What Software to monitor temps with P965 Neo-F

I downloaded Dual Core Center, but it says that it "does not support". I guess it doesnt work with the P965 Neo-F.
So, what software can I use to monitor my temps? Speedfan doesnt work either.
I do have a E6300, so it is a Dual Core system.

Coretemp
http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/
Reads the temperature directly from the cpu's built in sensor and should be very accurate...

i bought the new ipad (ipad 3) in July 2012.  what software did it come with and does it have siri?

The new iPad comes with iOS 5.1.1.
To get all new functionality and Siri, you need to update to iOS 6.
Be aware that if you were a Google Maps App user this has been replaced by version 1.0 of Apple's own new Maps App.
From the many user reviews, Apple's Map App is still a work in progress.
You can still access Google Maps from the Safari web browser.
Also, the YouTube app has, also, made a disappearing act.
You can use mobile YouTube from Safari to still view YouTube or a YouTube client app called Jasmine or download the Google YouTube App for iPhone. Google is working on a new YouTube App for iPad and isn't available, as yet.

Snow is Intel only.  You could get Leopard 10.5 by purchasing a Retail (black) Disk off eBay or calling Apple Service and ordering one from them.  That would allow you to run Safai 5 and iTunes 10, I believe, but would lose Classic support in the process.

  • Overclocking problem with P965 NEO

Hi, i actually have a problem with cpu and memory.
    my settings are:
    MSI P965 NEO
    2x 1Gb Gskill DDR2 800Mhz 4-4-3-5 2.0v
    Core2duo e6300
    zalman 9500CPN
i  want to overclock the micro, and set the ram to the proper timigns, if i set all to auto, and the FSB to 300Mhz, the ddr speed raises to 473Mhz, and it's not what i like, i just want to reach a 1:1 FSB ratio and increase only cpu FSB not RAM fsb.
Here i dont have the FSB:DRAM ratio, like i used to have in my asus.
Ok, going to the point, i want to know how to increase cpu fsb and not the ram mhz. and also put the ram to the full spec.
the ram is at AUTO and the speed manually to 667 because the problems i found with CPU-Z.
    The SPD reports 400Mhz, 4-4-3-5-24(trc)-2T
    Thanks,
    Ariel

i want to overclock the cpu without overclocking the ram, is that possible with this motherboard??
for example: 333Mhz cpu and stay at 800Mhz for ram
the cpuz is reading actually 379 (i cant remember the exact value, but is around this) for ram when i have set to manual 667 why this happen??? (the cpu is at 300)
The memory speeds you can select are not absolute but FSB:RAM dividers
    533Mhz equals the 1:1 divider
    667Mhz equals the 4:5 divider
    800Mhz equals the 2:3 divider
This means if you select 667Mhz RAM in bios you don't force 667Mhz but you select a FSB:RAM ratio of 4:5
    At stock FSB of 266Mhz this makes : 266 / 4 = 66.5 * 5 = 333 Mhz (666 Mhz DDR) wich is the 667Mhz you select.
However, if you change FSB the RAM speed changes along with it.
    So, for your 300Mhz this makes :  300 / 4 = 75 * 5 = 375 Mhz  wich is +- the 379 Mhz cpuZ reads.
If you want 333Mhz fsb and ram @ 800 select 667Mhz RAM in bios and set FSB to 333Mhz, also enter RAM timings manually.
This will result in 333 / 4 = 83.25 * 5 = 416 Mhz (832 Mhz DDR) for ram - The gskill should be able to take this mild 32Mhz overclock.
The board might not make it to 333Mhz tho - It's a budget board wich overclocks poorly.

  • What software should I purchase with my new imac?

I'm in the market for an imac and will be switching from PC's which I've been using for 10 years (I have an original mac but that's another story). What software would you recommend I purchase at the outset? I'm thinking of Office 2004 but what else do I need? Do I need iLife? Thanks for your assistance!

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of the Mac!
I just recently switched 2 months ago to the new iMac 20" and couldn't be happier!
The keyboard and mouse are the best I've ever had (and I usually buy the custom built systems where I have kept my old keyboard since the 90's and my mouse is a trackball - nothing like it.
I actually don't miss using them anymore.
I have found widgets to be very useful and there are many free widgets on the web.
I will concur that NeoOffice is the way to go.
Right now, Microsoft Office 2004 is not free and does not run natively on the new intel processors for optimal performance.
When Microsoft releases Office 2008 for the Mac, they will drop script support - which means no VBA - or more importantly - those Excel macros will not work.
I found that the process of switching is much easier if you have an external hard drive because not only can you use it to transfer your files, but you also can use it as a backup for the times you download those many free apps.
When OS X: Leopard arrives, you will enjoy it even more.
I certainly do not miss the headaches of keeping the Norton Antivirus up to date, doing the weekly scans, worrying if I will wind up having to wipe my hard drive because of some adware - it happened to me - I don't ever wish to experience that ever again.
Here's a tip from someone who switched - if you order online, you can select a software app at a discounted price.
I managed to get Final Cut Express (normally $299) for $99 when I ordered my iMac.
You mentioned iLife - it comes with every Mac for free.
If you will be printing, be sure to look for a nice printer.
If you will be scanning, look for a combo printer/scanner.

