What temp for the CPU fan is dangerous

I have a HP Pavilion P6404y which occasionally the screen goes black.  It appears that my computer is still running as the on light is still on, but when I hold down on the start button to shut the computer off it shuts off and when I turn it back on my screen is working again.  I was thinking that maybe my computer is getting a little hot and was wondering what temp is hazardous for the CPU Fan.  I download some software and it states when using my computer that the temp is almost 60C.

  • What is the correct way of quieting down the CPU fan?

    Hello,
Let me first ask for recomendations on an aftermarket CPU Heatsink and Fan to replace the stock one on my AMD x4 965 Black edition CPU please, My profile on this forum has my computers equipment and case etc.  But if you need more info please just ask..
Would somebody please give me instructions on how to make the stock CPU cooling fan run at a more appropriate RPM when at idle and or when running with a load on it please.
The stock CPU cooling fan usually runs up there at about 5,000 to 5,500 CPM even when at idle and it's seriously insanely loud, too loud to be sitting next to it and trying to concentrate on work or even playing a game.
I've been loading up the Overclockers Center program and choosing the default profile since that seems to have the CPU fan set to around 3500 RPM which produces an acceptable noise level for the fan.  But I figure that having to load up Overclockers Center program and choosing a profile each time I load my computer is probably not the way I should be doing it, so if somebody wouldn't mind, please explain what I need to set in the Bios or elsewhere so that the CPU cooling fan is not blowing my head off with noise all the time.
    Thanks

    Hello
1-This mobo is strong enough to support such a heavy coolers. Now i have i installed TUNIQ TOWER EXTREM( because of porformance/price here) that is as heavy as v8. although the company dosnt gauranty the failure but it works very well on my case and i rotate and opening the case  many times for some experiments!!
2- ZALMAN is a famous cooler producer.I said the rules for choosing a cooler . You can buy one of them .The reviews on net can help you for best choise.BUt v8 is a good proven cooler because the more surface that has and material and big fan.although i didnt have another choice in IRAN.You may find so better coolers.
the fluid mechanic rules say that the surface-material-shape of heat sinks and temperature-velocity-amount of air that moves on the heat sinks are the parameters of a heat sink.
i have a bad experience. In my old case with P4 3 GHZ i bought a good cooler from THERMALTAKE .But the fans is rotating very much and made noise. There was some truth that i didnt mentioned.
The cpu is produce a lot of heat ( more than phenom) and  the fan is 10 cmm i think . I replaced the fan with a 12 cmm fan but the system in loads crashed. The heat sink designed for such a fan and it must rotate very much to cool cpu .12 cm fans cant go beyond 2000 rpm i think and this amount of air wasnt enough for cooling.
3- you have a lot of wind in your case!!. I dont know that greater fan than 12 cm is safe because they use more current .But 8 and 12 cm fans works very well with onboard ports and SPEEDFAN program.
After all cooling and making the pc make less noise is a long story .You must have a target . There is a limit that you cant go beyond that so i think you must have a plan and use your money and time on it.
For my new system i had a dream: most powerful-silent-upgradable system so i choosed these parts:
POWER=CM SILENT PRO- for the design and big fan that they have.
CPU=ATHLON II 635 -I knew that phenom is very powerful but make more heat so i used this cpu and have plan for upgrading with a 6 core cpu.
    VGA= 1-GIGABYTE 9800GT SILENT
             2-ZOTAC 9800GT SYNERGY
choosing a gpu was very hard. 9800gt silent was the most powerful silent cpu that i could buy. but for future i bought a zotac. because it has a single cooler and dosnt occupy a PCI slot that i need.
you may say why you dont buy another 9800 silent? because this card is warm in loads and i had a fear two of them in a case may harm them. I count on HYBRID SLI technology that could shut down the second card but it is not working and i am a little disappoint .
two 9800gt in sli have as power as a GTS 270 in reviews.
CPU COOLER=TUNIQ TOWER EXTREM- According to my counts cooler was silent in ideal but in loads it was noisy so i replaced that
MOBO=NF980-G65-It uses the last chipset from nvidia with sli enabled and ddr3 and phenomii x6 support. (The mobo is hot. According to some reviews it is cooler than AMD chipset motherboards and faster but i hope it was cooler)
    Good luck

  • What temperatures are acceptable for the CPU and Graphics card?

I have Intel Xeon X5400 series CPUs and a Nvidia graphics card.
It is interesting to monitor the temperatures but only if you know what temps matter...
What temperatures are acceptable for the CPU and Graphics card?
I was not sure if this is the document of choice for the CPU or not. I was not sure I was decifering it correctly either.

