What the...? ITunes has "Stopped Responding"

I recently updated my OS software and now suddenly Itunes has decided to stop working. I have tried rebooting a few times, but still nothing.
When I restarted, I clicked on the Itunes icon, it bounced a few times in the dock and then stopped but the app screen and GUI never came up. When I mouse over it and hold down the mouse button, besides the normal "Remove from dock/Show in finder" etc. in the menu, it also says, "Application Not Responding" but it is greyed out.
I had read on the Apple forum to nuke an Itunes .plist file, so I did and rebooted. After nuking the file, it was more of the same, but this time, the license agreement comes up. I click agree and the menu bar appears, but still no app screen or GUI.
Arrrgggh. What is going on and how do I fix this?

Re-installed 10.4.7 combo updates. Seems to work for now.

My itunes has stopped responding how can I get it working again?

I have a related issue (I think, hard to know for sure from the short frustrated post above).
Since the last update of iTunes (11.0.5), it kind of freezes while checking for and downloading new podcasts. Processor load goes to 100% (sometimes above! figure from Swedish OSX "Aktivitetskontroll" which I can imagine is something like "Activity Control" or "Activity Manager" in English OSX) and stays there for a few minutes, 3-5 minutes is common. During that time the mouse pointer turns into a spinning ball when moved above iTunes. Other apps work ok meanwhile. (Four processors)
Have a fixed connection to the internet, which I have tested while iTunes is frozen. We acheive above 100 Mbit/s downstream, 20 Mbit/s upstream, so the connection shouldn't be the problem.
Any ideas on what to do?

  • Itunes has stopped responding

I have tried every thing suggested i this forum about fixing this. The message I get is that iTunes has stopped responding, Windows is looking for a solution to the problem. Then it wants to close iTunes. This only happens when i try to access the store. My music and podcasts and everything else works fine. Just can't go to the store. Just downloaded the lates and greates version of iTunes. Below is the error i get in the event viewer and of course windows Tech support is no help. Never ever had an error in the event viewer had a solution to a problem of any kind.

See the following post for how to resolve.  The fix involves copying a file from one directory to another.  Very easy.

  • Why am i getting the itunes has stopped working message on my windos 7 laptop?

I just installed the latest itunes version on my new laptop running windows 7 professional.  The installation goes fine.  I can open itunes and even log into my account, but as soon as I click on the itunes store button, it looks like it's loading on the progress bar and gets almost to the end every time but then I get this message "itunes has stopped working".  It then shuts down itunes because windows can't find a solution for the problem.
    Please help!!
    Thank you.

Sign Out of your Account... Close all Open Apps... Perform a Reset...
You will not lose any Data or Settings...
    Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    Now try iTunes again...

  • ITunes has stopped responding ..  CD Import.  ITunes 9

    itunes has stopped working.
Every time i place a music cd in the dvd rom and it starts to load
    itunes stops working.
i remove the cd and launch itunes again and it works fine
as soon as i insert a cd it stops again, and its any cd
this has only happened since itunes 9
anyone eles having the same problem

Same problem. itunes will open fine, and library will show. However, as soon as I insert a CD to transfer to itunes, I also get "itunes has stopped working" and it shuts down. I restored to a date previous to 9 download. itunes would not work--something about quicktime. So I installed the version 8.2 for vista, however, then it would not recognize the library since it was now in a later version. So I downloaded 9, and, of course, it's back to the orginal problem. Afraid to even try syncing my ipod. I previously had opened another user account on the same pc. I installed itunes on it, and everything works fine other than the fact my library is on the other user account. Any thoughts??

  • Had to uninstall mobile device helper because a window kept coming up every 45 sec. saying it had stopped working. It wouldn't stop and online support said uninstall it.Well I did,now if I want to access iTunes store it pops up the iTunes has stop working

Was advised to uninstall mobile device helper because a window kept popping up about every 45 seconds saying it had stopped working.Uninstalled it that took care of that problem, but now I have a new one.I can't access the iTunes store.Every time I click the store icon a window pops up saying iTunes has stopped working.Any suggestions anyone.

    anyone?
*i've managed to download quicktime, but am still unable to download itunes. after reaching a certain point in downloading itunes, (about 1/3 of the way?) it stops at "copying files", and my computer freezes and i have to hold the power button in order to shut it off and do anything, or i get a popup asking me if i want to change something so itunes can finish downloading. i click "yes", but then the download stops completely and i get a message saying "itunes has finished downloading, but with errors" and it tells me to download it again.
a popup from MobileServiceDevice keeps appearing as well, but it won't go away. the details are:
    Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH

but the fault module name changes on me. sometimes it's kernel32.dll, and sometimes it's something else, and i've already tried using task manager /find str but it doesn't help.

