The best thing for iOS development is your imagination. Coming up with unique creative apps is what’s most important. I've had a mini since they first came out, and I think it's the best desktop around. However you may not want a desktop because you're more mobile when you work on apps. With the mini you can use a much bigger screen (I use a 80 inch) but the laptop has a slightly better processor (if you decide to pay extra for it). I'm learning app development also and a laptop would drive me crazy, but it's a personal choice, so you first need to decide where you are going to be while you're developing. If it’s at home or a office then the mini might be better. The mini and the macbook pro are both two incredible products. I don’t think you can make a wrong decision as far as which one handles app design better. They’re both great in that department.

i heard people use reflection with rmi, but what it is good for?
if i use reflection to figure out what methods etc a class has, how do i know what they do?

Oh cool, you just gave me an idea!
Storing bean class names in a db and upon retrieval of any name, a single utility can construct an entire GUI editor panel for any variety of java bean conforming to the Java Bean specifications. This way, if ever I want to add a new Panel to an application for a new module or set of features, all I would hypothetically have to do is create the bean and add the name to the db and load up my app without even having to create the new GUI interface for editing it.

Oh and one other additional thing reflection is good for, is interfacing with XML config files using the attribute names as identifiers for locating the setters (E.g., Spring Framework) as well as a bunch of other related XML things.
Your imagination is your only limit. I would excercise caution in where and how you use it though. Usually best to use in initialization routines rather than runtime functions or during exhaustive processes.

Note:columns are not unique and we would be using alpha,beta,gamma to uniquely identify a record .Now as you see my sample data this is in a table which doesnt have index .I would like to have a index created covering these columns (alpha,beta,gamma) .I
beleive that creating clustered index having covering columns will be better.
What would you recommend the index type should be here in this case.Say data volume is 1 milion records and we always use the alpha,beta,gamma columns when we filiter or query records

When I tried querying using the below query on my heap table the sql server suggested to create NON CLUSTERED INDEX INCLUDING columns ,[beta],[gamma] ,[col1]

My question is why it didn't suggest Clustered INDEX and chose NON clustered index ?

I already created the system object R/3 Backend.
Actually some WebDynpro java applications/iViews are currently running on Portal. and the developers developed these in NWDS and deployed the .sca files on the Portal server and we created Webdynpro for java iViews.
but now the requirement is creation of webDynpro for ABAP views.
The developers developed WebDynpro for ABAP on the R/3 system. So what are the parameter values we need to give at teh time of creation of WebDynpro for ABAP iview like the Namespace, Application name etc which are mandatory values and how the Portal server detects the application, this means no need to deploy the application on the Portal server?
Shall we need to maintain any JCo Destinations or not?
Pl share your ideas.

SAP HANA development languages for ABAP Developer

Hi I was just looking at some blogs on HANA. Can anyone tell me how to learn the new HANA programming languages SQLScript etc. As you know not many companies use HANA yet, so getting to use a real HANA box can be hard as of now.. What are the other options... Can I install the HANA software on my PC and use it with a few Excel files or MS-Access db just to workout what these programming languages actually do.. Ofcourse I dont have access to the HANA box(hardware that SAP talks about). I am an ABAP Developer I have access to ECC if that helps.
Also from what I can understand the HANA box sits on top of the ECC/BW systems etc or would HANA replace some aspects of the Application Server and sit in the R3 architecture? if the second scenario is true would most of the ABAP reports etc written using traditional ABAP have to be replaced or modified to use HANA related code in them to improve performance(I know ABAP doesnt support this yet).
If companies start using HANA I would think most ABAP developments just querying to get data would need to be rewritten-even the webdynpro applications for performance.
Can HANA update DBs as well?
Would HANA programming be a required skill for most ABAP developers in future?

