WHAT THE @@@ happened with Mail Merge for Pages ?

This was a great feature and it appears it is NO LONGER AVAILABLE Greta option to merge with Address book
Can anyone enlightenen me as to
am I wrong
if right, why the change ?
is it too be replaced ?

Thank you for your valuable Tip of resorting back to Pages 09!
After 10 years of switching to "Apple", of buying all their products (iPhone, iPad, etc), I'm still struggling with the imperfections of "Pages" compared to  "Word". Inspite of that, I execute 90 % of my corresponce on "Pages" just because of the possiblity, to manage all of my personal information, i.e. addresses etc, on one platform. (For serious text work, I still use "Word".)
The sensible tendency of "Apple", to lure you into the "cloud" is frightening because at the same time they convey you the feeling, that your very own data is not your property any more:
- If you disconect your addressbook from the cloud, it may be completely erased on your own computer
- Synchronizing of your data is forced more and more on the cloud
- Personal  information is hidden folders with limited or no access.
Of course, I'm lured by the convenience of easy use, yet I think, that this policy of "Apple" is a dead end road. They should at least give you an option!

  • What the **** happened with Mail? HELP!

I just upgraded to Leopard, and downloaded and installed all system updates. Now my Mail doesn't work properly. When I click on the mail I appeared running in the dock, but I can't see it. I clicked on Window, and selected Message Viewer to see what's in my Inbox and compose email. Now I can't quit the Mail normally. I have to Force Quit it all the time. I can not send/receive mail either. I checked the account details and it's correct.

Additional info for above process (I encountered same upgrade problem), to recover the "old" mailboxes/messages.
    After a Restart and opening Mail, the Continue action imports account data, BUT the prior boxes & messages could be MIA (missing), _as apakhlev warns_. IF you have a backup copy or the mailboxes actually still are on the HD, you may be-in-luck. Mailboxes you have created can be Imported by the Mail app. I'm uncertain about the higher level (Inbox) and did not find prior messages it contained. For the moment, anything in the Inbox has not displayed. It may, or may not be recoverable. Nonetheless, here's what HAS been successful on a G4 iMac;
Open Mail app. From the Menu slide to File and drop down to "Import Mailboxes...". Routing I used - should be close for us "basic users"; /Users>UserName>Library>Mail>Mailboxes. Import the Mailboxes. Wanting to ensure a clean opening of Mail, I did Restart. You decide!
    Living resumed (e-mail returned) <smile>.

  • Mail Merge for Word - Limitations?

I have been searching for information on the Mail Merge for Word in the help files and tutorials. I am trying to verify the limitations, such as
Can Lotus Notes be used to send the email? (I am 90% sure we have to use Outlook, however I would like to clarify)
How many emails can you send?
Are there any other limitations I should be aware of?

I have confirmed on the Lotus Notes question.
I installed the Mail Merge for Word Template on a machine that only had Lotus Notes as an email client. When I choose to send an email, it gave only the option to "Merge to Document".
So The answer would be that Outlook is required to send emails with Mail Merge for Word.

  • Mail merge in Pages using Address Book - problem with fields

I am a fan of using the many of the Mac OS, iLife and other Apple applications together and just purchased iWork '09. I'd never done mail merges in previous versions of Pages, but I decided to try today with my Address Book data. I stumbled across some problems related to Address Book that have bothered me for some time and wonder if there is a simple go-around. Many of the cards in my Address Book have more than one line in the street address field. For example, they have street and street number in one line and the apartment number in the second. When Pages encounters such vCards in my Address Book, it doesn't know what to do and skips the next line of the address, which includes city, state and zipcode. I have also altered my Address Book template to include such things as the person's college (as I work with lots of college students), but this field is not recognized in Pages' mail merge feature. So, if I put the college name at the beginning of the street field in Address Book (which is what I have done until today), I can get excellent mail labels to print from Address Book, but I now I realize that this causes the mail merge problems in Pages described above. If I list the college elsewhere in the vCard, such as under the guise of "department" (an accepted field for mail merge in Pages), I lose the ability to get accurate mail labels in Address Book. Any ideas?

Page's Mail Merge doesn't show up any "Custom" fields in its list?

  • Why doesn't mail merge in Pages reflect changes made to the numbers source document?

When using mail merge in a Pages envelope document, changes made to its Numbers address source document are not reflected.  I have to create a whole new Pages envelope document and choose the Numbers address source document merge fields all over again.
I never had any trouble doing this with Word and Exell!
    What am I doing wrong?

