What sustain pedal - exact make, model, type (momentary) is anyone using successfully on their controller? (I'm using m-audio)

what sustain pedal - exact make, model, type (momentary?) is anyone using successfully on their keyboard
? (I'm using m-audio controller)

I took an old Guitar cable, snipped off one plug, connected strand one to a metal plate and strand two to the metal part of a weighted lever. Plug it into the sustain port of my midikeybs. Press the lever onto the metal plate: sustain on. Let go: sustain off.
Even simpler: take a cable with a (mono) plug at on end and the naked two strands (mantel & core) on the other side. If you connect the two strands: sustain! if you disconnect the strands: sustain off.
What I am trying to say is: a sustain pedal is as simple as a doorbel button: on or off. So all that "the maker" can provide is "built quality", but really, any improvised simple momentary contact switch will do. In other words: there's really NO electronics to it, and if it is sold as a MIDI sustain pedal, it 'll work. But a doorbell button connected to jack cable will also work, so make and model (for a pure sustain-only pedal) are irrelevant.

  • MAINSTAGE 2.2: Sustain pedal triggering E3 note on MainStage and making notes get stuck

    Hey guys! I've been having issues recently with my MS and can't find to know why. I want to start of with a detailed list of what I'm using to know if this helps.
    - MacBook Pro OS X 10.9 (8gb RAM and intel 2.26 core 2 DUO)
    - MainStage 2.2. (32 bit)
    - Keyboard controller (I normally don't take a keyboard with me but instead use my Macbook Pro to trigger sounds through MS and use the KB just as a controller, but normally I use Yamaha Motif KB's - this actually varies!)
    - MIDI-IN and OUT to USB cable
    - Normal, regular sustain pedal (FYI, checked that polarity is on the correct possition already!)
    - Korg NanoPAD 2
    - Korg NanoKONTROL 2
    - USB splitter to connect (NanoPAD 2, NanoKONTROL 2 and MID-IN and OUT TO USB cable)
    - Apoogee Duet 2 (connected to the most powerful USB port)
    So here's the issue and what I've done to try to fix it (Troubleshooting) and also, what I know that is not affecting MS as in connections, hardware and routing processes.
    ISSUE:
    Every time I press the sustain pedal it triggers E3 note and it toggles between Sustain and this E3 note.
    Every time I try to ASSIGN the sustain pedal in LAYOUT mode, press the ASSIGN button, hold and release the sustain pedal, it toggles between "Sustain" and "E3" noted assigned to the sustain pedal
    TROUBLESHOOTING:
    - I've made sure that the sustain pedal is connected to the right input on the back side of the KB (controller)
    - I've made sure that the polarity is correct (switched it just in case - not working still!)
    - In LAYOUT mode I ASSIGNED the pedal correctly to my sustain pedal (when it is on "Sustain" it is still triggering this E3 note)
    - I've tried going through "ASSIGNMENTS & MAPPINGS" down to "PORT 1 USB2.0-MIDI" wich is the MIDI port that is shown on my MacBook Pro, and verify that it is showing "64 (Sustain)" as the mapped assignment and "SEND TO ALL" parameter (so it is triggered through all of my sounds)
    - I've tried going to WORKSPACE and manually MAP PARAMETER the sustain pedal, but when I do this, it still shows that E3 note is being triggered.
    - I've tried a clean boot of MS (same thing)
    - I've tried a OS X clean boot (same thing)
    - I've tried changing the MIDI-IN and OUT USB cable (3 different ones)
    - I've tried connecting ONLY (NO SOUND DEVICE or Korg Nano devices nor USB splitter device connected) the MIDI-IN and OUT USB directly to the computer and into different USB ports (still the same thing!)
    - I've tried different sustain pedals
    What are your thoughts guys? Do any of you guys know how to fix this or have exp. this before? This is really strange and I'm actually thinking that it might be my Macbook Pro USB ports that are going crazy! One thing that I noticed is that sometime ago the MIDI DEVICE that was shown on "MIDI STUDIO" in System preferences was named after "USB MIDI CABLE" and now it is not available to use. Instead, now it is showing as "USB2.0-MIDI" and that's the one that is being used by my Mac. An interesting thing is that when I try "TEST" in MIDI STUDIO and play my KB, it does nothing .... no sound is heard as a MIDI signal being fed to my Mac.
    PLEASE HELP! Need to fix this URGENTLY!!!
    Blessings!
    H