When you get to the license recovery kit, type sudo, leave a space and drag LicenseRecover.py into

Enter your password, but remember the cursor will not move. Just hit enter and let the script run.

  • I continually receive the "iTunes has stopped working" notification and won't allow me to log on.  Why is that?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes repeatedly to no avail.

Why do I continually get the "iTunes is not working properly" notice???  I cannot get to the iTunes store.  I am using Windows 8 and have tried downloading it and redownloading it numerous times..

Yeah... that's how it works.  Signing into iTunes does not magically make a library appear.
If you have an iTunes library (media purchased from iTunes) then YOU need to put it on the computer.
Also, since the computer is no longer authorized for his account, any media associated with his account will not be playable.

  • Despite having full connection to wi-fi, no matter what internet browsing app i get on it will never connect. Every website says the same thing "Safari could not connect to the webpage because the server has stopped responding."

    Basically what it says above.

  • Windows Vista "The Program has Stopped responding"

Hello, I've attempting to help a friend repair his iTunes after a recent update corrupted it.
After a few re-installs, updates, edits...we've found out that some how the apple store is crashing iTunes, I say this because when the PC (windows vista) is disconnected from the network iTunes loads perfectly fine. When the unit is connected to the network, iTunes locks up while loading the store.
Any Idea on why the recent release would have broken iTunes?

What version of Apple Application Support does he currently have on the PC, Andy? To check, launch iTunes (when not connected to the internet). Go "Help > Run diagnostics". Uncheck every box. Click next. Does he have an Apple Application Support version 1.0.1 or a version 1.1.0?
What OS does he have? (XP, Vista or 7?) Is it a 32-bit or 64-bit version?

  • Message "itunes has stopped working". Itunes opens and can read an audio cd but as soon as the "get information" option is selected the message "itunes has stopped working" and the computer freezes or at least slows to a snail's pace.

    Hi,
I have a PC running Windows 7 - 64bit OS. I have had iTunes installed since the beginning of the year on this computer and have not had any trouble with it except actually using iTunes but that is a different issue. The other day I inadvertently downloaded "Tuneup" which I don't want or need. I firstly want to say I have no concrete evidence that Tuneup has led to my problems. It may be coincidental that Tuneup and my problems appeared together.
Tonight when I started iTunes, Tuneup took over a quarter of the screen on the right side. I closed this program. When the list of tracks was ready to be loaded from the CD and I went to" file" - "get info" option the message "iTunes has stopped working" would appear. Closing this message resulted in iTunes shutting down. I should say that before I closed the message the computer had essentially ground to a halt. The other curious thing was the behavour of the mouse pointer on the screen - the only place where it was visible was in the "iTunes has stopped working" box. Moving it out of the message box resulted in it disappearing. It would reappear if it were caused to wander into the message box.
I subsequently removed Tuneup (control panel, programs and features, etc...) iTunes had not improved. I then deleted iTunes, firstly saving the library to a file on the desktop. Then I did a fresh(?) install of ITunes but there seems to be no change. A curious thing was even though I had deleted iTunes through the control panel the library was still there as if I had done nothing. The whole thing is a complete mystery and extremely galling.
If someone has had a similar problem I would really like to know what the fixes were.
    Thanks for "listening".
    Cheers,
    Grant Andrews.

I had a similar problem. I'm using 64bit Windows7. The following solution worked for me:
    COPY    QTMovieWin.dll
    FROM    c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support\
    INTO     c:\program files (x86)/iTunes
Also, reinstalling Quicktime has worked for others having this same issue.

  • I have tried to transfer files from my windows media player to my ipod but it saysthe device has stopped responding or stopped working.this is the first time ive connected nmy ipod to my new pc.any ideas?

I have tried to transfer music from my windows 7 media player to my ipod. This is the first time i have tried to use my ipod on my new computer .In the media player it doesnt give me the option to add to itunes library it just give me the option to send to my ipod and when i do this it says that the device has stopped responding or isnt working.Any ideas? coz i aint got the foggiest where i am going wrong. My ipod keeps telling me to update the software, but then will i lose the music thats already on my ipod?

You should import the music (that is listed in Windows Media Player) into your iTunes Library - on your computer - to add it to your existing iTunes Library. I take it you have moved (or copied) your music from the old computer to the new computer, haven't you?
Then Sync your iPod to that Library.
iPods will not respond to Windows Media Player, they're designed to connect to iTunes.

  • HT6001 "ITunes has stopped working"  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I have run the "fix", I have removed and reinstalled, but my iTunes just stops about 1-2 minutes in and the "ITunes has stopped working" window appears. Any help as to a fix? Are there any other music programs out there that will burn discs if I can't fix this? Thanks....
