What the **** is happening here?

I have had this problem for years and can't figure it out. When I have iTunes open (either mini-player or not) whenever I switch spaces ITunes travels to the new space. I have tried every configuration in the Mission Control preference and nothing seems to change this behavior. I've also mucked around in every iTunes preference I can find and nothing I change will keep iTunes in its own space. This happens on a 2010 Mac Mini regardless of the OS. I just upgraded to Yosemite hoping that would solve the problem but the problem is still there. I have three different Macs I work on and have used spaces extensively for years. The Mac Mini is the only one that exhibits this behavior and for the life of me I can not figure out this problem. Any advice?

Wow! That did it. That particular preference doesn't seem to appear anywhere except in the breakout menu from a control-click. Thanks for solving this problem that's puzzled me since I bought the Mac Mini 4 years ago for a media server.

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then make sure that Session is unchecked in the settings for the Firefox application.

No, I'm the only one with access to my computer. I deleted all the unwanted songs and I hope they stay deleted. I found all my original songs in another folder. How they got there, I'll never know. It took a while, but I got all my songs back in the iTunes music library where they were before I got tangled up in this iTunes Match boondoggle. Apple has a ways to go before I'll mess with it again. By the way, you have to watch out for sisters.

The whole library only updates "last played" for about 1 in 20 songs. This is really screwing up my lists that I use as backgrounds for a lot of activities in my classroom at school.

FYI, I've found that Live Updating can SORT OF work. It seems if you only have two rules, live upating works (IE, I have one that is a Rating must be 3-5*'s and last played cannot be within the last 8 weeks). Once the song is played it disapears off the playlist. BUT, as soon as I try to add a third rule, it doesn't work anymore! This is unfortunate because two rules really limits the ability of the playlist...

As of recently my iTunes has been having some problems. I have about 10,000 songs on my iTunes and I have had no problems until the other night when I went to listen to a song (Slap Happy's "Riding Tigers") and it came up as Louden Wainwright's "Swimming Song" and therefore deleting the Slap Happy song. It has been doing this at random from artists as diverse as Mozart to Charlie Parker. I don't know what the problem is and I fear if I continue to explore it myself I may lose half my music library. Also, when I right click a song to "Find" the file it pops up as a completely different song/artist. I don't get it. Can anyone help?

I'm sure with a collection that large you don't have to be told about proper back ups, it would be disastrous to lose all that music.
The music is likely still there in iTunes Music but something is corrupting your library data file, the itl.
What's running on your computer that could do this and did your computer come with any pre-installed media software, Sony Vaios are notorious for causing trouble with their included media management software, or have you installed any desktop search software?
Lastly, run a malware scan.

What the hell happened?

Firefox upgraded itself without asking and now every time I open a message, a quarter of my screen is occupied by a window that shows me the routing information and gives me some "cute" buttons to perform the same functions on the message that Firefox allready has on the header.
How can I disable this bullshit part of the new "improved" user interface?
I've tried right clicking on the window but all it allows me to do, is to change those fucking "cute" buttons to icons, words or icons & words, but not disble the fucking window.
I've tried the settings menu, but there is no way to find what I want to do. I managed to restore my settings to normal, but lo and behold, my normal is not without that fucking routing information window.
So please tell me how I can get rid of that screen hogging unneseccary information that you think is mandatory for everyone to see.

Int to Char...I don't know what the problem is here

Everything compiles fine here, and if I print out the "encryption" variable I get what looks like it would be right, converted into chars, but when I try to convert the int to char(my char variable for that is 'w'), my compiler freaks out, I don't even know what it's doing it doesn't give me an error, but sometimes it prints out nothing but sometimes it prints out "puTTypUTtypuTTYPUtty" ...why is it doing that and what is wrong with what I am doing?.

And for that matter, use increment/decrement assignment operators (like += and -=) instead of verbosely repeating the variable. And if you're going to use character-by-character case conversion, use the methods in Character don't do it like a C programmer circa 1982. And if this is anything other than a homework assignment, use encryption code provided in the JDK; don't reinvent it.

PPro, AME, and CUDA: What's Actually Happening Here?

