Have you tried using the "Arial Unicode MS"? I saw that "the Arial Unicode font includes support for the Asian languages (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean) as well as for all the languages used in major commercial markets." Let me know if this works.

What speed should I get on my N network?

I've got a MacBook Air on my wireless network. I have a Time Capsule then two Airport base stations extended off of this. I'm wondering what speed should I get in transfer theoretically. I feel my WIFI network performs horribly.
I have a 150 meg per sec download internet connection or better and on my hardwired iMac it flies. On the WIFI part though it's dreadful. The MacBook Air may run at 20 to 30 meg per sec and the iPad and iPhone much worse.
I've talked to Apple extensively only to find myself with a third base station in a small condo of 1100 sq ft. I'm finding this very frustrating as they've had me test this thing this way to Friday and it's driving me crazy.

Thanks. This i very useful information. It is extended WIFI with two Airport Base stations providing the extension one specifically designed for air tune. There are probably about 8 to 9 devices on the network.
My speeds on the iMac wired Ethernet can hit about 250 mbs download from my ISP. My WIFI though sounds like its in your range as extended the MacBook Air is doing about 22 to 35 mbs, the iPad is the most pathetic at about 5mbs down and relatively the same up and the iphone actually maybe a bit better at twice that performance. Would that make sense.
It's interesting what you say about mulitple hops. I only added in that third base station as Apple wanted me to try an alternate Airport Express to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. I was just too disinclined to return the third one so I added it to the network so both AE's are running in extended mode. When I had joined with only two base stations, oddly enough the MacBook Air would scream but the iPad and iPhone worked in reverse and crawled. So Apple told me they should be extended. I just added the third in as extended.
Anwyay Shawn, potentially I might be running as expected which is odd in that I have never heard this from Apple. It's just all this trouble shooting to accomplish nothing.
Finally, other than the iMac, which I do work at 80% of the time, I wonder if having such a high performance internet service makes sense. I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. The service I have is:
     - Rogers Ultimate which does include a modem with WIFI
          - 150 mbs down 10 mbs up
          - unlimited bandwidth

For me, presonall, becasue the Mac will run OS X, while the windows machine will run, well, Windows. Seriously, whenever given the option, I greatly prefer to use OS X over windows without hesitation. I buy Apple hardware because I prefer OS X to Windows and have since the OS X public beta. Apple hardware is very good quality, but so are many Windows PC (Lenovo IMO makes some great hardware, if picking a Windows machine).
I use windows at work because that's what they give me, but I'd not pick it if given the choice.

however many router show a max attenuation of 63.5 even though the correct figure is higher than that so using the kitz website is only an estimate. The further away from the exchange the lower your speed

What application should I set to open the Data_Viz Carbon Translator files?

I was looking over the files in my AW application folder. Quite a few say (in Get Info) that they should be opened with a very old OS 9 game application I happen to have. And also the "Kind" is listed as a document for that same game. That's not right. What Application should I select instead? The path to these files is: AppleWorks 6, AppleWorks Essentials, Translators, Data_Viz Carbon, Translators, and then the files. Some examples of these files are AppleWorks SS 5.0, Excel 97, and Word 5.0-Mac Win.

You do not need to open these files directly. They are used by AppleWorks to translate documents from and to other applications, and you can't do anything with them directly. The claim that they can be opened with some game application is simply the Finder not recognizing them and making a wild guess.

What speed should I be getting?

I got an engineer out today because of the noise on the line and he was very good. He replaced the cable from the pole to my premises and my sync speed has went up from around 2000Kbps odd to around 7000Kbps.
Whenever I do speedtests though, I get around 3Mbps, shouldn't it be higher than this?
Here's my stats, and also... if I did ever get up to 8Mbps, would I ever be able to get Infinity? My cabinet and exchange are enabled (definitely).
So my speedtests come up at about 3Mbps, what can I do to get it higher if the sync speed is near 7400Kbps

And source system is EBS R12.
I cann't set the proper value on the file_bucket_range_master_ebs11i.csv.
The name of parameters are BUCKET_RANGE_NAME, MIN_RANGE and MAX_RANGE.
This configuration steps are described at task#17.2.2.22 on e35272.pdf(Configuration guide)
But these tasks only explained "Configure the value of BUCKET_RANGE_NAME, MIN_RANGE and MAX_RANGE."
Dose anyone knows that how to configure or find the proper value of these parameters?

This issue is solved by myself.
We can set 3 values on BUCKET_RANGE_NAME.
ONHAND_AGING_TIME_BUCKET,EXPIRING_TIME_BUCKET and EXPIRED_TIME_BUCKET
And we can set number of days on MIN_RANGE and MAX_RANGE.
These values will be used for "FACT - Inventory Aging""Days in Inventory","Days left Expiry" and "Days Since Expired".

