What song data does iTunes Match sync?

iTunes Match seems to be completely broken in iOS 6. While ratings sync immediately, play count only does from time to time and last played never updates.
While being far from perfect, things worked better in iOS 5. I'm definately not going to renew and try to get a refund from Apple for my current subscription, since the product does not work.

iTunes Match has always had poor performance with Song data (metadata), see earlier post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3760002.
Agree IOS 6 has not improved, however, unable to see any information from Apple promising such performance - it is as though the limited IOS 5 capability was not a priority and has simply been left out of IOS 6.
It would help if Apple clearly stated the scope of intended iTunes Match / IOS capability - it appears limited to automatic sync of Song files grouped as playlists or Albums with no undertaking to share metadata beyond limited information such as Song names, album, artist and so on.
Have to agree that the service is limited, you can only assess the value on the limited capability available - for me, with multiple computers and iDevices (including Apple TV) it is still very good despite the limitations.

    How does itunes match sync playlists between my computer, ipad and ipod?

    It will tell you that the library exceeds the limit and will not proceed. So if you have more than the 25k limit (and keep in mind that iTunes Store purchases do not count against this limit) the only way you can use iTM is to move some music out of the library to get under the limit before signing up for the service.

  • HT4914 Does Itunes match sync only songs, what about apps?

    Interested in ITUNES Match, need to consolidate music and apps purchased under different Itunes accounts.  I know ITUNES MATCH will sync all music on ipad/iphone/macdesktop BUT will it also sync apps on these devices?

  • How can I easily manage what songs go to Itunes Match

    I have about 50k songs in my music library and not unlike other people I only ever listen to about 10% of it. So I want to be able to easily manage what is in Itunes Match and What is not. Besides clicking each individual track is there a way to Manage by genre or artist ?

    iTunes Match is all-or-nothing. If it is in the iTunes library it will be included in the initial scan, match and upload. However, with your library you will not be allowed to even activate the service. You will need to remove over half of the tracks from the iTunes library for it to be eligible for iTunes Match.

  • HT4914 Does iTunes Match sync audiobooks?

    I have many audiobooks in my iTunes library, and was wondering how iTunes Match handles them, if at all.

    iTunes Match does not apply to audiobooks. Music only.

  • How to Share BPM Data with iTunes Match?

    To ensure my Songs have current lyrics and reasonably accurate 'beats per minute (BPM)' data I've regularly used 3rd party tools.  Using one of the computers with my complete library this data is updated typically on adding new Songs / Albums.  Have noted recently that the lyrics, BPM and so on immediately updates on the library concerned.  However, these updates do not appear to be replicated with iTunes Match?
    Whilst the Songs are immediately listed for download on all other libraries, the additional data is not being shared.  How can iTunes Match be tempted to share such data?
    [I do have an inelegant method under a post for Metadata from early '12 but hoping that a neater solution has now been identified?]

    After careful assessment it appears that there are no improved methods for reliable sharing of Song data with iTunes Match beyond the basic method identified in this thread.
    Investigation by beaTunes reached the following conclusion:
    Even if beaTunes updated those privileged fields - I don't think that guarantees that all other fields are also synced.
    Sounds to me like iTunes Match is fundamentally flawed :-("
    It would be very helpful if Apple would allow users of iTunes Match and 3rd party developers to signal when Song data has been updates such that iTunes Match can ensure Songs across the (up to) 10 devices are synchronised.
    Until such time, only adding Songs with iTunes Match off, updating Song data as needed prior to switching iTunes Match on seems the pragmatic route forward.  For Songs otherwise imported they need to be removed and re-added in this style to yield consistent Song data.

  • Got iTunes match, synced up music from laptop to phone, headed out listening to playlist, all of a sudden, mid-song, music stopped and all music was gone and needed to be re-downloaded

    Ok, so I initially bought the cloud mainly in the hopes that I could store all of my music on it and have access to it on my phone, which ended up not being the case. Fine. So I man up and get iTunes match, sync everything up between my laptop and my phone, make a playlist and head out listening to it. All of a sudden while I'm out, mid-song, the music stops. I go to see what's going on and everything is gone and has the icon to download next to it, and now I'm away from my wifi to boot, so charges apply. I don't understand. Now I have iCloud on my phone with 25 GB Total Storage and 25 GB Available because I don't understand what I should be using it for and iTunes match which, what, only works when I'm within spitting distance of my laptop? I've tried to get everything sorted out, paying a fee each time, and hitting roadblocks every step of the way; and on top of it, my phone is constantly telling me it can't do this or that because I don't have enough storage?? I realize I'm a bit of a noob, but c'mon, it shouldn't be this complicated or difficult, should it?