I bit the bullet and picked up a new Quadro 4K for my Mac Pro. The videos I'll be making with Premiere Pro will include a scaled-down multi-cam PiP, which the CUDA processors can clearly help with. However, I'm a bit puzzled by something: what's actually going on here behind the scenes, so-to-speak? I'm coming at this question from a software/computer geek perspective, not from a video editing one. I'm sincerely interested in what's going on between PPro, AME, and the nVidia card.
First off, I asked this question back in July. At the end of the thread, Todd says that if I queue up the export with AME, then the rendering would be done by the CPU. Fair enough, but something else is going on with AME and the nVidia card. If I enable the GPU in PPro and then export it through AME, the AME log looks like this:

A noteworthy difference in time. Further, during the first export in AME, the GPU is definitely being used at about 33% or so. So clearly it's doing something. What I'm curious to know is: what? Is it actually doing the rendering of the PiP while AME is exporting the video? Or... ?

Right Harm, I'm certain that the PiP scaling is what's causing the immense difference in exporting (encoding) times. But what I'm curious to know is: why is it mattering when I punt to AME? To me, it implies that either:
PPro is continuing to do some of the work during the export, in the background, even though AME is open and working, or
AME is actually making use of the video card.
That's why I'm curious about this and wondering what's going on from a technical perspective.

all the threads are "unread" and my id has magically changed. did i get flagged by "the man" or something? i'm going to try simply changing it back, but i wanted someone to see this... screenshot follows. i did NOT change my id or in any way mess with my preferneces. haven't been in there (prefs) for a month or more.

i was thinking that, but it seems to have cleared up...
full scenario.
i came into work and unlocked my system (had remained on all night - xp pro sp3, firefox 3.0.10).
i noticed i was STILL LOGGED IN HERE from yesterday.
hit refresh knowing that being on my home machine last night would have invalidated this login. nope. still logged in, at least it looked like it, even after refresh.
so i logged off using the "Sign Out" link at hte top of the page.
that worked and i hit login (the one that appears where my avatar and "welcome, dave milbut" appares in the shot above).
logged in with my normal login and password. refreshed page back to start of 2 forums in seperate tabs (ps lounge and this forum).
i went to click on a topic in the lounge about buying a new monitor ("Ezio Monitors") and got the 404. i refreshed and the switched tabs to this forum. refreshed and went to page 2 to find the 404 thread.
posted there that the 404 issue was still happening and that's when i noticed the issue.

What the heck happened to my MacBook Pro? Virus?

Before I explain, My Macbook Pro has go a lot more slower & experienced more freezing. Basically what happened was I was normally surfing the web & I was opening up an app. Then all of a sudden everything disappears. My dock, the toolbar, webpage. Then I end up at my desktop. Everything on my desktop is gone to. I thought it was going to shut off but it didn't. The only thing that was showing up was my desktop picture. The screen didnt turn black or anything. My cursor was moving though. Can anyone tell me what happened? I downloaded Sophos Free Anti for Mac just in case. If anyone has a better anitivirus software, please tell me. I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.8

Highly doubt it was a virus.
But for peace of mind, use ClamX AV to scan.
Could be a corrupted hard drive.
Do a PRAM/SMC reset.
Verify your drive and verify your drive's permissions.
Repair your permissions if necessary.
Also check what loading on login items when you first power up your MB.

I had, until today, quite a lot of tabs open in firefox. Now I have none. What the hell happened? How do I get them back? History wont help because some have been open a for some time.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and all open tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

What the **** is happening to Apple Support?

I'm trying to find answers to problems since Yosemite (and upgrade) has been installed. Does anyone know the best way to deal with Apple Support in the UK? I can't get to see someone in store until next Monday 24th and have been cut-off (network disconnect - not my end) via live chat.
Yosemite is proving to be a really painful experience .
If anyone has any success and advice in contacting Apple support in the UK, I'd be delighted to hear how to do it.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

My assumptions:
String literal is treated like a primintive.
so when u say "String" , is it not added to the String pool.
but when u say "String".toString() , is not a String object implicitly
being created , So the reference has changed .
I assume that toString() method is returning the 'string value' ,
which will now point to the "String" literal in the pool.
so the answer "Equal" is correct.