What plan should I get for my iPhone while living in another country?

I would like to purchase an iPhone 5s to use while studying abroad in China. However, although I know what model iPhone I want, I don't know what plan to get or what carrier. I'll be living in China for a year and returning to USA, so I'll need a phone plan that will allow me to use the phone in China, but also when I get back. Whilst in China, I'll be communicating with people in USA via facetime, so I won't be doing international calls. Is the best way to go about this to unlock a phone and change the SIM card in China, or buy a prepaid phone? What carrier has the best prices for either option? Thanks!

the only one which would work was the factory unlocked and since the warranty is only valid in usa I would likely be better of buying a phone in China

Loud fan noise while gaming on GT70 gaming laptop

I've loved my laptop ever since I bought it but there seems to be one problem with the fan possibly.
The fan noise is really audible and it gets annoying when I'm gaming. Games like Fable Anniversary (highest setting) forces the fan to be turned on and make loud noises that even wearing a headset wouldn't help avoid. You know how new MSI laptops have a button for turning on cooler boost 2? It feels like it gets turned on by itself while playing some, if not most games.
I would first like to know if this is normal for a gaming laptop. Its REALLY annoying, I even tried the GT70 Fan control 1.63 but the fan keeps turning on by itself. I understand that the GTX 870m gets heated fast and therefore needs to cool off, but like on almost every game.....Skyrim, Tera (not even that demanding.....and not even on max setting ....) long hours of playing league of legends, The Last Remant..etc. I wanna play without such loud fan noises I don't mind if its audible but not too loud, I can even hear the fan noise from upstairs if I leave my room door opened. I would really enjoy playing Tera and Archeage without such irritating, loud sound that really distracts me and makes me fear that its abnormal. Hell, even Rift (MMORPG) released in 2011, would turn on turbo fan.... =(. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The silent option doesn't fully stop/slowdown the fan, maybe just momentarily then once you open up the game, the fan goes back to its usual 3k RPM. Sad it happens even when playing fifa 15. I mean is fifa 15 even THAT demanding? the answer is no, not even close to demanding as its using the same engine as 13, 14 ..etc. Also, I played it on my old lenovo laptop that had WAY lower specs such as gt 650m graphics card and yet the fan was extremely quiet, and I might add it was on highest setting....
I understand that the gpu can get heated fast, but on almost EVERY game? at first I thought the fan will only make such noises when playing highly demanding games such as Skyrim. A game from 4 years ago without any frkin mods. or Fable Anniversary..OR Prison Break: Conspiracy (what the f?) but it turns out that the fan will go turbo mode on literally every game. so in conclusion, every game is suddenly demanding thus the Cooler Booster 2 will automatically turn on.

Heat/fan issue while gaming?

I got my macbook in Feb 2012, I have never gamed on any computer before so I am not sure how this issue is comparable to other types of laptops.
The macbook does get hot like any laptop if left on for too long or if it is running more "in-depth" programs, etc. I just bootcamped my laptop however and am playing Guild Wars 2 on it. The laptop fan pretty much sounds like it is in overdrive about 10 minutes (if) into the game. The laptop gets extremely hot, it won't burn you if you touch it of course, but you can't hold your finger on it for too long. I have all the settings in the game on low to help the laptop not run too hard and I also purchased a laptop fan base that I put under my laptop while I am playing. Neither seem to help. I am wondering if there is something wrong with my laptop as far as the fan/cooling system goes, or if it is just the fact that I am gaming on it and it is having to work harder?

Gaming does make the machine hot, especially if it's a 13" model that has no dedicated graphics, the CPU (Intel integrated graphics) is also doing that and decoding your wifi and running the game engine all at once.
The 15 and 17" models are much cooler with their dedicated graphics and handle games better.
Really the best machine for gaming is a Windows 7 tower, change the 3D video card usually has to be done every couple of years to keep up with the latest games/changes.

How can I control fan speeds in Win7 on a MBP-R for gaming?

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It has had Windows 7 installed and I want to play some 3D action games. How do I stop internal parts from overheating? I intend to use a USB cooling pad but that'll do nothing if the internal fans remain at idle speed.
The only Windows fan speed control utility I could find was the 4-year old SpeedFan which fails to detect the presence of any internal fans. I'm not impressed with the Windows community's failure to offer more and better than this tired old relic.
So the questions remain:
(1) Is the hardware still capable of automatically accelerating the fans as temperatures rise while gaming in Windows?
(2) What In Windows forces the MBP-R to lock the nVidia GPU into continuous duty and ignores Intel GPU?
(3) What control does the user have for (2)?
(4) How can I protect my MacBook Pro/Retina from overheating while playing PC games, apart from not playing games?
