What Swing UI framework is the best?
I am looking for a Swing UI framework that will do the following:
1. Render Swing UI in the client browser ( I think this is most likely done by Applet).
2. handle all event back on the server, including validating user input, button/mouse click, etc.
3. As compliant to open standard as possible
4. In terms of the technology, as mature as possible
5. possibly support PLAF for better GUI interface
6. Prefer good documentation for easy development
Note that I don't want the user to download new update everything I update my application logic on the server side. It doesn't matter if it is open source or not, please list all the good ones that you can think of.
I found SwingML, but don't know if it is good.

In that all versions of iTunes support ripping or converting to .m4a (both AAC and Apple Lossless) and in that the latest version is likely to included bug fixes and optimisations, I would say the answer is always going to be the latest version.
An area where there maybe a need to consider using an older version is that older versions of Windows are no longer supported by the latest versions of iTunes. For example Windows 2000 is no longer supported but Windows XP and later still are. -
I do a fair amount of audio, video editing and photoshop, but I have a limited budget. What's going to give the best bang-for-buck for the next 3-5 yrs? My current machine is a 13" Macbook unibody 2.4 Core 2 Duo w/ 4Gb Ram so it's time to move forward with more power and screen real estate!

I could never edit on a 13" screen. I'm currently using a 17" MBP i7 Early 2011 as a fast replacement to my aged 20" Intel iMac.
Both systems are not that far apart on stats and you will find that processing HD video will rely highly on the read/write to your storage. Myself, I'd be eye balling the 2011 for the Thunderbolt port so HD Video export/compression doesn't take forever! Currently processing a finished HD project for DVD uses at most 20% of my total CPU capacity. The FW800 drive is the big bottleneck! (I know I need at least a RAID to see a real speed boost).
How good your eyes are and your usage style would dictate if the difference in screen size make a difference to you. -

Within my main timeline, I have a bunch of buttons that scale up on mouseOver and scale down on MouseOut. With your help, I have gotten these all set up exactly how I need them to be.... so thanks for that.
My next question is a bit trickier, I think I have a few options to achieve it, but curious what you think is the best way to do such a thing:
So, if you rollover a button, you get the scale up, now, what needs to happen, is when you click that button, the button scales to full screen with bleeds, check out the AS2 version here: www.straightlinenyc.com/introduction/launch.html (go to explore, and click any of the circles).
Right now, I am thinking that when you click a bubble, within its movieclip I will build the transition – so if you click, it will go to the btnHit label and there the button will scale up and set the stage for me to load in the case study work. My thinking is at the end of the scale up to full screen, I could put an enterFrame function, saying once you hit this frame, gotoAndPlay the case study frame that I will place on the main timeline.
Obviously, my problem right now, is that if you mouse off the buttons hit state while this is occurring, everything goes away – so thinking on hit I should remove the hit state child.
The other option that may make more sense, is to addChild the hit state, so when you click it, that just loads on top of the button then runs, is this the simpler way?

The only version that you can update to is the current version i.e. 8.3 - unless your iPad is the first gen in which case it only supports up to iOS 5.1.1

I haven't recieved my video iPod yet, its coming in the mail, but I'd like to be ready when I get it. In your opinion, what is the best way to get DVDs onto your iPod?

What do I need for the best quality external display?

I purchased the Intel i5 15inch Macbook Pro around July this year and I am wanting to use my external ldc monitor, which happens to be a Samsung Syncmaster 226cw, to act as my main display for the system. I tried asking an individual at Best Buy what would be the best quality way to ensure that my Macbook Pro will effectively use my monitor's native max resolution of 1680x1050, and he seemed rather clueless. So here I am. I know there are a lot of other users who have a lot of experience with this sort of thing and I'm placing myself in your hands for help and guidance.

Note your display is only 1050 high so you wont get a full HD image - my LCD HD monitor (BenQ 24") is 1920 x 1080 pixels which is "full size". -
Why do swing app frameworks quirey the platform for osx?
I've been looking around at different implimentations of application frameworks based on swing and have noticed that they always quirey the platform to determine if they are running on mac os x. Why is that? Java swing programmers don't seem to be concerned if their app is running on linux, solaris or windows, why is osx a special concern? I haven't been able to determine much from looking at the code and it has me wondering why it should be a concern for me if I'm working on a swing based application.

Movie editing, what do you think is the best program?

KolourPaint in kde permits changing resolution to make stills compatible with .avi movie format. Other programs do the same.