    If we can't figure out why it's sending a note on command, let's just find a way to make it stop. First, go to layout mode, select the sustain pedal, and make your settings manually(don't press the assign button). Set it as you described above.
    In Layout mode: (when toggled to sustain pedal)
    Screen Control Inspector
    Hardware Input
    Device: Port 1 USB2.0-MIDI
    Channel: Channel 1
    Type: Press/Release
    Number: 64 (Sustain)
    MIDI thru: Automatic
    Send Value to: None
    Next, copy the sustain pedal control(the easiest way is command>C then command>V). It will look like this:
    Select the new pedal and manually set it to:
    In Layout mode: (when toggled to sustain pedal)
    Screen Control Inspector
    Hardware Input
    Device: Port 1 USB2.0-MIDI
    Channel: Channel 1
    Type: Note On/Off
    Number: C-2
    MIDI thru: Do not pass Through
    Send Value to: None
    The idea is to send that unwanted note the the lowest note(0) so it won't be in the way. I don't know if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

  • How can I use the sustain pedal of my MIDI keyboard (novation launchkey)?

    How can I use the sustain pedal of my MIDI keyboard (novation launchkey) in a normal way? The tone holds itself and I stop this by using the sustain pedal? I need help

    There are two types of sustain pedal... One's with  + polarity and ones with - polarity
    The sustain pedal you are using, has the oppostie polarity from the standard.. which means when you press it it acts as if it is not pressed and vice versa...
    Unfortunately, unlike a lot of keyboards...  the Launchkey doesn't provide a setting that allows you to correct this issue... which means that unless the pedal you are using has a built in polarity switch...(In which case power down your keyboard, unplug the pedal and select the opposite setting to what is set now and then plug it back in and power up your keyboard) your sustain pedal is the wrong type and is not compatible with the Launchkey....
    Failing that, here is an example of a sustain pedal that has a polarity switch so you can use it with any keyboard....

  • What LCD is in Lenovo T440s Model Type: 20AR-S03300 - S/N: PF00KTMW.

    As at the title, can anybody tell me what kind of the LCD is in Lenovo T440s Model Type: 20AR-S03300 - S/N: PF00KTMW.. I means if is it IPS or TN?

    I also have the same issue and have now received four emails.  I've replied to each one with the information I had.  I also couldn't find the "Mach Type", so I took a picture of the sticker on the bottom and embedded that in the Excel file.  I've now provided that twice and am still getting emails.  I don't know how to make it more clear.
    I did receive a separate email describing the warranty criteria but it doesn't reference the length (additional two years).
    If anyone from Lenovo is paying attention, I hope they'll take note.  It's absurd that the user should be required to provide this information in the first place, especially to the manufacturer.  As mentioned earlier, it just makes it worse that the file sent is an Excel file.

  • What make/model hard drive ships in the new Mac Pros?

    Anyone know the make/model of the 500GB drive shipping with new Mac Pros?
    Have a new compy on the way and would like to pick up a matching drive to set up a RAID 0 with. I know it's not strictly necessary to have the exact same drive, but what can I say, I like to be orderly like that.
    Thanks!

    If you want matching drives for RAID, buy a pair of Seagate or WD RE2. They may be the same size, but the drive Apple ships, I would have gotten the OEM 320 and used it for the backup/emergency system drive (and put in FireWire/SATA case.
    RAID boot volumes? mirror? scratch? There are better ways to use four drive bays, and I would recommend a pair of 750GB RE2 or Seagate drives for their performance.

    Guys, any idea what is the exact thing to put  to resize or enlarge the image size  to make the photo larger or bigger when uploading in Facebook?? thanks

    You could check "Resize to Fit" and specify the exact dimensions you want in the Lightroom Export dialog box.
    But a word to the wise ... don't bother ... there is a maximum size that Facebook allows for photos, and you'd be wasting your time specifying anything reasonably large in Lightroom's Export dialog box.

  • Sustain pedal in Logic 8

    Hello,
    I am from Russia. Recently i upgraded my OS to Leopard and my sustain pedal in Logic 8 stopped working. Can anyone please help me with advice? What can i do about it?!
    Thank you.

