What stops me to insatll 16GB of DDR3 ram over limited 8GB

Hi IT Geeks.
I have  HP Pavilion g6-2380sa Notebook with max of 8GB DDR3 ram. Cpu is intel I5 3230M 3rd generation and support up to 32GB of DDR3 ram. Intel HM76 Express chipset which has nothing up to supporting the amount of ram. As i understand limit is not done by hardware but is done by UEFI (Bios). Is any chance that hp has UEFI update to support  8GB DDR3 ram modules????????????
I want answers only form people those undesrstand what im talking about.
Myself Comptia A+ Network + Certified and doing MCSA server 2102 and Security+ so waiting only for clever answers what explains the whole thing.

Does sound like a less than optimized OS install & kind of typical of most factory OEM install machines.
I would download the generic Windows 7 install & give it a nice clean install & setup as will be far more rewarding than RAM upgrade.
I run a probook on 3GB for business/work related use & it is enough & the craze for 16GB of ram is simply a waste for 99% of people.
Do a ram test & hard drive test & ifgood think about a clean install.

My 16gb iPhone 4 suddenly thinks its 8gb. I've tried doing a restore but it says it can't as there isn't enough space.

Yes, Once the iPhone 4S was released, Apple re-released the 4 in 8gig. They've just done the same thing with the 4S.
If the problem is SMS, he should contact his carrier. If it's iMessage, does he have a data connection? I'd really need more information, though.
What is the problem, iMessage, SMS or both? Is there an active data connection? Has he contacted his carrier to confirm his account is still set up properly? What error messages is he getting? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?
    Best of luck.

You can do it without any problem, but make sure you put the memory horizontally, so you will get the advantages of the Dual Channel. You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial to make sure you have a compatible memory

  • What Exactly are the Benefits of More GPU RAM for PP, AE, PS ?

What benefit is there to having, say 4gb GPU RAM over 2gb ?
I have read numerous conflicting, and perhaps misguided, claims regarding when/why one would rather have a graphics card with more than 2gb RAM.
Does this impact effects render, multiple monitor resolution, CUDA, Mercury Playback Engine performance, other areas, etc. and how?
    Thanks for your response.

2GB of video ram is more than enough for the Hardware MPE engine and 1080 media with effects. Essentially the greater the ram space on the video card the greater ram caching available for the Cuda acceleration to buffer data ready for GPU processing. The Application memory management ie caching profiles though effect this based on each codec and resolution ie data per frame. However along with this you have to have enough system ram to create the buffers used to cache the data down to the GPU ram since that data shadows down for GPU processing and then back again for final encoding. This means that not configuring enough system ram will limit the amount of GPU ram used. Hence why you want atleast 16GB of ram for HD and the hardware MPE engine. 3GB+ ram spaces on video cards are for 2K to 4K + frame sizes ie R3D and Raw/CinemaDng. This is because the data per frame multiplies significantly when at 4K resolution. This require far greater ram space which is why you look for the 3GB+ ram space cards for those workflows. The Effect data will also increase because there is far mroe resolution data to alter. This is on top of the drawing out data which is what you see on the screen. That is when the differences for the cards show.

  • Installed DDR3 Ram have question

So I'm using the Macbook Pro 2.4GHZ which I got in the very beginning of 2008. The system came stock with 2GB of 667MHZ DDR2 SDRAM... I recently purchased 2x2GB of 1066MHZ DDR3 Ram to have a total of 4GB. In the system profiler and in "about this mac" the 4GB is registering however its showing up as 2 sticks of DDR2 667MHZ ram... what is my problem?
    -Dan

You bought the wrong RAM. It only takes 667MHz PC2-5300 RAM just like the original RAM. Return the RAM you bought and get:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146697
This 2X2GB PC2-5300 set from Newegg for $24.99 after $20 rebate.
I already posted this in the other thread but why would you buy DDR3 RAM for a DDR2 machine? I know you said you had the new MBP which does take DDR3.