    If you have no network access (3G, Wi Fi) you cannot stream music from the cloud. Period.The way you stop the behavior is to enable 3G, or pre-download the tracks you think you will want to listen to.

  • ITunes Match synced 12,000 songs I do not want!

    The other month I had logged onto another PC with my iTunes and Match uploaded 12,000 songs to my iTunes Match account. They are all random bands and completely disorganized, I want to remove all these songs. I have deauthorized the PC from my iTunes Match account but it has not removed them from my PC. I realize that I can go through my iTunes Match and delete the albums one by one, but this will seriously take me weeks if not months to complete. Is there an easier way removing these songs. My iTunes is running extremely slow, and Match will hardly load on any of my iOS devices, even my iPhone 5S. Not to mention its impossible trying to find the music I have purchased through iTunes. Any guidance on this will help very much. This would be greatly appreciated!

    The songs are not actually in your iCloud storage, they are links to the songs in the Store. What you are seeing is your purchase history and as such cannot be deleted.
    You can however hide your purchases, which you can do from the QuickLinks > Purchased option from the main page in the iTunes Store on your computer. Hidden content shouldn't show up anywhere.

  • Cellular Data for iTunes Match but not for app updates

    In iOS7 we can now have App updates downloaded automatically. Great. But if I want to use cellular data to stream songs from my iTunes Match library in iCloud when I'm on the road, but don't want to waste cellular data on App updates how can I do this?  It appears that enabling cellular data for iTunes Match also requires using cellular data for any of the four auto download features as well in Settings>iTunes & App Store. Am I seeing this correctly and is there a way to fix this?  I don't want to use cellular data for app updates, just for iTunes Match streaming.  Any help would be great.

    This looks like the same problem I've come across. From what I have been told, they are not separate, ie if you enable use cellular data to stream songs from iTunes Match you also have to download updated apps if you have it set to automatically download them.
    I think this should definitely be separated.
    The other thing you could do it go to another streaming music provider and then turn cellular downloads off. That's what I'm looking at doing.

  • Problems with iTunes Match (sync)

    This is the first time I use iTM in a computer, so, perhaps the lack of experience it's the main problem.
    I've got synced my music on iTunes Match, but yesterday I add other songs to my iTunes Match cloud, on my iPhone
    those songs appear, but if I erase the songs from my SSD, the songs disappear, so the songs are not on the cloud.
    I've already add the songs twice, then store -> Start iTunes Match -> let it run, but nothing happen.
    Anyone?

    Italian translated courtesy of Google:
    Guys I too have the same problem.
    I enabled iTunes Match , which works properly on the PC and the iPhone 4S.
    I've also enabled on my iPad , but, nevertheless , after a brief period when worked properly, has started giving problems .
    We describe below what I found :
    - The period in which the iTunes Match worked properly on the iPad lasted only a few weeks ;
    - As a result , even if all tracks in the cloud were displayed on the iPad , it was clobbered in the sense that the songs were not reproduced and , in addition, the duration was indicated in "zero" for all the tracks , so that, clicking , they were not reproduced ;
    - I tried to disable and re-enable iTunes Match , and at this point the device gave the message " your entire music library will be replaced with the iTunes Match" , while , in the " MUSIC " were gone all songs : was displayed in the middle of the page , the nuovoletta the Cloud with a download bar below. This lasted for about four days without anything happening , in the sense that the bar of the download showed no signs of loading ;
    - Then I tried to ripristanare settings and , at this point, they were displayed tracks back , but without the possibility to play them (the duration again referred to as "zero ");
    - When I tried to click on one of the tracks , the cloud has reappeared in the Cloud with the download bar below;
    - When the tracks reappear , always have zero duration and will not play ;
    - I enabled the sharing in the family but the problem does not change.
    We precise that my iPad is the first generation and is updated to iOS 6.