    I face the exact same issue: I am playing through a Korg SG-1D in Logic Pro 8 and have a MacBook Pro running Leapord, and the sustain pedal does not record sometimes. It is finnicky--sometimes it does record sustain information, sometimes it doesn't. The event shows up in the transport (i.e: it is receiving the command from the sustain pedal), but notes do not sustain. It doesn't sustain notes in any instrument--piano or anything else.
    Sometimes if I quit logic for the night and fire it back up in the morning it will work then, but this is working less and less.
    I have been inserting "sustain" events by manually post-recording, but this is a big pain. I have a film score I need to finish by the end of the week, so the sooner the help the better!!!
    thanks!

  • Doubt : What is the Exact use of Product/SWCV in an integration process?

    Hi XI Gurus,
    The XI Documentation(Regarding SWCV) says "All design work is organised By SWCV.This makes sense, as interface logically belongs to a Software component Version"
    DOUBT 1 :
    What is the Exact Use/Role of Product/SWCV in an integration process? - Is it ONLY for DOCUMENTATION purpose? ie., to just understand the underlying Software used ? OR DOES it have a Technical say in the way the Business System behaves ?.
    DOUBT 2 :
    What will happen if I create a junk Product(I mean something Meaningless), a junk SWCV BUT while creating a Technical System(I choose Type as WEB AS) BASED on the Junk Product/SWCV ,I give VALID hostname etc...I then create a Business System with data valid data .
    Now i have created a TS & BS with Valid HOSTNAME & CLIENT etc. BUT based on the junk Product/Junk SWCV.
    NOW in integration dir.,will i be able to configure this Business System as Service for Sending IDOCS/FILE(or anything for that matter)?
    If It will work then That means The product/SWCV IS ONLY for documentation purpose.Please rply in detail !
    DOUBT 3:
    When I import the junk SWCV INTO the IntegrationRepository
    & choose import of RFC/IDCOC & give valid connection details to a SAP System , Will it import the RFC Regardless of the Junk SWCV I am using ??
    DOUBT 4 :

    Now Which Business System's SWCV do I import in my Integration Repository ?The Sender's or Reciever's ?
    and Why ??

  • What is the exact purpose of Transaction NACE and NAST Table?

    Hi All,
    What is the exact purpose of Transaction NACE and NAST Table?
    Pls help me…
    Akshitha.