No need to type in all caps - we HEAR you!
I would take a look at the internal drives offered by both Crucial (click the link "Internal Hard Drives Now Available") and OWC. I would stay away from Western Digital drives as they seem to have problems on a number of Mac models.
You can also shop for RAM at Crucial and OWC - just select the System Scanner tab at the Crucial website to find out which memory is right for your machine.
    Good luck,

  • What can I do because I have 2GB ram and it´s  so slowly

    Hi friends:
    I´m from México and this is my story;
When I start to use my eMac (a year ago) all the process are very quick, but now when I use any application to open files in the finder window of the program this process can be take 10 or 15 seconds, and It´s the same to save it.
At first I have free 160GB now I only have free 30Gb.
If you know the answerd, I been thankful
    (sorry my English)

    antoniosaucedo,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
30 GB free space is sufficient for OS X. You want to allow from 256 MB up to 1 GB hard drive space for swap files; allow 4.7+ GB for the temporary disk image if you have a DVD-RW (dropping to a bit under 1 GB if you havd CD-RW only); add a couple hundred MB hear and there for other scratch files, and figure on keeping at least 3 GB (CD-RW only) to 10 GB (DVD-RW) free. Inflate those numbers if you use Photoshop or Final Cut Express or other application known to make heavy use of hard disk scratch files, and your 30 GB is still OK. Ypu may want to start planning on getting an external Firewire hard drive soon and moving some files to that.
If you normally shut down an OS X Mac overnight or leave it in system sleep, the cron maintenance tasks cannot run in their nominal 3 am timeframe. (Display-only sleep allows the maintenance tasks to run). Tiger 10.4.2 and later will force the maintenance tasks to run after sufficient time has elapsed. Otherwise, you can leave the Mac in display-only sleep a weekend or two a month; you can manually Force Background Maintenance; or you can use a third-party utility such as OnyX to run the maintenance. Note that any system utility you use must be compatible with the OS version (e.g., use the Tiger version of OnyX with 10.4.x). Post back and let us know if running the maintenance scripts and clearing logs and caches makes your Mac feel responsive again.
2 GB RAM implies you have a 1.25 GB eMac or better. Note that 1 GB RAM cards are officially unsupported by the eMac; Apple only test and verified it up to 512 MB per slot. What are the specs on the 1 GB RAM cards you have? It's possible if unlikely that the 1 GB RAM chip's timing is mismatched and causing the computer to run slow.
Note: you can add useful information such as your Mac model, OS version, CPU speed, amount of RAM, notable peripherals, etc. using the My Settings link in the box on the right of the Discussions pages.

  • What is the biggest bottleneck on this machine - CPU, GPU, RAM (now at 8GB), or the HD, and would I be better getting a current 27" iMac, a 2012 Mac Mini, or SSDs for my current Mini?

I currently have a 2011 Mac Mini Server. When using FCP X, what is the biggest bottleneck on this machine - CPU, GPU, RAM (now at 8GB), or the HD, and would I be better getting a current 27" iMac, a 2012 Mac Mini, or SSDs for my current Mini?
    Thanks people,

    Hi Tom,
I just wanted to ask you about what you said about the color correction. To be quite honest I'm not sure what the best workflow is, and I haven't gotten my feet wet in multi-cam editing. Basically my work-flow has been.
    1) Import from the camera as optimized media - I found that adding color-correction at the import stage cause a severe hang with my tape-based Canon unit.
    2) Color-correct the imported files before loading any files into a project
    3) Drag files onto the timeline
    4) Click on the color-correction box
    5) Start editing - Usually I have one camera zoomed a little tighter on the singer, one on the whole band, and my iPad or iPhone camera at different angles so I start cutting things according to who is the focus of the moment, add a Ken Burns effect every here and there, Titles, an occassional transition effect.
    6) Add music effects after the looks are taken care of
    7) Export
Are you recommending clicking on the color-correction box after everything is done?
    Thanks - TZ

what is the best mac to get for downloading over 30,000 photos?

Download from where into what? What are you going to do with the photos?
I agree with Larry that a Mac with an SSD boot drive and addtional standard drive is blazingly fast.  I have an iMac setup that way and it boots in 14 seconds.  With the system and applicaitons and iPhoto library on the SSD drive and most other documents, backup photos, etc. on the std. drive. it works beautifully.  However, I do not let the free space on the SSD drive get less than 50 GB.
I also have an external HD that I sue with Time Maching to backup both my SSD and standard drive in the iMac.

    I have a 2008 mac book....with 1GB 667hz DDR2 RAM 1GB each....I want to upgrade it with DDR3 Rams 2GB each, it is possible?

No, the two RAM types are different, and the architecture has to specifically be able to interface with it. You can upgrade to 2x2GB of DDR2 memory, for a total of 4GB.

Can I use the DDR3 RAM that I took ou from my Mac Mini in my Macbook 2.1? The original ram in the Macbook is DDR2!

Unfortunately DDR3 and DDR2 are not compatible.  They also use physically different sockets and each will not fit in the other.