    Denney,
Mail Merge from Numbers works just as you are trying to use it.
You create a Numbers document with the proper layout for merging.
Enter the data in teh numbers document and Save it.
You create a Pages Document to merge into and create the links to the Numbers document.
You Edit > Mail Merge in Pages.
To merge again from the Numbers document, make the necessary edits, Save the Numbers document and do the mail merge again in the Pages document that you created for that purpose. The only problem that normally arises is that we forget to Save the Numbers document after editing.

  • What WordStar 3.01 can do in Mail Merge that Pages '09 can't.

I have a Bento database. I want to print contra dances from it on 3x5 index cards. I can save the database as a Numbers worksheet with all the data I want on it. I SHOULD be able to use the fields from that Numbers file to create a Pages document that merges, using that data, to print on the index cards.
Meanwhile, Apple apparently thinks that addresses are the only kind of data anybody could ever want to merge in a document. This is a stupid limit. Your programmers are unnecessarily standing between me and a reasonable expectation of what your software ought to do.
I could do this in WordStar in the mid 1980s on a Commodore 128 running CP/M. I could do it in WordPerfect under DOS. I can do it in Word in Windows, and I HATE Windows.
Why can't I do it in Pages on my Mac?

I hacked my way to the answer before reading your good advice. I see three problems here:
    1. As you say, the tutorial materials are vague and fail to explain how the feature works or how to get to the feature.
    Agreed
    2. The "Edit:Merge" menu option is greyed out until you add a Merge Field, so you can't connect to a Numbers data source until AFTER you have chosen your first Merge field, which presumes you are using the address book, so the first field has to be an Address Book field even if the eventual document doesn't have any Address Book fields in it.
    No.
    Have you tried my instructions?
All you need is a Numbers spreadsheet with the appropriate headers in it. Link to that and then you can merge to those revealed headers.
    3. There is apparently a "magic number" bug in Mail Merge in Pages. Since I couldn't connect to a data source until after inserting the first Address Book field and I was working with bad advice from the tutorial, I inserted 14 fields, creating my own cross-reference table in a separate document to tell me which Address Book Field to map each Numbers file Merge Field to.
Again, why are you insisting on barking up the wrong tree, and arguing with the koalas that they aren't pandas?
When I actually got around to mapping the fields, I hit the magic number 13 and instead of seeing Numbers fields to map to, I saw Address Book fields again. I tried deleting the field and creating a new one and got a repeat of the Edit:Merge window now pointing to the Address Book. When I once again pointed it to the Numbers file, all the fields I had mapped changed their names to the actual Numbers fields, and when I went to create the new field, the list of choices were from the Numbers file instead of the Address Book.
Haven't a clue what this is supposed to mean, and why you are still futzing about in Address Book.
So, I got what I wanted, though I wasted a lot of time unnecessarily using Address Book fields and remapping them to the Numbers fields, and I'm still hampered by the lack of Conditional Merge Fields. From Bento, I have a field named "Becket" that has either a "0" or a "1". I'd like to type the word "Becket" on the card if it is "1" and not type anything if it is "0". I could do that in Wordstar, etc.
    Why?
It seems that in Pages, I have to tweak the data itself, wrestling with Numbers to replace all "1"s in that column with "Becket" and replace all the "0"s with empty cells. It's a lot more of a tedious process in Numbers than it would be if I just had a conditional Merge field.
Can't follow what this has to do with a simple merge which is where you started.

  • What's the deal with Mail!

    Hello helpers,
What's it with Mail, just added the new security update and need to re-set up all my Mail account. Will this always happen with this application! Mail can be frustrating at times! Anyone knows why this is happen and what can be done to resolve this issue!