  • How to get new E8400 CPU to work with P965 Neo-F V2?

My old Core 2 Duo E6850 CPU died recently, but Intel doesn't manufacture that model any longer it seems and noone has it available. From the mainboard CPU compatibility list I could see that the equivalent E8400 model would work with my P965 Neo-F V2 as well, and the guy who sold it to me said it would. However, if I understand the compatibility list correctly, the E8400 CPU needs the newest 3.8 BIOS. I've never flashed the BIOS, so it's whatever version it came with (2.1 I think).
Is there any way to get this BIOS on the mainboard without my old CPU? I got a used (but working) E8400 CPU to try with, but it gets stuck at the first boot screen. I can't access the BIOS settings or get a keyboard to work.
Is there anything I can do with my current CPU and mainboard, or do I have to find a CPU that runs on the mainboard, flash the BIOS and then use the new CPU? Am I completely screwed?
    Thank you.

do I have to find a CPU that runs on the mainboard, flash the BIOS and then use the new CPU?
Yes. Original BIOS would have been 3.0
Edit: This is best way to flash BIOS >> USB BIOS flash << Don't use 'Live Update'

  • 4gb Memory in Windows XP 64 with p965 neo

    Hi,
    I have 4gb of ram installed 4x1gb DDR2 @ 667 mhz on a p965 neo (Bios flashed to 1.4)
The bios will only see 3.4gb of ram on POST and Windows XP 64 bit only sees 3.25
Reading another post, I was led to believe that Windows XP 64 would see all the ram regardless of the bios but this is definitely not the case.
On reading other forums, people have said with other motherboards you need to set a bios setting for Memory remapping, but I can't see this anywhere on the p965 neo - does it exist ?
How can I get this to work ? I understand the board takes up to 8gb ram, but the bios just won't see above 3.4
Have I wasted my time and money installing Windows XP 64 bit (and the incompatibility nightmares that go with it) on this motherboard ?
On another note, Linux will not install because of the JMicron controller - won't recognise the cd drive as ATAPI.

  • What Program to Monitor Temps (K8N Neo4-F V1.0)

What program do you recommend to monitor temperatures.
    I have a K8N Neo4-F V1.0
I have been using CoreTemp, but when I use MSI's Core utility or SPeed fan, or MBM, they all read lower the Coretemp.
    Which do you recommend.?
I would think MSI's Would read the more accurate would it not? Or should I go with CoreTemps temps?
There is quite a difference in temp readings.
    I am OC'ed to 2.5 Ghz, on a 3700+ (Stock 2.2)
When running SP2004 on Blend Tests I get a difference around 10 Celcius between Programs:
    Under Full Load in SP2004:
MSI Core, Speedfan, MBM: 35-37 Celcius
    Core Temp: 45-48 Celcius
    IDLE:
MSI Core, Speedfan, MBM: 28-30 Celcius
    CoreTemp: 36-37 Celcius
This is all on Stock Cooling. I am just trying to decide what temps to go with as I OC.
I would think MSI CORE would be reading Accuratley no?

Please do not double post your questions.
I gave my answer to it in the overclocking section.

I've done a lot to fix this problem and with help of this forum i did. I didn't have to upgrade my bios.
    Neo-F
    Bios version 1.5
The IDE port is controlled by the JMicron device. So u have to install the JMicron drivers to make ur dvd drive (burn) work in windows.
    - uninstall windows SCSI raid controller drivers or JMicron JMB36x Raid drivers (scsi and raid controller in device manager must be empty)
    - Reboot and go into ur BIOS and set ATA device to RAID
    - install Jmicron raid driver from cd (version 1.14.00 or 1.17.01)
    - if setup didn't gave u an plugandplay error then upgrade the JMicron driver to 1.17.6.4 --> http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=744&kind=1
    - if setup gave u a plugandplay error install via "have disk"  hardware update wizard --> no, not this time --> install from specific location --> don't search i will choose the driver myself --> have disk --> "ur Jmicron raid driver location"
    - If every thing went well ur JMicron driver should be 1.17.6.4 and ur dvd drive should be a scsi cd-rom device
    - install latest Intel drivers (v8.0.0.1008) --> http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022768.htm
This has worked 4 me. Succes.
can't complete the last step. after accepting the license agreement it jumps straight to the "installation complete" screen without actually installing anything.