    Hi
    When a Output type in an apllication doc is configured with a Medium, Partner, Lang and other communication paramters an entry is created in NAST table
    so to trigger the output an entry in NAST is compulsory
    Output is a link between the Driver Program and the Sapscript,
    An output type summarizes messages of the same meaning. It contains parameters that are valid for all its assigned messages, for example appropriate partner functions.
    Transmission medium is a medium which the layout will be come out, this may be printout, Fax or Mail
    Check this link.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/c8/19884743b111d1896f0000e8322d00/content.htm
    ex-how to config output type.
    You will assign output types using Transaction NACE.
    Do the follow steps to assign output type
    1)Select Application Type V2 which will have description Shipping.
    2)Click on Output types button.
    3)Go to change mode by pressing Ctrl+F4.
    4)Select one output type which already exists
    5)Do Copy As(F6)
    6)Give your output type against Output Type field.
    7)Under General data Tab, Give Program and Form routine and Save the data.
    i think it a work of functional guy but at senior level i think it is not a big deal for abaper.
    Check the following documentation
    In NACE t-codewe have the application for each one. based on the application output type can be defined, based on output type script and print progrma can be defined.
    If suppose data can be read from EDI then we should go for condition records.
    So whenever we execute the script first composer checks the output type and then execute the program. in program whenever opn form FM will be populate then script will open first. After that again program till another FM will populate if it then script will populate........like it is cycle proces. Composer does all these things and at last it will submit that output to spool.
    Go to the Transaction NACE.
    choose the related sub module.. like billing or shipping
    doubel click on Output Types
    Choose the Output Type for which whcih you wanted your script to trigger
    Then select the Output Type and double click on Processing Routine
    Then go to create new entries--> Select the Medium (1- print output), then enter your Script and Print Program detls --> Save and come out
    Now go to the Transaction (for which you have created the output type)... Issue output--> Select the output type --> Print....
    Device Types for SAP Output Devices (Detail Information)
    Definition
    The device type indicates the type of printer to be addressed. When you define an output device, choose the name of the device type that was defined in the SAP System for your printer model, such as Post2 for a PostScript printer. In the case of frontend printing under Microsoft Windows, you can also use the generic (device-independent) device type SWIN.
    The system uses the information in the device type to convert a document from the internal SAP character representation (spool request in OTF or in text format) to a device-specific, print-ready data stream (output request). Since a device type specifies attributes that apply to all devices of a certain model, it can be shared among device definitions. For example, all devices in the SAP spool system that are compatible with Hewlett-Packard LaserJet IIID printers would use the HPLJIIID device type.
    You should not confuse the device type with the printer driver. The device type is the total of all attributes of an output device that the SAP System must know to control the output device correctly, such as control commands for font selection, page size, character set selection, and so on. These attributes also include the printer driver that SAPscript/Smart Forms (the SAP form processor) should use for this printer. The SAPscript printer driver that is to be used for devices of this type for output formatting is therefore only an attribute that the device type specifies.
    How do I choose the correct device type?
    • In most cases, the SAP System already provides the appropriate device type for the printer type for the printer model that you want to use.
    These standard device types are completely defined and need no modification or extension before you use them in device definitions.
    • You can also download missing device types from the sapserv server. For a current list of the supported device types, see SAP Note 8928 in the SAP Service Marketplace.
    • Most printers can be controlled using a generic format, such as PostScript. They can be switched to a mode that is compatible with one of the standard printers for which an SAP device type is available. In this case, a supported model is emulated.
    • Almost all printers are delivered with Microsoft Windows printer drivers. The system can control these printers with the generic (device-independent) device type SWIN. The Microsoft Windows spool system then performs the processing of the print data.
    • If the specified device types are not available, and generic device types cannot be used, you must create your own device type or edit a copy of an existing device type. We recommend that only those with specialist knowledge of the SAP Spool System and printer driver code do this. For more information, see Defining a New Device Type .
    Attributes of a Device Type
    A device type is distinguished by the attributes listed below. If you change an existing device type or create a new device type, you must change at least some of these attributes.
    • Character set: A character set specifies the codes with which characters must be represented in the print-ready output stream (output request). This code replaces the generic SAP characters set that is used internally by the SAP spool system (spool request).
    • Printer driver: You can specify different printer drivers for printing SAPscript documents and ABAP lists.
    • Print controls: Print controls represent printer operations, such as boldface or changing the font size. These print control are replaced by printer-specific commands during the creation of the output request from a spool request.
    • Formats: Formats specify the format supported by the SAP system. The system differentiates between SAPScript formats (DINA4 and LETTER) and ABAP list formats (X_65_132 = 65 rows/132 columns).
    • Page format: A page format is the interface between a format and SAPscript. It specifies the paper dimensions with which SAPScript can calculate the row and column lengths.
    • Actions: Actions are output device-specific commands that are required for the implementation of a format. The action printer initialization, for example, can contain a printer command with which the number of rows on a page is defined. There is a set of actions for every format supported by a device type.

  • What is the exact version of BCB/ICI ?

    Hi,
    According to Note 1268057, if CRM7.0 is installed, ICI version in it is 3.06. But when I access http://javahost:javaport/bcb, I find the ICI version is 3.00. Because I need to implement free seating function, 3.06 is a must. Do anybody know how to access ICI 3.06 in CRM7.0 by Web Service? Thanks!
    BR,
    Hao

    Hello Hao,
    When you say "I still have doubt that how can I access BCB/ICI which is installed in ABAP end (CRM7.0)?", what do you exactly mean?
    Principle of work of the SAP interaction center is the following:
    1. preliminary steps
    - you get license of a certified ICI-compliant CCMS software, or you develop your own one.
    - you create an RFC destination of type HTTP, pointing to that software
    - you create corresponding customizing to activitate CCMS usage for your business role
    2. process flow
    - when you logon in IC, SAP IC sends logon data to CCMS software; CCMS software holds SAP session info, associated with agent info.
    - when a phone-call comes in, for example, CCMS software uses SAP session info to communicate back with SAP IC.
    3. Architectural possibilities
    With the way SAP communicates with CCMS, it is possible to have several SAP systems connected to the same CCMS server (Development + Quality, for example). CCMS software knows which SAP system to address, because SAP session contains full SAP url including SAP host and SAP http port.
    Hope this makes topic clearer
    Kind regards
    Walter

  • Any ideas on how to control the amount of sustain pedal data that Logic Pro 9 records? Every time I press the sustain pedal down, it records 4 sustains. Same thing when I release the pedal. Thanks!