    Powerbooks G4/1.04 & G3 Lombard-400 & PB3400   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    You're welcome.
But when I open an already sent mail I see my soccer ball in the right corner.
This isn't a problem or issue with Mail - this is a feature and is normal. Your soccer ball in the right corner of sent messages is your chosen icon under the Picture tab for your login account preferences. This is also your "Me" photo for your contact information in Address Book. This is not sent with your messages and you can remove it from your contact information in Address Book which will also remove it as your icon under the Picture tab for your login account preferences.
You can add a photo for a contact in Address Book and when receiving a message from the contact, the photo will appear in the same location with all received messages from the contact. I have an actual photo of myself as my "Me" photo in Address Book and the photo appears in the same location for all my sent messages but it isn't sent with my messages.
Just reading Mail discussion, there are issues with this software.
There are issues with this software and issues with all software including OS X but you can't base much on these Discussions which is like a hospital ward for Macs - nothing but problems are reported here. You don't visit a local hospital where you live seeing most of the rooms filled with patients and leave thinking everyone is sick and dying where you live.
Visit Thunderbird's equivalent of these Discussions and you will see it full of posts with people having problems or issues with Thunderbird.
I've experienced very few problems with Mail which has always been very reliable for me with Jaguar, Panther and now Tiger.
I have always use software update but never check to see that all applications are closed before doing so.
You should get in the habit of quitting all applications before installing any type of update available via Software Update and especially before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.9 and disconnect all external peripheral devices except a keyboard and mouse beforehand also. There is much going on under the hood when installing updates so all this is good practice.

  • Does anyone know if pages get an update soon with mail merge? ore do i have to buy open office?

does anyone know if pages get an update soon with mail merge? ore do i have to buy open office?

Apple has not made worthwhile changes to Pages v5 for nearly 18 months, so it is unlikely that they will have a surge of conscience over missing features.
If you have an iWork '09 DVD, and the Apple 9.3 updater, use that as it has mail merge and 100+ additional features built-in. Otherwise, you can download LibreOffice, or OpenOffice (order by functionality) Office suites for free. I use LibreOffice myself.

  • What is happening with quote substitution in Mail since Mountain Lion?

What is happening with quote substitution in Mail since Mountain Lion? Now, whenever I type an apostrophe and it's replaced with a smart quote, it creates an unwanted space within my word and starts typing from there. It will also revert the font from my template style to helvetica. Annoying as heck! Any thoughts? Turning off smart quote substition in Mail elimates the error, but elimates the smart qoute, too. I'm stumped.

Any body know what is happening with this app "eTodo" ? is no more in the iTunes store !
I have this problem for one year I think and no one can’t solve that,I made 6 screen shots and I will uploading in a few seconds all of them and please just check them !
My problem is: I bought an application last year and after some time I had lost the app from my iTunes store.
Now,what I want to do is: I want to get that app again, but I could not find anywhere in the iTunes  store, websites ,nobody could not help me with that
The app has been deleted from everywhere !

If the app is no longer in the store then you won't be able to redownload it. You don't have a copy of it in your computer's iTunes library or on your backup of your downloads/library so that you can sync it back to your phone ?

  • What will happen with the code?

What will happen with the code below?
    for (i=0; i<=10000; i++)
    Object[] obj = new Object[5];
In every loop, a new Array of Object wll be created. Will the Array of Object created in the
current loop( for example, i=2001), eliminate the Array of Object created in previous loop
(for example, i=2000 or 1999)? How the memory is allocated in every loop?
    Thanks.

Each time through the loop, an array of five Object references is created. A reference to this array is assigned to the reference variable obj, causing the previously allocated array to be unreachable (except the first time through the loop, if obj was originally null). The garbage collector will collect these unreachable arrays if the memory gets low.

  • If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

Lion will run on most Intel machines. It will not run on the following machines:
MacBook Pro (sold before October 2006)
    MacBook (sold before November 2006)
Mac Mini (sold before August 2007)
    iMac (sold before September 2006)
It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo (or later CPU). Those machines listed above were all Intel Core Duo machines and with the exception of one of the Mac Minis, an Intel Core Solo. So we're talking 4+ year old machines. I have not tested Lion on a machine with anything less than 2GB of RAM.
Wikipedia has a pretty good public summation of what's known so far and it's quite accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion
The biggest thing of note so far is that you cannot install/run Rosetta. Which maybe problematic for some users.

I don't understand what's happening with my Music. All the songs that I purchased, that were previously on my phone, now show up with a Cloud next to them, but I can't play them. If I touch the Cloud, it turns into a red square, acts like it's downloading (which I can see happening in iTunes), but never downloads. The Cloud just stays there.
I've sync'd my phone, I've turned it to "show all music" in Settings, I've drag and dropped the songs/albums onto my phone again. I feel like I've tried everything I've seen recommended, but nothing works.
I've purchased a lot of music from iTunes. It should be there. What's going on?
P.S. Same thing happening with my purchased books. Ugh.

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.
