What SSDs can I put in my MacBook?

I have a February 08 black macbook 13.3" and definitely want to upgrade the hard drive.
The question is, which one would be best to put in it?  Cost isn't important.  I just need it to be fast, and have 100+gb.
Also, when I replace it, do I need to worry about the BIOS or anything?  I can just plop in a Snow Leopard Installation disc, right?

Visit OWC where you will find plenty of Mac compatible SSDs. All that's required is to replace the HDD with the SSD. There are no BIOS configurations required. You will want to use TRIM Enabler 2.0 to enable TRIM support for non-Apple SSDs.

Hi I bought 2TB WD my passport for mac but I do not know what I can delete from the original macbook air. Thank you.

That depends on what you have on the MBA...if you have videos, move the videos to the external drive.  If you have a lot of music, create a folder/library for the music and point iTunes there for the music.  If you have a lot of photos for iPhoto, make a new library on the external drive and move our photos over there and then select that library as the default library for iPhoto to use.
Those are the big files and should take a lot of the load off the internal storage.

  • What music can i put on an ipod

I heard that the music has to be from the iTunes store. So the question is, what music can I put on one?
    iTunes music?
    CD music?
or just any music that happens to be on my HDD?

    Hey there,
You can put any music on your iPod as long as you have authorized your computer to do so under iTunes and that the music in a iPod-compatible format. More about compatible iPod formats (at least for the classic, but are pretty common along all iPod models) can be found in the first link below. Hope this helps.

  • HT2493 What format can I put for the icon?

I want to change the boring icon of the folder icon.  But I tried to put the Jpeg format icon and I failed!  What format can I put for the icon?

Are you trying to change one of the system level folder icons (so that every folder of that type uses your new icon) or specific folder icons for folders you have created?
The first requires special techniques that modify system level resources & is not recommended unless you know exactly what you are doing.
The second should work just like in the article.

  • What SSD is everyone running in their MacBook Pro?

After reading different forums and posts on here I am now torn between what SSD I should install in my late 2011 MBP. The OWC Mercury Extreme Pro, Samsung 830 or the Crucial M4?
Anyone with some Pro's and Con's for me would be much appreciated.
    Thank you ahead of time!
    -Darrin

While the Samsung 830 Series is the fastest one out there (it's also the one being used on the Retina Version), some people have issues with it, if your mb is earlier than 2010.
I use Crucial M4 as with a couple of other people I know in this forum and swear by it. Not as fast as the Samsung 830 series though but much cheaper.
Haven't got any experience with the Mercury Extreme Pro.
In any event, either one will boost the speed of your 2011 MB Pro.
Crucial being the cheaper one, will also perform well.  Go with the Samsung if you can afford it.

  • What SSD does Apple put in the MBP 13"?

From a couple threads it sounds like they use the Toshiba SSD. Is this true? According to a couple test web sites the Toshiba drive is one of the slowest (like half the speed of most of the drives).

Hi, Dana. There is no way to be sure what SSD Apple might install in an MBP that you order today. It might or might not be the same unit that was in MBPs built a month or two ago, or yesterday. Just as Apple buys its hard drives from several different manufacturers, it may buy SSDs from several manufacturers, or different models from the same manufacturer.
But if it is the Toshiba SSD, then I'm better off getting an SSD of my own and putting it in myself.
Only if it works. There have been quite a few reports here of various SSDs installed by users not working properly, and it isn't completely clear whether there's a single reason why they don't, or several different reasons, or whether there are brands/models that always do or always don't work. Until the dust settles and there's a bit more clarity, if you really want a working SSD in your machine, it may be wisest to have Apple install one, regardless of what make and model it turns out to be.

  • What SSD do they put in the MSI GE70 2OE-013BE

Hey, I got a question on the MSI GE70 2OE-013BE, I would like to know what SSD is in that pc because the retailer can't tell me anything about it and said that I should contact MSI, so this is just a simple question. What SSD is it?
    ty for help!

SSD's are known to use a fraction of the power that a standard mechanical hard drive will use. Overall, you could probably get the worst SSD that is made out there and still have better performance and use less power than a standard mechanical HDD.
I'm not really sure why you're still after this. The only real downside to a SSD is the life expectancy, and even that has been maximized to such a degree that it's not really that much of an issue.
EDIT:And as for performance, most of the SSD's I've seen MSI use are based on the Sandforce 2281 controller (I believe that's the controller anyway), and those generally get around 400 MB/Sec sequential read speed, which is more than sufficient in most applications. You won't generally notice if it's faster than that, and even if it was only 300 MB/Sec you wouldn't really notice it.
