What speed should I be getting?

I got an engineer out today because of the noise on the line and he was very good. He replaced the cable from the pole to my premises and my sync speed has went up from around 2000Kbps odd to around 7000Kbps.
Whenever I do speedtests though, I get around 3Mbps, shouldn't it be higher than this?
Here's my stats, and also... if I did ever get up to 8Mbps, would I ever be able to get Infinity? My cabinet and exchange are enabled (definitely).
So my speedtests come up at about 3Mbps, what can I do to get it higher if the sync speed is near 7400Kbps

I don't have a Home Hub 2 - I use a Linksys WAG354G

  • What speed should I get on my N network?

I've got a MacBook Air on my wireless network. I have a Time Capsule then two Airport base stations extended off of this. I'm wondering what speed should I get in transfer theoretically. I feel my WIFI network performs horribly.
I have a 150 meg per sec download internet connection or better and on my hardwired iMac it flies. On the WIFI part though it's dreadful. The MacBook Air may run at 20 to 30 meg per sec and the iPad and iPhone much worse.
I've talked to Apple extensively only to find myself with a third base station in a small condo of 1100 sq ft. I'm finding this very frustrating as they've had me test this thing this way to Friday and it's driving me crazy.

    Hi Shawn,
Thanks. This i very useful information. It is extended WIFI with two Airport Base stations providing the extension one specifically designed for air tune. There are probably about 8 to 9 devices on the network.
My speeds on the iMac wired Ethernet can hit about 250 mbs download from my ISP. My  WIFI though sounds like its in your range as extended the MacBook Air is doing about 22 to 35 mbs, the iPad is the most pathetic at about 5mbs down and relatively  the same up and the iphone actually maybe a bit better at twice that performance. Would that make sense.
It's interesting what you say about mulitple hops. I only added in that third base station as Apple wanted me to try an alternate Airport Express to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. I was just too disinclined to return the third one so I added it to the network so both AE's are running in extended mode. When I had joined with only two base stations, oddly enough the MacBook Air would scream but the iPad and iPhone worked in reverse and crawled. So Apple told me they should be extended. I just added the third in as extended.
Anwyay Shawn, potentially I might be running as expected which is odd in that I have never heard this from Apple. It's just all this trouble shooting to accomplish nothing.
Finally, other than the iMac, which I do work at 80% of the time, I wonder if having such a high performance internet service makes sense. I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. The service I have is:
         - Rogers Ultimate which does include a modem with WIFI
              - 150 mbs down 10 mbs up
              - unlimited bandwidth
    Thanks Shawn

I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.

If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again.

    Thank you.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

Have you tried using the "Arial Unicode MS"? I saw that "the Arial Unicode font includes support for the Asian languages (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean) as well as for all the languages used in major commercial markets." Let me know if this works.

however many router show a max attenuation of 63.5 even though the correct figure is higher than that so using the kitz website is only an estimate.  The further away from the exchange the lower your speed

  • What kind of 3G speeds should we be getting on the iPhone 4?

I used the speedtest.net app and with the signal jumping between 2-3 bars on 3G I did a few tests and got anywhere from .3 Mbps down .03 Mbps up to 1.25 down .06 up. Does that seem about right for the 2-3 bar signal I had?

    Just read this,
Looks like AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent have finally sorted out the software glitch that's resulted in slow HSPA upload speeds in certain markets -- we were just told on the record that a patch is being rolled out and the update will be completed over the next two to three weeks. That should mean iPhone 4 and laptop data modem customers should start to see their upload speeds creep back to higher levels after being capped at UMTS rates for the past few weeks, so that's good news

  • I have created a form saved it then attached it to an email and sent it out. The form arrived and can be opened but how is it returned to me once it is filled in. What steps should the person getting the form follow?

I need help in learning the steps to follow after the fillable form has been filled in and I want to return it to the sender. It arrived as an attachment to an email.

There are various was to return a filled-in PDF form but many require some detailed information about what product the person filling in the form will be using.
As noted above the form can be filled out and faxed or snail mailed to you.
Since Acrobat 3 the form could be submitted to a scripted web page and have the web server perform the tasks necessary to return the data to you.
Since Acrobat 6 the creator could add special "Extended Form Rights" to the form so users with Reader version 5 or better could save the form and email the form.
For mobile devices the app the user will be using will determine how or if the form can be returned.
Do not allow users to use Apple's Preview application on the Macintosh. It will corrupt the form in many ways.

  • Guys i did my OCA Certification. KIndly suggest me as what i should do now for a good job in india beside completing OCP certification?

  • Things I should do to get started...

Im more of a PC Guy so I was just wondering what I should to to get started with my new iMac, like, what software should I get to keep it runnin smooth and fast? I pretty much wanna know what I need to make my Mac experience as enjoyable and safe as possible... thanks!

