What the best format for compression to DVD

I have a 18.91gb .mov file that I made of FCP and I want to compress it with out losing to mush quality, to be able to fit on to a DVD.
So my question is which of the compression settings should I pick to start of with.
Thanks

Compressor is doing a HD to SD conversion in addition to creating a MPG-2 file.
I have had video turn out wonderful using this work flow and other times I have not.
In worst case scenarios I have ended up doing the SD conversion in FC and then creating the MPG-2 from the SD FC export.
If you have problems or are not happy with the final compression you may want to do a test on a problem scene with the above work flow and see if you get better results. Whenever I have had compressor issues this has solved it.

  • Best Format for compression

I have some very large QT files, about 16-18GB each that I need to put onto a DVD to play in a DVD player. What is the best format to compress them into so that the movie looks good when played on a regular TV and DVD player? I use Compressor so if you are familiar with that and know a good one to use, let me know. Thanks very much.

If possible, something more specific than "the normal 2 hr compression" would be a better help. Which format specifically.
"Normal" depends on your content and and what you intend to do with it. Most DV compressed files are, on the average, between 12 and 13 GBs per hour depending on content. Thus, an 18 GB file would likely be 80-90 minutes in duration. Add a menu or two and any possible incidentals (previews, photos, slideshows, etc), as well as, not knowing if you are going with AIFF (PCM) or AC3 compressed audio, Figured it better to err on the safe side and suggest a two hour setting unless you know the movie play time is well under 90 minutes. Assumed you would then pick a specific setting to match your specific content (16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio) and the specific quality desired (best quality/2-pass or the fastest encode/single-pass).
However, if you have Ti Toast, then, as QTKirk indicated, it would likely be the best choice here. Simply drop the edited/standalone (or even a reference) file onto Toast and allow it to automatically encode to fit and create the menu(s)/or auto-start w/o menu as desired.

  • The best format for output

    Hi All,
working in animation project to be broadcasted on a TV channel as HD1080 50i,
1- all the animation layers was rendered from TOONBOOM as .SWF to keep it in vector for compositing issue.
Dose SWF lose any quality? we always use TGA sequence with alpha in our past SD projects but now we found SWF is a smaller file size and allows zooming Because it keeps all vector lines.
2- compositing each scene in after effects cs6 and then render them.
What is the best format for output to deal with premiere cs6 as a real time playback ( my editing pc includes gtx680 4gb., many HGST 3tb with raid controller,64g ram, aja kona 3g) so do I go with TGA sequence (I think it will destroy the raid Because of the large number of small-sized files in read and write ) or MOV uncompressed (I'm afraid of the space size and don’t know it will play in real time ) or what is the best compressed format Maintaining video image quality as its now will be my only master source?
    Many thanks,
    sherif

    Thanks Rick for your reply,
Regarding the SWF i moved to flash pro forums and they are supporting me now,
My system is a pc, win.64, I7-3930K, 64G RAM, EVGA GTX680 4G, Many HGST 3TB with raid controler,
Some advised me to go with Quicktime Prores HQ or DNXHD or DPX ,
In this year project my client's requirement for delivery is :
DNxHD 120 Codec, wrapped with QuickTime rapper, which means a file with MOV extension and the codec used is DNxHD 120 ( 1080@50i HD)
So do i work with dnxhd 120 from the beginning to the delivery? (and it will be my only master source) or another format encode it at the end to dnxhd 120? ( i will distribut this project to many channels after the first run exclusivity period end with different requirements).
    Thanks,
    Sherif

  • Whats the best option for passing parameters between tf?

    Dear All,
    I have three Task Flows:
    1. TF1
         -  Main Taskflow that calls a web service to gather its data
    2. TF2
         -  Secondary taskflow which receives a parameter and depending on the value of the parameter received will display its data accordingly.  Generally any data
         is feed from TF1
    3. TF3
         -  Same as TF2Use Case:
All three TF will be dropped to the page as Regions in a Webcenter Portal Application. Changes in TF1 should propagate into TaskFlow 2.
    Question:
    1. How do I configure that changes in TF1 would be propagated back into task flow 2 and 3 and whats the best option for this?
    2. At runtime, user can choose to edit the page and TF2 and TF3 can be deleted but TF 1 should remain as the source of information.
    Given the scenario above:
    - shall I wire the taskflows via page parameters?
    - contextual events?
What are the considerations that needs to be thought of. I havent done such requirements before.
    Please help.
    Webcenter 11.1.1.6

Contextual events seem to be the best case.
This way you can trigger whenever you want. Web services can be slow so you can trigger the event when the gathering of the data has been finished and then pass some value on the event.
An event also has a payload so it's an ideal scenario to add the data from the service on it so you can use it in the other TF's.
In order to manage the deletion of the TF1, you can use the UI events on the composer: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_page_editor_adv.htm#CHDHHFDJ

Whats the best software for photo editing and creating product catalogues that can be saved as PDF's

You are asking two different questiions:
    1. What's a good photo editor? Answer to that here is probably obvious.
    2. What's a good desktop publishing/page layout program for creating PDF files for production? Answer, not PSE. It's a photo editor, not a page layout program.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Mac?
Export your Timeline content to a .mp4 file, using export settings which have been customized under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the export's preset.
See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and .mp4 category. The exported file is then uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
If you post the properties of your source video and project settings, I will suggest the settings for the Timeline content export to file saved to the computer
hard drive for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site.

Hi, i want to buy a licence of Creative Cloud, but i have one question... Whats the best choose for a little enterprise?? And if i buy a Single Person Licence, on how many pc's can i install the suite??
    Thanks for helping

    no, that's incorrect.
you can activate on 1 mac and 1 pc, or 2 pc's, or 2 mac's, concurrently.
i have cc installed on 2 pcs and 1 mac.  i can only activate 2 at any one time which works well for me because my pcs are at home and my office and i use them most of the time.
but when i travel i take my macbook so i just deactivate one or both of my pcs (uninstalling is not needed) and sign in to my macs cc app.