  • ITunes Match Sync Erases ID3 Tags

    I have had no problems with the iTunes Match syncing between the iTunes that was on my PC (version, I don't know, but it was older than 11.4) and my iPhone and iPad.
    But today I upgraded iTunes to the latest and greatest version (11.4), and now everything is MESSED UP. When I connect this new iTunes to my iTunes Match account, now all of a sudden all of the playlists on both my iPhone and iPad got messed up and came out of the Playlist Folders they were in and are now top-tier playlists. When I try to move them back into their appropriate folders in iTunes and re-sync, the re-sync effectively erases from iTunes the changes I just made. For example, it puts the playlist right back to where I moved it FROM. If I try to create new playlists, the sync erases them from iTunes. Even if I try to update an individual song's ID3 tag (like, for example, if I add some text to the "Grouping" field of a single song) and re-sync, the updated text disappears and reverts back to what it was before I synced. I don't even have my iPhone or iPad connected by cable to the computer, so it's not like iTunes is getting confused between whether to sync via cord or via iTunes Match.
    I don't know what to do. Is my iTunes update corrupted? It seems to be functioning fine otherwise. No alerts. No bad DLLs. Nothing weird other than the iTunes Match syncing problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Sean

    You should check with the head unit manufacturer; they can most likely answer your question.

  • Where are music files stored when playing a song stored in iTunes Match?

    Where are music files stored when playing a song stored in iTunes Match? Instead of clicking the cloud icon and downloading the song, I simply double click the song and it starts playing. Later, I can quite iTunes, come back and not have to wait for the song to buffer. When I go to about on my computer I am told there is 11 gigabytes of music on my computer. Where are those files stored, do they clear themeselves over time, etc...

    but then why does the FAQ state this:
    Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?
    On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button.
    Do they mean a different computer than the one with the stored music files?  Would be nice if they specified what they mean

    As well I heard that because of the customization issues in T.Code BMV0, the above error has raised.
    Also please note that we can define as well schedule jobs from the above transaction and the corresponding data is stored in the table TBICU
    My Trials
    1. Tested uplaoding an empty file
    2. Tested uploading with wrong data
    3. Tested uploading with improper data that has false file structue
    But failed to simulate the above scenario.
    Clarification Required
    Assume that I have defined a job using BMV0. Is that mandatory to use the same job in SM37/SM36 for scheduling?
    Is the above question valid?

  • How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?

    How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?
    I subscribed to iTunes Match a few weeks ago and my entire library was uploaded.  I do not want all of my library in the Cloud, especially given that there is a space/song limitation.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Apologies Brandon, we have moved on somewhat from your original question.
    What I have done is effectively used Michael's idea. I'll try to explain a little further.
    You can run iTunes match on up to 5 computers, and you can edit the iCloud library on any of them. Michael's idea works on the basis that, whilst you can edit the iTunes library, you can't remove songs from other computers.
    I have basically the same setup as you, but I also have a MacBook Air, which is running iTunes Match but without any music downloaded so it all streams.
    I added the songs on my main library, which then added them to the cloud. When they appeared on my MacBook I deleted them straight away. As there was no local copy I was asked if I wanted to delete them from the cloud, and I said yes. When I went back to my main computer I found that, as expected, they were still there, but the iCloud status is "removed". They are therefore on my library but not in iCloud.
    Since then I have run match updates a couple of times and there is no sign as yet that it will try to add them back to the cloud. It's too early to say that this is a definate answer to your problem, but it looks very hopeful.
    Our other discussions have moved onto the 25,000 son limit, which I note from your comment you may also be interested in. Watch this space.
    If you don't have access to a second computer to run the other library on then look back at Michael's post where he explains how to set it up on your main computer.
    Hope that clarifies a bit.

  • Change of functionality in deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match with the 11.0.2 version of iTunes?

    I updated to iTunes 11.0.2 and this version brought a change of wording regarding deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match, and I'd like to know if there are any changes in functionality to match the change in wording:
    With version 11.0.2, when I try to delete any song (uploaded, matched or purchased) I'm presented with a pop-up dialog box that asks me if I'm sure and also gives me a "Also hide this song from iCloud?" option.
    In prior iTunes versions the pop-up dialog box would ask instead "Also delete this song from iCloud?".
    Has the functionality changed? If so, what's the difference in functionality between 11.0.2 and previous versions? If the functionality of deleting songs has changed, how do I delete an uploaded song from both my local library and iCloud/iTunes Match?

    I am having the same issue- pelase could anyone help? Mods?