Hello Sk,
so far (with HANA 1.0 SPS 2), the only relevant languages to learn is SQL and SQL Script. Check http://service.sap.com/hana which has SQL and SQL Script Guides.
Since you know ABAP already, you will pick these things up rather quickly. There are as you noted some concepts you have to understand in order to make optimal use of the HANA features and get maximum performance (anyone could come up with SQL or SQL script that crawls to a halt even in HANA). One key is to process everything is sets of data rather than record by record. Another important item is to keep all processing within the column engine. Also avoid joins that lead to large intermediate results. We are currently writing some how-to guides which will be publised on http://www.experiencesaphana.com/. Stay tuned!
In terms of the architecture, I would say HANA as a database sits below the application server and/or client, for example, BW powered by HANA where HANA plays the role of the DBMS. The other option is to run side-by-side for example, connecting HANA to an existing ECC (that runs on MS-SQL). In either case, you are right; the logic (either in the application on top of HANA, or the models inside HANA) needs to be changed or created to take advantage of HANA.
Where can you learn more? Class room training TZHANA or come back regularly to the Try section of the Experience Site where we plan to publish other options.

ABAP is not difficult to learn if you already have programing experience. In fact I find the language much cleaner and the utilities and tools much more efficient than many mainstream dynamic languages. To begin with ABAP, there are many many tutorials, forums, blogs and books that you will find online. As for actually getting to the interface you have two possibilities. SAP offers a development server you can install on your own system. I do not have the link on hand and it is somewhat cumbersome to install and setup the database, but you can find this on SAP page.
However, the better option is, if you currently work at a place that uses SAP, ask the administrator to get you a development KEY for their DEV, test or training systems. This way not only will you have access to execute your own ABAP code on the server, but also access to business data to report on (development server does not provide business transactions). If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
For your first program of course:
WRITE:/ 'HELLO WORLD!'.

What is C++ good for?

I think it's kind of weird that Microsoft can't build a class designer that displays manged types in C++. Why is it that C++ always comes last out of all of the languages! I know it isn't the most popular language but still, you begin to feel like Microsoft are trying to shut it off so there are only 2 languages, C# and VB. Over the years I have learned to program in C++ because of the pointer functionality and the sense of control you have over your code. Where as in C# you know less about what pointers and memory are doing and as a result it makes it easier to program in C#.
But then it begs the question what is C++ really good for at the end of the day. There is less and less functionality for it and it's language with many syntax obstacles compared to the easy and quick ways of writing C# code.
I would really appreciate different sides of the debate because then it might help me to realize that learning all about C++ wasn't such a waste of time after all.

simple answer: it's the only language you can use to write real programs with (= for a computer) ... all other "programming" languages are some kind of scrippting tools in my eyes
but today they even call html and css a "programming" language ... that's like saying "hey, I'm a chef, I know how to cook water"
it's true, that we should talk about C/C++ and not about C++ alone and it's also true, that there are things in those language which I would like to change... but far less than in C#, Java and VB... oh and by the way: no, it's not complicated,
it's powerful ... with C/C++ you can program the machine! you can decide what it should do! and you know if you're talking about a pointer, a variable, and integer or what ever...
and if somebody is passing a string by value... well, then... this person simply isn't a programmer... that's it ...
so, again... what is C/C++ good for? it's the only way to write computer programs
that's what I think...

What's best architecture for DAQmx app with two operational modes?

I have an architectural question. I am writing an application which takes measurements from a custom sensor which has two modes of operation: 1) idle mode where two voltages are sampled slowly, run through a transform, and then the result is plotted such that the user can see the idle state of the sensor; 2) a testing mode where the user defines a testing time of some number of seconds then hits 'Go' and records high-speed acquisition for the specified number of seconds (with some sort of simultaneous real-time plotting) and then writes the data out to a file. I am trying to use the 'Top Level Application using Events" VI template but have run into issues with the VI not responding to UI clicks when in an event case...I got around **some** of these issues but now I am stuck because I can't get the app to register an abort button click when in testing mode. I think I am missing something when it comes to events as LabVIEW defines them. (I'm a .NET programmer) My basic question is what is the best top-level VI architecture to use for something like this? I don't want to go down the wrong path and have to re-write the whole thing...
**I did come up with a seemingly neat way to get a tab control to switch tabs from inside an event case...I look at the X, Y coordinates of a mouse click and if it is within one of the tab selector zones at the top, left of the control I programmatically swith to the corresponding tab...seems like there should be an easier way but it works.

I think that the best would probably be a producer consumer type architecture with events. You can do a search in the example finder and find a good one. As for the events not responding, you probably just need to uncheck the check box for disabling the front panel until the event finishes. You will find this at the bottom of the dialog box for the event structure.
