lion.
Usually when I open a pdf page in Safari and move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the Safari window, the pdf toolbar shows options like zooming, open in Preview.app or save to downloads folder, but this function appears to have been deleted. I used this feature all the time. Is it gone? Why?

How to work open the PDF and edit it as appropriate without going online???

Probably sounds simple but trying to find out how I can work 'offline' without having to sign into the saved PDF document. What I want to do is the following:
1. When I send my PDF document to a client and they want to amend the PDF version. How can they open the document then edit it as appropriate without having to go online?????

Your client would need to sign in atleast once at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" or Adobe Reader to get the file.
Once the client downloads and saves the file, he can go offline and then make changes in the PDF by using Acrobat (not Reader).

In Outlook my PDF attachments appear as whole documents and not just the PDF icon. How can I have attachments included as PDF icons and not the documents?

For your own viewing, you can of course control-click on the attachment and select "View as Icon".
For others' viewing, it depends upon their email reader. To ensure that attachments are not displayed expicitly you can put them all in a zip file (via control click and "Compress") then attaching them, or you can use third party stuff like Attachment Tamer.

Hi all, I have an application form that I can fill in with type script but it is a PDF file. Does anyone know of any software available for OSX that would allow me to edit a PDF so that I can type up some text into it before printing?

You can even use the program to make small edits to the existing text of a PDF.

What software works with the old 7290

I just want to move pictures and ringtones back and forth from my computer to my old 7290 and for the life of me I can't figure out which software works with this old model. I have tried several of the newer applications offered by RIM but none of them weem to work with this older model. Any ideas?

You should be able to 'see' the BlackBerry memory in the Meida Manager, and you can transfer small files to the Content Store on the BlackBerry using the Media Manager. Just remember that you are using the base memory on the BlackBerry for media files and you shouldn't get too crazy with files transferred to it.
Try installing v4.2 Service Pack 2 and using the Media Manager and seeing if the BlackBerry device memory option shows up at the bottom of the screen. When you open the memory you should see some file folders and you should store the files directly into the file folder appropriate to the media, and not use folders inside the original folder so the BB will 'see' the files when you use your Profile options to select ringtones or background photos.

Does Time Machine change what software is on the computer?

I just got my MacBook Pro back from the Apple store after getting a new display. They told me that along with replacing my screen that they updated my computer to OS x Lion. When I got home, I used Time Machine and restored my harddrive with a backup but it is the old version of Mac OS that I had. Did using Time Machine change it back to this or did the Apple Store not update my laptop?
Under the "Here's What We Did" on my receipt it states "We clean installed the latest Mac OS version verified on your product". Did the guy at the store not know what he was saying when he told me they put lion on it?

About this Mac says its Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 so I know I'm not running Lion. My question is, if Apple changed my computer to Lion and then I used Time Machine would Time Machine replace Lion with the older Operating System.
When I backed up my computer on Time Machine it was on Version 10.5.8.

Your settings -- between the Compressor, Pixel Aspect Ratio and Frame Size -- are oil-and-water.
If this is going to YouTube (meaning not going to be viewed on traditional TVs) and it's mainly Photos, try using this:
Frame Size: 1280x720
Aspect Ratio: HDTV 720p
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: Motion JPEG A
Quality: 100% (though in a lot of cases, you could drag this down to about 75-80% and quality will not suffer)
Unfortunately, you won't get much (if any) real-time effects. Unless, of course, you're on FCP 6 or later, where you can use a ProRes compressor instead. But with your signature saying 10.4. something, I wasn't sure if it was safe to assume that. The Motion-JPEG setting should work in all versions.

There is not, and there likely will not be for some time, a Firefox browser for iOS (IPhone, iPad, iPod, iEtc.). Apple will not allow competing platforms (gecko, which powers Firefox) onto their devices. Even the other browsers that are on iOS (like chrome) are only reskinned versions of Safari, and are actually slower than it because Apple wont give access to certain API's needed to speed up Javascript. Unfortunately, on iOS, there is a closed ecosystem that doesn't allow healthy competition among browsers.

HT1338 I went to the Apple Store and bought the OSX Mountain Lion update and it is still downloading. The download began at around 7:00 PM last night. It is now 7:03AM. What's wrong. The icon on my computer says it is downloading still.

Possibly nothing. The whole thing relies on the amount of people currently doing the same thing as you and also your internet connection, remembering that WiFi is extremely slow.
How far through the download is it? If it's nearly done and at least still moving along I would be inclined to leave it. If not then you can stop it and start it all over again. Just be warned that if it is simply a connection issue then you might just be re-starting your clock
PS - I've seen the download take over 60hrs before.