  • Problems with P965 Neo and E4500 Core 2 Duo

    Hope someone can help.
I have a gadget for Vista that shows core usage. The second core does not register at all when running a performance test. Also, when I look under "My Computer" at the Properties it shows:
    Processor:    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU   E4500 @ 2.20GHz  1.10GHz
Also, my Windows Experience Index for my processor is only 4.3, seems low for the processor.
Makes me wonder if the second core is toast? Why would it show 1.10GHz? Looking at my BIOS version, I believe it's at 1.5 (I've never updated it since it came out of the package) but the Live Update Online utility says there are no newer versions available. I tried to download the BIOS update off MSI's website, but when I click on the .exe file, it flashes and then goes away. So fast, that I can't even read or see much of anything. The instructions that were included do not cover Vista, and say I have to get a 98/XP boot disk??? When has that ever been necessary for a BIOS update?
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum!
    BIOS-Updates
BIOS Updates should be done in pure DOS mode.  Flashing from a Windows Environment is very risky and should be avoided if possible.  Flash your BIOS only if you are aware of the risks of BIOS Flashing.  Updating the BIOS should be the last resort in troubleshooting.  If you are sure you want to flash a different BIOS use the Forum's USB-Flashing.  It is easy to use and prepares the Flash Drive automatically for a DOS-Flash.  You can find it here:

Is your CPU properly recognized in BIOS and during POST?
In BIOS, make sure the following options are properly set:
    ACPI = Enabled
    (IO)APIC = Enabled
    MPS Table Version = 1.4
If you are sure these options are as shown above, force Vista to re-detect proper HAL during startup.  You have to find Vista's Advanced Boot Options dialog box in order to do that:

  • MSI p965 NEO-F SpeedFan setup guide !!!

IF you have MSI p965 Platinum board, speedfan 4.32 Beta 8 does not support it, please wait for release of speedFan beta 12, which should support platinum board. (thx: Olabe)
25.1.2007: Added screen shots from my settings. (10th post on the thread).
Okay. Seems many people have problems setting up speedFan with p965 neo. I agree the setup is bit cryptic, but I got it working with the help & HOWTO guide included with speedfan. If this didn't help you, try to follow these instructions.
    My setup. (tested to work with bios 1.6B9 , 1.6B13 (D) 1.6B15 (F) ) With P965 NEO-f
I am using SpeedFan 4.32 Beta 8. (to download beta, you need to register to speedfan site b4 you can download it, so of you go to http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php )
Oh btw if you want pictures, I'm feeling lazy, refer to speedFan manual it has nice pictures and quite good howto too.
When you start speedfan you will see some temperatures and maybe one fanspeed that will probably say 0 RPM. Don't care about the speed reading yet.
What we are interested are core1 and core2 temp.
Press configure button and go to temperatures tab.
    ** TEMPERATURES
There are temperatures core1 and core2. Open first core1.
There you should see like speed1, speed2, speed3. For my rig, speed2 was actually CPUfan, so with 965neo it should be that, for platinum ppl you just have to figure it out by testing.
Open CORE1 and untag all other speeds except speed2. This means that CORE1 temperature is related to SPEED2 of some fan (cpufan).
Now Do the same to CORE2, as it is cooled by same fan.
Now before you exit temperatures, choose core2, set desired and warning temp. SpeedFan tries to keep "desired temp". Mine is 53C, meaning if core1 or core2 goes above, fanspeed is increased, if both are below, fan will be slowed.
!!! REMEMBER to set the FAN to cool both cores, so that if 1 threaded program is causing lot of CPU load your cooler reacts to it !!!
    ** FANS
Go to FANs tab. Unselect all but SPEED2 (you can also rename it). This means only speed is shown for this fan. (I only use 1 fan that gives readings).
    ** SPEEDS
Go to SPEEDS tab. And select SPEED2. Here you can set maximum and minimum power of your fans. Mine are 0% and 100%. With my mobo and intel stock cooler 0% is about 1050RPM. Tho you should check that the fan does not stop with this setting but not yet.
    ** ADVANCED
Go to Advanced tab. From selection menu select "WINBOND blahblah".
Now you must edit 2 settings.
FAN2 divisor, set this to 8. (now you should be able to see fanspeed, but dont exit the menu yet).
PWM2 mode is something like "thermal cruise" meaning its mobo controlled, change setting to "manual PWM control" and check box "remember it" from very down of the settings window.
    Now press OK.
Now from speedFan main menu, you select (below settings button) automatic fanspeed.
So now speedFan should be controlling your fanSpeed and you should see also your fan rpm (thx to blueKnight giving hint about the fan divider).
If you cant see your fanSpeed I dunno, but even if you dont see it, if you have done the setup on correct fan, speedFan should now control the cpu fan power % depending on Core temps.
Now get pifast/superpi/prime95/stresstest (i prefer stresstest).
First run something only on one core, see if speedfan reacts it, or if you even hit your "desired temperature". Fanspeed should start going up.
If this does not work, try changing on other core, or run 2 threaded test. (or for pifast, make a bat file that runs it continously) and run 2 pifast. Preferably before this open to CMD's and setup from task managers processor affinities so that cmd1 runs on core0, cmd2 runs on core1.