    Any ideas on how to control the amount of sustain pedal data that Logic Pro 9 records? Every time I press the sustain pedal down, it records 4 sustains. Same thing when I release the pedal. Thanks!

    This gets confusing, you have two Macs with different issues and two pedals with different issues? First let's sort out what's what. So, do the issues come from the pedals or from the Mac software? To find out, simply switch the pedals and note their behaviour. No change: it's the software, change: it's the pedals (imho the most likely scenario).
    Second, what kind of pedals are they? Can you name the type of pedal too? The Yamaha what and the Mgear which?
    Third, with the 4 fold data problem, are the doubled events simultaneous, or a few ticks apart, or more?
    Also, you have no MIDI keyboard? Are the pedals both "standalone"?
    I think you have to sort this problem at its' source, which are the pedals. You could, if push really comes to shove, perhaps create some sort of ingeneous/elaborate transformer setup in the environment to filter the extra messages, although with the 4/4 sustain events that may not even be possible. With the "stepped" events you could set up a filter to just block all events with values 20-110 or so.
    But much better would be to configure the pedal(s) correctly.

  • Casting!  what is it exactly?

    can someone please explain to me in simple understandable words ( what is casting ) in Java?
    Your help is highly appreciated.
    ps( i read it in 3 differnt books, and it didnt make 100% full sense)
    - when is it used?
    - why?
    - what does the code really mean when u caste things!
    Thank you

    Hi.
    Ok, casting is the way to interpret an object in another available way.
    Simple example:
    double d = 1234.456;
    int i;
    i = (int)d;
    d = (double) d; // or i = d;So, what does that mean:
    After the cast, you interpret the double value from the point of an integer. When you print the integer, you would get the value 1234.
    So when you cast the integer value back to the double, you have lost the fraction. For this cast you dont need to supply the castclass (the (double) or (int)).
    So I have pointed out two ways of casting:
    implizit casting (int to double, you dont loose value) and explizit casting (double to value, must be specified, cause value lost may happen). Whenever you have to make an explizit cast, you have to tell the compiler, how you want to cast.
    Another example:
    public class Car {
      String name;
      public Car(String name) {
        this.name = name;
      public String toString() {
        return name;
    public class BMW extends Car {
      boolean cabrio;
      public BMW(String name, boolean cabrio) {
        super(name);
        this.cabrio = cabrio;
      public boolean isCabrio() {
        return cabrio;
    public doStuff() {
      Car c = new Car("A car");
      BMW bmw = new BMW("328i", true);
      System.out.println("My first car: " + c);  // print first car
      System.out.println("My second car: " + bmw); // print second car
      if (bmw.isCabrio())
        System.out.println("Wow it's a cabrio!");
      Car c2 = (Car) bmw; // how does the bmw look as a car?
      bmw = (BMW) c; // this is an error!!!
    }So. Now I have a class Car and a class BMW that is a subclass of car. When I cast BMW to Car I will loose the information, that my bmw was a cabrio. This happens because Car has no way to store the boolean information.
    A Reason to do is, when I have a collection of items, and I know that they are all kinds of cars. But I dont know exactly (say they all are stored in a Vector), if the first car is a bmw or whatever. But I do know, they all are childs frm class Car (or whatever class framework you are working with).
    Then I would cast the items of the Vector to my superclass Car and now do sth with it.
    The next step to use casting is implementing Interfaces. And Interface just supplies some members or methods, that each class must override, when it uses that Interface.
    So I cast my classes to that Interface. The reason I would do this, is, that I dont have to know the class type of that object, but I do know, that I can use all the methods or members supplied by the Interface. (You do have to check first if that cast is possible, but you can check this with the instanceof statement).
    I hope I was a little help.
    Christian