Any one know what we should be watching for as far as what is too hot?
    I have a ThinkStation D10.
Did not see this in the user manual but could have missed it.

    I found my specs:
    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU           E5405  @ 2.00GHz
You are correct. An E series.
I was so focused on the upgrade to the X5420 that I forgot what the system came with.
So what should I set my sensor high value to on my sensor program that shows up on the panel (taskbar)?
For the E5405 or the X5420?
SIDE NOTE: where can I get 2 E5420s or better cheap?
Not ready to give up my filters just yet. I live in a dust factory!
My girl friend sews really nice bags but creates sewing dust and fuzz.
And well there are natural fibers everywhere...
    So other than the the X5492 (150watts),  the X5482, X5472,  X5470, X5460, X5450 are all 120 watts.
Like the bulk of the X series...
    The E5405, E5410, E5450, E5440, E5420, E5430, E5470, E5462, E5472 are all 80 watts.
The L series seems to all be 50 Watts.

  • My compaq presario desktop hangs after working for while.cpu fan also makes noise.?

I did clean the dust but still fan makes noise and after starting the system it hangs.say may be after 10 min....what could be the problem ?

The ST5402FH is circa 2008. Here's how to measure a fan. Although the example is for a 92mm, it's likely your CPU fan is 80mm. Use the guide to learn how to meaure the fan, so you can order it.
The CPU fan is a 4 pin PWM fan. It's RPM is critical. Order too slow a fan, and your system will not boot. You can use the free HWMonitor to check the current RPM ranges. It will show 2 fans, just disconnect the rear case fan (3 pin) temporarily to determine which is the CPU fan.

  • Problem with PM8PM-IL and the CPU fan

Hello everybody i am spanish my apologies for my english xD
I have a motherboard MSI PM8PM-IL (MS-7222), official intel fan with four connectors, the fan support PWM but the motherboard doesnt control the rpm of the fan and I have 3668 rpm 53 °C  (127 °F)
From the manual  "you must use a specially designed fan with speed sensor to take advantage of the CPU fan control."
In the bios i don't see that option "H/W Monitor This entry shows the status of your CPU, fan, warning for overall system status."
    "CPU Smart Fan Temperature"
the manual have photos of this menus but when i enter in the bios i don't see anything of that
    msi.com/product/mb/PM8PM-IL--L.html

You appear to have some Beta test version of the 1.2 BIOS.
Try flashing to the last version 1.3:
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/PM8PM-IL--L.html#/?div=BIOS
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
However, its possible that your board simply doesn't support this feature, and the manual is incorrect.

  • I'm getting a Plugged in, not charging message after replacing the CPU fan

I just replaced the CPU fan on this notebook last night and finished it today. Its running perfectly at the moment.
The problem is the windows Task bar on my desktop says "Plugged in, not charging" when I mouse over the battery indicator there. I've tried many things to fix it, from uninstalling or disabling the drivers for the devices involved (the ACPI battery and AC adapter) under Windows' device manager, to swapping out with my spare battery.
I've also switched power plans on the off chance that could have been causing some kind of battery charging setting. This did not fix it. The AC adapter works. I've been running this notebook for about two hours now searching for a solution, it just won't charge the battery. I've not tried observed it enough but I believe it will charge while powered off, but not while on. The orange LED indicator by the AC adapter port glows when the machine is off, indicating that it is charging.
I have a feeling the whole "uninstall device drivers for the battery devices" idea is a thing of the past. Everything I found which suggested doing that also mentioned Windows Vista, which at this point in time is a relic (July 2015). When I was replacing the CPU fan, it did get frustrating at times but everything is intact apart from some case clips and a few other plastic case parts. I have reason to believe everything is connected too because its still powered on, meaning its getting power, but it isn't going in to the battery.
    Symptom summary:
    Batteries: OKAC Adapter: OK
    MOBO: PROBABLY OK
    ME: NOT OK   xD

  • What TEMP is the HD reaching when these things get hot?