  • What is the best format for ripping CD's to get the best quality?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I wanted to see what was the latest thinking.  Any ideas of the additional Hard Drive usage?  Thanks

    mysteryroach wrote:
My questions are: What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format?
It is a matter of opinion, but I suggest 256 kb/s, CBR, and leave all other settings on automatic.
Will I be able to burn cd mixes with the tracks I import into itunes after importing using the AAC format?
Yes. Just put them in a playlist and burn.
Does the AAC format have VBR like the MP3 format?
Yes. You will see it as an option in the Import Settings.
Is there other ripping software such as dbPoweramp and Exact Audio Copy that does a better job ripping cd's in the AAC format?
EAC does a better job of correcting errors in damaged CDs, but for normal CDs iTunes does a fine job of ripping to AAC.

  • Adobe v. Apple - Flash v. H.264 - what's the best format for web?

So the iPad doesn't support flash.  I guess that means that if I upload my projects as flv's or f4v's and use a flash player then the apple obsessed people won't be able to watch my videos
    http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/05/02/apple-vs-adobe-is-flash-dying/
Personally, I don't really care if flash lives or dies.  I just want to be able to publish videos that anyone can watch in a player that anyone can use without having to download a plugin.  SO, what is the best format to use?
To date, I've been shooting my footage in HD 1920x1080i, saving my PE projects as MPEG2 HD 1080i, and then converting to f4v's.  Now I'm wondering if I should be saving them using the H.264 preset instead and then presumably some lower quality settings for the web file?  And if so, what kind of end user player should I be looking for?
    Help anyone?

Well, unfortunately Flash was the universal format, and then Steve Jobs decided that he did not like Adobe. As most browsers on Earth were FLV playback enabled and if not, were only a quick, free download away. Now, it seems that Apple's devices will only work with flavors of MOV. One can still download and install Apple's QT Player (though several recent versions did not work well with Adobe programs - Steve Jobs sabotage?).
Instead of coming together on universal formats/CODEC's, it seems that many wish to fragment the market to support just their products. One is at the mercy of these hardware and software companies. Producers probably should now do several versions of everything, if they wish to cover all bases. Someone will have to download and install something.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What is the best format for a image with transparency?

If I create an image in PhotoShop with Transparency, what is the best format and size to save it in for it to work in FCE?

    Did that link help you?
    Thanks Tom.
    The link helped.
FCE kept crashing when I put the image on the time line and I figured out that it probably had to do with the size of the image that I was using. It was 4656x3400 and CMYK.
Once I reduced it and changed to RGB it worked.
    Love your new book!

  • What's the best format for archiving for future hi res?

    Hello,
    I've got FCP 6 running on OS X 10.6.8.
If I upgrade the system I'll have to upgrade FCP and will lose a lot of my old video files in the process (at least it'll take a LOT of work to get them back to the way they were.)
So I'd like to save my videos in the best resolution for future use. At this point I've only got copies for hi res YouTube and standard res DVDs.
In the future I might want to go to Blu Ray or whatever else is current. What's the best file type to save them out as?
Also, should I do this through Compressor or straight from FCP 6?
I know hard drives fail, so what would also be the best way to store them? Thumb drives? Data DVDs?
    Thanks.

    Neal Fox wrote:
...  I know hard drives fail, so what would also be the best way to store them? Thumb drives? Data DVDs?
All media can fail ... my first home-made DVDs were killed just by letting them lay in the bright sunlight for 20 minutes ...
So, aside 'future-proof codecs', for long-term strorage a smart back-up-strategy is essential.
And here come hard-drives back again into the game:
to copy/clone a hard-drive, you simply drag the content from Drive#A to Drive#B - done. (no need to watch the time-bar grow...)
to copy 'disks' ... that is a more complex procedure... not to mention, a disk doesn't fit as much data as a drive, so you have to repeat that steps multiple times.
There are no numbers avail about non-mechanical storage media (sticks, SDcrads, SSDs) on the log run...I 'killed' several sticks and SDcards, just by using them.-
Magnetic media ... hmmm, older audio-tapes got rust; a German manufacturer (BASF) got 'famous' in the late 60ies for using the wrong 'glue', so the iron particles felt off from the plastics after some decades of storage..
    Finally, 'hardware' - anybody remembering SCSI? 5 1/4" floppies?? MO-drives? ................. (firewire < chuckle> )
You can actually read a 500y old Gutenberg Bible, but in 50y, most of our 'data' is gone, poof, nirvana....
    (no, I'm not grumpy )

  • What is the best format for a master?

    Hi,
I am about to send my master for replication. Can anybody tell me what is the best format I should save my songs into? I want to avoid any complains that my CD is not "compatible" with someone's CD player.
Also, any pointers on how to burn my master CD (slowest speed, etc.) to get the best sound quality I can get from Logic Pro?
As always, thank you sooo much. :>
    Anya

    Hi,
Your master should be dithered (assuming you started off in 24bit) to 16bit and 44.1 - which is cd quality. Whether it is in aiff. or wav before you burn to CD is not an issue.
As for the CD itself - use Waveburner to burn the master disk as this burns it to red book compliant quality. In regards to the speed - i tend to burn cd's at 4x as a sound guy friend a fw years ago informed me this would reduce the possibility of errors on a burned cd. If you want to be sure burn it slower even!
The most important thing is to bounce your tracks down to 44.1 and use Logic's dithering options when making the tracks 16bit too.
    Hope that helps,
    Rounik