You need to use "call" command so that it runs continously after quitting pifast.

If you want to be bit more hifi about your cpu.
Google for rightmark cpu clock utility and install it. Using performance on demand settings you can setup your CPU to change speeds and voltages depending on cpu utilization (i know the cpu does this automatically).
But also you can use thermal throttling also as "idle throttling". So I enabled throttling at idle, Im using throttle levels 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. This number means that how many of CPU cycles are used for computation and how much is used for idling with trhottle. So PLS remember to choose 100% if you want to use all the CPU power u got.
I wont make guide about rightmark CPU clock utility, it has fine manual itself. And easy GUI. Some of the terms that there is (and TM1 and TM2 sensor or something I had to refer to manual).
To note, my computer works perfectly with CPU clock utility. But my bit older laptop with Pentium M and some Centrino sertified board does not.
Clock utility can set my cpu speed & throttle with my laptop, but it is conflicting with keyboard irq or something, because some times my keyb lose a key hit or two.
Hope this helps you speedFan fans. I'm going back to water cooling when I get my SCSI drives silenced.
    - prc

Now with some pictures from my settings.
First before you setup, you can go to speeds tab to rename speed2 to eg. CPUFAN, tho this does not have any other effect than its easier to see from other speeds.
In temeperature tabs, I have chosen core1 and core2 temperatures to be those temperatures that speed2 can affect. As you can see, also core1 (and core2) have "desired" and "warning" temperatures set.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/Speedfan_temp.JPG
In Fans tab, I have unmarked all other fans than CPUFAN (before renaming speed2). I dont want to monitor other fans, also cpufan is onlyone that I can get RPM values.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_fans.JPG
From speeds tab I have set that CPUFAN minimum speed is 25% and maximum is 100%. Before I had 0-100%, but I changed min value to 25% to give chipset a bit more airflow, as it is with passive cooling.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_speeds.JPG
In advanced tab I have changed speed2 divisor to 8, and PWM2 mode to manual PWM control. This was originally something like thermal cruise or so, meaning it is BIOS controlled.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_advanced.JPG
Here is picture of speedfan running so that there is not much CPU load. (ok the meter says over 40%, must be some of my over 20 applications running atm, but generally load stays under 10%).
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_noload.JPG
And here is picture of speedFan under load, running pifast on both cores.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_load.JPG
And here is one picture to show, that the cpu fan really reacts also to manual controls.
      http://koti.mbnet.fi/~prc/temp/speedfan_manual.JPG
To note that if I enter speed 0% for my cpufan, it will still run about 1000 RPM, so motherboard won't stop it really. Of course fan minimum and maximum RPM depends on the fan. Some fans run over 5000 RPM (FYI).
My speedfan is version 4.32 beta 8. From BIOS I have enabled that smartfan or whatever setting, with target temperature around 50C. But speedfan will overrule this setting when it is set to "manual PWM control". I have left it enabled, so that my BIOS can control the fanspeed (and not run on 100% all the time) if for some reason I don't startup speedfan or it gets broken.
GL with setupping, hope you got it working, if not try to be bit more specific and lets see if theres something we can do for it.
Ah to note, to control fan you must use fan that uses the 4pin CPUfan connector, I'm not sure if the fan needs to have some chip on itself to be actually controlled. In amd boards, where fan connector is 3pin connector, you can control all fans. (if the cpufan is controllable). Dunno about Intel boards, this is first intel board for me, after my old P3.

  • P965 NEO & SATA2 HDD detected as IDE

I can't run my IDE DVD-RW drive in DMA mode, it seems to be a common problem with P965 NEO mainboard. At the moment I can live with it, I've tried different JMicron drivers without success. I use BIOS v1.5, maybe I should try the new v1.6.
Recently I changed the HDD (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb SATA2) to one of the Intel ICH8 SATA ports. It used to be connected to the JMicron SATA port and detected as a SCSI drive. Now it is detected as a IDE drive by both the BIOS and Windows xp device manager. There are 3 x Primary IDE Channel and 3 x Secondary IDE Channel in the device manager even though there's only 1 SATA2 HDD and 1 optical IDE drive connected. The HDD runs in UDMA5 mode but the DVD is still in PIO mode. Now the HDD S.M.A.R.T function works (it didn't work before when connected to JMicron SATA) so I would like to keep it this way.
My question is how should the SATA2 drive be detected? I get around 135 Mb/s burst speed in HD Tach, does the "IDE mode" slow the disk down?