I read on another page that powerbook fans didn't kick on until the temp reached 141. I believe the top operating temp for the harddrive is 131. Hs there been a history of HD failure in powerbooks? Is the same senario taking place in the macbook?
I am concerned because I plan to swap my HD and I don't think it will be covered by the warranty if it fails.
    Thanks Kalel

  • The CPU fan starts with the case switch on and the system stops after 2 seconds

    Hi,
I have just bought the MSI K8N Neo FSR (MS 7030) to build a new computer with (amongst others) an Athlon 64 3000 processor and an Enermax 3051 case.
The CPU fan starts when I switch on the power with the switch on the back of the case, but stops after two seconds. I don't get anything when I push the Start button of the case.
At the beginning I got some feeble orange light on the D-bracket LEDs. Now, there is nothing at all.
I have tried to do a CMOS and also to put the Mobo out of the case after having disconnected the HD, the DVD reader, the floppy disk reader and all the Front panel connectors ===> nothing changed.
The Power capacity of my case is 300 watts. I had computed on Power Supply Wattage Calculator (http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/Power_Supply_Calculator.php?cmd=AMD) that it is quite sufficient for my system.
Other materials on my system: the MSI FX5200-T and a PQI RAM PC 3200 which worked well on a former MSI Mobo (K7N2 Delta). I don't intend to keep this RAM on my new system but I use it to test it, before installing the Corsair Value which are on the system with which I write this post.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Finally, it appears that I had damaged the motherboard and the CPU.
When I installed the CPU, I hesitated because the User's guide said that "the gold arrow should point towards the lever pivot", whereas the illustration and the AMD's one pointed towards the opposite corner. I had finally made the good choice (that of the illustrations), but I have certainly displaced some pins of the processor while hesitating.
The shopper told me that MSI will never agree that its text had troubled me and refused to give me a new motherboard.
I have finally bought an ASUS motherboard and, as I was fed up with the computer building, I paid a technician to do this job.
I would like to mention two other mistakes in the MSI K8N Neo User's guide:
    - it devoted one page to the installation of the retention mechanism which was already installed.
    - there was no explanation about the mention of two "Power LED" connectors.
I acknowledge that I have been stupid, since I should have asked the question of the direction of the golden arrow in a forum, where I would have found very quckly the right answer to my hesitation.
However, I am revolted that MSI does not acknowledge that a grave mistake and two troubling omissions in the User's Guide can lead novice people to grave failures.
I'll never more have confidence in a company that make such mistakes and does not assume its responsibility.
Once again, thank you for your help.

  • What privileges for the DB account used by client connect to server?

Hello, After I installed the SBO server packages, I found that it must set DB account in the client side.
I had tried 'sa' account, it works. but I thought we should not leave the super account in each client side.
So I want to know what privileges should be assiged to the account in SQL Server?
Or somewhere already have documents to say how to build up the client account.
    thanks.

  • What is a safe temperature for the CPU?

My new MBP's CPU is running at around 55-65 degrees idle, and upper 70's to low/mid 80's when doing anything intensive. (According to iStat widget)
I was wondering if this is normal or safe, as according to
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/366/2
The max temperature should be 60.1 degrees Celsius
    Message was edited by: CCDwyer

My pleasure. Thanks for the star!
By the way, the temps you report are normal. Above ~65 C the fans speed to to provide more cooling (they idle at ~1000 rpm or ~2000 rpm depending on model, and have a max speed of 6000 rpm.

  • At what temp does the fan hit 100%? NX8800GT OC 512mb

It says in Rivatuner that it's set at 29% auto control, at what point does it speedup? BTW is it safe to follow this fan speed guide? Link here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/article/449/1/
    Thanks.

I have the same problem: the card shows freaking squares during games randomly.
Setting up the speed manually to 50% solves the problem.
I touched the surface of the cooler before that: it gets really hot close to the DVI-Ports, that is where the issues are.
Anyways, that was reason enough for me to modify a BIOS.
The BIOS in the attachment is the newest by eVGA, which adjusts the fan speed. I just adjusted the clocks, and the vendor IDs and stuff, so it is shown as MSI card.
The BIOS Version is: 62.92.24.00.01 compared to MSI's 62.92.16.00.04!
Google for the flash procedure! You will void the warranty, and I am not responsible if you mess this up! I tested the BIOS and it solved my problems.
In the rar-file you'll find the original eVGA and MSI BIOS, NiBiTor and the MSI_new.rom, which is the modified file.
CHeck the BIOS and compare them, if you don't trust me, which I totally understand!
Handle with care, this might kill your card!

  • MSI 990FXA-GD80 voltage control over 1.44V for the CPU FX-8320

    Hi there!
    MSI 990FXA-GD80
Can anybody help me with overclocking with this board? The voltage looks locked
and can't push more than 1.44V.
    Any solution/fix?
This does not work after 1.44V.
    Kind regards