First thing i would do is order some more memory. At least another 512megs. I have 1gig and my iMac runs great. You really appreciate more memory when using apps like MSOffice and Photoshop that aren't intel native. Make sure you have downloaded and install all the latest Apple Software updates. To do that just click on the blue Apple on the menu and select Software Update. To be sure you are surfing safely make sure your software firewall is turned on. Go to System Preferences-Sharing-Firewall and click the Start under firewall. Also if you are using a wireless router make sure you have WPA encryption turned on and select a good password.
    Congrats on your new Mac!

  • What wireless speeds should I get on my iphone4

I just got 100mb broadband and I'm only getting 20mb on my iPhone4 is that as good as it gets?

What speeds to you get on compters on the same network?
Would you honestly notice a difference between 20mb and 100mb connection?  Very unlikely.

  • Am I getting what I should be getting? - BT infini...

Hey everyone, purely new here. and long time customer of BT. Currently in ba contract for BT Infinity option 2.
I have several devices which are connected to my BT homehub 2 (Black box, type B firmware) and I am concerned about my wireless speeds.
If I am correct, BT infnity guarentees 37.5 (?) on a wired connction, howevr does not give a guarente on wireless, which I fully understand. However, through wireless N (Atheros adapter), I am getting 17.6mbps, which on an infinity line seems a bit bizzare personally.
I am also wondering which type of hub I should currently have? Our modem (openreach) has been replaced by the external company, however has not increased performance at all.
ANother question I'd like to find an answer for is: would BT infinity 2 be better value?
    Thanks for your help

It doesn't guarantee no, it's still dependent on network traffic and ultimately the length and condition of your line.
What speed do you get on a wired connection?
Some people have been having issues with Infinity 2 since it's release (I'm not one of them though )

  • Recording with audio playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into real time?

Ive recorded a test video with audio/music playback slowed down 65% what speed do I need to speed the video back up to to get it into "real" time?
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 50% I would make the video 100% faster.
If I'd slowed the audio playback down 100% I would make the video 200% faster.
So its obviously somewhere inbetween speeding up by 100-200%
Sorry but its melting my brain today and I cant remember the calculation.
    thanks

    hey all
Thanks for the advise on this. I will explain a little more what am have/am intending to do.
I have used Audacity to slow the song down (Effect>Change Tempo)
Audacity will allow me slow the original song down by up to 99% (Or anything in-between up to 3 decimal places)
Unfortunately I am working to a time restraint of 12 minutes per clip (as my DSLR will only allow up to a 12 minute clip).
The song at normal speed is 4 minutes long.
Originally I slowed the audio down by 50% (Making the audio 8 minutes long), lip synced to it using a rasta blaster and recorded the video using my DSLR at 720p 50fps.
I then imported the video and audio I had been lip syncing to into FCPX.
I sped up the video by x2 (equivalent to speeding it up 200%)
    Retime>Fast 2X
Layered the PROPER normal speed audio back over the top and all was fine.
    Test video complete.
(You can ignore the 65% slowed down audio I mentioned earlier if you like, that was just an example of a slower than 50% audio test)
Firstly what I really want to do is to be able to slow the AUDIO down as much as possible (But still within the restraints of only being able to adjust FCPX retiming within a whole 1 percentage in the final video edit), but have the AUDIO of the song as near to/under 12 minutes as possible.
I will then re-record the video again to this new slowed down audio.
Secondly I will speed up the video from 12 minutes to 4 minutes.
Thirdly I will layer the correct 100% Normal AUDIO on top.
The FINISHED video should then look like everyone is wizzing around at high speed but the guitar playing/lyrics look like they are being played/sung at the normal speed.
Whatever happens (due to the constraints of FCPX) I need the calculations to work so that FCPX is retimed exactly to a whole 1% for the final video to sync up correctly.
So what I need to know in a nut shell is:-
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage to slow a 4 minute song down to a 12 minute song?
What calculation do I use to work out the percentage of how much I need to then speed the 12 minute video up to turn it back into a 4 minute video?
    My mind is melting

  • What line speed should I have (about)

I understand there are many things that can change line speed. (Noise on line, Distance from exchange, line quality, internal wiring ect....)
What sort of speeds 'should' i get with these router stats? My guess is around 3 to 4 Mbps

    Upstream
    448 Kbps

    Line attenuation (Down/Up)
    49.0 dB / 27.0 dB

    15.8 dBm / 11.9 dBm
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nope. I have an old circular (with a weird finger tighten screw in the middle) box outside my house where 2 lines connect to from different parts of the house (Was done by the telephone company back in the 70's I think and The 2nd we don't use) and from there it goes into the attic and then down into the hallway into our main NTE5. I have no connection issues and sync at 8128kbps.
That wouldn't explain your connection slowdown though because I believe if it's the box which is causing the problem then it will simply higher your attenuation as well as lowering your speed.