I know this is a little late but over the last 3yrs I had much time to play with this board.
The board is a beast and its very tricky.  most people think this board has a locked cpu voltage
but thats not true.  theres a couple ways to access the voltage.  the first way is control center.
or if you clear the bios by pushing the clear cmos tab in back then when you restart it hit f1 to enter first time setup
go straight to overclocking features 2nd down on the left side, go right to the vcore and it should show all the way to 2+ volts
i believe. I currently have a msi 990fxa-gd80v2 board with a fx8320 cpu and i overclock it acording to the seasons.  as crazy as that sounds.  in the winter i can get 4.9ghz stable off it and in the summer i like to run it around 4.5 to 4.6ghz.
the board is very basic and practically overclocks itself. the voltage is way way off though.  at 1.62000 voltage the board is actually at around 1.46v to 1.49v no one really know exactly where until you use cpuz on it. i run it at 22x210fsb at 1.58000 to 1.62000v the ram is gskill 1600 ripjaw x  .  the set the ram voltage at 1.503v at ddr3-1600 in the drop down with a 10xht and 10nb multi and i unlink the timings so the board can autodetect the timings and it does it all basically for me.  i have a corsair h100i water cooler and the temps dont go above 46c under full loads, and the chipset runs at 48c no higher.  this is by far the best 990 board known to man.  i have owned 6 or 7 others from asus, gigabyte, asrock ect.  and its wipes the floor with them.  i also have a asrock 990fx extreeme 3 board with a 8120 and that board also overclocks well.  but not nearly as well as this board matter of fact not even close to the speeds of this board.  i will say though.
i had to rma this board twice and now i have to rma it again but a fan header died on it for no reason and the fastboot option keeps giving me a 67 code display on the error and wont even post if i enable it.  i wont buy another board because there are none at the quality and overclock ability and stable.  i see that person saying the board dont overclock or it wasnt made to.  lol..  it was and oh  boy it is.  just be patient.  and dont ever waste your money on intel.  youll be paying for the name.  ill put my 8320 against any i5 and most i7's running the same hardware. I boot alot of machines and i see them everyday the intels are not anything they claim them to be.  in real home use computing the amd is overall faster.  I believe i have side by side machines booting at the same time and the amds are faster.   booting as far as format and installing windows.

  • Rev b 20" - In for treatment - cpu fan +

    Hi,
I'll try and keep this up to date for you in case you have similar.
Took iMac 20" rev b into Apple Store Birmingham this afternoon for them to investigate and resolve:
    Whirring cpu fan
    Slight buzzing on power supply
Bubblng on har drive coating (the black body coating)
5 mths old, whirring has always been there but the irritation it causes has become too much, for a premium product I do not expect this cranking up sound, makes it feel cheap, which it certainly was not.
I have been through online chat/ordered ne upper fans/ to no avail.
Bit concerned at the moment as the genius told me a new logic board will sort. I told him I found it hard to believe that a new logic board would resolve fan vibration, he then asked if he should have the fan replaced (like I'd know, he's the genius!!)
Apparently should have it back soon so will have to live with new iBook until then (looks a bit silly with Elgato eyeTV on it though as I have replaced the main TV with this now)

    Edward,
Perhaps one of your fingers slips off the keys.
When doing a PRAM reset, the process isn't over until one breaks the cycle, so yes, my screen shows nothing while I'm holding. I may be mistaken, but I'm not aware that a long PRAM reset risks any damage. I've held the keys down for as long as a dozen chords [never needed to on the iMac, but other Macs], when I've been frustrated enough {:-) They always seem to be timed at equal intervals. By the way, it seems to me that after the first chord, the following chords are heard at a lower volume, but I don't know why. [generally, I have my sound level maxed]

  • How can I change what shows in the Application Fan?

    Hiyas,
I've been trying to find an answer to this problem and gotten nowhere fast:
On the dock, there is my applications folder and you click it and you have some options of how it displays but basically it shows you what's in your applications folder.
The problem is that it shows me Automator and Chess and Amazon MP3 Downloader, and Dashboard and then a note that there are 48 more in finder. Clearly it's listing alphabetically, and I know how I could right click and adjust it by a variety of dates, but mostly I just want to see some icons of stuff that I actually use. I don't need Automator, I don't play Chess on my Mac and the Amazon MP3 Downloader is an abomination of DRM management that I only tolerate because it's necessary (very rarely).
Is there someway I can get the Applications fan on my dock to actually show icons for programs that I use? Like I said, I don't use "Automator" very often, I'd rather it put Spotify in it's place but I've just got no idea how because A is a long way before S and the dates that both items were created/modified etc. is irrelevant. Thoughts?

I found myself a sort of workaround for not being able to change the actual applications folder.
Create a new folder with the aliases of the applications that you do use, and placing the folder on the Dock for access. I keep that folder in the Applications Folder, which makes it easier to drag and drop aliases into it
You get to have a more personalized grouping of the applications you use the most, and avoid cluttering up your dock, while still getting the fan/ grid view out of it. which im guessing was the OP's target goal
